Our Grandma’s Italian Sunday Gravy - Made with Love

- Sunday Gravy, our ultimate comfort food! Our Grandma’s Italian Sunday gravy recipe was passed down to our mother, and now us, since we love to cook so much. Our Sunday sauce is made with beef Braciole, Mild Italian Sausage, Pork Ribs, and our homemade Meatballs inside. Braciole is a tenderized eye-round beef roll, seasoned with Italian spices, such as fresh garlic, parmesan cheese, parsley, salt, and pepper, and then tied up to keep in place. The braised meats add that traditional flavor to the Sunday sauce, that will melt in your mouth.
This delicious Italian feast is fit for a king! The process of putting together this Italian stable is well worth the time. You can use any type of pasta with this gravy, and it goes great with a nice salad and Italian bread.
Be sure to keep the family at bay while the sauce is cooking. The aroma will drive them crazy while waiting to eat!

I'm a black guy from Brooklyn who grew up with an Italian neighbor. She was like a mother to me. She's been gone now over 30' years and I still visit her grave at least six/seven times a year. (Her son, who is buried with her, became the adopted little brother that I never had, died on 911, while serving the NYC Fire Department). She made everything fresh. In fact she had family out in Stony Brook, Long Island who made their own pasta, which they called macaroni and noodles. Her Sunday gravy was the same method as your'e presenting. I assume they're very close recipes. She made the best food I've ever had and I've traveled the world. Gravy is all about the subtle seasons and the process. I have family in the south and I refuse to eat their "Italian" food because it has such little connection to the authenticity that you present.
Thank you for sharing your story. Hearts out to your brother. Yeah, it’s hard to find good time food down here in the south.
Thank you brother
Nice memories! Thanks for sharing..
Look at me I'm a black guy
I’m a white guy and I read your comment with confusion.
Love that you use the right name GRAVY!
I love these brothers. I do miss there lovely mother tasting the food at the end. Thank you guys!
Thank you too!

Sunday gravy was the smell in our house every Sunday my mom would start it and while we went to 12 noon mass it was simmering for 2 hrs ...

Very true! Well said!
This is the kind of cooking that leaves your house smelling great for a long time. Brilliant!
Memories of the old New York unfortunately New York is not like this anymore I went last January all the Italian places are gone It's quickly becoming Chinatown & Middle Eastern town the whole City even Lenny's pizzeria closed you guys keep up the good work keep Italian food alive
I know, Little Italy is definitely not the same.
@@BrooklynBrothersCooking I appreciate you guys's work greatly i wish some you guys will come to the West Coast they need to get rescued Italian food is trash on the west Coast right now only in San Diego and San Francisco is somewhat decent Italian food but not like back east
nothing beats a Sunday Gravy!
im gonna be 48, i remember going to visit my grandparents in early 80s............1980, 81 in Canarsie brooklyn, with Abbott and Costello on channel 11 watching them make sauce lol
How cool is that! We watched About and Castillo every Sunday as well, waiting to eat.
Lmao
I grew up in Canarsie 60's -70's to early 80's. We all watched Abbott and Costello. LOL
@franheefner7490 it was an Italian thing I guess 🤷
I love meatballs cooked in the gravy. That’s the way my grandmother made it! so good.
Gravy yes! That's what we called it in the Italian neighborhood I lived in just outside of Chicago...Melrose Park...I miss my husband's grandmother's gravy it was the best! And so were her meatballs I've tried for years to duplicate them but not the same.
That’s awesome! Thanks for sharing your story! Merry Christmas!
Every Sunday, 2pm! It's tradition ...
💯👌🍝🍷❤
I'm an Irish guy who grew up on a Steet that had 20 houses on it. 18 of them Italians. And as a kidI ate in each and everyone of them. but learned a lot from Old John Ippoliti, he made the Sunday Gravy. and it was the same ingredients as you made here. and he made his own pasta's. I used to help him make them. and Gnocchi's, and helped him crush grapes to make his wine. each year. he was like my own Grandfather. God I miss him gone since 76. but still missed. God Speed John!
