    Bought a RAV4 Hybrid in Blueprint 4 weeks ago...(wanted black but wait was long and lease ended on a 2017 Subaru Outback. The RAV4 feels more nimble than the Outback. Expensively priced but the resale value on this will be good. Great MPG. Good sound system and quiet interior (the 2019 Subaru interior is more quiet).

    Good honest review. I was able to pick up the same RAV4 Hybrid Limited in Blueprint color, just like yours. Gorgeous!! Handles great, too. Since it's a hybrid with no startup sound, Toyota had to add something to alert pedestrians when the car is backing up. To me it sounds like a choir of angels! AWESOME!!

    Getting over 43 mpg after some practice in my new RAV4 hybrid! Just wanted to share my experience. Initially, I was doing too much. I was trying to use the electric ability as much as possible. Watching the graphic engine power graphic...charging the battery/using the battery...trying to avoid the ICE. Shooting for the "Pulse and glide method." After about 2 weeks, I embraced some ideas that have earned 3mpg better. First, I learned that using the electric battery (process of charging the electric battery with the gas engine) is not without its own parasitic drain...and second, the ICE engine is very efficient in its own right. So, I started doing less jockeying of the vehicle to "stay in electric" and let it do it's own thing...It will do the work for you! It will choose the most efficient mode of operation. I do look ahead to anticipate stops and incorporate coasting time. I do speed up gradually. In forums and on youtube I've seen the proposal to: "get up to speed so you can coast and get off the ICE engine." This sounds well thought out...and I wasn't gunning it to get to speed either...just not delaying....anyway...it wasn't panning out. I just speed up gradually...slow down gradually and let the car do the rest. 43.6 mpg average now. It was enlightening to me to see the vehicle get its best numbers after taking a highway trip when it should be less efficient as hybrids go. But...the highway driving limited my ability to jockey the electric battery and I had to allow the vehicle to do its own thing. And surprise, surprise...the average mpg shot up. It's just that simple.

The RAV4 is already significantly more expensive than its competitors, such as the Ford Escape (especially now with their $5000 employee pricing discount) and Mazda, which is a few thousand cheaper similarly equipped (and offers low interest rates 1.49% Mazda 48 months vs 4.99% Toyota same period)

    All RAV4s are pricey. The cheapest model with alloy wheels at my local Toyota dealerships starts at $28k. That's crazy money for an entry level CUV. Toyota gouges the hell out of their customers on pricing and good luck getting a nice discount.

    • @AutoAcademics
      @AutoAcademics  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Unfortunately, padding vehicle prices with add-on features/options is a common practice at dealerships, making it difficult to find standard packages on the lot, palebeachbum. It's not too bad if they are features you want, but it can be a pain if they're features you don't. Sometimes you can negotiate some of that extra cost down, tho, getting "more for your money" than if you added the features yourself. We appreciate your comments and as always, thanks for watching!

    • @palebeachbum
      @palebeachbum 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@stephenpowstinger733 The $28k I mentioned is NOT with dealer add-ons. This is MSRP, before dealer add-ons. Just go to the Toyota website and build the cheapest RAV4 you can with alloy wheels (not the cheapo base model with wheel covers). The price hovers right around $28k, last time I checked. I think that's insane. You are correct though that many dealers - if not all - slap on usually at least $1,000 in add-ons. I've seen as much as $2,300 added on to entry level economy cars. Either dealers are desperate or they're simply getting greedy.

    I just bought a 2020 RAV4 Limited and I was surprised to find out that it doesn't have that 360 perimeter view. I thought all Limited has it. That's why I feel I have to make a comment to spare others a similar disappointment. I don't really need it (Sour grapes ?) LOL

      That's strange, Manuel Moraleda. Maybe only the Hybrid Limited comes with it then. We honestly don't know, but assumed it would be part of the trim level as opposed to the powertrain. Thank you for highlighting that and enjoy your car. It's still really good, even without the 360 camera. :)

    • @AutoAcademics
      @AutoAcademics  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just read your original comment again, Manuel Moraleda. The only thing new that Toyota highlights for 2020 is the TRD Off-Road model, as well as some "multimedia enhancements." We guess in their enhancement, they rearranged what was included in certain packages, now making the 360 camera an add-on. These are still just guesses so we can't say for sure. Sorry we couldn't help more.

    Do you feel the Highlander is a more sturdy, comfortable, robust feeling ride? I test drove a Rav4 back in 2009 and it felt a bit flimsy and chinsy to me, whereas the Highlander felt and feels so heavy and comfortable. I realize it's a bigger vehicle. But it's possible the Rav4 (hybrid) has come a long way to feeling about as secure and strong.

    • @AutoAcademics
      @AutoAcademics  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, YQ Quesada. Hybrid vehicles have both a gas engine and an electric motor that is powered by batteries, and can use both to power the car. Sometimes they work together and other times they work independently of each other. The gas engine automatically charges the batteries when needed, so no plugging in is necessary. There are plug-in hybrids, as well, but traditional hybrids, such as this RAV4, do not plug in. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!

      Oh yes the Rear View mirror does NOT have the guidelines that follow the movement of the steering wheel.
