Created by Bill Dubuque ("The Accountant," "The Judge"), this drama series stars Jason Bateman as Marty Byrde, a financial planner who relocates his family from Chicago to a summer resort community in the Ozarks. Laura’s characters’ evolution from the first season to the final one was something else. I started out loving her and by the end completely loathed her lol. That’s the hallmark of a great actor.
Beautiful writing wasn’t it? And what a brilliant portrayal of her descent into madness almost! I will miss this series so much!!

The cast were phenomenal and somewhat appealing, even though, each one was flawed in characters. But, every level was excruciating intense and had me in needles. Great show!
Love how Julia comes like a model & other 3 comfy at-home looks! She's so classy & MUST win Emmy, she WAS the season, everything she did was justified, a true hero😢

Ending very disappointing. No way would Ruth step out the car without a gun or a plan! She just gave it up. Not like Ruth at all - she planned a future life already.
I agree she had to have known that was a cartel car.

I'm with you all the way, I was fully expecting Ruth to die and I accepted that it was going to happen but it was so poorly done with her going up to a car late at night without a gun. I thought the finale was pretty good overall but a few things didn't work for me.
Felt like the writers ran out of ideas or they wanted to get this show over with quickly lol.
The final season was rough on many story lines. Still, Ozark was a great show, but not nearly as good as Breaking Bad.
Why wouldn't she she wasn't scared and knew death was coming and accepted it. She wanted to be with her family again

I tune in late to Ozark, didn't know that it came out in 2017. I got a notification on Netflix about 2 weeks ago. I just finish seeing the final season episodes. And what I could definitely say is Jason Bateman has shown so much endurance and true performance and his acting and directing the Ozark. The whole team is phenomenal all the actors including the writers of the show. Thur, May 5, 2022
I was expecting a great build up to the end of the show and I was really let down with it. It felt more like an end of an episode or season finale. Sucks it’s over.
I'm on Ep.12 and can see this is building up to a bit let down.
It was a season finale. and technically it is just another episode. Yes it does suck its over. But you can't expect the writers to blend all 4 seasons into one final episode. They have to stay in the "now" and fix the situations on the table. Didn't like the way Ruth got it in the end, but that was the Langmore fate, I suppose. But she knew her fate was hanging on the balance.
I think if they had actually shown Jonah shooting Mel, then it would have been different. But we are not sure if he actually killed him or just shot it around him.

@@adh0522 If the producers get enough fan mail and Netflix and the actors are willing, they might bring it back in a few years. But it seems like the right time, because like the video says, they are in a cycle now with the cartel leaders changing, and the Byrdes still trying to get out and FBI lurking. Also they ran out of button men, lol.

Incredible and unforgettable performances! I am envisioning a feature-length film that takes place 10 years following the conclusion of season four. We just have to wait for Skylar and Sofia to get a little older. Jonah gets in over his head and Marty/Wendy have to come out of retirement to his rescue. Hit me up Chris, I’m working on the screenplay.
I feel like it ended on a cliffhanger. I feel like we need to know if they got out of the cartel or if it's become a family business now and they are in it for life.
I’ve never seen such a good show end so badly in the last 15 minutes. This was lazy writing frankly. All of the surprises are contingent on every main character acting decidedly out of character which is nothing more than a cheap trick.
The only character this worked for was Wendy. In spite of being a morally defunct narcissistic sociopath, it showed slightly that she had empathy still.
Marty was always the moral compass but is totally corrupted at the end.
Ruth was heroic & making plans to live in spite of being deeply flawed. I don’t mind her dying, in fact that would have been poetic, but the way it happens is stupid. She would have never gotten out of the car w/o a plan and she would have went out guns blazing.
After everything w/ Jonah, he acted the most out of character & would not have done what he did w/o more explanation, especially because he loved Ben so much & had just reconciled w/ his parents barely.
Camila was a cardboard villain comparatively to have such a heavy hand over the ending.
Also, why Mel had no backup from Mya or the FBI or anyone really made no sense.
There is a meta message that made sense that could have came through
w/o the lazy writing of the series finale. I get the point. The “elites” & the drug cartels always win, hence what Wendy says to Mel, “Since when?”. But the execution sucked totally & completely. They fucked the show’s legacy & it has 0 rewatchability now because of it. I can’t waste another second on a show when the writers didn’t even care enough about it to articulately execute the ending to correspond w/ what they wanted to convey.