Thanks for sharing your story! The good old days
I am Italian and learned how to cook like this from my grandmother. She and my grandfather came over from Italy.
That’s great! Appreciate you sharing your story!
Sunday gravy, the pork, the beef, the sausage, meatballs, olive oil, tomato paste, garlic, oregano, onions, basil, salt, sugar... plum tomatoes. The fragrance filling the home!
Amen brother!
joeyboom bots
so u call the sunday sauce 'gravy' ?? And what do u put on roast turkey sauce ????
But, if you drink from the bottle, that is spitting in the sauce. Not cool.
I LOVE YOU GUYS... YOUR RECIPES ARE THE BEST! THANK YOU FOR SHOWING ALL OF US HOW TO MAKE THE BEST FOOD EVER. GOD BLESS YOUS GUYS.
Our pleasure! Thanks so much
That pot has definitely seen some love. 👨🍳 ❤
Yes it does!
As a Pollack I never felt so ashamed!! You guys know what you’re doing!!!! Made sauce for canning with my old Italian neighbor. Pork bones. Salt n pepper. Oil. Basil. Canned that as base sauce!!! So good!!
That is awesome! Thanks for sharing your story! Merry Christmas!
I stuff my braciole differently. Guess it depends on what part of Italy.
Love that you say "gravy" I have always called it gravy, that's how I was brought up, these days though when I say gravy, some think I'm talking about brown gravy, so, depending on who I'm talking too, I say sauce, 🤣🤣gravy looks delicious!!!
Love that!
Omg I miss my mother making this, like he said it melts in your mouth so good😋 she would put pig skin in her sauce along with the sausage and meatballs. Doesn’t get any better. Italian food always the best🇮🇹
Our grandmother put pig skin in the gravy as well. Good old days!
I love pig skin
My grandmother always put raisins in it then braised it and put it in the sauce. Delicious
Yes, I’ve had it with raisins as well. It is delicious!
I went to Syracuse University back in the day and for a WASP kid from Colorado, all the local Italian families (mostly of Sicilian descent) and their Sunday dinners were a revelation. Spaghetti sauce was ‘gravy.’ Pasta was ‘macaroni.’ And the manicotti was the stuff of legend. Oh, and I still remember the clams casino. Great video. Thanks for letting us visit your kitchen!
Thanks Charles! Happy to hear you enjoyed the video!
Thank you so much for watching
My Sunday Gravy looks the same!
I love the way you make your Braciole. My mother in law taught me how to make her Braciole the same way except she would put a little crushed red pepper in the Braciole. Nice and spicey!!!! Yummy 😋
We love spicy also. Need to try the pepper
yum is right
Love this! I will be trying it, I think I can fill in the gaps as I'm not Italian, but this week I'll feel like one! Thanks!
Our pleasure!
The only way to do this. The flavor imparted by all that meat is incredible. Keep it going guys.
Thank you! Will do!
"What a work of art!"
Looks Amazing - Have a great week
Ohh Heaven...!!!!!
Oh my, those cutlets and the gravy!!😮
Drooling a river here!
Exactly how my grandmother taught me.
A bunch of mouth breathers over there😍
Looks like the best Dish I have seen... Beautiful Smile!
Wow, thank you
YO IM TOTALLY GONNA DO IT THIS WAY..THIS IS AWESOME
Marianacci's Restaurant in Port Chester N.Y. has great Bracioles on the menu when your lucky enough to find them.
They do! 😋
It's a little off the beaten path (I used to live on the corner of Grant & Inwood)
I CAN NOT WAIT TO MAKE THIS for the first time. 😂❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Please let us know how it turns out. Have a great day!
I love that giant rigatoni, and that friggin’ big pot is awesome!
I could smell the deliciousness 😂
With a little variation I make the same as you. Which my mother made and her mother too. Now it is a staple when my kids are home. Hope I have passed on the tradition to them.
