    Correction: I was wrong about regenerative braking, and many of the comments have corrected me, so see those below for an understanding on the regenerative braking process. Cheers! :)

    regenerative braking : no nothing to do with heat. It uses electric motors which become generators of electricity when driven - by you moving forward. So regenerative braking is just the electric motors working in reverse as generators.

      @@tylersomerville6345teslas only use the brakes when u use the brake pedal. You only use it when the regen brake isnt enough such as panic stops but once u get used to one pedal driving, you use the brake pedal maybe 1% of the time hence why they last 2-300k miles before needing to change.. ridiculous, in a good way

    Regen braking doesn’t use the brakes, but rather the electric motors to slow the car down and put power back into the battery. Your actual brakes can be used to slow down quicker if needed, or in emergencies but they should last the lifetime of the car as they are used very infrequently now. You can do most of a trip without using traditional brakes at all. Takes some getting used to and you do need to practice to know when to lift off the accelerator to let the regen bring the car to a complete stop all on its own.

      @@nikolaiiaksenov Hi Nikolai, I need an opinion of yours. I just ordered the long range and I still have the chance to change my order to performance version. Have you drive the performance version ? Is it worth to upgrade in your eyes ?
      Also how does the Tesla compares to Veloster N in terms of cornering ?

    • @nikolaiiaksenov
      @nikolaiiaksenov  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@diyarpolat9823 I’ve driven a Model Y performance (review coming soon). It depends on what you want. If you want all the performance you can get, go for it. But in reality, the long range (and even base model) is already plenty quick. If you are just daily driving, it’s way more than you will ever need anyways. Up to you! Hope this helps!

    • @nikolaiiaksenov
      @nikolaiiaksenov  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@diyarpolat9823 veloster N can be tossed around and is more playful, but the Tesla due to its low battery location also handles well. Veloster N was tuned for sport, so it’s going to handle like that. Tesla was tuned for comfort, so it will handle like that. Simply in the nature of its chassis setup, it will handle well. To each their own.

    I just got a used 2021 Model 3 and for the first time I tried pushing the accelerator past half way and I couldn't believe it just kept pulling and pulling harder.
    I think that's the biggest difference between gas and a Tesla. It doesn't seem to have a cut off point where the acceleration stops or is as immediate.

  • @slowcheetah24
    @slowcheetah24 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Great review Nikolai. On top of the great performance and value which you covered in detail, the environmental advantage of an EV vs ICE cannot be overlooked. I know we car people love our ICE engines but unfortunately the planet cannot sustain the continue use of petrol. Cheers.

    • @nikolaiiaksenov
      @nikolaiiaksenov  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! I agree, there is still a love for ICE, but we need to transition to EV

    • @init100
      @init100 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      One nice thing about Teslas is that they are good enough that you don't need to be an environmentalist to want one. It's the cheapest way to get that kind of performance in a car, and it can hold your family too.
      For many EVs, at least previously, you have to forego a lot of features that are common in ICE cars, just to get an environmentally friendly car.
      With Teslas, you have a car that can compete with or even surpass traditional cars in most aspects except range.

  • @Balo1997
    @Balo1997 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice video, but it does not use the heat of the brakes, it uses the electric motor as a generator to slow down the car and charge the battery. Motors can be used as a generator or a motor depending if it is accelerating or decelerating.

  • @init100
    @init100 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The reason why you are not used to ICE cars having a lot of engine brake is probably because you are in the United States, where most cars have automatic transmission. With a manual transmission, you get a more pronounced engine brake. The reason is that automatic transmissions use a hydraulic torque converter instead of the clutch, so the engine brake when you let off the gas doesn't impact the wheels as much as it would if you had a manual transmission with a clutch instead.

    I have one right now as a long-term rental. My daily is a 6speed manual 2015 Mustang GT Performance Pack. The Tesla is very quick but a boring experience compared to the visceral experience I get in the Stang. Also, in the current 110+ degree Arizona heat the battery efficiency is awful with the AC on. I’m not joking when I say I am losing 1 mile of range every 30 or so seconds. I drove 15 actual miles today and the range dropped from 122 to 66. The first time I charged the car it happened to be at an upscale Supercharger location, and the one closest to my house, and it cost me $1 per 10 miles of charge. That being said, I could see having one as a daily, but I could never give up 3 pedals and a roaring V8.
