It starts kinda strong and then you get to these grinding missions and all that potential goes to waste.. no idea why most studios think this is interesting to us. Similar thing happened with Watch Dogs 2 - at some point you don't know which is side stuff and which is story, it all feels the same. I gave up real quick on both of them. I'm disappointed with Mafia 3 because initially I got quite invested in these characters. Every company should take notes from CD Projekt Red and Rockstar.
Yeah I feel the same, game is incredibly boring which is a damn shame because it legit had a lot of potential. But god damn I'm bored and barely want to play it and I've barely put time into it.

Playing this since it was free... but Joe nailed it.. the cut scenes are amazingly done. Graphics, voice acting, motion capture etc... but the grind omg... I only did 2 districts I'm already bored... it's the same shit over and over...

I personally liked Mafia 2 better, but that might be because I could never get pass the "Lucky B***ard" Mission due to a bug in the train yard. I cleared the whole thing, spent half an hour fiddling with the levers for the train with no luck at all.

Same here, i wished for a follow up on Vito, hoping to see him take revenge on the family for killing joe. When i saw that wasnt gonna happen i got over it and hoped this new installment would be worth my money, after the 13th mission i uninstalled and just came to youtube to watch the cutscenes, cuz honestly i felt my playing just grinding the boring gameplay to get to the next cutscene. What a disgrace.
That does not make him less of a gamer dude. Reviewers like Angry Joe are there to inform the consumers (You and me) about the game they have played and if it is a game we will enjoy or dislike. If you didn't listen to Joe, you might have bought Sonic Free Riders, Mindjack or Ride to Hell. If being a gamer means you have to buy every shitty game without knowing if it is good, then I'm selling my consoles and everything that has to do with gaming.
Nah if a person agrees with a reviewer in game tastes they do well to listen. I myself enjoyed Maffia 3 for me it wasnt wasted money but for others it might be. It is a very flawed game with a very strong setting and great story atleast in my oppinion. But it do suffer from its mission design, and its technical issues especially on PC but it seems to be consoles to. :)
They should make the next mafia game take place during the 1970's where mob violence was on the rise or even in the 1990's where key mafia players were going to prison

I just played the demo for this game. Omg, I was blown away by the story. The betrayal scene hit me soooo hard and I was so tempted to buy it. Really wish they delayed this game, could've been a master piece.
the fallout 1&2 Interplay Crpg style gameplay will never return now Bethesda owns it they comit 100% to Wrpg stlye. . if you prefer the old Crpg style try Wasteland 2 or shadowrun for a cyberpunk twist or pillars of eternity for fantasy
So in this review he never mention the racism in this game, when that's what it is driven by. He is a good game reviewer but fail to mention that 1 little thing. I feel that if you aren't black you wouldn't actually understand this game. It would just be another brain dead GTA game to most people.This review shows this, but I will agree that this is a 7/10 game.
This game honestly has one of the best stories I’ve ever played. Some of the BEST cutscenes I’ve ever seen in a game. Some of the best characters I’ve ever seen in a game. Probably THE best use of music in a game I’ve ever played. And then just reaaaaally terrible gameplay. The gameplay is the worst part. lol
Agree and escaping from the cops with a car it's almost impossible, always a police car spawns 10 meters from you with no possible way to avoid it. It's really a shame, 4/10

I started playing this game and the story looks so interesting at the beginning. With the preacher talking about Lincoln and the music and everything. It feels great. But the gameplay isn't good. I like shooting with those old guns but it's not enough to make the game good. The game is called Mafia so I was expecting you being part of a family and doing organized crime shit but this is just a revenge story. I played a game about mafia years ago, I think it was Godfather. Not sure which one tho and your character was part of a family and you were fighting against other families. It feeled like a game about mafia. Mafia 3 just feels like a story about someone wanting revenge who go on a murder spree

I remember playing Godfather II on the Xbox 360 years ago and that game had you roughing up the underboss if you want to get their racket with the highest cash and make it a part of yours and if you rough him up too much, you'd lose so much cash and the racket itself. Did I mention you could customize you're character and the 3 people you enlisted to your party, as well as the mafia you control?

Christoper Bacani I don't put this game over Watch Dogs because it had pretty graphics. The majority of the game is boring missions that are all the same. Watch Dogs main guy was pretty boring but when the majority of your game is spent doing the exact same missions you have a bigger problem.

