Not surprised by this at all, thermaltake has a history of mfg/parts swapping psus, especially in the cheaper smart series. This happens all the time with ssds as well.
Hello! Aris, I came here because of a recommendation from TecLab. I remember when you put a quote from Paulo Coelho in the video and I told Ronaldo about it.
Dark times, more and more, we see big companies ruining their name in search of profits. Pure dishonesty! A great example here, where I live, Sony and Acer, have become synonymous with electronic waste, low quality products and terrible support, but high prices.
they all did and when people say stuff became cheaper not for everything for example regular portable radios or alarm clocks, in 1990 you bought one it was heavy and still works today I bought one recently it's ultra light completely empty with speaker magnets the size of in ear earbuds and it's cheap ewaste..the price didn't change it's the same ! I'm pretty sure the alarm clock radio I bought has 2$ worth of components best case scenario
Thanks. I recently purchased two TT 1050 PSUs and both of them are made in Vietnam. So, I'm returning them. I've used TT PSUs for some time and they have always been great, but I don't appreciate the "downgrade" and wouldn't use these units. I guess I'm crossing TT off my list for now.
wow wish i had seen this video before buying a ThermalTake ToughPower GF A3 850w Power Supply. Now I am stuck with this POC cause it is past the return date for the store I brought it from!
Recently bought a smart bm3 750w from thermaltake and had issue with it crashing my pc with a power surge error while under any load (PC was well under watt usage psu is rated for) Replaced with a corsair PSU and have 0 issues now.
@@jerbjerbjerb5912 Perhaps. If they make such a video, my problem with it would be that it'll take a 20+ minutes to explain what Aris covered (after actually *doing* all the testing and the investigating) in *less than 12 minutes.* I'm just not into all the clowning around that makes up such a substantial portion of their videos these days. Aris doesn't showboat: He says what he intends to say and then it's 'goodbye' time. This leaves everyone (himself included) with more time to focus elsewhere, either doing other things, or watching more videos, etc. 👀 I can't speak for others, but I really do appreciate my time being respected like that. 🤔

sad to hear PSU are going the monitor way which downgrade panels to cheaper companies after most of the reviews are released (they have done this for decades nothing new) but I can testify you do not want to have a cheap PSU years ago with the athlon 64 I bought one it exploded as in boom with shrapnels coming out of the ventilation port burned my cpu and motherboard and cut power in the house since then I spend money on premium branded psus edit : just remembered it was a superflower
To be fair, I bought a crappy 600W Thermaltake PSU for $45 and it lasted almost 5 years before the fan gave out. It had two weeks of warranty left and they sent me a replacement in three days no questions asked. That replacement unit is 6 years old and still working and I am hard on parts, smoker, pets, low clean rates, I kick the crap out of PSUs. I am on my 11th year of PSU service for an original cost of $45. What can I say bad about that?
Remember the known saying about Thermaltake “Friends don’t let friends buy Thermaltake” all they do is copy other companies take their technology and sew them.
I have a 1050W unit I purchased in December 2023. It's the "snow" unit. The serial number ends in GU-N. I don't have the box anymore. How can I determine if this is the China made unit or a Vietnam made unit? You mention the position of the power switch and the screws on top, but it's unclear to me from the video how they are different in these regards.
At least half of the blame belongs to the government for their horseshit tarrifs, making things difficult for everybody, with manufacturers having to find ways to work around their policies to deliver products at a reasonable price.
Very disappointing TT. I've been using TT product for 20 years and I like the brand, was going to buy a few of the TT "smart" PSUs for cheap builds, I know it's not a great PSU but thought that for cheap builds it'll do but seeing this I'll pass on any TT PSU.

I was wary of thermaltake. Not buying anything from them now. Classic anti consumer behavior
I still like the tower 250

Just stick to FSP, Super Flower and Seasonic if it is about great and reliable PSUs.
Thanks for exposing yet another shady PSU manufacturer doing bait-and-switch.
☹I bought the white 850w version and it is made in Vietnam. Although it was on sale for 89$..well i may have to re sell it
UPDATE: i was going to sell the PSU but is dead now.. afther a normal Pc shutdown Avoid Thermaltake, is a garbage.

they have some good units, which I reviewed in the past. But unfortunately they are not consistent (as it seems) so in the end they cannot be trusted.
Luck on your side

Any review for the Toughpower GT 850w
If they send it I will review it, but they do not send much stuff lately.
what about Hydrangea Blue edition. is it the same as original atx 3.0 version.
Shame on ThermalTake. I never held this brand in high regard, but this crosses the line.
Is this the same with the sfx line of thermaltake??
