I picked up my e-Niro just over three weeks ago - the best car I have ever owned and I love it. Range, instant torque when needed, comfort, interior space, greenness and above all economy. With the Octopus night tariff of just 5p/kWh and getting a return of around 5 miles/kWh means I can drive from the middle of Devon to London for just £2 - all without emitting an ounce of carbon dioxide or other noxious gases and particulates.

@@ram64man - it is in my area as well, but generally 4 hours is quite adequate to top back up to 80%+. If I need a serious top up for a long journey the following day, then I will visit my local Podpoint Rapid which is currently on free vend :-)

Great review. I think you hit the nail on the head when you said it was big enough to be a family car... if you have a family. My Kona is plenty big enough for me without a family. I much prefer the interior of the Kona also. But the great thing is that we now have a choice. thanks.

The REAL difference in interior seating space is almost nothing! Typical hair-splitting BS. If you can git in a Niro back seat you can fit in a Kona. Same for the front seat. The rear cargo space is like 6 cm longer on the Niro....that's less than 3 inches for people from the educated world.

    • @musicofnote1
      @musicofnote1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

The Kona electric was the car I wanted to like. I loved the look and feel, both inside and outside with on major exception. Front leg room on the E-Niro was head and shoulders (so to speak) over the Kona because of the massive middle console on the Kona - just got in the way of my right leg/knee. The front space of the E-Niro is massive. Also, with a rather large dog - Galgo Español - the E-Niro was way ahead with trunk (boot) space.
So, E-Niro it is and am super satisfied.

Thank you for your videos. With reference to the MG electric I have had an MG3 for 5 years with no problems.
My brother in law has had an MG6 for 4 years with one minor problem which was sorted under guarantee and we drove down to Spain and back it didn't miss a beat, and now they are giving a 7 year warranty and if the price is as competitive as I expect I think they are very worthy of a consideration. And yes the residual values will be a bit less but to get a vehicle with the same spec I would have to spend about £3,000 more which stays in my bank not devaluing so if you add that money on to the residual value it makes up for it. Looking forward to a test drive when available.

Evm your videos are going from strength to strength. I am in nearly the same boat as you money wise and e-niro is top of my list right now with Kona close second. I have to wait until 2021 at the earliest before jumping to full ev, so I can wait to see if model 3 becomes affordable or ID3, seat elborn are good etc. But even then they’ll have a hard time competing with a 2 year old one of these. Keep up the good work and more vids with your mate as well please.

I guess it's a GOOD THING to be watching video reviews comparing the Niro and Kona, because it means they've finally ARRIVED and what they have brought us are two VERY good cars! Demand here in California is equal to the sound you hear when someone is sucking the last of a milkshake through a straw! I keep checking various dealers and finding them in stock, then sold, and back in stock. I got my Kona back in March when they first hit the dealer in Fresno, CA. It's a FABULOUS car!

Collect my e-Niro three weeks ago, 2500miles on the clock now. I bought this to sit alongside a Niro PHEV which I also own and have found it to be excellent, I drive on varied roads including motorways and see well over 300 miles on a charge, no range concerns at all. It's a pleasure to drive, clearly more powerful than the PHEV, with no compromise in real day top day use. It's a shame Kia (and all manufactures) have failed to deliver enough to the market.

Had ours a few weeks. Around town seems to average out about 4.4 miles per kwh. Did a 330 mile round trip yesterday up to Sheffield and back. Virtually all on motorway. Cruise on at indicated 70. Few slower bits around Birmingham but just keeping with traffic. In ECO drive mode but lights on one way and climate on all the time. Ended up at just over 4 miles per kwh. No special efforts at economy driving. Very happy so far. Hope KIA can deliver some more. Seems odd to have spent some much effort on worldwide launch without the capacity to meet demand. Car is a good size and so far hasn't required us to make any changes in the way we use a car

I cancelled my e-Niro reservation after my dealer told me I was first in line (for 4 months!!) and then relegated me to second in line (meaning no car until Q3 2019) just days before the cars arrived. I wouldn't in principle give Kia my money after that experience. Pre- ordered the VW ID.3 which is claimed to have the interior space of a Passat. Our Kona arrives next month so we won't suffer waiting!

Thanks guys for another great review..one that I was interested to see as I am 5,000 km into e-Niro ownership here. Your comparisons with the Model 3 are interesting but why bother?.... Even if I could have afforded one and it was available a saloon car is no good to me. The Kia is a practical hatchback/estate/mini SUV whatever you care to call it..exactly what we need here in rural France..It just wouldn’t seem right take stuff to the tip and bringing back mulch for the garden in a model 3, far too posh!