I tried to get Platnium on my Watch Dogs trophies and at the end of each sidemission, you just do the same thing, but with a slightly more interesting thug to kill. No cut scene, no nuthin!

Tvbedsofa Kai literally one of the first guns is a Thompson. Also it doesn't require guys in suits to be mafia. You should watch some documentaries and such and focus a little less on Hollywood mafia

Got this game for free for PS Plus. 4 hours in, and I made a horrible realization. This game that takes place in 1968 has 0 Beatles songs on it's radio soundtrack. Call me crazy, but not having Beatles songs in your game in the 60's seems like a massive oversight, especially when the radio has 100 tracks from other great artists from that time period.
Mafia 2 was a fucking masterpiece. I agree that in Mafia 3 you don't feel at all like a Mafia member. To say I am a diehard Mafia fan this game was a waste of money, it felt like the game was unfinished, it had such potential.

I agree. A lot of them are becoming more and more hollow. Or, they're good, but littered with micro-transactions. But mostly, they feel incomplete or empty. Take Xcom 2 for example. I loved it, but after so many hours, I realized that the game only really had a hand-full of stages/missions to play through. It got repetitive in a bad-way. All games are repetitive, but lately they feel empty and have a monotonous kind of repetitive.
Almost 8 years later and the game is so incredibly broken. I’m fighting with the game just to finish the story! I’ve had crazy FPS drops, cutscenes that went dark or had no audio, I even had a save file glitch out near the end (thank god I could go in the ps4 settings and delete a recent save). And the most annoying bug of all, after collecting about 70% of the collectibles, I loaded up my game again and ALL of them were returned to where I picked them up and my progression was reset to 0. 8 YEARS LATER. Ridiculous!

Honestly glad Joe stuck to the roots of what is wrong with this game rather then just bitching about graphics and FPS for the entire review. Why Mafia 3 just didn't stick to its original design is beyond me, Mafia 2 was a superb game as its story telling and unique dynamic missions were perfect, yet Mafia 3 tries to imitates GTA's world with a mix of Ubisoft style objectives.
There really wasn't that much to do in mafia 2 besides the missions and you could only buy cloths and car upgrades. In GTA IV you could do much more things with your money!
This game should be called Taxi Driver the game because the main character you control: Lincoln Clay is a complete rip of Scorecse's Travis Bickle. Think about it; both characters are Vietnam vets suffering from pts, they both wear the same army jackets they both are psychotic murders from the brain dead mission design. It all adds up. Lincoln Clays a black version of Travis Bickle.

Well, Mafia II wasn't about "Mafias"... It was about a nobody that get into the Italian Mafia and keeps being a nobody... If you want to play as the OG Mafia, then go play Godfather I: The videogame. TLDR: It's a "meh...".

