Just wanted to say Thank you. Ever since the episode aired I’ve been waiting for a TH-camr to upload an extremely detailed and explanation on why Shane shooting otis was the right call to save Carl !!
The screaming taking the walkers attention, the time they spend eating him alive + overall eating Otis, the extra adrenaline rush in Shane after the scuffle taking the stuff off Otis with the motivation to get out of their to save carl was definitely the only chance
There's a cut scene where Shane is running away from a crowd of walkers, even in good physical shape, he barely managed to escape And in this situation, he limps, and carries a heavy bag and a shotgun. If they had kept this scene on the show, the audience would have known that Shane had already experienced in such a situation, and they would have understood that both of them would not be able to choose alive.

Bro the comment above me is so stupid. The show made more money than they ever deserved to make and they still cut the budget. The zombies didn't get budget cut they cut one of the best writers and directors in the game and that's why the show quality went downhill with gimple
The big mistake was both of them going into the trailer. Otis should have gone in while Shane used the truck's horn and lights to lead them away. Otis knew the stuff and he could carry it all himself. Then go around and pick Otis up. Neither of them were all that bright. Neither of them deserved to survive. And neither did.
A serious miscalculation. They probably thought going in on foot would be faster than slowly kiting the dead away. That time crunch really caused some lapses in logic.
@rolandomanrriquez108 dying takes infinite time. Both going in was a super unnecessary risk. Even one at a time, if the first guy dies, the second knows when he goes in that it is not safe.
forgive me if I misremember the scene, its been a long time since I saw it. If I remember right they used a flare to lure the zombies away from the building with the medical supplies so they could go in safely. I feel like the dumb mistake was just barging out the door when they had everything and announcing their presence to the zombies. Let's just say that for what ever hypothetical reason both of them did have to go in. Once they had gathered everything, if they had just cracked the door open a bit and seen all the zombies had returned, they could have taken a minute to formulate a plan to distract them so they could get away safely.
I always felt that Otis should of let Shane do Shane's super hero manhood moment. Otis is a hunter so dragging the huge heavy load wouldn't be much of a problem for him and keep in mind he was the one putting walkers in the barn. I say Shane would of found other ways to survive or at least get the zombie heat off him when "the big super hero sacrifice" scene came. Lol.
They could have escaped if they planned this whole raid better. The situation they put themselves in was messed up from the beginning. Going with just 2 guys also was a stupid risk for such a big raid.
They were in a rush though. Carl was losing blood and Hershel needed to perform the surgery as soon as he could to save him. They were under the clock so they probably werent thinking under the stress
Even if it wasn't the right call for Shane, consider that it took this guy like 2 hours of research to come to an objective conclusion. Shane had a few seconds to make his choice! It's not like he was sitting quietly in a safe room with maps and rulers to make accurate calculations. He simply made a gut decision and went for the scenario that promised the highest probability for Carl's survival.
Shane was made for this world, as Dale said. Adrenaline is a helluva drug. He definitely could've drug the weight in a fight or flight scenario and I maintain that Shane was one of the realest characters in this series.
If project zomboid taught me anything about zombies it's that the only time you have to leave someone behind is if you didn't prepare or plan properly. With two of them they could have had one guy draw the horde and lose them in the woods while the other guy looted and met back up at a different location. No excuse to get surrounded with 2 people
That I think was what killed Otis, he was just a big guy not in condition. I have had serious ankle injury, I was a track runner and my ankle was severely twisted I could barely move it. But because I was in shape and in condition I could still move pretty fast on it when I needed too. I can only imagine a person of Otis size would have been completely helpless after about 50ft walking on my ankle. But I did feel for him and he only wanted to redeem himself and do the right thing. RIP Otis you were a real one.
I wish Otis lived but I think there wasn’t much time for it to happen. If Otis lived they’d find out Sophia was a Walker in the barn much sooner. Also Otis would be an interesting character but idk I think it was destiny for him to die at that point.
This situation is extremely tricky and it cannot be talked about without looking at Shane's character.. Sure, you could argue that they both could have made it out alive. However, Shane had a better chance at surviving if he used Otis as bait for the walkers so he could escape.. That's really the only reason why he killed Ottis.