Great review enjoyed the banter between you and your friend. I to agree with you’re thoughts on both the Kona and the Nissan. We looked at both. The Tesla as good as it is and it’s brilliant but the price By the time you have added a paint colour because who wants black. It would drive me mad and a set of alloy wheels your the wrong side of £40.000 after the government grant. To much for me so we came to the same conclusion as you and ordered the Kia e Niro and I can say having had a hybrid Niro for the last 2 years it’s been utterly reliable a really good car. I know looks are very subjective but we like it. Good show. Keep it up.

You didn't mention one of the most significant things about the e-Niro, namely that you can't get one! I placed an order three months ago and I guess I'm looking at mid-2020, by which time there'll probably be a new model with a different level of equipment and no doubt a very different price. On the other hand, I can probably have a Model 3 around July this year if I get on with it. Guess what's on my mind..... I've also put a reservation on the VW and I'm very much looking forward to getting some concrete information from the Frankfurt Show in September. I rather think I'll be asking for my deposit back though. Then of course there's there's the MG, which I think I have more faith in than you do, except for the poor range, and the expected upgrade to the Zoe. Confusing times.

I'm waiting for all these cars to come to Australia, but they should be coming sometime this year. The Kona is here, but seems to a bit over priced, and the cabin/boot space was the only real concern I had about that one. So the e-Niro looks like it could be great contender. It'll probably be a couple more years before I can afford one, so we'll have to wait and see what happens later on.

I bought a LEAF2 (40kw) as my first ever EV - really pleased, although at the dealers for things seven times in 18 months. Range was a bit of a restriction - cold weather motorways got under 100 miles. Went to look at LEAF+ and the dealer couldn't give a stuff about selling me one! Went to look at the I-Pace - too much and smaller than the LEAF. Had test driven the e-Niro when it first came out, but over a years wait. So when the local KIA dealership insist I come in as "They would be able to do me a deal" I did. Then they said - "all sold out - a years wait" I said they had wasted my and their time. Then he said "we have a 6 month old PX coming in, if I wanted to do the deal right there". After establishing why on earth someone would trade in an e-Niro at six months, I did the deal. So proud possessor of a 2000 mile 19 plate e-niro, and I am as happy as a pig in - well you know! Things I miss from the LEAF - e-pedal, the app (when it worked!) and pre-heat on battery. Absolutely everything else on the e-niro is better - and range!!!!! The LEAF for my regular winter commute would have been flat at around 100 ish miles - the e-niro does 110 miles on 50% battery. It's just superb - and with a bit of flappy paddle operation you can drive it one pedal. Although I agree about the "grill" - looks like a flattened golf ball!

It is a great car, I have driven it in January. Unfortunately it is not going to be available in Europe for the next 1+ year, because the number of cars arriving here are ridculously low. In one year however, there will be several similar options available. It might come (for the broader public) not very much earlier than the ID.3.

TbT - The place where I got a test drive. We’re sharing one vehicle among a dozen or more dealers, a couple of weeks at a time. The dealer told me they’d have one in sometime soon. But that was purely for showroom purposes and would absolutely not be for sale. On the plus side. He was enthusiastic about EVs and realistic about possible delivery times.

Hi EVM - thanks for all your video's and info - feel your pain regarding the Tesla, and enjoyed your review of the e-Niro. As a Yorkshireman always looking for a bargain, just have to say that your comments regarding the MG ZS are way off mark. Needing a new car at the beginning of this year we bought an MG ZS petrol SUV. If you stuck an MG badge and grille on the Niro it would look the same! - the new model MG's are well screwed together and drive well - If Harry doesn't think the build quality is up to much (looking at a picture?) then the invite is open to come and drive mine. If the price difference between the Kia/Hyundai petrol and EV cars is maintained then the MG should come in around the early 20k mark and its available in a couple of months time, not next year or the year after! All the best - Jeff

  • @ritz5606

The e-Niro has a great and spacious interior compared to other cars. No doubt about it. That said, the more space the more you stock up all your bits and bobs that you actually never need in the car. When complaining about the "cheap plastic" e.g. in the Leaf and Kona, that is actually recyclable plastic and is used there for a reason. Sometimes luxuriant materials are there for your eyes only. The Piano black, there I totally agree. Fingerprint magnets. Now, the EVs develop faster than we have ever seen and you will always find a car that offers something more than your last. My advice is, after driving different cars in 40 years +, is to look for cars that doesn't have all those children diseases waiting to appear. ID.3 is full of it and so will ID. 4 have. Boring isn't always so bad. You get something called reliability if you offer some coolness factor. I can't afford and I don't want to jump into the next cool car because it's new and has some new ideas tweaked into it. The e-Niro is a great car and used as taxi here in Norway. So is the Leaf and Model x. Remember that most people don't want to sit down in a car, they want to sit into it. Cheers

when i bought my Ford Fiesta, there was no compelling EV's i could buy. they where simply waaay to expensive (Tesla S) or simply not good enough (low range or dingy) as i have since become a family man, but still want an EV as my next car. the e-Niro seems like the right fit for me. it can do enough Kilometers, fit a family with a small child and the luggage that goes with that. and its expensive but in a range i could afford. so definitely a real contender...
but since the Fiesta still works just fine, i'm hesitant to pull the trigger on a purchase. especial since its in so limited stock.
i will however look very closely at Kia for my next possible car... maybe im lucky and they come out with a refreshed version when im ready to buy. one with 85KW battery :) a guy can dream

