  • This is the fifteenth in a series of videos I’m going to produce to document the building of my Trumpeter 1:200 model Titanic. In this episode I cover a few things:
    - A dry test fit of the superstructure decking.
    - The pipe routing for the funnels smoke system.
    - Combining and filling the superstructure sides.
    - Finishing the 24" x 19" portholes.
    - Protecting the scaledecks with matt varnish.
    Hopefully this gives some tips! I am really happy with my results, but as always happy to hear other ideas people have had.
    It’s taken months to work out how I am going to build this, and I have quite a lot left to do.
    It’s just a hobby for me so don’t expect videos every other day.
    This isn’t really a how to guide, it’s just my way of building things. If some of you get some ideas from it that's brilliant, but equally if you have any suggestions, I’m all ears.

    She's slowly but surely coming along. I can already tell that this will be one of the finest Titanic models to hit the water when you're done. I have the Minicraft 1/350 kit and you are an especially huge inspiration for me to maybe one day convert her to RC, so thanks a lot for that. Keep at it! :D

      Thanks! Really appreciate the comment. I’ve never built the Minicraft kit actually, hope it’s going well?

    Hi, glad you got your KA !! I noticed a great little jig in the the middle of the printed stuff to form the bench seats around which is a great touch! Even the little bridge bell comes in 4 pieces! Good video as usual! JH ;-)

      Hi! Yes I really liked the jig for the benches, great idea. Defiantly makes the job a lot easier, and just makes sure the benches all look similar to each other.
      Glad you got the KA kit too. Have you made any impression on it so far, it’s all overwhelming I thought 😅
      Cheers, Rob

      @@TheModelBoatGuy Hi yer! No, no action yet as stuff still coming in! Now waiting for A deck from Scale the Titanic and I may have to order a further couple of bits. Still haven't got motors yet either. The list is endless! I don't think there will be much of the original kit left at the rate of replacement parts I seem to be buying. The KA instructions are a bit vague. Some parts are numbered but not included in the instructions which is a bit iffy! I am now getting close to finishing my wooden ships rigging thank goodness, very time consuming! Have the best Xmas possible and stay safe! JH ;-D

    Thnx for doing all this for our enjoyment. I learn tons every time
    As you added the window frames, the music was killer, I couldn’t find that acoustic version. BertySolo on ITunes just has the singing one.
    Could you point me in the right direction. I know music is an unrelated topic but that was just so good.
    Thnx a mill’ Brian

      Thanks for your comment! I really appreciate it. Yes I really like that bit of music, sounds a bit like the Fureys I think. It’s called Fresh Fallen Snow by Chris Haugen:

    I think you need three smoke generators. Because the smoke is not so thick

    • @TheModelBoatGuy
      @TheModelBoatGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      its a tricky one this, the generator takes a little while to spool up, when running full on it produces a god whack of smoke. I'll have to see, its one of those things that will only be worth using on a still day otherwise the smoke will be largely invisable when blown by the wind anyway! th-cam.com/video/iQT5-g9wm7s/w-d-xo.html

    I know the effort involved in posting blow-by- blow builds. I do them on the Brit RC Tank Warefare site. Nicely done.

    Actually. #4 funnel did carry smoke from the galleys and fireplaces through a small chimney in the forward portion. It would be less than what came out the other three but it was often there as the galleys fired up for meals. A video of old footage of the Olympic is on TH-cam showing smoke quite visibly rising from #4.

    • @TheModelBoatGuy
      @TheModelBoatGuy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you are correct, I meant it wasn't used as an extract from the boiler rooms. I mean really the 4th funnel was a fantastic bit of innovation on the Olympic class liners. Apart from the other functions it served it removed the need for hundreds of ventilators like most ships of the era had. It gave the ships a much cleaner look.

      @bobbyrayofthefamilysmith24 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Imagine if Olympic had survived into the modern era moored up somewhere as a hotel and museum ship like the Queen Mary. It would be an amazing attraction it's such a shame Olympics service life wasn't long enough to see her become a historical ship.

    Great video thanks. Good to see the UV glue used on the portholes.. I have the Ka and the Pontos sets for my static model.. they both have good and bad points.. Ka Lifeboats are gorgeous but the Pontos chocks are much nicer. Pontos mast locations are more substantial but Ka Davits and Cranes are superior.... I'm sure they collaborate to get our money!!

    • @TheModelBoatGuy
      @TheModelBoatGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ha I’m sure you are absolutely right Nigel! Elements of each are better than the other and we end up getting both. Probably six and two threes which set is better. And very hard to tell until you have both in your hands. Hope your build is coming along ok??

    Are you an engineer? You're very good with electronics and how flows work both in electronics and fluids (Obviously). I'm really liking this series and almost watched all of it. I'm sometimes amazed by how well you explain things.

    • @TheModelBoatGuy
      @TheModelBoatGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Morning, thanks for your comment! Yes I am an engineer. I’m an electrical engineer though I did study electronics too. Fluid dynamics isn’t something I know much about but as flow is normally quite similar to current I can sort of get away with things!
      Glad you’re enjoying the series, happy new year!