If it were me i wouldve simply summoned my inner warrior and fought off all the zombies and throw the bag of medical supplies all the way to the truck and grab Otis with one arm and wall run over the horde and back to the truck.
Also the packs probably felt heavier than they were too. In the military they show you how to properly pack so that the weight feels less heavy and no way they packed in an ideal way at all given the situation
Should have just taken both bags from Otis first to try to allow Otis to maybe get ahead or reach the car first, that only being his reasoning of course then he would kneecap him lol. I feel bad for Otis but it was either both them and Carl die, or one of them + Carl live. I mean Shane even told Otis to leave him it is not like it was his first thought, it literally came from there being no other choice for survival. Hey maybe just maybe (doubt) Otis could reach the car and Shane could barely keep out of reach of the horde with two bags (with his busted ankles he wouldn't lol), then Otis could either lead some of the Horde away or start the car early then pick up Shane.
The sad reality is that Fat people don't survive in any apocalypse period. By all means Shane did the right thing. The only thing I can think of is maybe a 3rd person went strictly to drive. I'd imagine that was the High School Maggie went to so she would know the area well and could lead the herd away. Maybe circle a block and pick them up.
I think they needed more than 2 people but it does show that the actors and directors really thought about the logistics of this incident. I think Rick should've followed cus then they could've had a fighter to delay walkers. I say that cus no run lacks a fighter after this shot.
This vid needs to blow up for those still sticking with the "They could of ran away in time." argument. Also I love to imagine if a fat guy was in an apocalypse and survived overtime he would get fit and strong lol.
Story wise it works really well but it sure does seem like they could have escaped the walkers together on foot. But when you think about it Otis may have been slowing Shane down a lot which how fast he could walk etc.
Literally all they had to do was drop the bags, get to the truck, drive the truck back onto the spot they dropped the bags, slow as to not run over the walkers, open the door and pick up the bags before peeling off.
I feel this is too risky, what could happen is that there are now too many walkers to go through when coming back, the whole reason they are running from the hoard is to not get trapped in it. Leaving the bags would mostly definetly be an interesting yet risky move, ill give u that much.
Those people who think they easily could've gotten away forget that the walkers were a lot faster at times in the first 2 seasons than the rest of the show.
So what you mean to tell me, is that Shane carried 100 pounds for like 800 feet, on hurt ankles🤨 and made it back in time to save Carl 🤨 I mean be realistic neither of them should of survived 😂
Maybe he got an adrenaline rush after the scuffle and killing Otis, so he couldn't feel the ankle pain as much and was actually able to run? Just a theory though
Have you ever hurt yourself in an adrenaline filled situation? You often can ignore most of the pain but will definitely feel it and then some when the adrenaline wears off.
I'm glad u made this video I was just trying to point out last week to someone that they both weren't getting out alive and Shane wasn't wrong for doing what he did, but I don't support it
I wonder if it wouldn't have been a bad idea to drop the gear outside get to the truck and speed past the walkers to get the gear back? Not saying it would be the first thing on my mind
I think when they changed director a lot of things did not make sense...the zombies were fastee thats why Rick had to leave the little girl behin but it makes no sense now cause the zombies are so slow..same thing with Shane and Otis they could have escaped easily witht the slow walkers
There's no reason they wouldnt have parked as close as possible that was safe. They knew they were going to be exiting with a ton of weight and wouldnt want to walk far.
people saying they could have escaped because the zombies were far away do not understand cinema at all... i admit, the zombies could have been a little closer to be more believable but people, really?? you think they would both be in that state of panic if there was a chance to escape? the producers failed to show us that they would not make it, but you have to imagine/think that they were pretty close BECAUSE IN REALITY THEY WERE (even though it didnt seem like it). dont focus if they were close enough or not, just believe that they were not gonna make it.
the only way they couldve possibly made it out with the plan they used would be not bust out the fucking trailer door. it ticks me off every time i see it. if they opened it slowly like any intelligent person would do, they would MAYBE have a couple extra seconds to at least get down the stairs with a headstart to the truck. no fatigue, no ankle injury, full ammo, and all items gathered. but of course thats best case. the walkers were already not distracted by the flares so its not guaranteed it would be any different
Ankle injuries suck. I twisted my ankle in the summer of 2019, and it still bothers me to this day. On a bad day I can barely walk on it. So I can imagine how difficult it would be to try and haul 50-60 pounds on my back whilst trying to evade the walkers. I know that I personally wouldn't have made it and would have taken a bullet to the brain so the other person had a better chance of making it out alive.