But at least Mafia 2 still had the feeling of you being within a deep rooted crime syndicate which it demonstrated with its gameplay (Paying off cops when you get pulled over for speeding, gangsters pullin out their weapons and threatening you if you decide to pull out yours first, etc.) And its story. You cared for Vito and his family, and for the guys Vito ran with. Our main man Joe, Henry, Clemente, and the list goes on. So you really cared when something developed within the story. And in Mafia 2, you felt like you were truly within some kind of grimy, seedy, untrustworthy underworld. In Mafia 3, you are the Black Punisher. You can't identify with Clay at all really, and you don't really care for the other side characters. It keeps trying to switch between a shooter, and a story driven experience. However, I will say Mafia 3 absolutely destroys Mafia 2 in terms of what you can do within the world regarding activities. And Mafia 3 is sorta equal to 2 in terms of gunplay. Even though 3 has some issues regarding AI in gunfights. It's still a very fun game tho. And one final note, I will have to disagree with you about Mafia 2 not being about the Mafias and the families. Mafia 2 very much focused on the different families and how they worked and while they took some liberties with hiw families took newcomers in, it still was way more satisfying and easy to understand than Mafia 3's story.
The whole point of the game is getting revenge against the Don of the Marcano family who's supposed to be loosely based on the Godfather himself. It's not like the title is completely irrelevant. I see what you're saying but if you buy a game just because of a word in the title and assume you know what the games about than you'll be disappointed really really often.
Looked like a good game at the beginning, but as the story goes on, it’s just a bunch of the same shit. My roommate at the time was hyping it up so I was kind of excited, but really disappointed once I played it. And you said it best Joe; after a strong opening, it gets so repetitive, I stopped caring so I stopped playing. The soundtrack was fire though. Hendrix, the stones, James brown, etc. soundtrack gets a 10/10, game itself I give a 3/10. Good breakdown of the game though Joe. Love your videos.
i can't stand when you can't customize your character in an open-world game. even GTAV threw in outfits, haircuts, etcetera. maybe it's a stupid thing, but in any open-world game, i always want to make the character look like myself, so i kinda feel like i'm in the game. anyone else do that? or am i just lame?
No, this is to be expected in an open world game (at least I think so). It's just that they shot themselves in the foot by not including customization, it was a step in the wrong direction.
hey guys i recommend Yakuza 0, it's an openworld action/adventure brawler with RPG elements set in 80s Japan. it's got an amazing story and soundtrack as well as tons of sidecontent and minigames all in to very interactive cities while the entire game is in 60FPS. look up the Yakuza 0 E3 trailer for some gameplay
Mafia 2 was never repetitive. You did different things in every mission. Sure, the methods were more or less the same, but at least the game wasn't making you grind for shit. Shit you do in mafia 2 by chapter: 1) Fight in world war 2. 2) Take a ride in joe's car, learn some shit about the world, get introduced to vito's family, set up a minor conflict (vito has to pay off his family's debt). Drive joe's car to guiseppe to get discharged. Get a car of your own and pimp the shit outta it. Go to bruskis and become contracted to steal a car. Steal the car from thugs that try to kill you, bring it back after a wild police chase and get paid 500 for it, where joe takes 300. Go home 3) Talk to derrick to get gainful employment as you made a promise to vito's mom. You go there, realize it's back breaking work and throw a fit. They realize you work for joe, verify it and make you go around beating up dockworkers to get money. Then you go to a bar, meet henry and luca and are contracted to rob a fucking government building for gas stamps. You do that and realize that the gas stamps expire at midnight, so now you gotta drive like hell to get get gas stamps to gas station dudes. You even get achievements for how many gas stations you hit, but the game will not fail you traditionally with a game over screen. 4) You rob a jewelry store, run into some irish dudes and you get a huge ass wanted level. This mission is cool because it actually makes you wanted without a car and a long way from your house. Cops are brutal in this game and you wont survive if you don't know what you are doing. 5) You get contracted to kill this mofucka. After that you are promised that you are going to be inducted into the family for 5k. You say yes and go to be buy a fuckin mounted machine gun to blast the shit outta some guys. You then go into a distillery to kill a dude. You succeed but Henry gets shot so you gotta race cops to a doctors office. You deliver 2k to pay off your dads debt. 6) YOU GO TO FUCKIN PRISON FOR 10 YEARS CUZ OF THE SHIT YOU DID IN CHAPTER 3! THIS IS A CRIME GAME WHERE ONE OF THE MISSIONS ACTUALLY MAKES YOU BE IN PRISON. You beat some fucks up and gain the protection of a dude who works for a different family named leo galante. you kill the irish dude that you bumped into in chapter 4 wth a knife, and you serve the rest of your sentence in leo's cell. Oh and you get your sentence shortened. 7) You go to celebrate returning back home wht joe and his new bud eddie who works for a different family. You learn there is a body n the back of the car so you gotta go bury it. Shit gets nasty. 8) you go selling smokes until these greasers torch your truck. You then go to their hideout and kill all of them. TO pay for the truck you steal their cars and sell them to derrick. 9) You follow luca to a slaughter house to save these two dudes who work for your family. You save the dudes and they kill luca. You then get inducted into the family. 10) You sneak into a hotel that clemente's guys are hanging out in. You blow that shit up and kill clemente. One of joe's buds get's killed and so you gotta go get his ass from a bar where he shoots this dude out of grief and drunkenness. You gotta destroy the car and the body after taking joe home. 11) You help henry get a job for falcone by taking him to see eddie. They make a deal that henry gotta kill leo. SO you race to leo's house to try to stop henry and cut a deal that saves leo's life. either way you take leo to the airport and he dissapears. Henry get's the job. You go home to find your sister on the stairs crying. Her husband is partying and you go to stop his ass. When you get back you go to bed and are awakened by these homies who are irish. They torch your house. You go to joe's and he insists that you go kill the irish fucks. You do and that's that. 12) this chapter sucks. Seriously I hate it. Still unique in that you sell drugs with henry, despite the commission frowning on that shit. 13) Henry get's killed by some chinese fucks so you go and murder them. You find out henry is a fed and that you vouched for his ass. Everyone is pissed at you and joe now. 14) You gotta pay off a loan shark that you owe money from (you take out the loan in chapter 12). You do this by killing Angelo (the protagonist from the first game) and killing derrick for killing your daddy. You get the money, pay off the loan shark and that's it. 15) Leo scoops you up in his limo, yells at you for making a mess and says you gotta kill falcone to make shit better. You go to the observatory and kill falcone. Joe helps you do this, and you get into two separate cars to go celebrate. The cars separate and the credits fly. Mafia 3: You just go around and kill people to take over the city by blowing stuff up, interrogating people and that's it. Sometimes unique missions surface but they are too few and far in between. If mafia 3 got rid of this and replaced it with a focused set of missions that only advance the plot and that is it, it would be a fuckin masterpiece. Agree?
The game feels as if there is a lot of content cut from it. What are the point in those notes lying around all over the place? You read them, they allude to something going on and yet nothing happens regarding any of them. There appears to be no real purpose to picking up the bodies, the AI is so dumb they don't see bodies lying in front of them. The KKK stuff is pointless, there is no real reason for including any of it, as that one mission feels out of place with the rest of the game. I'm so gutted by this game. GTA V gives you better quality stuff for FREE, with GTA Online which is still not interesting enough for me to return to it, so imagine what Mafia III is like. I feel like they had a much different game in mind originally, that first few missions before you meet Donovan were EPIC, then it becomes a repetitive bore.

