    Very good review. I just want to mention that the voice command capability is something I use frequently. For instance you can control temperature and wiper speeds from commands. I arbitrary try commands and I am surprised they work. Sometimes it will respond command not available "yet." I am waiting on a command to tilt the side mirrors down, possible 20 degrees IE, when doing night driving with out having to use the screen to adjust mirrors every time for day versus night. Side mirror adjustments come up as not available "yet."

    "The only difference between this (the SR+) and the more expensive models comes with battery, speed and some small interior differences like rear heated seats"
    Erm... nope.
    You get an extra electric motor and AWD in the Long Range and Performance, not just a bigger battery pack and better top speed, you also get better range. I mean I understand we all buy the cars we can afford and the SR+ is a great EV, but let's not kid ourselves and forget why they are way cheaper, it's got 1 motor while the others have 2, it kinda matters.

    The heating controls on my Tesla are BY FAR the worst of any car I have ever owned. It sucks horribly. The autopilot is also a joke... albeit a very dangerous one.

      Of course. The range is based on a set test (WLTP) and depends heavily on a variety of factors.

    We’ve been driving the SR+ for just under two years…very capable, and underrated car. With the supercharger network, and the car’s fierce efficiency, their are no range issues, despite it being a small battery.
    For lights, wipers, heating, music etc, we use the right scroll wheel to activate the mic, and tell it what to do…and never touch the screen while driving.
    Glad you’re enjoying yours.

    I have the M3 SR+ also, and I if I were to do it over again I would have gotten the Long Range. While I only do long road trips once in a while, I would like to have those extra miles that I could go before needing to supercharge. The Long Range could also take advantage of the 250kw chargers and charge faster. The SR+ doesn't really charge faster on those.
    While that's not really all that big a deal, I do kind of wish I had the full premium sound system that comes with the Long Range.

    Great review! I used your Tesla referral link before buying my Model Y a few months ago because of your thorough reviews. As far as road-tripping... I've been traveling all over the Western side of the US the last couple months in my Model Y camping and it's been great. One has to realize that currently if you want to charge from let's say 20% - 100% it will take 45 minutes (charging slows as it gets higher) at a Supercharger which is a bummer on road trips compared to gas cars, but that's such a small amount of times you'd do that. I usually find myself stopping for 20 minutes on average and charge to about 85% which will easily get you to the next Supercharger. As long as you keep it under 85% than it's not much worse than a gas car with a to go order and bathroom break. Most people will just use it around town and to/from work so that's easily covered by home charging. I just use my dryer outlet (Tesla 14-30 adapter) which is 30AMP and it charges plenty fast at 21 miles per hour so an overnight charge does the trick. Thanks again for the thorough reviews :)

    Excellent review!
    I would only argue that there's more value in the long range model upgrade than you imply. It's faster, has significantly more range, is all wheel drive, now has a heated steering wheel as well as rear seats, better sound, and speed upgrade option. The added range makes a big difference if your keeping the charge between 20-80% and don't always have perfect EPA rating driving conditions (heat, cold, highway speeds). You can also charge more miles at a higher speed.

      I had the same thoughts, originally was going to order the SR with FSD then I changed my mind on the FSD and decided to get the LR 3.. The sound system and the miles was what finally convinced me. Great! sound.. oh yeah and the AWD really helped out while on my road trip up North.

      @@sergioalvarez193 Good call! The extra range also gives you more leeway for preconditioning the car and sentry mode. Also in the long run, the car will still have plenty of range with 10 to 20% degradation

      @My2JZandMe 3 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @ElroyMcDuff
    @ElroyMcDuff 3 ปีที่แล้ว +20

    Great review, thanks! My experience has been mostly the same.
    Living in the southeast, the main thing I thought I'd miss coming from a car that had them was ventilated seats. However, since you can pre-cool the interior and air can blow directly on the seats, not a problem!
    Another great thing about the climate control is that you can make it stay on while you run into the store or whatever. It will reset after you get back in the car so if you run into another store you'll need to do it again. These vehicles would be HUGE for all those lazy people that sit in the car with the engine & AC running while their spouse does the shopping. There is also a dog mode that will keep it comfy for your pooch and notify people outside what the temp is inside the car. (so they don't smash your windows!)
    My windshield wipers are a little quirky also, sometimes they think it's raining harder than it really is and I have to slow them down. Other than that they work ok. It might be because I used a water repellent cleaner on the windshield and I read afterward that you shouldn't use that stuff if you have auto wipers.