I tried to think of a situation where both would get out but this was an impossible situation, limited ammo and fairly limited experience with walkers to begin with. If glenn was there they would have a better chance but he wasn't so it was fubar all around
Dealing with crap on my back while dragging a rollaway luggage bag in a crazy ass airport where Im dodging people trying to make my way to TSA , is a similar feel for me running away from slimmey ,smelly dead walking flesh. Dang...Not sure about y'all but I would have gone during the day. My eye sight sucks at night,so I would have been worthless dead meat for Shane.
They definitely could have survived because they used like 10 flares in the beginning of the episode.if they kept some of them they definitely could have made it out
People really don't understand context very well, do they. Their WHOLE conversations in those scenes revolved around how 1 or BOTH of them were not gonna make it. They knew that BOTH of them were done for if something wasn't done. Shane offered for him to be the one that stayed behind to allow Otis enough time to escape. Otis wouldn't have it and was dead set on both of them going down. So Shane took matters into his own hands.
According to ChatGPT, it is strongly advised not to walk long distances with a sprained ankle - while carrying like 50lbs. The AI says it would likely cause further injury. So yeah, Skynet agrees with you here lol you’re seriously one of the best content creators for the Walking Dead. Keep it up!
I feel like if they planned it properly like people say then both of them would survive. But in the situation I don't blame Shane for his action because I would do the same.
I bet Odis would've died anyway since he would've been slower than shane and gotten slower and slower and died the same painful death this what if reminds me of a telltale games decision
Im not an athlete and anytime ive had ankle injuries you feel like walking even a few feet is a nightmare. No way id make it carrying all that weight too LOL.
nah they didnt have a chance to make out both alive, truly , the odds were too small, they both were tired and coudnt even run properly, also they did have bags full of heavy stuff
Dude no there was not a sacrifice needed. It was Ricks fault that He DID NOT teach the group the walker guts technique, or let Shane know about it, it was a one time fling and not done again, wt the world? WOAH! If they did the walker technique, Shane instead of killing Otis and Carl by taking him by force and “morality” This is where morality and tacticality merge. In order to get to Carl In Time he CANNOT take Otis with him in the car or by walking realistically, it is not possible without sacrificing Carl without time equivalent speed with Carls injury. He needs to leave him behind, IN ORDER for both to live and Carls life. Knowing Otis need to say he was willing to get left behind as well as Shane they would have agreed that this was the best scenario this would mean that Shane would have higher chance to live as he would get to the farm in the universe time and save Carl. ITS WHAT OTIS WOULD HAVE WANTED. ⭐️In this Universe Shane knows about the guts technique and puts all over him and Otis. Like RICK TAUGHT GLENN. So they make a plan that Shane has a better chance to make it to the car even with his injury. As Otis is not physically fit, Otis agrees and wants the best chance for the boy Carl to get his meds even if it means Otis is at a disadvantage for the night. As the night dawns Carl will slowly recover as Otis slowly enters into hell and chaos as he knows haw will be stuck with walkers for a very long time at least the night (10-13 hrs) before the group goes to rescue him. Shane promises to Otis that he will tell the group that he will come back for him in the morning when everyone is rested and ready to rescue him not Rick as he is tending Carl. Or if it’s really Nightmare mode and Otis knows it’s going to get bad real quick, everyone except the grimes family and dale go to get Otis and Glenn doing a diversion at midnight. Shane decided a quiet spot for Otis to hide in with his guts disguise, and to stay there for the night until they come. THIS IS THE LOST ENDING I WANT PEOPLE TO SEE. Shane’s good motive lead to wrong execution.
It’s not entirely Rick’s fault, Glenn, Andrea, T-Dog, Jacqui & Morales could have told the group when they got back from Atlanta but I agree 100% Otis could have survived if someone from the Atlanta group just told everyone what Rick & Glenn did.