This game was like the Suicide Squad of AAA list games this year. Spent so much money on awesome actors and music, but rushed the hell out of the core premise of it. Joe said it himself, starts out strong, boring and lack of creativity in the later half. Arrgh
Why I hated suicide squad 1. Will smith played will smith 2. Harley Quinn played miss punch line 3. To many soundtracks. 4. Jai Courtney played tom hardy on a budget 5. The film seemed like it had a 30 percent opacity filter over everything 6. Unnatural dialogue 7. Jared Leto just acted very ecstatic and OVER acted his ass off. 8. Amanda Waller just turned extremely unlikeable. YES IK she is Ment to be like that but I was like "I hate her but she is a badass" but nope she is a dumbass and an idiot 9. Plot holes 10. Feels more like a group of friends who wanted to be superheroes for Halloween then anything. 11. Slipknot was an example character. That's it 12. David Ayer made Adam beach (snipknot) master ropes for this role. Can you believe that? The nerve on David Ayer is outstanding 13. Enchantress was the worst villain in all of existence. So one note, so ADHD... to much belly dancing... 14. A bomb ended that? Are you kidding me? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! 15. Feels like half the scenes are cut for some reason... like scenes feel unnatural
You can customize clothes from the wardrobe closet, cars customization and throwables with Burke, open gang warfare happens outside of your motel if you take a certain path, but I do agree with you on the repetitive story missions.
The story for this game is excellent, but the gameplay is meh and the missions are extremely repetitive, and the enemies are all the same. Not to mention the numerous bugs and glitches. I feel like the devs put more effort in the story and cutscenes than the gameplay.
I was waiting 6 fucking years for this game after I finish mafia ll which is one of my favourite games because of the great story. I was almost crying at the end of last chapter......but mafia lll is such a disappointment for me. I don't care about open world in games like mafia, most important thing is story characters not fucking length of gameplay which is actually bullshit because u have to repeat almost same thing over 30 times ;/

I think people (like AngryJoe) fell in love with the "honor bound" Mafioso (Vito Scaletta) as "the good guy". I think that this time, 2K took another route and showed the dishonorable, back-stabbing, self-serving Mafiosi (Marcano crime family), who got exactly what they had coming to them. I don't think that makes it any less of a Mafia game. The story is just told from a different perspective.

You made great points Joe and I felt the same when I started out,but after getting into the twist of the story I really enjoyed the game from then on,repetitiveness and all. I gave it a chance and the overall story was compelling enough to finish. Glad I stuck it out and ignored the bad reviews.

It starts kinda strong and then you get to these grinding missions and all that potential goes to waste.. no idea why most studios think this is interesting to us. Similar thing happened with Watch Dogs 2 - at some point you don't know which is side stuff and which is story, it all feels the same. I gave up real quick on both of them. I'm disappointed with Mafia 3 because initially I got quite invested in these characters.

