Sauron didn't have control of the Orc army when the siege began. Adar had betrayed him by this point. Sauron only gets control again at the end of this season, just as the siege breaks through. Still a funny joke, tho

I don't like to kick people while their down. But I really disliked it when the writers of this show wanted people to think that the name Gandalf was a short version or a misheard version of Grand elf. Because J. R. R. Tolkien chose every name of the characters of his books very carefully, and many of them he took from Norse sagas and/or Norse mythology. Gandálfur (or Gandalf) was one the dwarf's name in the old and famous Icelandic poem Völuspá. Gandur literally means stick, staff or even a magic wand, and álfur means elf. So the meaning of Gandalf is staff elf (magic wand elf). And if you know that then you would know that Tolkien didn't grab this name out of thin air like the writers of this show want you to think.
While I agree that the writers of this show should go back to being the Dora the Explorer rejects they are, you can't exactly have Gandalf say his name came from ancient norse sagas. He DOES need an in universe name. Just not....not like this...

That can be tricky, considering how schizophrenic audiences are. Add stakes, sure. But be prepared to have to show the consequences of the stakes being too high, which in tern can cause audiences to turn against the show ironically. Audiences are weird like that.
It's not about the destination, it's about the journey. In a lot of stories, we can figure out what the ending is going to be early on, but if we like the characters, we want to see how they get to that point. The problem with The Rings of Power is that nobody likes the characters.
I love how in season 1, producer guy told screen writer guy to stop producing things weird with the r sounds (galadriel, valinor, numenor, sauron, etc.) but now producer guy is doing it
Throughout the show it was incredible how flexible the non-important-characters were. Like when everyone wanted the Númenor lady dead and she was pushed into the sea, she then gets out and everyone instantly cheers for her to be a queen, until some random paper is brought that just mentions Sauron and now everyone immediately wants her dead again with absolutely NO explanation lol
They genuinely could have done a show about Raid Shadow Legends if all they think a character is is a skin and weapon. they didn't need to spend 5 billion butchering this lol

It's very "internet", the way it's portrayed. He says something along the lines of: "They will call me Gandalf, won't they", so it's not that he chose the name, it's what he will be called because the halflings just thinks he is a grand elf. I think it's a rather cute backstory of how the halflings gave him his name and it stuck with him.
I couldn't even make it beyond the first 10 minutes of the first new Hobbit movie, there was no way I was gonna torture myself with this. Some stories aren't meant to be translated to other media. I've got the books on my shelf, I can just read them again if I want to sink back into that world.
Being serious for a moment, this trend every damn prequel has of "revealing" how a character got their name is so irritating. Why can't people just get their name at birth like a normal person anymore? Not everything needs an origin story.

I'm more invested in the drama of Writer Guy and Producer Guy struggling to keep their eyes open than in anything that has happened in the actual Rings of Power show.
In the context of the skit, the show is terrible and difficult to sit through, particularly if you need to watch scenes more than once to take notes, so even these two are having trouble following it (but too much money has been spent to stop making it). In reality, Ryan is likely experiencing the troubles of being a new parent and the child does not like having a regular sleep schedule that aligns with the parents (3 in the morning and you want to get your 5 hours of sleep to be functional, but then the baby starts crying).
"How does Gandalf survive the battle with the Balrog?" "By totally dying." "So, he's no longer in the movies." "No, he comes back in white." "How did he do that?" "It was super easy, barely an inconvenience."