I’m sorry but idk what pills make you suddenly heal your ankle, and pain killers take about 5-10 minutes or more to act, which wouldn’t help their situation
@@ilikewater1575I’m fairly sure they’re likely referencing the game, “Left 4 Dead” where you can take pain pills to buffer your health, and adrenaline shots in Left 4 Dead 2 to speed yourself up :P
They both couldn't make it bc the plot demanded it. Just like the plot demanded stumbling and bumbling zombies to have coherent footing and not trip over each other and debris strewn across the parking lot. Let's not even assume they would trip and fall down the very hills and inclines mentioned. Somehow, they can even walk up stairs just fine without falling. Who could've guessed? 👀 Good research tho.
make a video on what u think would have happen if shane didnt go nuts with all the lori stuff, or something related, like how things would have turned out, since he was the first one to adapt to this world .
He woulda killed gov at the meeting, they would stay at the prison and because shane would kill the prisioners the horde wouldnt get alarmed, happy ending, theres a reason they killed shane, and when rick became shane with the beard, the writers always made side characters convince him a softer decision, for example ricks plan was to silently raid the hospital, but tyresse the crybaby suggested a hostage trade no violence, rick said no, but daryl said rick lets do it, so rick listened, shane wouldnt, beth ended up dying because they wouldnt leave without noah
If i recall correctly, there was a few moments where they just stood around letting the walkers catch up. for example: right before Shane shot Otis, they stood there and talked for a few seconds as the walkers gained on them. I think the main thing that killed Otis was hesitation and poor planning, like @FDR_progressive_liberal said in their comment: they should've had one of them in the truck as a distraction. It kind of feels odd to me that neither of them did something like that, considering Shane had the forethought to use flares to distract the walkers on their way in, not to mention that Otis was the one putting walkers in Hershel's barn and would obviously have experience around them, it just feels like they got dumber the longer they were at the high school.
Otis could’ve dropped some layers. Both of them could. They could’ve use the bleachers to do that. But maybe I’m tripping. It’s been a long long time since I’ve watched that episode. But the way I see it Shane didn’t have to kill him 1. Drop some layers. The bleachers should give you time. 2. It’s Shane’s fault anyway. For not making sure. All the walkers were clear of the window. Why did Otis. Deserve to die for his mistake.3. Why not give both bags to Otis. After he dropped layers. 4. Even better. Give both bags to Otis. And distract some of the herd away from him. He’s the able-bodied person, right. Maybe the walkers. Will leave him alone completely. If you draw enough attention. 6:23 fat can be athletic to. Going to have to disagree with you there
I dont know if Otis could have survived, but Shane didn't need to shoot him and actively aim to kill him. He could have just left Otis behind. Man was struggling to catch up anyway, what help does shooting a loud ass gun make? Not to mention actively being Otis' murderer (something Shane couldnt live with in the end) - he didnt need to blow out the dude's kneecap and have him die in a horrible manner like that. Shane could have just outran him, that way he wouldn't truly be to blame for the death and likely wouldn't have spiralled as badly as he did. And if he needed to die, why not headshot him to make it quicker? Zombies would have still ate him and the shot would have still drawn the walkers in, there was no need to have him die screaming like he did. Just my opinion.
when Shane and Otis have their scuffle, Shane takes Otis' gun with him back to the farm. so if Shane left Otis behind, Otis would still have his gun and he may have taken matters into his own hands if Shane tried to leave him behind. Shane would've probably had to fight with Otis anyway to take his gun, either to ensure Otis doesn't shoot him, to take his gun and bring it back just so the group has more guns, or both. one thing I do give you credit for though is that if Shane did leave Otis behind while Otis still had his gun, the group may have never genuinely figured out what happened with Shane that night.
@Helvigster Thanks for mentioning the scuffle actually, that was always something that irked me. Shane and Otis were supposed strapped for time and that's why Otis supposedly needed to die but their scuffle lasted for at least 30 seconds (I counted it, yeah) personally I think that's enough time to come up with a better plan, like covering themselves in zombie blood (I can't remember if they already knew about that trick by then or not) but yeah, if he needed to die then Shane could have definitely made it quicker I will stick by that since the guy was a cop and should have done plenty of target practice during his training as a deputy. 💀
@@SleepyKwee yeah I agree with you when it comes to the amount of time they wasted on that scuffle, although I think at that point Shane was done and he had it in his mind of what he had to do. I've always felt like there was a little part of Shane that wanted to kill Otis even though Carl getting shot indeed was an accident. there's a scene in "18 Miles Out" I think where Rick and Shane are talking about what happened that night and Shane honestly explains what happened, and then wrapped it up with something around the lines of "He had no business being there". I don't think Shane knew about the guts trick at that point because he was at the camp already when Rick finds Glenn and all the others in the second episode, so he didn't know what was going on in the city. but I agree, Shane should've tried to take out Otis in a more "hasty" way I guess is the right way to describe it? and you make a good point about him being a sheriff's deputy, Shane should know where all the major arteries are in the human body for situations exactly like this.
