I'm a black guy from Brooklyn who grew up with an Italian neighbor. She was like a mother to me. She's been gone now over 30' years and I still visit her grave at least six/seven times a year. (Her son, who is buried with her, became the adopted little brother that I never had, died on 911, while serving the NYC Fire Department). She made everything fresh. In fact she had family out in Stony Brook, Long Island who made their own pasta, which they called macaroni and noodles. Her Sunday gravy was the same method as your'e presenting. I assume they're very close recipes. She made the best food I've ever had and I've traveled the world. Gravy is all about the subtle seasons and the process. I have family in the south and I refuse to eat their "Italian" food because it has such little connection to the authenticity that you present.
I'm an Irish guy who grew up on a Steet that had 20 houses on it. 18 of them Italians. And as a kidI ate in each and everyone of them. but learned a lot from Old John Ippoliti, he made the Sunday Gravy. and it was the same ingredients as you made here. and he made his own pasta's. I used to help him make them. and Gnocchi's, and helped him crush grapes to make his wine. each year. he was like my own Grandfather. God I miss him gone since 76. but still missed. God Speed John!
Omg the braciole! I grew up with Sunday dinner with Italians next-door. This is exactly what they made same as you and the mother would send a meatball sandwich for lunch for me all week long. Italians are so generous with the food.❤
When I was a kid in Astoria NY The Ronzoni factory was in Long Island City they made this huge pasta it was called Ocio di lupo eye of the wolf. The brand you used in this recipe is a brand I love pricey but excellent
Sunday gravy was the smell in our house every Sunday my mom would start it and while we went to 12 noon mass it was simmering for 2 hrs ... Best memories and the best meal ...it's traditional, love and delicious food ❤Absolutely delicious
Gravy yes! That's what we called it in the Italian neighborhood I lived in just outside of Chicago...Melrose Park...I miss my husband's grandmother's gravy it was the best! And so were her meatballs I've tried for years to duplicate them but not the same.
As a Pollack I never felt so ashamed!! You guys know what you’re doing!!!! Made sauce for canning with my old Italian neighbor. Pork bones. Salt n pepper. Oil. Basil. Canned that as base sauce!!! So good!!
Memories of the old New York unfortunately New York is not like this anymore I went last January all the Italian places are gone It's quickly becoming Chinatown & Middle Eastern town the whole City even Lenny's pizzeria closed you guys keep up the good work keep Italian food alive
@@BrooklynBrothersCooking I appreciate you guys's work greatly i wish some you guys will come to the West Coast they need to get rescued Italian food is trash on the west Coast right now only in San Diego and San Francisco is somewhat decent Italian food but not like back east
Much as I can't stand NYC, next trip, go up to Arthur Ave in the Bronx. It's just like Little Italy in Manhattan used to be, and better. As far as this Jewish boy is concerned, it's one of New York's very few redeeming social graces. Mangia!
@@davidh9844 thanks for your reply even the Jewish delis are kind of Disappearing I remember some of the little Jewish delis that were much better than Katz Deli Soloman's I think it's better than Katz's and it's still over there but my favorite was Carnegie Deli I think in the 90s it was the best Jewish deli in the whole city pastrami sandwiches was 3x three times the size of a katz sandwich and a better quality the cheesecake was better than juniors cheesecake or about equal

With a little variation I make the same as you. Which my mother made and her mother too. Now it is a staple when my kids are home. Hope I have passed on the tradition to them.
Omg I miss my mother making this, like he said it melts in your mouth so good😋 she would put pig skin in her sauce along with the sausage and meatballs. Doesn’t get any better. Italian food always the best🇮🇹
Love that you say "gravy" I have always called it gravy, that's how I was brought up, these days though when I say gravy, some think I'm talking about brown gravy, so, depending on who I'm talking too, I say sauce, 🤣🤣gravy looks delicious!!!
I went to Syracuse University back in the day and for a WASP kid from Colorado, all the local Italian families (mostly of Sicilian descent) and their Sunday dinners were a revelation. Spaghetti sauce was ‘gravy.’ Pasta was ‘macaroni.’ And the manicotti was the stuff of legend. Oh, and I still remember the clams casino. Great video. Thanks for letting us visit your kitchen!

I love the way you make your Braciole. My mother in law taught me how to make her Braciole the same way except she would put a little crushed red pepper in the Braciole. Nice and spicey!!!! Yummy 😋
Guys, I'm waiting for the weather to break here in Georgia before it's Sawse time. Small suggestion - be on the lookout for Parmigiano rinds; they freeze perfectly. Two or three rinds into the gravy, your masterpiece improves dramatically. (I've never tried it with pecorino rinds; that could be interesting,)
This is true authentic Italian cuisine. My maternal side of the family hailed from Via Passeira just feet away from the Dolomites and this is how they cooked except they used lamb. I prefer pork. Great job guys! You're the best!@
Beautiful job guys. Buon Natale! My cousin Vinny lives in the Dallas area. Another transplant from back east. His mother had the best old school Italian spot back here. She lives out there now too. You guys should link up!
I made Sunday gravy this past weekend. I left out the onions and I used beef ribs instead of pork ribs, and I made some sweet Italian turkey sausage meatballs. I pounded out some beef round steaks and I swapped cranberries for raisins in the braciole, and I threw in sweet Italian pork sausage links for more flavor. I cooked it for four hours came out great. Everything fork tender. I got so much left over that I broke it down to containers and put it in the freezer. It was only three of us. But man, it was so good
