An enjoyable pastiche of martial arts, romance, music, and video, THE LAST DRAGON presents a likable young hero, Leroy (Taimak), who aspires to become a kung fu master. Though black and living in Harlem with his family, Leroy lives like a Chinese. Trouble arises in the form of a huge black man who calls himself "Sho' Nuff, who is determined to prove himself the kung fu master of the neighborhood.
When he shouts “LEROY!!!” and that music hits, still feels the same today as when it did as a kid in the 80’s!

Bongggggg!
@@bruceleroy8063 I do that sound every time cuz I'm like it's the hardest seen he was laughed at I killed
Shonuff is HANDS DOWN the most underrated movie villain of All-Time!!!!
Ever seen that Busta rhymes video with him as shonuff? He definitely gives homage to him.
Bro that is literally Hercule or mr satan from dragonball z 😆
Who da baddest mofo no down around?
Shonuff

This last fight scene was what cemented this movie as a cult classic. It was on a budget with only a little Star power but it still manages to get me every time. The music, Sho-Nuff being a badass and chewing the scenery, Bruce Leroy managing to look outclassed at first and then serenely powerful . . . It’s one of the best of the 80s cult movies. And so many people love and remember this film!
@@Bad_Llama and it exemplifies the idea of "the power is in you." When Leroy finally understands that he is the master that he has been seeking you can see him almost seem to light up and I don't mean the Golden Glow.

Totally. These are all great movies. I especially love No Retreat No Surrender!
all those movies you mentioned are good except one , the first one on your list , the last dragon , total crap , i have seen it , total waste of time , there are countless of other movies you really can call martial arts movies and they are , .

And Leroy being such a good kind hearted dude throughout the movie, continued that by making sure Sho'nuff didn't drown at end.
Oh Eddie, I don't wanna k..k...kill anybody!
Yeah. I like to think they ran into each other a week later and decided to get a beer together now that the beef of who's the master was settled.
If he let him drown it would be murder

I'd like to think that after about maybe 4 years later Sho'Nuff shows up at Leroy's dojo to learn from him to be humble, honorable, and be a master of his glow.
@@LyricSpencer are you OUTTA YOUR MIND?!?! NOBODY DOES WHAT HE DID TO ME AND LIVES! NOBODY!!!
Those “yeahhhh” sho nuff throws around are so perfectly placed and fits so well with his villain character
And the legendary "N*99a please" line😅
When Leroy is throwing all those punches and Shonuff is blocking with just one hand is still to me one of the best openings to a fight scene. I would rewind that part too many times. Forever a Classic
Shonuff was a beast!
😂😂 N!gg@ Please!!!
Sort of like the scene in the Matrix where Neo does it at the end
Yea then he hit him with that combo and he SHO'NUFF realized that Leroy wasn't playing around
You can hear Sho'Nuff taunting him while blocking his punches, saying "Mhmm" like "Is that all you got?" He got too complacent after he delivered the slaps. Thinking it was gonna be easy. He just didn't know that next flurry sent his way was about to land. It was just a matter of Leroy adjusting his strategy and catching Sho off guard.
Sho Nuff is one of the great movie villains. Didn't care about money or anything like that, just proving he was the best there was.
Exactly. And he was a solid villain too. He was confident about what he did, he didn't use no gun or didn't want to kill nobody, he just wanted to kick some ass. Respectable right there, r.i.p to Julius Carey for bringing this iconic character to life🙌🙌🙌🙌
Kinda like Apollo Creed in Rocky.
True
He was the best until Leroy uocked the glow shonuff had the glow in his hands problem for years.
Just like someone else...from not too long ago! 😎
This is the perfect example of cheesey 80s fun that just has a lotta heart n character. I could never get tired of this movie.
It was cheesy, but it had a good message to deliver. Train and get good, then go believe in yourself.
BTW, this movie brings back fond childhood memories. I’m glad to find that I’m not the only one still thinking about it.
i love this movie
The look on Shonuffs face when Leroy realizes HE is the master is PRICELESS!
When he said muthafucka let me go was priceless 😂
@@jeffreyworthy5384and that Leroy laugh
Shut up!😡🤬
@@jeffreyworthy5384 He literally crushed his hand almost to bits.
@@verdellcouncil6616 Looking back on Leroy's laugh I as a director might not have included it. I thought it cheapened the reveal moment. A simple direct look and saying his line might have been better?
The best part of this movie is the fact that the Leroy in real life was a martial artist but not an actor. Shonuff was the exact opposite. The fact they pulled this off is nothing short of amazing!! This movie is definitely under-rated!! Love it!!!
Taimak (Leroy) makes a “blink-and-you’ll-miss-it” cameo in the 90s show WMAC Masters as the character “Striking Eagle”. He is briefly seen in a flashback fighting “Superstar” Ho Sung Pak.
and with that said by you , how many GOOD martial arts movies have you seen for real , this TLD aint even close to be good , belongs in the garbage , its something but it aint good , something you can fall asleep to when wasted .