Couldn't Otis just lead the zombies away from Shane while Shane managed to get to the truck and go back to the farm. Otis could manage to survive the night until they come and pick him up the next day, there were a lot of options of how to handle this more properly through the whole episode that could have ended in better results.(not considering human error factors and personalities)
I know I’m a bit late to this, but I can kinda understand Shane’s reasoning here, even if it was morally fucked up. He genuinely loved Carl and viewed him as his own son, and I think almost any father woulda done anything to save their child in that situation. Now it’s not IMPOSSIBLE that they coulda made it, but it’s really not something they should be counting on, considering both were injured at the time. In Shane’s eyes, he gave Otis a chance to live and he unfortunately didn’t take it. Now that doesn’t make what Shane did right on a moral standpoint. I think he shoulda just shot him in the head so Otis wouldn’t have to suffer, but it was a spur of the moment decision. Otis didn’t deserve that death though. This is why I love Shane. At the beginning, he was good person and didn’t do anything wrong, but his downfall is just sad to watch.
Shane could have been more merciful and shot Otis in the head. He would have been fresh enough to eat and not have been eaten while still alive because Shane kneecapped him.
@@blackrose8418 I mean, two men carrying two 50+ pound bags or Shaun whos 3 times smaller than Otis carrying them alone with a fucked Ankle😅 Not only to mention that they had to fight 34 seconds for the bags as Shane was killing him. I just doubt Otis death saved more than 20 seconds, walkers rip you apart very quick.
It seems like the scene is divisive in part because it breaks immersion or otherwise makes it difficult to engage with given the general millieu of zombie lore, making the job of discussing it entirely from a Watsonian perspective and engaging with it seriously just that much more difficult or just unpalatable to many.
You make good points, but underestimate survival abilities and overestimate time needed. I’d say you made a strong case for Shane giving himself the best, even far more likely decision……though I’d have to ask “why would most of the zombies stop to feast?” Seems like he’d likely only bought himself 5-10 more seconds.
You comment on how they are carrying about 60lbs on them but then skip over that a now injured Shane would have to carry 100-120 lbs on him with a injured ankle?
@@chippdbanjo no its not, they had more shotguns and higher capacity pistols on the farm if Otis left his bolt action rifle at the farm and took a shotgun and he borrowed another pistol from someone else they would of been better off
If I remember correctly, the group didn’t arrive at the farm before Otis and Shane left. The group had all the guns. And they weren’t gonna wait for them to get to the farm, because time was on short supply. Only reason Lori made it to the farm was because Maggie grabbed her on horseback. Regardless. The video is about the specific moment Shane decided to shoot Otis. Not the entire raid itself.