I know that the LOTR is the OG - but as child it was too heavy as a story, so I started apreciating it only later in my life - as a story and the way it was told, the world builing, the different languages, cultures, races, etc. Silmarilion - I read that waaaay later in my life and I fell in love with the story and the mythology. The moment I saw some reactions vids of the travesty called "The Rings of Power" - I was done before I even started. And the more I heard the more I was appalled and horrified. I like the idea that RoP is so terrible that even Writer Guy and Producer Guy are starting to have second thoughts about making more seasons, but they're stuck in contractual obligation and can't get out of it.
I will say they finally brought back some of the proper characterization of Sauron and some of the plot this season with Númenor by the end….but then threw in a bunch of other stuff that didn’t make sense for the fresh season and the pacing was so bad in the first half
@ Tolkien fans don’t count because they will sook about anybody taking creative license. It’s the same with star wars fans and trek fans and anything that has a massive fan base. For people who have actually watched both seasons the general consensus is season 2 is better than season 1.

@Staenhus surely, that only makes it easier. You can control literally everything when you're doing CGI and don't have to compensate for the environment. But either way, that's just incompetence - if you can't make the final result look good (or, like. Look. At all. You can't see shit is what I'm saying) then it doesn't matter what mediums or techniques you're using, you're doing it wrong. (Btw, I think you're probably right that filmmaking has changed a lot and people who used to be brilliant at previous techniques got sacked but were replaced by people who were never required to become good at the new stuff. But this is hardly a good reason. When films stopped being black and white, they had to learn a new way to light, and they did. Why has it been decades of greenscreen and we're getting garbage worse than when it begun.)
Don't know if this advice applies to you, but just in case: I had the same problem with a lot of show and series. Turns out that I was watching versions with HDR coloring. Now if the screen you're watching it on can actually handle HDR, this makes everything way better. But if you have a normal monitor, dark scenes become pretty much unwatchable. You want the non-HDR version if your device isn't HDR compatible.
Ofcourse they did, its been watched by over 150 million unique users so its worth the investment for Amazon Prime. Most people actually enjoy it so dont go online to complain.
The funny thing is for any other franchise out there this episode of Pitch Meeting would be the usual entertaining deadpan sarcasm and comic exaggeration Ryan uses for his satire. However, with Rings of Power it turns into a highly accurate, true to life dramatization of the shows production process :P

Remeber how the ring seduced isilidur also not a thing. I have problems with rings of power but it dies alot well. Saurons manipulation of the elves has been fantastic. Music in season 2 was great. Adar was inserted But makes logic sense that others would challenge sauron for control of melkors army. That said, numuninor has been pretty lackluster.
Imagine being a writer for a billion dollar show and the studio tells you that the show doesnt need to make sense OR be popular. Just do anything you want. Thats gotta be a fun job.
My guess is that they ask for some event every episode. So the writers who initially would like to use the chance to create an epic work end up hurrying things. Even a mediocre writer wouldn't pass on scenes of foreshadowing the Balrog.
The worst part is that it probably isn't like that, because any writer with that much freedom would create something better than this mess, hell, many viewers after three beers would come up with something more compelling. I think that the corporate machine with some statistics, selling points, pc policies and tight time schedule is more to blame. Businessmen are terrible artists.
The comedy in this one is top of the mountain PEAK. I am a person who is VeEeEeRrRrRy difficult to entertain. Very difficult. Laughing is a foreign concept to me. Even Pitch Meetings only get a chuckle out of me once in a blue moon. This one? This one just had me entertained the whole way through and got multiple laughs out of me. That "well..." bit was particularly great. The second "well" joke was even better. Most people aren't even gonna get it but that makes it all the more funny. I love it. Keep up the good work!

The amount of inaccuracies from the books to the show, I understand it was a LOT of time to go through, but if instead of having a big storyline, they showed smaller stories from the universe, every episode or something, while being accurate, it could’ve been more enjoyable and fun.

After watching hours upon hours of critic of this show, Ryan's lighthearted Pitch Meeting feels like a fresh and welcome breeze.
My GOD did I make the right decision by not giving this a second chance. That Gandalf name thing alone would have made me punch through my screen...
It's very "internet", the way it's portrayed. He says something along the lines of: "They will call me Gandalf, won't they", so it's not that he chose the name, it's what he will be called because the halflings just thinks he is a grand elf. I think it's a rather cute backstory of how the halflings gave him his name and it stuck with him.