When Sho-nuff's red glow shorted out was always one of the greatest moments in this movie to us growing up! Just classic!
Yep. Sho'nuff was simply just a big bully.

Sho’s red glow was shorting lightening bolts through Leroy’s head for a minute. Classic good vs evil special effects. The 80s were so awesome
Sho'nuff was such a great villain. Over the top and hilarious yet, somehow, some way, believable ... right down to how he could go bug-eye with his left and squint with his right.
Julius Carry stole every scene he was in.
I saw Julius Carry in a beer commercial. His hair was trimmed neat and he was wearing a suit. You wouldn't believe that was the same guy. Great actor.

The Last Dragon" is a 1985 martial arts film that incorporates elements of fantasy, comedy, and music. While it is a work of fiction, we can explore some possible connections between the characters and Kabbalah's esoteric symbolism. It's important to note that interpretations can vary, and these connections are open to individual interpretation. Here's a deep dive into some key characters:
Leroy Green (Bruce Leroy):
Leroy Green is the protagonist of the film, a martial artist on a quest for self-discovery and enlightenment. In Kabbalah, Leroy can be seen as a representation of the spiritual seeker or "Tzadik" on a journey toward unity with the divine. His pursuit of the "Glow" can be interpreted as the search for spiritual illumination and the divine spark within himself.
Sho'nuff (The Shogun of Harlem):
Sho'nuff is the main antagonist, a flamboyant and ego-driven martial artist. In Kabbalistic terms, Sho'nuff can be seen as the embodiment of the "Yetzer Ra," the inclination towards ego, selfishness, and negativity. He represents the forces that challenge Leroy's spiritual growth and serve as obstacles on his path towards enlightenment.
Laura Charles:
Laura Charles is a television host and a love interest of Leroy. She represents the concept of the Divine Feminine, the Shekhinah in Kabbalah. She serves as a source of inspiration and guidance for Leroy on his spiritual journey, symbolizing the nurturing and supportive aspect of the divine presence.
Eddie Arkadian:
Eddie Arkadian is a sleazy music producer who seeks to control and manipulate the entertainment industry. He can be seen as a representation of the materialistic and ego-driven forces that hinder spiritual growth. In Kabbalistic terms, he embodies the aspect of the "Klipot," the shells or negative forces that veil and obstruct the divine light.
Bruce Leroy's Family:
Leroy's family, particularly his younger brother Richie, represents the importance of familial and community connections in spiritual growth. They provide support, love, and a sense of grounding, reminding Leroy of his roots and the importance of staying connected to his values and heritage.
"The Last Dragon," the concept of the "Glow" plays a significant role. The Red Glow and the Blue Glow can be interpreted in relation to Kabbalistic symbolism as follows:
Red Glow:
The Red Glow represents the fiery and passionate aspect of spiritual energy. In Kabbalah, red is often associated with the sephirah of Gevurah, which represents strength, discipline, and judgment. The Red Glow can be seen as the awakening of the warrior spirit within Leroy, symbolizing his determination, perseverance, and the courage to face his fears and challenges.
Blue Glow:
The Blue Glow represents the calm and harmonious aspect of spiritual energy. In Kabbalah, blue is often associated with the sephirah of Chesed, which represents kindness, compassion, and love. The Blue Glow can be interpreted as Leroy's ability to tap into his inner peace, spiritual connectedness, and his capacity to extend compassion and understanding to others.
The contrast between the Red Glow and the Blue Glow highlights the balance of opposing forces within Leroy and the need for equilibrium in his spiritual journey. The integration of the Red and Blue Glow signifies the harmonious blending of strength and compassion, discipline and love, creating a balanced and enlightened state.
Ultimately, the journey towards the Golden Glow, the ultimate manifestation of the Glow, represents the attainment of spiritual enlightenment, the unification of all aspects of the self, and the realization of one's divine potential. It symbolizes the integration of the sephirot, the harmonious balance of spiritual energies, and the embodiment of higher consciousness.