@@TheRealCaptainGold Glen and T dog were already there and they both had better guns and if they had those guns on the most important mission there would of been no need to sacrifice anyone and it doesn't take that long to do
i will say the only thing i might have to disagree with is 56 lbs is a light pack for a marine they are wearing body army, combat helmet, your rifle is 12-16 lbs by itself, and Shane was a state trooper in good condition, he is use to being pushed physically and has been trained for working on low to no sleep. as for otis -_- LOL
I feel like you gave me amunition to just destroy your argument. So youre telling me that not only did the two men lose 34 seconds in a fight because of the gun shot(making Shane even more exhausted than he already was) you are also telling me that its insanely hard to carry a 50 or so pound bag with an injured ankle. Now comes the fun part, youre telling me its better for Shane to carry 100 pounds worth of equipment alone instead because Otis dying buys him time?Wouldnt them sharing the equipment load buy them time and save energy of carrying such heavy weight? Not having a fight saves time? Having four hands to kill any walkers who come across them instead of just two hands. Not to mention that the 100 + pounds would increase the load on Shane who was already barely limping, it would be next to impossible for a human to carry 100+ pounds very far, let alone with a freaking injured ankle. This scene does not make any sense whatsoever but you making this video just makes it even more clear that shooting Otis was just about the stupidiest thing to do. You sir, need to keep buying condoms because we dont need more people like you who might shoot people because youre bad at math. (I am of course joking about the last comment. This was a great video and cool but very flawed perspective)
Adrenaline will make alot of impossible things possible. We had one guy in afghanistan with us that got injured in an ambush and still managed to run half a mile with a hole in his calf. But to be fair that dude was in damn good shape, as soon as the adrenaline wore off he hit the ground screaming
All they needed to do is have Otis hide behind those cars and have Shane use the car horn to lead the Walkers a street or 2 away that one dude in the comments u showed was right the whole scenario itself was written so dumb to begin with but no wonder at that point Frank Darabont was fired so they got Scott Gimple to write it the dude that made majority of the dumbest decisions in writing and eventually destroyed the show.
You hark on about how heavy the weight of one of those bags is and how it weighs them down so much, then disregard how quickly Shane hobbles off with double that. What? I ain't even sayin both would have made it. That hundred foot or so gap between them and the walkers doesn't really give much leeway time for getting in a vehicle and going ... though I am a pretty fat guy and I think I could get into a truck and start it in under 40s seconds. I ain't sayin they would have made it, but they definitely had a better chance of it than you are saying.
They should’ve let carl die. In real life they would’ve let carl die. Children aren’t made for a zombie world. Chances are they’ll let the children die off. Cause adults are more important
Okay you should have said they should have had one get the stuff and the and the other one should have kept walking and distracting the zombiesand then running
I Will always call BS on them not being able to make it as they spend way too much time wrestling on the ground and The walkers didn’t catch up to them until like a few seconds after Shane left Otis they could’ve easily made it The walkers were slow
No otis was too fat and heavy and slow he had to go lol shane shooting him was the best thing he could. he did everything right except his obsession with Lori he had no chance with her him being Rick's number 2 and overseer was his position and he wouldn't take it and that's why he died in my book
He wasn't innocent he was a liability and a danger to the group. Sure he could have joined them but what if he didn't? That was only a big moment because Rick realized Carl had already stopped being a kid then and what the new world had made of him made him upset
The second time when the Governor raided the prison? That one kid in the raid that Carl, Hershel and Beth ran into? Hershel: Drop it son.(Pointing gun at the kid). Kid: Yeah. Sure. Take it. (Instead of dropping the shotgun he kept the muzzle pointed at Carl). So instead of dropping the gun he kept his gun pointed at them, ask them to come and take it. Lol
@@TheRealCaptainGoldIf you been around guns it only take one swipe and that thing can go off. If he dropped the gun and kept his hands up but Carl shot him after. Carl might be in the wrong. In this case he kept holding the gun, ask them to come and take it while slowly moving forward and slowly muzzle sweeping towards them.
@@SCH292his hand was on the barrel, no where near the trigger, the gun itself was pointing away from Carl, with an old man and child pointing a gun at him. For him to shoot Carl would’ve taken far more time than it would’ve taken for Carl or Hershel to merely squeeze a trigger. Carl was wrong af there. Being around guns doesn’t mean anything. Plenty of folks spend 1000s of hours out on a range, mastering the art of shooting a stagnant target. Basically a skill that won’t ever save your life in a situation like this (or any combat situation lol).
PSA: To be clear, for some who may not have gotten it, this video is focusing on the point where Shane shoots Otis. It’s not about how poorly the rest of their raid to the school went. It’s a follow up to another video I made.
Yes. The entire loot-run was poorly handled. Yes, they could’ve survived if they approached the operation differently. That’s not the point here.

Wouldn't that take a lot of time todo
Coral needed meds and was running out of time
@rolandomanrriquez108 dying takes infinite time.
😂😂😂 it just took the whole season to kill Shane
I always felt that Otis should of let Shane do Shane's super hero manhood moment. Otis is a hunter so dragging the huge heavy load wouldn't be much of a problem for him and keep in mind he was the one putting walkers in the barn. I say Shane would of found other ways to survive or at least get the zombie heat off him when "the big super hero sacrifice" scene came. Lol.