An all time favourite series right here, Ozark is a masterpiece! Last episode make of what you will. I think it's impossible to make a perfect ending, or at least very very hard. Can't knock the series because I wasn't as hit by the last episode as I was by say the s03 finale. It's the journey that counts and what a journey it was. I've decided to imagine an ending as opposed to going with ep 14. Camila felt like a cardboard cutout, too late on to introduce a new character I guess as lacking in substance is never something a character in Ozark has suffered. And Mel, didn't dig that at all. Doesn't feel like something Jonah would do, esspecially with how he felt about Ben. That didn't tally up. Also Mel didn't seem that stupid, and if that was his decision then wouldn't the FBI agent be right there too? Doesn't add up. Ruth's death unnecessary, someone from the Ozarks should of taken their land back. All that rectified would of been better in my mind. Didn't mind the crash, that came together rather well I thought. Second half of season 4 wasn't as good as the 1st half, but it still was very good. 9.9/10 for Ozark!
See my comment, I agree w/ you on a lot. While it was one of the best shows I ever watched most of the way through, I feel alternatively that the ending kind of ruins it. Not that it isn’t still great, but it has zero rewatchability now. And I feel that since the writers didn’t care about the ending, why should I care about the show at all at this point?
@@tlagano82 I understand. I've only felt that way about certain serieses, and on occasion found it to be short-lived feeling. It's more prevalent I feel when an entire series sucks. Mr Robot is a good example for me, 2, 3 and 4 were so dissatisfying that I just can't watch it again, still. Ozark however, it was only 1 episode that didn't satisfy things for me. I find with a show like Ozark with such engaging characters, an intelligent script and story and just something really powerful... Well I find there's always something new to take away from it. So I love introducing to different people and watching multiple times. Some serieses are very plot driven and on the surface say, only merit 1 viewing and there's nothing more to take away from it a second time. This there's lots of subtleties and different interpretations, things I miss the 1st time.
1 other critical point is Ben, that new scene showing Bens actual death. It felt like a waste. At 1st was really digging it thinking maybe he was taken prisoner to use as a bargaining chip, as we never saw him actually die in S03. So yeah the whole showing his death felt like a waste of valuable time. Didn't take anything new away from that scene and it being left to the imagination was more powerful in S03.
Anyway hope you can recover and get more viewings!! Definitely don't feel as betrayed as others. For me the cast, writers and directors gave us a hell of a lot! I don't know how it works but I'd guess everyone wants to contribute something of theirs and this can lead to multiple incomplete endings as opposed to 1 final and beautiful wrap. But it was 1 episode, with the second half of S04 not as good as the rest. They still gave so much greatness. Also it sounds like they would of done more seasons so Netflix is to blame, despite Batemens respect for the conversation they had or whatever. Still sounds like ultimately they would of done more of netflix didn't axe everything good to make 1 or 2 seasons of s***.
I never did like the introduction of that random demoted cop looking for something… as soon as he spotted the host cookie jar I knew there would be foreshadowing.. but why did thug leave it in the motel ?

I love this show much but 5 times nooo )) same with YOU seasons? first 3 binged till 5 am but 3 season after Covid stopped on second episode> its lost it for me ))) Ozark didn't loose but watch it again, i will probably be skiping to favorite bits )))

I hated the ending
Ending was good for what the story was meant to be. People who are close to the Byrdes dont get a happy ending. It’s the whole point of the Byrdes’ arc, everything they touch they poison.