The game should not have been open world especially for the district part or at the least do a stronghold style mission like Saints row

Yakuza 0 is an openworld action/adventure brawler with RPG elements set in 80s Japan. it's got an amazing story and soundtrack as well as tons of sidecontent and minigames all in two very interactive cities while the entire game is 60FPS. look up the Yakuza 0 E3 trailer for some gameplay

When i saw that wasnt gonna happen i got over it and hoped this new installment would be worth my money, after the 13th mission i uninstalled and just came to youtube to watch the cutscenes, cuz honestly i felt my playing just grinding the boring gameplay to get to the next cutscene. What a disgrace.

Nah if a person agrees with a reviewer in game tastes they do well to listen. I myself enjoyed Maffia 3 for me it wasnt wasted money but for others it might be. It is a very flawed game with a very strong setting and great story atleast in my oppinion. But it do suffer from its mission design, and its technical issues especially on PC but it seems to be consoles to. :)

I started playing this game and the story looks so interesting at the beginning. With the preacher talking about Lincoln and the music and everything. It feels great. But the gameplay isn't good. I like shooting with those old guns but it's not enough to make the game good. The game is called Mafia so I was expecting you being part of a family and doing organized crime shit but this is just a revenge story. I played a game about mafia years ago, I think it was Godfather. Not sure which one tho and your character was part of a family and you were fighting against other families. It feeled like a game about mafia. Mafia 3 just feels like a story about someone wanting revenge who go on a murder spree

*Recruiting - new members, kids to mafia, send members out on missions - etc
*Implications - Visit peoples graves, see people cry/shout at you, let their feelings be part of you
*Stock market - why not?
*Relaxing sports and hobbies - fishing, bathing, playgrounds, tennis, golf, pool, goto movies, visit cafe's , visit dealers,
*Decorating - House, cars, private casinos, decorate hotels and restaurant? Mafia owned all of a City back in the days, right?

I remember playing Godfather II on the Xbox 360 years ago and that game had you roughing up the underboss if you want to get their racket with the highest cash and make it a part of yours and if you rough him up too much, you'd lose so much cash and the racket itself. Did I mention you could customize you're character and the 3 people you enlisted to your party, as well as the mafia you control?

Those senate hearings IMO were really strong because they made the story feel more important, like one man really did tear an entire mafia apart and terrorized an American city doing so.

Call me crazy, but not having Beatles songs in your game in the 60's seems like a massive oversight, especially when the radio has 100 tracks from other great artists from that time period.

I agree. A lot of them are becoming more and more hollow. Or, they're good, but littered with micro-transactions. But mostly, they feel incomplete or empty. Take Xcom 2 for example. I loved it, but after so many hours, I realized that the game only really had a hand-full of stages/missions to play through. It got repetitive in a bad-way. All games are repetitive, but lately they feel empty and have a monotonous kind of repetitive.
Almost 8 years later and the game is so incredibly broken.
I’m fighting with the game just to finish the story! I’ve had crazy FPS drops, cutscenes that went dark or had no audio, I even had a save file glitch out near the end (thank god I could go in the ps4 settings and delete a recent save). And the most annoying bug of all, after collecting about 70% of the collectibles, I loaded up my game again and ALL of them were returned to where I picked them up and my progression was reset to 0. 8 YEARS LATER. Ridiculous!

Honestly glad Joe stuck to the roots of what is wrong with this game rather then just bitching about graphics and FPS for the entire review. Why Mafia 3 just didn't stick to its original design is beyond me, Mafia 2 was a superb game as its story telling and unique dynamic missions were perfect, yet Mafia 3 tries to imitates GTA's world with a mix of Ubisoft style objectives.

This game should be called Taxi Driver the game because the main character you control: Lincoln Clay is a complete rip of Scorecse's Travis Bickle. Think about it; both characters are Vietnam vets suffering from pts, they both wear the same army jackets they both are psychotic murders from the brain dead mission design. It all adds up. Lincoln Clays a black version of Travis Bickle.

Well, Mafia II wasn't about "Mafias"... It was about a nobody that get into the Italian Mafia and keeps being a nobody... If you want to play as the OG Mafia, then go play Godfather I: The videogame. TLDR: It's a "meh...".

