The 5 sided star never comes out correctly aligned right? it's never straight I saw a tip to fix that, to make an upside down star, and then flip it vertically. it works for me
When you do this can you sell it commercially? Is the dog part copy righted because you got it from Google? How does all of that work? I would like to make commercial cut files for Circut, I can do some stuff on Inkscape but I'm having a hard time understanding when stuff is copyrighted!

Help requested here. When I click off the newly created nodes, when you do the first segment of the heartbeat, I haven't been able to select them on their own to duplicate. It makes me select them plus the dog head. My go around to be able to finish the tutorial was then to take that duplicated layer and delete the dog head's nodes, leaving only the heartbeat but I'd imagine for other projects this might not be as convenient. Any idea why I am not able to just select the heartbeat section and duplicate? I'm using the newer inkscape.

What OS are you using? I've noticed that Inkscape can't open .ai files in Windows, but opens them just fine in Linux. If you're already using Linux, it might just be a problem with that particular .ai file. The others should work.

There should also be a link to download the SVG on that page with the image. As for using AI files in Inkscape in a Windows environment, I'm afraid it isn't possible. Sorry.
Hey. I've been able to work with ai files and I'm using windows 10. Maybe 90% of them work so I have to cross my fingers and hope they work but it's better than nothing. I have a problem with path functions. for example, this cut path function doesn't work when I use selected objects, and its only works when I use edit path by nodes. and when I use edit path to use path functions like the cut path I can't delete them because I am using edit path so I have to back to select object mode then I don't have cut paths to delete them .any one know can help?

I followed all the steps which are given on your description link,but still my Inkscape remains in bright theme instead of turning into the dark one. Where should I extract my files ? Hey Nick, when I try to change the shape of the lines by holding control, it doesnt do what it does at your pc. instead it stretches the body of the line and distorts the whole body of the formal line. What can I do about it? I have the feeling, that your Inkskape has totally different Features than mine. :( Also great Video
Hi Shannon not sure if you figured it out yet but for the text all you have to do is click on the desired text and click on the path tool and click object to path and that will allow you to do the heartbeat with text.
Oh hey so I actually just figured it out, make sure you don't download the PNG version of it and make sure it's the vector graphic that you are downloading
at 8:31, you show snapping the duplicate onto the original. I can't seem to get that part to work. I'm on mac. Version of inkscape is 1.0beta2 (2b71d25, 2019-12-03). Any idea if there is setting I need to turn on?
My Inkscape doesn't say "Affect", although I do have the 4 buttons there to select. I also can't select the rounded join or rounded cap. Those selections are there -- I just can't change or select them.

I can help you out setting up a portfolio, also if you do decide to proceed with freelancing, I highly recommend making "speed arts" basically a time lapse of you making the design this will help you get clients, and acts as another way to promote your services.

Sounds like you downloaded the wrong file. Look for the .svg format; not the .png

ah, nevermind. somehow the "enable snapping" for the bezier tool got turned off from earlier in the tutorial for me. Thanks for sharing!!