"Money is a measure of ones choices". You don't shut your mouth and take the cash - boom. You are so hell bent on your getting revenge for your cousin instead and you totally let your guard down - boom. You let your morals eat away at you instead of taking that final bribe to walk away - boom. Great show, spot on ending.
I'm so disappointed they killed Julia-----ruined the whole show for me.
killed off the wrong people
She was already dead in many ways, she lost everyone she knew and more importantly Wyatt the one she consulted in the most. I think Ruth got what SHE wanted.

It was in the last minute of the entire series - how did that ruin the "whole" show? She wanted to be with Wyatt.
I mean she killed a cartel head, a cartel assassin, and took over a huge money laundering business for the cartel. She did all of this knowing as well as anyone that they wouldn’t hesitate to kill her. She was either an idiot, or wanted to die.
I love Laura’s character, she’s such a bad bitch.

Wendy Byrde is the most manipulative character on television. Period. if you have another one I will wait.

The end was inevitable since we thought the Byrdes would get away with it …but I’m happy for Ruth standing in to threaten the father ( Wendy’s Dad)
I did like that they had having terrible fathers in common and Ruth did what she did.

Only two other shows I’ve watched multiple times. (Breaking Bad & House of Cards). I’m on my second time now with Ozark. But there will be more.
I didn't watch more than 4 episodes several years ago BECAUSE I HATED being manipulated by the BLUE filter look. Who's idea was that?? It sucked and just got soooo tedious

Thank you for this amazing show. I didn't know about it until 2020, so it definitely helped me get through the pandemic. Loved the ending and great to see the Byrde family stick together with Jonah stepping up to defend the family.
Laura Linney’s acting is superb. Her character had such a transformation. I am so sad it’s over!
Make a sequel for Camilla Elizandro leading the cartel. Or one where Ruth didn't die and has to navigate survival and leadership. Or a sequel for the Byrd kids especially Jonah.
Ending wasn’t satisfying at all. Ruth should’ve lived and had her red neck empire with Three and Rachel. Wendy should’ve died for sure, maybe the whole Byrde fam, but at least her. They also should’ve called the hit man Navarro gave them so that his sister gets killed too so that the cartel would turn to chaos. Season 1&2 were phenomenal though. Season 3 had moments, and the Ben character was well done. Season 4 was way too rushed and I wish they’d done a 5th season instead, to end things.
Our world reality sucks right now: pandemic, verge of war, high prices for everything, mass shootings who wants more reality. A little happiness for Ruth (the underdog amount the rich and powerful) would have been a nice light in a dark show.

The acting This top notch not since the Sopranos have I love abshow this much. And the characters is definitely the best part from Ruth Wendy Martty the kids the psychiatrist the gangstas Jacob snail Darlene buddy it’s just so good. My favorite characters are Ruth Buddy and the psychiatrist.
Julia Garner will always be Ruth Langmore. After 23 years, I wonder if Jennifer Lawrence could pull off a Ree Dolly in her thirties.
You know the cast did a phenomenal job when I CANNOT distinguish these folks from there characters.
I thought my Jason Bateman phase was officially over until I watched this interview and I can only imagine him as a smokin college professor now... help
This show grew beyond the writer/director. In reviewing the reactions across sites and demographics It might be said that a larger percentage of the viewers were decidedly disappointed by the ending. I wonder if there was a sole decision maker (Mundy?) and he did a Nielsen style survey going into season 4. Or if Ruth’s fate was based on a personal belief about what she represents.
I don't think Marty or Wendy ever slept! I got exhausted just watching them.
Unpopular opinion maybe but I loved Wendy's character and the last episodes really shined a light on why she is the way she is ...(horrible treatment from her birth family)

One of the best series having the strongest characters (most of them to be hated:) that knows how not to overstay its welcome. The best way for a series to finish is to let you want more (not in the way of Lost tho), instead of saying "at last" (ahem... walking dead).
Bateman: "Find a way to root and empathize with murderers or criminals"? "Heroic"? The fascination with the monster or "mob effect" we witness.
I feel like Ruth’s southern accent subtly sneaks into Julia’s pronunciation at times.