Something that friends of mine have mentioned is the need to tow a caravan. The e-Niro is a great car - I have test driven one. If the lead time were more realistic I would trade up from my i3.
However, if you are towing a caravan or trailer with an ICE, you can refuel at most petrol (yuk yuk yuk pah!) stations. It occurs to me that for every electric charge point I have encountered, it would be impossible to juice up without detaching and parking the trailer somewhere first.
I have seen one Tesla S with a towing hitch, so cars like the e-Niro become candidates for towing use.
Towing reduces range of course so these vehicles would need intermediate fast charge points.

Re the i3 ... I was looking for something with more range and pure EV after the i3 REX.
The e-Niro is the nearest fit for creature comforts and features, design aside ☹️
Re towing ... I know many people who set off from Easter onwards with their caravans - in Hampshire and Dorset we call these Saturdays the days of “the great shed race”.
For me the e-Niro 300 miles is great. I believe that there is or will be a demand (a requirement) for an EV that can tow a reasonable distance and that current charging infrastructure needs a rethink for a drive-through style rather than the single parking space arrangements that we have in the UK.
I have seen a couple of chargers that are drive-through style in the Netherlands - I think fully charged featured one or two on their Kona/iPace road trip.

@@tinaturner5186 payload range is main issue with BEVs and that's why Nicola is outselling Tesla for new HGVs in USA. Same with trains where there's no electricity. I have one since a couple of months and I really love it !!!
This drives so smooth and is so fast it makes me smille everytime I drive it.
When I now drive a petrol car, it feels like something of the past.
It looks like a simple familycar, as you don’t reconize it directly as an electric car.
Most fun is to drive up next to a sporty golf or bmw and then hit the “gas”pedal and just pull away like there standing still.
Also range is perfect, you can drive over 400km without any worries.
Last time I fully charged range said 470km, that’s more then the 455km that is given by Kia. Only problem I have now is what to choose next, because I never had such a perfect car 👍🏻

The Soul might be considered an underdog, but I think I prefer it to the other two.

What I don't like about that (and the Leaf, Zoe and Niro) is the charging port in the nose. It requires that you park nose in when you are charging in (often) congested car parks.
It may be that we end up with all EV's with front facing charge ports - but we have an option with VW's, Tesla, i3 and the Hyundai Ioniq who put the charge port at the rear, so you can park and leave spaces more safely.

Only available as a pre-order (at the full MSRP, with a free Bosch level 2 charger) with the fully equipped trim level. You get to choose from 6 colours... I was told Canada is getting 400 in total! We recently got a federal ev incentive of $5000. My province stopped giving a $14,000 incentive when the government changed. The cars are mostly going to British Columbia and Quebec where are provincial incentives. Kia Canada can't be bothered to update the website on the E-Niro other than giving the list price, battery size, motor and driving range information. Have had a trial in one and loved it but the Mrs calls it a big ‘gadget’. Hows that? But the range and quality of this car beats all the rest except Tesla and the cost of one of these is a non starter. Driving a Sportage at the mo and the 7 year warranty is the best. BTW we went down to Bristol last week for a break. Took the motorhome for a few days and then caught the bus to Cribbs Causeway (a big shopping mall) and inside there was a Tesla shop. I have a 2018 Nissan Leaf here in the USA. I get up to 165 miles to a charge sometimes, although it is rated at 150 miles to a charge. I guess this car is better than the 2018 Leaf, however the new 2019 Leaf gets 226 miles to a charge, so I think I would go with the new 2019 Leaf Plus over the Kia Niro. You need more electric car charging stations in the UK. I've read articles that say you only have 2 charging stalls in many locations. You need to greatly expand the amount of charging stalls per location.

I have a Model 3 which is of course amazing but I want to unload our Subaru for an EV like this. I just cant get away from the fact that without the Tesla supercharging network in the US road trips would be painful. I spent the most money I ever spent on a car to get my model 3 and to replace the Subaru I hope to spend less. I drove from NJ to Mont-Tremblant in Canada in the Model 3 and had a great road trip. Until I can afford a small SUV like car that can do the same I am stuck with the Subaru and gasoline.