We’re sure you have 😊
Love your videos
This one was like a hug from 30 yrs ago❤️ It will always be Gravy to me❤️
Thank you, Andrea! We are glad you are enjoying the videos.
Big guys with a passion for authentic cooking.. Awesome!
Thanks for watching Doug!
Love you guys! This is my personal TH-cam to show off my edits! I might have to record myself trying to make one of these dishes! I can’t wait! Miss y’all!

This is pretty much how my nonna taught me to make gravy (Salsa alla Domenica) except we scoop the excess fat off the top while it simmers. Also, we'd use a pork butt or shoulder roast and cut slits in the meat and stuff slivers of garlic into the pork roast. Magnifico!
Pork butt or shoulder sounds awesome. We’ll need to try that. Thanks for watching!
its not gravy .Its sauce or ragu as we grew up in our home
Parents were from Bari
Sicilian called it bista an sugu. My family anyways. Still looks tasty.
Amazing. I don't see too many people doing there gravy's like this. My mother in law does it similar but with only pork and meatballs and pepperoni. paste and water is included but it sure reminds me of it.
Just came across your video today looking for a braciola recipe. Love both of your energies and the homey feeling you give while cooking. Awesome video, thanks guys!
Glad you found us! Welcome to our family!
OMG....Reminds me of my childhood Every Sunday....Can I Move In With You Guys!...LOL
Just love this family and the fabulous foods! Being a southern gal this cuisine is all new to me. And BTW, my hubby was in heaven with the plate of food!
Thanks Tammy! Glad you enjoyed it! Plan on meeting you both soon!
Looks Amazing! I think I'm going to make this for my daughters graduation next month. I'm sure it'll be a hit. Thanks guys!
Yummy 😋
Really like how you put all the fresh basil in with the onions & garlic. Am definitely going to be doing the same way
I will be making this
Great! You will love it 😍
You guys are great , looking forward to trying this recipe I grew up on Long Island with lots of Italian friends and had authentic food always . . Not sure if you already do it but a blog would be great .
We appreciate the support! We’re currently looking into doing a blog
Absolutely best tomatoes anywhere, Stanislaus from California.
I have to try this probably this sunday very detailed and seems deliciously. Thank you❤
Hope you enjoy!
The food and recipe are wonderful. But the best part of the video is the enthusiasm.
Thank you!!!
Absolutely reminds me of our Grandma's sauce when we were still growing up. She had a Huge stock pot just like that one you guys are using. I remember her rolling up the meatballs the night before. The whole house smelled so good. F.B.I. - Full Blood Italian!
The good old days
You put
Meats in the gravy
I'm from south philly and moved to Maine so I totally understand what you guys...when I make gravy no one can believe they are eating lol
Looks super delicious 😋
Thanks Raul!
Definitely gonna make it like this!! Looks so delicious!!
Thank you!
Fellas….. that looks so good… my mouth is watering…
Thanks!
I love this for so many reasons!! My Sicilian Momma made Braciole and homemade sauce all my childhood! I have been making my own sauce for years now but I have never made my own Braciole! Well I have to do something about that Right!!? My good friend recommended I look you two up and I’m so glad I did! She made your Shrimp parm recipe it looked delicious 😋 I will continue to follow your recipes! Who knows we may even be distant relatives 🇮🇹😋💗😘👍
how this video doesn't have 84 million likes I'll never know
Thanks James! Hopefully one day, TH-cam’s Algorithms will give us more exposure.
I’m going to make this the next time my family gets together. We are not Italian, but we grew up in a town with lots of Sicilians and Italians, so this style of cooking feels like home.
Thanks for sharing!

It’s a beautiful thing 🥰🥰
Thank you so much Keely
Yummy !
Awesome recipe, thanks for sharing
Thanks Christeen!
This is true authentic Italian cuisine.