You CAN… “There is ONE place that you hAve nOt looked… And, it is there… ONLY there, that you will fInd… The Master!”
There is ultimate POWER when you use the words "I Am".....It was in Leroy all that time, and when he said "I AM", he became that....
Real talk. We all got the "glow" somewhere inside of us.
There is only one I Am. Worship of self is a form of satanism.
@@SmoothOperator2013 Indeed. I noticed a lot of these movies always write up villains to mention the Lord is some shape or form. Only the villains, because they’re constantly trying to influence people to lose their souls.
You are wrong. The Most High requires his children to have his name. It just doesn't apply to everybody.
Isaiah 45:4
[4]For Jacob my servant's sake, and Israel mine elect, I have even called thee by thy name: I have surnamed thee, though thou hast not known me.
That's right! He spoke his power into existence!, and that's what he became! It just goes to show what you can accomplish when you put your mind to something without doubting yourself.
One of the best final fight scenes EVER. so under rated. Remember being a kid and jumping out of my seat for this. The drama. The moves *pun intended. The music. The characters. Perfect.
Thing I loved about Sho-nuff is that he was a villian or rather a rival that made sense. He was not trying to take over the world, trying to steal the girl, or find some world destroying relic. He was a viscous an cruel fighter talented an well trained by how they showed him, but that felt himself lacking an wanting to be acknowledged so he seeks out people to boost his ego, but in Leroy Sho-nuff thru his own skill sees someone that if he acknowledged him as a master would make it true. Everything he does is to get Leroy to acknowledge him as a master to fill something he knows is lacking.
That's a good analysis. Kudos
I get ‘video game final boss’ vibes from this scene. Such a masterpiece

Villain and protagonist aside, I always found it meaningful that Shonuff had reached the Glow before Leroy. The belief in ones self - that concept is powerful. Confidence is for "anyone" that believes in themselves. I still dig that flick as much as when i was a kid!
Leroy surpassed the Glow and engaged the Blur, and then the Spark, when waving his arms and then striking, respectively.
Shonuff and Leroy had different color glows. Much like different sides of the ying yang symbol. Neither totally good nor totally bad. Leroy was the most accomplished enlightened of the two of them.
Two different levels of Glow. If your hands glow you are one of the best, if you body glows then YOU ARE THE BEST!! Shonuff hands glowed and Leroys body glowed.

TLD helped you go through some tough times in your life , well well , no lemmonade at home to drink , or did have your teddy bear at night , so you had to watch TLD to help you , for fuck sake ,
@@stigtuneback1966 i know where i am in life. where r u ?
@@dr.c7679 i know perfectly well where i am , but to say this TLD is a good movie is to go WAY to far , this movie is something but it aint no good martial arts movie , its something one watches then falling a sleep to .
@@stigtuneback1966 maybe to each their own then, no? My experience is sui generis as well as a majority of the positive posts here who also can relate.
it surprises me to remember how much this movie shaped my desire to want to learn Martial Arts.
Got to see this in theater recently, with Taimak in attendance. When Sho-nuff called out Leeroy's name, we all cheered. Such a good time.
Shonuff will always be my favorite charismatic antagonist. Him saying Leroy’s name with that music is just pure awesome.
Also, I think Shonuff should be a Tekken guest fighter for 8 and to honor the late actor. He has the trait of Tekken. If I want to guess, he and Leroy are the inspiration for Tekken.
I've been saying sho nuff or Leroy should be in a Tekken game for YEARS more so sho nuff
But you have Marshal Law for the Bruce Lee. Best thing is try and recreate Leroy
Saw this in the theater when it first came out. Sho'Nuff starting glowing and the entire audience lost their mind. It was great.
This movie is one of the best martial arts films in history. Is it a little cheesy? Yes. Is it wonderful? Also, yes.
underrated moment in all the glow scenes of my second favorite movie of all time, is when Sho'Nuff throws that punch and Leroy flips him. Beautifully choreographed and executed
The 1st time I saw this movie was with my older sister, she now has m.s and is almost like a vegetable.. this movie always made her smile....I miss them days 😢
When Shonuff reappears, his hands start to glow and the music kicks in you’re like… “Holy shit! It’s ON”!
“You are the LAST DRAGON, you possessed the power of the GLOW!”
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
“I can’t TEACH YOU NO MORE!!”
Soul Glow
Rip Julius Carry 3rd ,vanity and Leo O'Brien😪😪😪😪
I remember him from Briscoe County.
@@AlejandroGuzman-mh7me don't forget "doctor doctor" show was hilarious
He also guest starred on Boy Meets World
Leroy essentially went Ultra Instinct before Dragon Ball Super made the phrase popular.
I’m 41 and a long time anime fan as well as a fan of this movie since childhood. I think movies like this is why so many black people got into anime later in life.
Bro the disbelief on Leroys face when he saw shonuffs glow.....this scared the shit outta me and my cousins.
Leroy had a look of panic😅
This was and still is one of my most FAVORITE movies of all time, unique, martial arts/fantasy mixed with GREAT characters and fun performances, AND soundtrack!! LOVE IT.
5:53 I'm hollering. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 The desperation in his voice is f**king hilarious!!
Say what you will about Sho Nuff, but, he is rocking the Chucks! You gotta give props to a man who appreciates classics style, quality, and value. THAT is why Sho Nuff is, was, and always will be "THE MASTER"!
WHO IS .. THE BADDEST!!?

