Better camera with Real Head Motion? Try it! | Tutorial / Guide | ACC

  • Always struggled a bit with the camera view from ACC because of the shaking. I never really was able to dial it out with the onboard filters. I think "Real Head Motion" does a great job to provide a better and smoother viewing experience - but check it out yourself, and see if you like it. This is a little tutorial/guide on how to install it and brief explanation of the settings.

      Hey, playing the dumb part here, but does this app do anything for ppl like me who prefer a fixed dash cam (to correspond with the real life fixed wheel) and let the ingame world do the movement? (in ACC this would be 100% Movement and 0% LtH). I tried a few things but it does not seem to be the case. Not quite sure tho.

    I tried this out, installed fine and when I checked the camera.json file it already had TrackIR=1 so all good.
    Changed the in-game settings then went with your parameters. For a few minutes it was fine but then suddenly the screen started glitching, large artefacts appearing whilst driving.
    Turned off DLSS and reduced some of the graphical settings (RTX4090 + 64GB RAM) but still the same. I'll try again tonight after work (and a reboot) but sadly so far not been a good experience.

    I could not drive in acc without rhm honestly, i use even stronger filter settings to really smooth it out with only slight movements. The standard acc camera movement really throws me off and it is harder for me to identify track markers etc. with rhm the view is stable and not annoyingly jittery, especially on some bouncy tracks. I'm using 89% pitch and 12% roll filter. Rhm also has look option where you can fine tune the left and right look with button presses, available under "look options" lower right hand corner.

    Funnily enough, I don't like the iRacing camera style because I feel disconnected from the car, whereas I don't have that feeling on ACC. So essentially this makes it more like iRacing doesn't it?

    Absolutely couldn't live without this on triples! I always use this in ACC. Strangely, it actually doesn't have that positive an effect to me in your video, perhaps because of the narrower view. I can't understand how people could drive in triples without this tho, I get a headache in minutes if I forget about it. Will definitely donate to the creator of this because I probably couldn't enjoy my favourite game without it :)

    Thanks Dan, a great video about a really usefull tool.
    I am using it for a few month now and cannot drive wthout anymore.
    Just one thing to mention, it only works in Dash Cam View. All other views are not affected.
    Here are my settings:
    Pitch Filter: 85%
    Rol Filter: 15%
    Steering Smotting: 100%
    G Accel Smothing: 100% (because I don't like the movement under breaking or exelleration)

    Still need to find nicer implementations that mimics rF2.
    I also like ACC and AMS2 as simulators, but the feeling like driving a real car, I only get that in rF2. There is something to synchronous head movement and FFB than gives me the most emmersive experience in rF2.
    We can see here in Dan's Imola example, the car doesn't care about curbs, as if they were not there. In rF2, there is a head smoothess until you hit a significant curb - then the car/head move in a realistically way. Doesn't seem to be there yet in ACC.
    All in all, better to have RHM to tweak than nothing.

  • @seandrage9229
    @seandrage9229 ปีที่แล้ว

    The reason you get shake issues is because of all the false claims and software about FOV!!!!!! If you go sit in your real car have a look at what you can see, learn what's in your eyeline, what's in your peripheral? Now set all your sims up accordingly. No need for FOV calculators. No need for add ons like this. Simples.
    Your brain will understand to ignore the bounces as they do in real life.

    Thank you Dan! I thought the "Lock to Horizon" in the View Settings is exactly that? If you keep the head movement to 0% while just playing with the "Lock to Horizon" the car will bump up and down while your view is fixed. It would have been interesting to see a comparison of the RHM and the ingame Horizon Lock - if and what the notable differences are :) Personally, I have not really noticed the shakiness or it did not really bother me so far... but it does now after your comparison shots ^-^ I have to check if I now notice it more while driving... to me, it is (or was) somehow part of the immersion in simracing as nothing is moving, the rig is fixed, I am not in a car... but if I would in one, I always imagine it to shake around because of vibrations and stuff so I see this as simulation of it... oh god, another thing to try and adapt, does this never end?? ^-^

