She is so good in her “Ozark” role that I kept having to remind myself that she wasn’t scheming or being entirely fake in this interview, as Wendy would have been.
I'm up to S04E10 and at least once an episode I say out loud: "Laura Linney is a BEAST!!!". Like her performance in that scene when the priest visits. Oooof!
I was thinking same thing. She's so complex and it was often hard for me to read when she was and wasn't being authentic, that it took me 3 seasons to even fully understand she was not a good person, no matter her circumstances. The way the writers fleshed her out slowly and with just enough contradiction made her feel like a real-life malignant narcissist or sociopath, who hides their motives so well that it has you questioning yourself. Because of how insidious it was, I feel gas-lit by her character. Lol.
Agreed; her performance S 4 is yet another expansion of the character -- albeit into darker woods with far darker revelations about Wendy's moral compass -- and should make this her year. What people forget: she imbues this woman with a recognizable humanity; even her justifications for the direst doings can remind us of the ways we adjust our own standards to fit circumstances. Wendy is grounded and all too knowable -- in many ways, one of us -- and that's entirely attributable to Linney.
2019 I get why she didn't win. She was amazing but Jodie Comer was sensational in early Killing Eve playing Villanelle and the multiple characters that Villanelle pretended to be, multiple accents and all. It was deserved for Jodie to win that year. 2020 I don't get, Zendaya was good but Laura was better and Laura should have won the Emmy. Hope third time lucky this year for Laura! She deserves it, I think she was better in season 4 than all the other nominees were in their shows this past year.
When an actor can make you hate their character the way I hated hers it's a sign of how great an actor she is. And she also Directed some episodes of the show and she did a great job of that too. Oh and I loved the way it ended. They finally ended a show I like with an awesome finale.

Laura Linney was my main reason to get into Ozark in 2017. The only Netflix drama I cared about at that time was House of Cards. I knew if Netflix could produce another character sort of like Claire Underwood, I’d be into it. I guess people hated “Wendy Byrd” or whatever, but Ozark would not be nearly as interesting without her. She’s a joy to watch.
God, isn't she just a beautiful human being? and an amazing actress too. Well-acclaimed in both movies and TV. I particularly love her voice and how well-spoken she is. She needs to do voice for animation or voice-over for documentaries.

Yes. She truly made you loathe her, especially with what she did to her brother (I know it was either him or their whole family but man!) but she truly enjoyed being pretty ruthless at times. It's so amazing how they wrote that character and how she played her. You can't stand her and how she treated Marty and her kids, but yet you don't want anything to happen to her. You want to see what's next with her. She and Julia Garner were just perfection.

Her performance in 'You Can Count on Me' was nominated for a best actress academy award in 2000. I've long been a major fan. That’s why it was so pleasantly shocking to me that Anna Gunn (Skylar in Breaking Bad) won twice. Sarah Snook (Shiv in Succession) also won but only on her third nomination. Both playing characters who elicited significant vitriol from their viewers. Also Zendaya is mega-famous, and I’m guessing they want younger viewers to be invested in the Emmys so sometimes they pick young winners.

The fact that Wendy Byrde survived and I’m still trying to get over it is a testament to her portrayal of the character. Laura is a wonderful actor.
