  • I still can't believe it! Bryan gave us this 2007 E60 BMW 550i for free! Of course, there are quite a few problems with it, but it was still free. Bryan has kept up with this car as much as he could until it was no longer drivable (due to the ZF 6HP Transmission having problems). Even after it was taken off the road, Bryan still kept the car clean and tried to make sure it wasn't neglected. He requested for us to keep the car in our family so that it can be well looked after since this car holds a lot of sentimental value to him and he would love to see it on the channel. This car provided a lot of memories for Bryan and his father and I hope that we are able to keep this car alive for a long time to come. This video goes over all of the issues that we are able to find as well as getting the car back on the road in a drivable state. Comment down below for any future videos you would like to see on this N62 BMW 550i! Thank you Bryan!

    Special thank you to Bryan for gifting us this car. I hope we are able to get this car back to tip top shape and make content to help others! Comment down below if there are any specific videos you want to see on this car in the future!

    Jason! As the prior owner of this car I could not be more excited about how much progress you've made already. My heart is happy. I absolutely loved this car and while it was a difficult decision to let it go, I still stand by the decision that it was time for a new chapter in the car's life and it makes me even happier to know it's in your care. Keep up the great work and for contributing all the valuable information to the BMW community. You never know, maybe there'll be another one I give to you in the future! I enjoy all of your videos and this journey has been well worth it. I hope the same for you even though you're the one doing all the work! It was a pleasure to meet you and Selena. I'll always be here on the other side of the screen and a faithful viewer/subscriber as well. Thanks again!

    Most people don't want to spend 2-3k a year for maintenance but will be happy to spend 40+k for a new car - that will lose 6k in depreciation a year.

    • @ShopLifeTV
      @ShopLifeTV  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I know exactly what you mean, but not all cars are 40k and there are quite a few cars that can be bought used that hold their value. Obviously not as fun to drive, but can still be a good car!

    The repairs are very expensive for the v8s. valve stems, timing chain guides, coolant hoses/pipe in the valley and the alternator bracket (just labor intensive) adds up to the cost. It's still a very good car for restoration though because it's well kept. I pretty much stay away from any BMW v8s even if they are very cheap to buy.. they follow the statement "a very cheap is the most expensive ". Typically they are hard to sell and end up as parts cars, some of them get bought really cheap from people who are clueless on what they are up to (for those not mechanically inclined)

    To us enthusiasts these pieces of metal, plastic and rubber are way more than just cars. I've dreamed of the day I'd sit in my own BMW for as long as I remember, and the day it finally happed I was blown away. It was extremely emotional.
    They do take work to keep on the road, but and this is a big but, if you've got yours put in the work. Especially the older models, they simply will never make them like this anymore, and the new ones are just not the same imo. Thanks for keeping this one alive, I'm looking around for a nice daily. Cant keep driving my E46M3 as a daily although I love it.

    When I see how this car was fixed, it's clear that this car can't be in good condition. This welding would be never be allowed in Germany. The TÜV would look at this car and send you to hell for that. I know that these V8's aren't the best because German V8's are not so common so they are not as refined as Amarican ones. But in general BMW are way more reliable than many other brands if you maintain it right! Take for example an inline 6 diesel 3L like I have. It has 300k Kilometers (186k miles ) on the clock and runs as it is new. There is no oil anywhere and the interior is damn clean. Everything works as intended and the main thing that had to be done was the whole belt system and the flywheel. ( it's a manual ) The glow plugs are done but the ones that are in my car are the first ones so I can forgive them for failing. So buy a e60/e61 if you want a good car that has decent power too. The 3L I6 525D has 197 HP at can be tuned to over 270 HP just by software. Mine has around 250 HP and that is more than enough.

    Jason, another major issue with these E60, E63, E64 series is that the "power active steering wire harness, which runs through and hidden inside the hole of the front subframe to the hydraulic unit on the passenger side. As these wires aged up and melted, it'll trigger power active steering Malfunction and disable the braking ability. That active steering wiring harness needs to be replaced and coded with NCS expert.

    The yellow stuff in the transmission is cuz by the coolant leak in the back of the engine. Where it transfers from one side of the other. You need to remove the transmission to replace the gasket. Which is a horrible design.
    The three horrible design of the n62tu engine is the alternator bracket oil gasket. The water transfer pipe and the gasket in the back of the engine.

I currently fixed a lot as well and down to minor smoke that appears out the exhaust every couple weeks or so, coolant leak I’ve pinpointed to the pipe under the intake manifold, and I do have vibrations at idle, but not too crazy. I had a 545i 6 speed manual i use to do all the work myself but I had to pay for the alternator seal 3000 dollars to b replace. And after 5 years started to smoke when taking off at the stop lights because of the valve steam seals so I got tired and sold. It was good car but every time you drive it you had to spend money on it

    I have an e60 550i that’s down right now also. It started going into limp mode anytime I would go over 3000rpm. Once restarting it thou it would reset itself and drive fine once I don’t go over 3000rpm again. The last time I drove it it went into limp mode, but the normal stop and start of the engine doesn’t reset it. It has no power and throws a code that says multiple engine misfires and can only move on the flat. I replace all the coils and spark plugs to no avail. I also replaced the all the O2 sensors. Have you come across a similar issue? Someone told me the Catalytic converter may be clogged, what do you think?

    • @omigalul2105
      @omigalul2105 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@curtishouze1471 The one that came with the car was on borrow time, car had 360k odo.
      Second one was used but rebuilt. It ran well. I hit something on the road and it went under the car. Engine pan survived, but the transmission one popped. Didnt know I was leaking oil and the oil level sensors dont tell you until its already too late. 1,2,3 gears were done.
      Third one is in right now. New ones start 11,5k from dealer. Also the engine is covered in oil leaking everying.
      I will miss the car, 2007 barbera rot, beige interior

    ShopLifeTV, thank you for sharing your knowledge on BMW with us. Lord knows I'm no mechanic, but you seriously have helped me find problems on my BMW especially since I had no clue where to even start. I call you "Clutch". Because of you I'm able to do my own work with my broke self haha. Speaking of broke is there anyone out there that can help me get some rod bearings and a DMTL pump for a 2003 330i 5 speed, M54. It's been sitting since November 16, 2021. Having trouble because my job barely gives me work because I can't get to them and I live too far for them to pick me up. I've worked two days in the past month only because the client was on my side of town. If anybody can help it would truly be a blessing 🙌 🙏.