      Lots of car manufacturers now include physical equipment but don't enable it depending on what level you bought. Don't forget you're not just paying for the physical car, you're also paying for the truly astronomical amount of R&D they had to do to make it possible to build the car.

  • @trbizwiz1
    @trbizwiz1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +17

    I am guessing that unless you really desire the FSD features, spending that same $10k on Tesla stock will out return the investment of FSD.
    If FSD ends up working on Tesla Semi, and is allowed to be largely adopted, Tesla will disrupt and transform the entire global logistics industry. That is so much bigger than being a car, tech, or energy company. If it happens, even at today’s share prices, a modest investment could make you a millionaire.
    We could be a decade away from this, but you can see Tesla shooting for it.

      The back sears are way too low and don't support your thighs if you are a tall person.
      Therefore your legs are at unusual angle.
      On top of all that, there is hardly any space under the front seats for the back passengers to put their feet, even if they are set all the way up !

    If the rattle near the passenger door is coming from the B pillar, it’s very likely from the shoulder belt height adjustment mechanism. The metal part that slides up and down has a hard plastic attachment that can be slightly loose and rattle against each other. Putting felt or foam tape in there is an easy fix for you or the mobile service rep.

    I really want auto pilot to stop hugging the outside lane on turns. Maybe you can post a little more about this so it can get traction and maybe they can adjust the way auto pilot stairs. I understand somebody in the team probably thinks it’s a safer idea to start on the outside of the lane and pull into the lane more When necessary, but I think we will need to have cars drive like people are taught in drivers education.

      I really want autopilot to not hug the inside/center on a 2 lane highway. That’s the most frustrating part of autopilot for me. Its not safe to be that close to oncoming traffic, so I don’t use it on those roads.

    • @bryanhauer
      @bryanhauer 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't get me started on how it handles passing an on-ramp. Seems to want to center even though the right line is way off to the right when passing an on-ramp. Corrects itself as you pass it and the right line comes back in, but seems like a bug cause what if there were cars over there? I see most state DOT's have started putting hashed lines on the off-ramp, but they need to do it on the on-ramp as well or Tesla needs to fix this and the hugging issue you referenced.

    Hey, Ryan, do you have a video describing your thoughts about driving the Y compared to your newer 3? (I wonder if the extra 370 parts in the 3 contribute to the noises you hear.) ... small correction: key fob price boosted to $175 (better price than a Mercedes fob for $500, though)

  • @ryanturner8922

    I’ll be honest, I don’t see the lower end model Tesla’s being considered luxury. The base model is $40,000. Which is about average for a decent car. Now if you paid more than $80,000 then I be more concerned about Little inconveniences like rattling and parts being misaligned.

    tesla will be great in 5-10 years, when EVs will have more autonomy and when superchargers will be as common as gas stations ( and all new houses will have charging station) in NON 3rd world country...but in terms of air pollution it will not improve that much,unfortunately india,latin america and other big countries are still too much arretrate to use EVs and those are the countries that pollute the air the most)

    Great review video! I'm considering the model 3 or the Y, but I'm hesitant regarding the new batteries. I have a feeling that as soon as I buy a tesla, the new 4680 battery will release and I'll have instant regret that I didn't wait. However, what are the possibilities of the 4680s raising the price on teslas? How impactful will the 4680s likely be on the older batteries?

    Took delivery of my 2021 Long Range Model 3 in March, (former competitive driver and classic 911 owner). In addition to daily driving, completed a 5,675 Road Trip (VA-MT-VA). By far, the best overall designed car I've ever driven. Ryan provided an outstandingly accurate review. Performance is "over-the-top". It depends! If you find yourself utilizing cargo space a lot, and usually all 5 seats, I’d go Model Y. Model 3 is more fun to drive for me, and a smoother ride as far as suspension, but it’s lower to the ground, so a bit less comfy on longer drives.