My maternal side of the family hailed from Via Passeira just feet away from the Dolomites and this is how they cooked except they used lamb. I prefer pork.
Great job guys! You're the best!@
Thanks buddy
I would add tripe. Not popular in America but people in Italy like it.
This looks so good that I bought all the ingredients today and I'm going to make it tomorrow on Sunday.
That’s great! Let us know how it turns out.
This looks great. My grandmother cooked a big pot of gravy just like this every sunday, rigatoni and all. She cooked for 15 people every weekend for us and our cousins. Only thing different is she used pork chops instead of ribs, but now that I see it I'm gonna have to try ribs sometimes, I bet all that extra fat makes the gravy real tasty.
Thanks Tim! We remember them days. On occasion, we use chops as well, but you have to try the ribs. They are real moist.
Get the country style ribs to use.
Omg! I am soooo trying this!
My Grandmother did this as well, except we used pork shank. Beautiful work guys.
That looks fantastic!
Thanks Jason!
I pride myself on my sauce but I definitely just learned from you guys. I never put ribs in my sauce but it makes all the sense in the world. Thanks!
Hope you enjoy!
Beautiful you guys..
Will be trying this very soon.
Let us know how it turns out.
Gonna make this for Sunday dinner tonight ! Thanks guys
Great! Let us know how it turns out.
YOUR MY KIND OF PEOPLE!!🥰
THATS HOW I DO SAUCE
We had all this tonight's dinner. Plus salad and fresh motzarella and raviolis.......
Good stuff!
I am a Brooklyn boy , Bensonhurst to be exact .. And I love Sunday sauce
Great! Another Brother!
Looks so good!! My mother always put pepperoni and hard boiled eggs in her braciole. Love the Italian good!!!
Thank you 😊🇮🇹
I was the onky kid in elementary school with a sausage and pepper sandwich in my lunchbox.
Gotta love it! 🇮🇹
No you weren't.
You guys make me want to cook
Lmao!
I miss my Italian side of the family they've been gone for many years now.. Thank you for this video
Thanks for watching! Enjoy your evening.
Your welcome
I was hoping to see that pasta after it was cooked with sauce on it...looks delicious.
Thank you!
Your a very good cook that's how my Dad's made his Italian sauce too my dad was a butcher god bless him i miss my Dad! RiP
Thank you!
Buddy the Little…we put the egg in too. My aunt used put in some diced up salami and provolone too. She’d ask the deli to cut a couple of slices really thick and then dice them up. I loved it, but then I love salami and provolone ….God help me, that salami is so bad for you….lol! 🤣😂😅
Thanks for the great video! I’ve been making my gravy since I got married when I was 16. We won’t say how long we are married, okay? 🤫 Let’s just say a very long time. 🥰 But I love seeing how other people do it, especially when it’s a recipe handed down. I have 14 grandchildren,, only my oldest granddaughter wants to learn. She just gotta remember…ABSOLUTELY NO CHANGES!! By the way, we are from Brooklyn too…Greenpoint/Williamsburg area. I lived in the same apartment my whole life growing up. When I got married, we moved into the apartment right underneath my mother and father. My husband begged me to move to California, he was stationed there in the Navy. I right away
Told him Don’t ever ask me to leave Brooklyn! And look at me now I’m in Florida and hate it. But honestly glad to be out of NY right now with all the crime. My husband said we will never move back again! It’s just my heart is still there! ❤️
You two brothers were great! Love watching you cook, plus you make me laugh! I’m very proud of you both too for making Nona’s Sunday gravy. I hope I get to carry the legacy of my Italian cooking. Everyone I know says it’s the best and now can’t eat other people who make it!! Lol…didn’t mean for that to happen!! 😱😕🤫🤭
Sorry this is so long. …I have a terrible habit of talking too much to people I like! Can’t seem to help it! 🤷🏻♀️ Ciao for now 🙋🏻♀️Theresa Candeloro
We are also from the Greenpoint - Williamsburg area. We lived on Devoe st.