It's always nice to see the maps of the events, the path they take and the irl location
frrrrr
They could have escaped if they planned this whole raid better. The situation they put themselves in was messed up from the beginning. Going with just 2 guys also was a stupid risk for such a big raid.
They were in a rush though. Carl was losing blood and Hershel needed to perform the surgery as soon as he could to save him. They were under the clock so they probably werent thinking under the stress
Definitely could have escaped
Even if it wasn't the right call for Shane, consider that it took this guy like 2 hours of research to come to an objective conclusion.
Shane had a few seconds to make his choice!
It's not like he was sitting quietly in a safe room with maps and rulers to make accurate calculations. He simply made a gut decision and went for the scenario that promised the highest probability for Carl's survival.
Lmao
Shane was made for this world, as Dale said. Adrenaline is a helluva drug. He definitely could've drug the weight in a fight or flight scenario and I maintain that Shane was one of the realest characters in this series.
Shane and otis should have thrown a monkey or 2 then they would have had plenty of time from the distraction and explosions .
But they need to hit the mystery box which takes extreme luck
I always did wonder if Shane HAD to kill Otis. It always seemed like it was a toss up but this definitely shows it had to be done.
If project zomboid taught me anything about zombies it's that the only time you have to leave someone behind is if you didn't prepare or plan properly. With two of them they could have had one guy draw the horde and lose them in the woods while the other guy looted and met back up at a different location. No excuse to get surrounded with 2 people
mans pulled up google earth for this
That I think was what killed Otis, he was just a big guy not in condition.

I love how fucking blunt you are, subscribed. 🤣
This is freaking so cool. I always thought more than the average viewer about Shane and this incident with Otis … so this is right down my alley.
The only way they both would of survive, would be if they went in differently.
Without the injury to Shane's leg there was a much better chance. After that, a sacrifice had to be made.
Otis also hurt his leg in the gymnasium. Although not as badly as Shane's injury.
The right thing? No, the smart thing? Yes
I think they just didn’t film it good enough to convince most people.
Definitely
Yes
Yeah true
Story wise it works really well but it sure does seem like they could have escaped the walkers together on foot. But when you think about it Otis may have been slowing Shane down a lot which how fast he could walk etc.
Literally all they had to do was drop the bags, get to the truck, drive the truck back onto the spot they dropped the bags, slow as to not run over the walkers, open the door and pick up the bags before peeling off.
U say this i hindsight
Right that has got to be B.S!! He should’ve been falling multiple times
Have you ever hurt yourself in an adrenaline filled situation? You often can ignore most of the pain but will definitely feel it and then some when the adrenaline wears off.
Otis became a decoy with his screams and being a meal. Aka BAIT
I'm glad u made this video I was just trying to point out last week to someone that they both weren't getting out alive and Shane wasn't wrong for doing what he did, but I don't support it
Overall - I agree, but comments are good for the almighty algorithm and damn your voice sounded smooth. Great video.
I wonder if it wouldn't have been a bad idea to drop the gear outside get to the truck and speed past the walkers to get the gear back? Not saying it would be the first thing on my mind
The gunshots and scuffle made it worse, Good content though.
I think when they changed director a lot of things did not make sense...the zombies were fastee thats why Rick had to leave the little girl behin but it makes no sense now cause the zombies are so slow..same thing with Shane and Otis they could have escaped easily witht the slow walkers
Short answer: Yes
Nah
They could have done the whole zombie guts trick.
Exactly
Impossible walkers on season 2 are really fast, that was a sad but necessary sacrifice.
bro swears like a middle schooler that just learned the f word
Ya know what from now on I won’t argue with this guy
They should’ve use the car horn to lure them away then come back when the place is less crowded.
Yea they should have sent more than 2 ppl in general. 1 or 2 to draw them away and 2 to grab the stuff
But what if you fart
When I go to the store for a soda I put all my leg weights in my back pack which is about 90 lbs just so if this super rare situation happens
Incase you get a part on a TV show?
Can you make a video on why the Saviors wouldve succeeded under Simons leadership? Im willing to collab.
I will say this the writers could make it any way their imaginations would conceive.