But at least Mafia 2 still had the feeling of you being within a deep rooted crime syndicate which it demonstrated with its gameplay (Paying off cops when you get pulled over for speeding, gangsters pullin out their weapons and threatening you if you decide to pull out yours first, etc.) And its story. You cared for Vito and his family, and for the guys Vito ran with. Our main man Joe, Henry, Clemente, and the list goes on. So you really cared when something developed within the story.
And in Mafia 2, you felt like you were truly within some kind of grimy, seedy, untrustworthy underworld. In Mafia 3, you are the Black Punisher. You can't identify with Clay at all really, and you don't really care for the other side characters. It keeps trying to switch between a shooter, and a story driven experience.
However, I will say Mafia 3 absolutely destroys Mafia 2 in terms of what you can do within the world regarding activities. And Mafia 3 is sorta equal to 2 in terms of gunplay. Even though 3 has some issues regarding AI in gunfights. It's still a very fun game tho.
And one final note, I will have to disagree with you about Mafia 2 not being about the Mafias and the families. Mafia 2 very much focused on the different families and how they worked and while they took some liberties with hiw families took newcomers in, it still was way more satisfying and easy to understand than Mafia 3's story.
The whole point of the game is getting revenge against the Don of the Marcano family who's supposed to be loosely based on the Godfather himself. It's not like the title is completely irrelevant. I see what you're saying but if you buy a game just because of a word in the title and assume you know what the games about than you'll be disappointed really really often.

Looked like a good game at the beginning, but as the story goes on, it’s just a bunch of the same shit. My roommate at the time was hyping it up so I was kind of excited, but really disappointed once I played it. And you said it best Joe; after a strong opening, it gets so repetitive, I stopped caring so I stopped playing. The soundtrack was fire though. Hendrix, the stones, James brown, etc. soundtrack gets a 10/10, game itself I give a 3/10. Good breakdown of the game though Joe. Love your videos.

No, this is to be expected in an open world game (at least I think so). It's just that they shot themselves in the foot by not including customization, it was a step in the wrong direction.

hey guys i recommend Yakuza 0, it's an openworld action/adventure brawler with RPG elements set in 80s Japan. it's got an amazing story and soundtrack as well as tons of sidecontent and minigames all in to very interactive cities while the entire game is in 60FPS. look up the Yakuza 0 E3 trailer for some gameplay

Mafia 2 was never repetitive. You did different things in every mission. Sure, the methods were more or less the same, but at least the game wasn't making you grind for shit.
Shit you do in mafia 2 by chapter:
1) Fight in world war 2.
2) Take a ride in joe's car, learn some shit about the world, get introduced to vito's family, set up a minor conflict (vito has to pay off his family's debt). Drive joe's car to guiseppe to get discharged. Get a car of your own and pimp the shit outta it. Go to bruskis and become contracted to steal a car. Steal the car from thugs that try to kill you, bring it back after a wild police chase and get paid 500 for it, where joe takes 300. Go home
3) Talk to derrick to get gainful employment as you made a promise to vito's mom. You go there, realize it's back breaking work and throw a fit. They realize you work for joe, verify it and make you go around beating up dockworkers to get money. Then you go to a bar, meet henry and luca and are contracted to rob a fucking government building for gas stamps. You do that and realize that the gas stamps expire at midnight, so now you gotta drive like hell to get get gas stamps to gas station dudes. You even get achievements for how many gas stations you hit, but the game will not fail you traditionally with a game over screen.
4) You rob a jewelry store, run into some irish dudes and you get a huge ass wanted level. This mission is cool because it actually makes you wanted without a car and a long way from your house. Cops are brutal in this game and you wont survive if you don't know what you are doing.
5) You get contracted to kill this mofucka. After that you are promised that you are going to be inducted into the family for 5k. You say yes and go to be buy a fuckin mounted machine gun to blast the shit outta some guys. You then go into a distillery to kill a dude. You succeed but Henry gets shot so you gotta race cops to a doctors office. You deliver 2k to pay off your dads debt.
6) YOU GO TO FUCKIN PRISON FOR 10 YEARS CUZ OF THE SHIT YOU DID IN CHAPTER 3! THIS IS A CRIME GAME WHERE ONE OF THE MISSIONS ACTUALLY MAKES YOU BE IN PRISON. You beat some fucks up and gain the protection of a dude who works for a different family named leo galante. you kill the irish dude that you bumped into in chapter 4 wth a knife, and you serve the rest of your sentence in leo's cell. Oh and you get your sentence shortened.
7) You go to celebrate returning back home wht joe and his new bud eddie who works for a different family. You learn there is a body n the back of the car so you gotta go bury it. Shit gets nasty.
8) you go selling smokes until these greasers torch your truck. You then go to their hideout and kill all of them. TO pay for the truck you steal their cars and sell them to derrick.
9) You follow luca to a slaughter house to save these two dudes who work for your family. You save the dudes and they kill luca. You then get inducted into the family.
10) You sneak into a hotel that clemente's guys are hanging out in. You blow that shit up and kill clemente. One of joe's buds get's killed and so you gotta go get his ass from a bar where he shoots this dude out of grief and drunkenness. You gotta destroy the car and the body after taking joe home.
11) You help henry get a job for falcone by taking him to see eddie. They make a deal that henry gotta kill leo. SO you race to leo's house to try to stop henry and cut a deal that saves leo's life. either way you take leo to the airport and he dissapears. Henry get's the job. You go home to find your sister on the stairs crying. Her husband is partying and you go to stop his ass. When you get back you go to bed and are awakened by these homies who are irish. They torch your house. You go to joe's and he insists that you go kill the irish fucks. You do and that's that.
12) this chapter sucks. Seriously I hate it. Still unique in that you sell drugs with henry, despite the commission frowning on that shit.
13) Henry get's killed by some chinese fucks so you go and murder them. You find out henry is a fed and that you vouched for his ass. Everyone is pissed at you and joe now.
14) You gotta pay off a loan shark that you owe money from (you take out the loan in chapter 12). You do this by killing Angelo (the protagonist from the first game) and killing derrick for killing your daddy. You get the money, pay off the loan shark and that's it.
15) Leo scoops you up in his limo, yells at you for making a mess and says you gotta kill falcone to make shit better. You go to the observatory and kill falcone. Joe helps you do this, and you get into two separate cars to go celebrate. The cars separate and the credits fly.
Mafia 3:
You just go around and kill people to take over the city by blowing stuff up, interrogating people and that's it. Sometimes unique missions surface but they are too few and far in between. If mafia 3 got rid of this and replaced it with a focused set of missions that only advance the plot and that is it, it would be a fuckin masterpiece. Agree?