I'm more invested in the drama of Writer Guy and Producer Guy struggling to keep their eyes open than in anything that has happened in the actual Rings of Power show.
In the context of the skit, the show is terrible and difficult to sit through, particularly if you need to watch scenes more than once to take notes, so even these two are having trouble following it (but too much money has been spent to stop making it). In reality, Ryan is likely experiencing the troubles of being a new parent and the child does not like having a regular sleep schedule that aligns with the parents (3 in the morning and you want to get your 5 hours of sleep to be functional, but then the baby starts crying).
My favourite part from Lord of the Rings is when Gandalf exclaims to the Balrog “SUPER EASY, BARELY AN INCONVENIENCE”

The lore isn't really all that off considering they weren't given the rights to the parts of the story that were collected and given to us by Christopher Tolkien who's lifes work seems to get forgotten by people who are absurdly dedicated to accuracy and seem to think it was all his dad.

I like the idea that RoP is so terrible that even Writer Guy and Producer Guy are starting to have second thoughts about making more seasons, but they're stuck in contractual obligation and can't get out of it.
I will say they finally brought back some of the proper characterization of Sauron and some of the plot this season with Númenor by the end….but then threw in a bunch of other stuff that didn’t make sense for the fresh season and the pacing was so bad in the first half

(Btw, I think you're probably right that filmmaking has changed a lot and people who used to be brilliant at previous techniques got sacked but were replaced by people who were never required to become good at the new stuff. But this is hardly a good reason. When films stopped being black and white, they had to learn a new way to light, and they did. Why has it been decades of greenscreen and we're getting garbage worse than when it begun.)
Don't know if this advice applies to you, but just in case: I had the same problem with a lot of show and series. Turns out that I was watching versions with HDR coloring. Now if the screen you're watching it on can actually handle HDR, this makes everything way better. But if you have a normal monitor, dark scenes become pretty much unwatchable. You want the non-HDR version if your device isn't HDR compatible.

I have problems with rings of power but it dies alot well. Saurons manipulation of the elves has been fantastic. Music in season 2 was great. Adar was inserted But makes logic sense that others would challenge sauron for control of melkors army.
That said, numuninor has been pretty lackluster.

Imagine being a writer for a billion dollar show and the studio tells you that the show doesnt need to make sense OR be popular. Just do anything you want. Thats gotta be a fun job.
My guess is that they ask for some event every episode. So the writers who initially would like to use the chance to create an epic work end up hurrying things. Even a mediocre writer wouldn't pass on scenes of foreshadowing the Balrog.
The worst part is that it probably isn't like that, because any writer with that much freedom would create something better than this mess, hell, many viewers after three beers would come up with something more compelling. I think that the corporate machine with some statistics, selling points, pc policies and tight time schedule is more to blame. Businessmen are terrible artists.

The comedy in this one is top of the mountain PEAK. I am a person who is VeEeEeRrRrRy difficult to entertain. Very difficult. Laughing is a foreign concept to me. Even Pitch Meetings only get a chuckle out of me once in a blue moon.
This one? This one just had me entertained the whole way through and got multiple laughs out of me. That "well..." bit was particularly great. The second "well" joke was even better. Most people aren't even gonna get it but that makes it all the more funny. I love it.

The amount of inaccuracies from the books to the show, I understand it was a LOT of time to go through, but if instead of having a big storyline, they showed smaller stories from the universe, every episode or something, while being accurate, it could’ve been more enjoyable and fun.
The inaccuracoes are vastly overplayed though, and on par with things PJ changed for his trilogy.
They wanted a Game of Thrones, not an anthology show that respects its viewer's intelligence.

@anabee8310 HBO used to make the best television. S8 of GoT soured me a bit so I don't know what there current stuff is like. But The Sopranos, The Wire, Boardwalk empire and deadwood are all superb. Do they still make the best tv?