I bet Odis would've died anyway since he would've been slower than shane and gotten slower and slower and died the same painful death this what if reminds me of a telltale games decision
The Phoenix Wright theme tripped me out because i watch umvc3 videos alot. Thought i left one open lmao
Im not an athlete and anytime ive had ankle injuries you feel like walking even a few feet is a nightmare. No way id make it carrying all that weight too LOL.
from playing state of decay for 9 hours, i can confirm they would not both be able to make it out alive.
case closed
nah they didnt have a chance to make out both alive, truly , the odds were too small, they both were tired and coudnt even run properly, also they did have bags full of heavy stuff
Dude no there was not a sacrifice needed.
It was Ricks fault that He DID NOT teach the group the walker guts technique, or let Shane know about it, it was a one time fling and not done again, wt the world?
WOAH!
If they did the walker technique, Shane instead of killing Otis and Carl by taking him by force and “morality”
This is where morality and tacticality merge.
Great video!!!
The should have taken some pills to get a rush of some shit and run faster.

@@getmoneygamer9540 yeah buddy thinks this is State of Decay or something lmao
They both couldn't make it bc the plot demanded it. Just like the plot demanded stumbling and bumbling zombies to have coherent footing and not trip over each other and debris strewn across the parking lot. Let's not even assume they would trip and fall down the very hills and inclines mentioned. Somehow, they can even walk up stairs just fine without falling. Who could've guessed? 👀 Good research tho.
make a video on what u think would have happen if shane didnt go nuts with all the lori stuff, or something related, like how things would have turned out, since he was the first one to adapt to this world .
He woulda killed gov at the meeting, they would stay at the prison and because shane would kill the prisioners the horde wouldnt get alarmed, happy ending, theres a reason they killed shane, and when rick became shane with the beard, the writers always made side characters convince him a softer decision, for example ricks plan was to silently raid the hospital, but tyresse the crybaby suggested a hostage trade no violence, rick said no, but daryl said rick lets do it, so rick listened, shane wouldnt, beth ended up dying because they wouldnt leave without noah

nice video! really good quality for the size of your yt channel.
Going to have to disagree with you there
They could have made it but the key factor was Shane’s injury if he didn’t get injured they would have survived if Shane could’ve stuck the landing 😂
Well yeah. Walkers are not that smart or fast they should had got to the car faster if Shane's overzealous ass didn't shot Otis
Please keep doing the walking dead content and please dive into the spin-offs and newer series
With how much time they were scrapping with each other after Shane first shot Otis then yeah I totally think they both could have made it
Could they have? Who knows how far the car was and they were slowing down while the walkers were catching up.
@@blackrose8418 I mean, two men carrying two 50+ pound bags or Shaun whos 3 times smaller than Otis carrying them alone with a fucked Ankle😅 Not only to mention that they had to fight 34 seconds for the bags as Shane was killing him. It seems like the scene is divisive in part because it breaks immersion or otherwise makes it difficult to engage with given the general millieu of zombie lore, making the job of discussing it entirely from a Watsonian perspective and engaging with it seriously just that much more difficult or just unpalatable to many.
5:54 "horde of zeds" Zeds? you play State of Decay?
You make good points, but underestimate survival abilities and overestimate time needed. I’d say you made a strong case for Shane giving himself the best, even far more likely decision……though I’d have to ask “why would most of the zombies stop to feast?” Seems like he’d likely only bought himself 5-10 more seconds.
You comment on how they are carrying about 60lbs on them but then skip over that a now injured Shane would have to carry 100-120 lbs on him with a injured ankle?
they needed better weapons and a better plan to get out of that, its that simple

i will say the only thing i might have to disagree with is 56 lbs is a light pack for a marine they are wearing body army, combat helmet, your rifle is 12-16 lbs by itself, and Shane was a state trooper in good condition, he is use to being pushed physically and has been trained for working on low to no sleep. as for otis -_- LOL
That blob served his purpose by being a distraction in form of giant delicious meal that dead can relish on. RIP Ottis

Carl was wrong af there. Being around guns doesn’t mean anything. Plenty of folks spend 1000s of hours out on a range, mastering the art of shooting a stagnant target. Basically a skill that won’t ever save your life in a situation like this (or any combat situation lol).