“Kiss my converse”
one of the greatest kung fu movies ever
THE GREATEST KUNG FU MOVIE OF ALL TIME!
I grew up on this movie. I'm always shocked that no one I meet has ever seen it. I always and up being like "you just have to watch it. Me explaining the greatness of The Last Dragon will hardly do it the justice it deserves."
Facts. Slap anyone who say different
Facts!!!!!
I still say this is the ultimate 80s movie!
This movie will ALWAYS be my favorite martial arts movie. It was so fun and this final fight got you on the edge of your seat the whole time!!! Nostalgia 😊
Rest in Heaven Julius Carry, Vanity and Leo O'Brien.
A lot of greatness came out in the 80’s
Ah yeah, the days when you could literally just walk around with your karate uniform on as a fashion choice. I'm not kidding. People really did that.
It was the eighties. I had a pair of karate shoes back in the day.
Yeah, when I saw roadhouse for the first time, it cracked me up that Dalton wears the top part of a karate gi with a pair of jeans.
Even Ninja wear 😂
That's funny, strange and cool
That is hands down the best martial-arts movie of all-time!
Yep! Big trouble in Little China and Kung Fu Hustle are legendary too!
The Karate Kid trilogy too
Showdown in tokyo and Enter the Dragon as well.
Who is still watching this in 2025 with me?
I am
Yes sir😂

“To seek safety, one must go to the heart of danger”
Face your fears folks!
That’s for the explanation.
Hands down the most realistic fight scene of all time! Vanity = sexual napalm! That woman was so fine it was ridiculous!
She truly was, just insane how gorgeous that woman was, and especially in Action Jackson!
Vanity was SUPER GORGEOUS 😍 May she rest in peace
I’m stealing “sexual napalm” that’s a good one (and yes Vanity was insanely hot)
Back down guys she's my lady she don't know it yet but she's mine.....lol. Mad crush on her when I was a kid. RIP she will be missed. Just the way she sang gave me goosebumps. She was smokin hot too.
She's fine as hell in Tales from the Crypt also.
The practical effects and the storytelling are still that pif. Electrifying! Get that glow baby!
the beautiful secret to this movie was that it played like a comic book, never took itself too seriously, and that made it accessible and fun
watching this made me drop a tear mane.... LEROY!!!!... you warmed up yet... Then that music come on.... pure classic...
I'm 48,I remember watching this as a teen. Man I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!! SUCH A CLASSIC , My son is 16 & he likes this movie too. Sooo sad they don't make movies like this anymore 😢
The music and the zoom in on Shonuffs face is a few seconds of movie perfection....
Nothing like the 80s
Me and my two white buddies saw this at 11 years old in a packed theatre, we were the only white folks there. Still the best time we have ever had at the movies! So much fun! I watch this move at least once a year.
I saw this movie 5 times in a hood theater in L.A. Taimak and Vanity (Denise Matthews) had great chemistry and they were two of the most beautiful people ever seen on the screen.
Used to laugh my ass off at the kick that put Leroy through the wall😂😂 love this movie!! My childhood was a beast