    • @driflysh4597
      @driflysh4597 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Lock to horizon comes close to RHM when the track in general is very flat like Silverstone or Sebring. But when you have tracks where you drive up a hill, with lock to horizon you watch at your pedals. And you see the roof when driving down the hill. With RHM, you always look straight out of your car - as it should be. Try it at the steepest track you know. :)

    I have always disliked the amount of camera shake in ACC, AMS2, and RRRE. I remember seeing a video of Anthony Davidson (British racing driver) whose major complaint about sims for public consumption was the overuse of "camera shake" effect that is not realistic. Davidson is right on target since he is currently a simdriver for the Mercedes-AMG F1 team and a reallife driver who has raced F1 cars, GT3 cars, and currently races LMP2 cars.

    Based on the video, I'm having a difficult time seeing the difference bewtween RHM vs just adding a little Lock to Horizon. Can you explain the difference as if I am 4?

      @@DanSuzuki OK, it was super easy to setup. Sorry for doubting you. lol It seems really nice so far. Side note, I used 100% Dalking filter in Pcars 2. It took weeks to get used to it and it was absolutely not worth it. 😅 It was actually Look to Apex, so maybe a little different.

      Not really a „hack“ - just add like 30-40% deadzone on the top end to get it similar to iRacing (if you’re used to that) 😅

    Love RHM! Couple of things somewhat interesting:
    a) The ACC version of RHM also works with AC1
    b) The "Look Options" in RHM allows axis to be assigned to look left/right. This may be interesting for some wheel owners who have a mini-joystick on their wheel (IIRC ACC only allows buttons to be assigned to look left/right)
    c) the reason you needed to run RHM as admin was probably because you extracted it outside of your user directory -> running RHM inside your user directory (like Desktop/Documents/Downloads) should've worked as well

    why can't these gaming companies simply make games without requiring a hundred different settings; why can't their games simply work without inducing motion sickness? They should lean more toward the Apple model and less toward the MS-DOS model.

    Nice to know this exists. You may want to look into your monitors also. I recently switched to triple screens 2 months ago. Here is how I got there. I already had a BenQ EX3203R and I noticed a lot of bouncing before the Bridge on ACC @ Silverstone. Best way to describe it is like a car having extra travel without shocks. Bouncing like the rebound control broke. So I tried a 32" MSI MAG322CQR. Even worse and horrible fringing. I am using a RTX Asus Strix 3080 GPU btw. Ended up with three G-sync compatible ASUS 27" VG27AQL1A ( not the only 27" monitor I tested). Excessive bouncing was gone with super sharp picture on High setting. Then I saw your review on the 32" Gigabyte monitors so I thought I'd give it a try since I prefer the 32". The G-sync compatible Gigabyte had the same problem so it is not so G-sync compatible IMO so it was returned. Looks like the RHM coder is a great solution that will make some monitors be more friendly.

    Thank you so much. I hated ACC because the world would bounce and so hard to drive.

  • @AntikerTealc77

    You are correct, it was developed for Ac for Drifters. If you wanna tandem drift, it gives you the ability to "look out the sidewindow" to see your Friends your are drifting close by with.
    At first i always drove with static cockpits but as you said it one day i realized how shaky it actually is and i have had a little time with Iracing which i also begun with static cockpit. But then like said i noticed this problem so i tried shaky View. I kinda liked it so when i started Acc i activated the shaky effects there too (yes on 100%) It never looked comfortable to me but i still had the feeling that it helps, instead of static cockpit. Now that there is RHM for Acc which looks more iracing like i think im gonna try it atleast once.

    I guess some people think race cars drive like Lexus in real life, everything smooth and disconnected. If you’ve been in a race car, you know the cars vibrate like crazy, even at idle due to everything being stiff. The suspension reacts to even a little pebble on the road. Everything is stiff and abrupt. Therefore, the camera “shake” is really trying to convey the g forces. But somehow, people want to tune those out, so in essence making a sim into simcade. I would set the rhm to increase and not decrease these settings for immersion and simulation unless you have a motion rig.

    • @psirus89
      @psirus89 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      thats not the issue here.
      If you'd sit in the racecar your body would shake as well so you wouldnt run into motion sickness.
      Anybody ever said to you: "Don't read in the car, youll get sick" - Same thing.
