One of the most helpful and time saving features for me, which I only discovered recently, is, that you can transfer properties of one object to the next (type of stroke, color and fill) by just copy and pasting them to the next object. Copy the object whith the properties you want, then select the object, you want them transfered to and just shift + ctrl + v and voila!
I tip my hat, sir. You have a well-structured lecture, you explain what you do, how you do it, and you do not forget to explain the paths you take and the tools you use. Thank you very much!
I fully agree that Nick's masterclass is a must purchase if you plan on using Inkscape. As a long time Blender user, one of the most amazing features of Inkscape are its non-destructive path effects. Very similar to modifiers in Blender. Extremely powerful and great for making modifications.
Nice to go to the basics and then take it a step further. Very helpful. I have signed up for your course a while ago and refer back to it often, thanks.
I am totally flabberghasted watching this! How on earth do you come up with the approaches to this stuff? The way you created the mouth icon ... I'd NEVER think of creating something in such an elaborate way. Starting with the tiling effect, just to get a quarter of the top line of the mouth by using the negative space between the circles 🤯 Just so impressive.
It took a little bit of experimenting to come up with that, but it does become second nature with enough practice. You start seeing the shapes in everything eventually.
Thanks Nick. Can you do a video on your thought process of how you decided which shapes to use for what please? Take the guitar item for example. I would have never thought of using a rectangle for the body. I would have used two circles and probably spent the next two hours cussing out Inkscape because I couldn't figure out a way to connect them properly.
This tutorial shows how to build icons by combining simple shapes and lines, simplifying the "drawing" process. It serves as a framework to the composition of any other icons more or less complex. 👍
Wow. I still not finished the video but I saw a lot that I have to go back and review to note and learn. Very cool, very instructive Thanks so much for share
Brilliant as always thanks Nick. You could just select both waves with a marqee using the node tool, then select the join icon - Inkscape will then join any overlapping nodes.
Amazing tut. I wish there was a way of explaining the planning process. I learned drafting and I understand how to create a 3d object by adding and subtracting features. This somehow still eludes me.
I absolutely LOVE all of your videos and I bought the membership to your Master Class because of that. However!..... (small suggestion/request) can you review your audio quality/volume level of your mic? In this video, there's a lot of reverb and the volume level is definitely not as loud as most any other video on YT. It's definitely too quiet. Anyway, GREAT tutorials. Love what you're doing!
Please help me, I'm a beginner, I tried to do what you taught, but why when the shape builder my image becomes lines so it can't be shaped. I hope you can help. thankyou
Hello..i have scanned sketches which are photographed and I want to convert these in digital format for printing..its it possible to create outline drawings from such photographs..like tracing but without actually tracing out..thanks.hooe u can help
Path>union fills the shape (removing interior lines) Path combine keeps the lines, you can then Path > Fracture and remove the unneeded segments by clicking and deleting them (using 3 overlapping circles to form the basketball)
hey i am a begginer plz upload a vdo how can i convert a ai image icon or black and white sheoliti to vector with inscape and upload it in mircostock site plz plz plz
All jokes aside, a someone who's been using Inkscape for about 5 years, this video has been pretty insightful. I barely even touch the shape builder tool, so I was never aware of what it could do. This video was a nice demonstration of that.

Waves; why do we join the nodes rather than select all 3 and Path > Union?
Path>union fills the shape (removing interior lines)
Path combine keeps the lines, you can then Path > Fracture and remove the unneeded segments by clicking and deleting them (using 3 overlapping circles to form the basketball)
I was referring to the waves logo, where the nodes were joined together. I was wondering why not select the 3 waves and union.
if i hold my ctrl key it does not change the behavior of the shape
