    Pretty soon smart middle class white guys getting themselves in over their head in the criminal world by overestimating their intelligence will become a genre. For the Jason Bateman led ensemble crime drama on Netflix, the smartness comes in the form of a seemingly mild mannered financial accounting wizard who assumed that he could take his big city ways to a podunk part of the Ozarks and launder money with no one being the wiser. What Bateman’s character Marty Byrde didn’t take into account was that there would already be a fully realized and functioning underworld of crime already in place that neither wanted nor appreciated the level of financial criminality that Marty brought to the table. The perfect recipe for a clever person to overestimate their own intelligence and dig themselves in deeper and deeper as they run around putting out fires set by the people around him who don’t have his temperament. For four seasons the Byrde family has been jumping from frying pan to fire to bigger fire to just a big ol’ cauldron of lava. Over the course of the series we’ve seen the effectiveness of Marty talking his way out of things and right into even bigger problems as he is surrounded by chaos agents. With the series finally at its close we’ll look at the detail of the second part of the fourth season and how we got here. What’s your favorite detail from the show? Made a definite ending. Finale was trash. It was left open, not really a cliffhanger. Like they're thinking "maybe we can wait a year or two, & do an Ozark movie to end it all"

    Something I noticed and thought was funny involved Frank Cosgrove Jr.. The next time we see him after his "accident" with Darlene Snell, he has installed a top/roof to his sports car...since he didn't have one when he lost "something" previously. It's a very subtle thing but made me genuinely laugh when I noticed it.

    Ruth would have turned tail and run upon seeing a cartel suv in her driveway!! She basically committed suicide. Also, Ruth blowing off Marty’s urgent warnings about using the casino to launder money makes no sense either. She murdered her cousin’s cartel murderer. She knows they are merciless. Ruth’s final storyline made no sense.

    • @reallyrandomrides1296
      @reallyrandomrides1296 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I think they intended it to look like Ruth got in over her head and knew her time was coming, and when it did, she would take it without any hesitation. Otherwise she could have taken off when she saw the cartel's SUV in her driveway, or Javi's sister pointing a gun at her, and took way too long to shoot her. Ruth was almost getting impatient and wanted to get shot and get it over and done with.

    • @romeosmith4102
      @romeosmith4102 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I disagree. She flipped off Nelson in the suv, she didn't go to the police station to avoid Nelson she went to clear an innocent person. She had a strong connection to Wyatt. Them leaving Ozark together became her everything after losing Ben. Just consider how many family members she put in the ground, how many did she genuinely care about.
      She was ready to "go", the pool was for Wyatt.

    I absolutely ADORE the character of Ruth. Having grown up in a white trash family myself, you really do spend your adult life running from who you grew up as, and even with education, friends, moving the the burbs, the house and all that BS let one woman start smack....and you realize, you are still that girl from that trailer park. Me, when I was younger I tried to get away from who I was. Now I embrace the toughness, the hardness growing up poor, growing up on AFDC paying with monopoly money and having ppl look at us, make comments and treat us like garbage, you have no option but to be rough. But as you get older you embrace that person.

      @@MerthanE There can be a spin-off for Three.
      Spin-off series are usually meant for minor characters in order to broaden the universe the original series was set in. If they did a spin-off for Ruth, it'll feel more like a 5th season. She's way too critical to the main story. Since the Byrde family are supposedly free from the cartel, Camilla can be the villain of the spin-off. It'll be nice seeing Three develop into a calm and more calculative badass instead of his impulsive and loud cousin.

    I like how the ending leaves room for imagination of where things will go from there. I like how it leaves you not sure of how you feel with many conflicting emotions. I personally am not a fan of when shows end with everything tied up in a perfect bow and have all the characters you’re rooting for ride off into the sunset and the ones you hate pay the price. I like that it is a depressing ending in many ways. Hopeless but also relieving and satisfying just the same.

    I see lots of people being disappointed at the ending. But i think the ending was perfect. It doesn't felt like left unfinished because not everything has to be spoonfed. The Byrdes git what they want, they finally got away with it free. And while it seems "better" (and more clichéd) that they get what's coming to them, like being killed or punished, the ending they went with made more sense for the show's theme. The Byrdes are the immigratory birds that are invasive species (hint: their surname and Jonah talking about it in S1). They came and destroyed everything and everyone AROUND them.

    • @maggyfrog
      @maggyfrog ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i think the byrdes are still going to get what's coming for them, but just not at that point. camila will eventually realize that marty protected ruth from her, and wendy will eventually fail to outmaneouvre her because camila isn't as weak as she appears. the fbi is just using the byrdes, and maya can still figure out that mel was killed by the byrdes.

Where Wendy is actually located. On top of that Jonah didn't look so relieved when Wendy regained consciousness after the car crash. Even prior to that crash he look concerned. I think that the Private investigator speech revitalised and confirmed his positions about Wendy and he made a choice.

    • @mrwassef
      @mrwassef 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      She’s too powerful, calculated, and cunning. She’s also another word that starts with c u n. I hate Wendy, but she was the ultimate puppet master. She was the one who controlled everything, from the Navarros, to the FBI, to the government politics, big pharama...everyone was a pawn in her game for power, hell she even had her own brother killed cause he was messing up her plans. She was too ruthless (pun intended) to get caught or killed. She made herself too important to others for them to kill her.

    I thought so much blood shed was going to go down sadly the Byrdes get off Scott free and Ruth is killed it’s sad I thought the finale was going to be insane

    I don't think enough people were killed. There should have been a few more shootings. Just kidding. But, if they ever do continue the series, I think the very last scene with Jonah shooting the private investigator could foreshadow Jonah as the next Marty Byrde, taking over for his father. In the Ozarks.

      The creators of the show confirmed it was not meant to be a question of who pulled the trigger. Or who Jonah shot. Jonah killed Mel. Sorry if this upsets you. I somewhat agree, it was hard to root for the family and would’ve been nice to see them turned in