The game feels as if there is a lot of content cut from it. What are the point in those notes lying around all over the place? You read them, they allude to something going on and yet nothing happens regarding any of them.
There appears to be no real purpose to picking up the bodies, the AI is so dumb they don't see bodies lying in front of them.
The KKK stuff is pointless, there is no real reason for including any of it, as that one mission feels out of place with the rest of the game.
I'm so gutted by this game. GTA V gives you better quality stuff for FREE, with GTA Online which is still not interesting enough for me to return to it, so imagine what Mafia III is like.
I feel like they had a much different game in mind originally, that first few missions before you meet Donovan were EPIC, then it becomes a repetitive bore.

This game was like the Suicide Squad of AAA list games this year. Spent so much money on awesome actors and music, but rushed the hell out of the core premise of it. Joe said it himself, starts out strong, boring and lack of creativity in the later half. Arrgh

You can customize clothes from the wardrobe closet, cars customization and throwables with Burke, open gang warfare happens outside of your motel if you take a certain path, but I do agree with you on the repetitive story missions.
The story for this game is excellent, but the gameplay is meh and the missions are extremely repetitive, and the enemies are all the same. Not to mention the numerous bugs and glitches. I feel like the devs put more effort in the story and cutscenes than the gameplay.
Funny thing is, 2k Czech, who made Mafia 1 (Illusion Softworks then) and Mafia 2 made the cutscenes for Mafia 3 lol

Rockstar Skinnys Witcher 3 is one of the best games I've ever played, easily the best game of last year, yes you should play it.
The cutscenes are good as hell. The intro is so great and has you on edge. Then it lets you down so much until near the end.

I think people (like AngryJoe) fell in love with the "honor bound" Mafioso (Vito Scaletta) as "the good guy". I think that this time, 2K took another route and showed the dishonorable, back-stabbing, self-serving Mafiosi (Marcano crime family), who got exactly what they had coming to them. I don't think that makes it any less of a Mafia game. The story is just told from a different perspective.

You made great points Joe and I felt the same when I started out,but after getting into the twist of the story I really enjoyed the game from then on,repetitiveness and all. I gave it a chance and the overall story was compelling enough to finish.
Glad I stuck it out and ignored the bad reviews.
