When MY GRADE went cross country skiing, i was first in line and i fell over and couldn’t get up, and they had the little ditch things to guide us so no one could go around me

I honestly have never liked participation medals. I'm not actively against them, I just hated receiving them as a kid. Like even as a 9 year old I thought "I know I lost, but apparently you don't think I can take it so you're giving me this sorry excuse of a medal so that I can feel better? That's insulting."

I don't remember there being things like that when I was a kid, or even really medals, but I remember getting ribbons at track and field--and no matter how you did you got a ribbon, but the distinction there was the ribbon said what place you got. So you'd get, like, a 6th place ribbon or a 13th place ribbon or what have you. So you still GOT a cool ribbon, and they were all different colours, but it was representative of what you accomplished.
Right?! It felt so demeaning. For me the big thing was that the participation ribbons didn't go to everyone who participated, just the people who lost. Really it just felt like rubbing it in.

oh hey, im a boy scout, and my troop does yearly skiing activities, and i can say, quite firmly, skiing is hard, especially since the whole "fries to go fast" and "pizza to slow down" thing doesnt work all that well, especially on more steep hills, but in all of my skiing activities, i can say that the main hard part of skiing, is fear factor, especially when you go down a hill and you can see the bottom. most easy hills are the same as hard hills (at least in most places where you sign up to go skiing) but the difference is how much of the hill you can see.

I relate to this video deeply. I was a very active child and experienced a few sports such as softball, basketball, golf, and was even on a soccer team. And while I wasn't the worst, I also wasn't the best and the older I got, the less I cared for sports and watching is definitely not my thing. A lot of my family love football but they just confuse me when they talk, so I stick to drawing as well.
i too remember being very into sports as a child and then sucking really bad at those sports. though i believe i could've been pretty good if i kept at it, but i sustained a permanent injury after i got hit by a car so... no more sports for me.
i was a football guy in high school. pretty good at what I did, i was on offensive line, pretty big dude. I knew i wasn't gonna make the basketball team, or the golf team, or any of those other sports, but I still tried out for them anyway just to be annoying to the coaches. I remember trying out for the golf team, going up to the coach after the tryout and saying "I shot an 89." Coach said "Wow hey that's pretty good!", to which i then replied "Coach... that was the first 9 holes". I did not make the golf team... but I did get to dress all fancy for a day.

I don't remember there being things like that when I was a kid, or even really medals, but I remember getting ribbons at track and field--and no matter how you did you got a ribbon, but the distinction there was the ribbon said what place you got. So you'd get, like, a 6th place ribbon or a 13th place ribbon or what have you. So you still GOT a cool ribbon, and they were all different colours, but it was representative of what you accomplished.
Right?! It felt so demeaning. For me the big thing was that the participation ribbons didn't go to everyone who participated, just the people who lost. Really it just felt like rubbing it in.

oh hey, im a boy scout, and my troop does yearly skiing activities, and i can say, quite firmly, skiing is hard, especially since the whole "fries to go fast" and "pizza to slow down" thing doesnt work all that well, especially on more steep hills, but in all of my skiing activities, i can say that the main hard part of skiing, is fear factor, especially when you go down a hill and you can see the bottom.
most easy hills are the same as hard hills (at least in most places where you sign up to go skiing) but the difference is how much of the hill you can see.

My sports experience has been getting hit in the head by (almost) every piece of sporting equipment you can think of. Baseballs, soccer balls, basketballs, one of those plastic bowling pins, tennis balls, an exercise ball once, foam balls, golf balls, frisbees, I even got domed with a bat once (The hitter threw it).

I relate to this video deeply. I was a very active child and experienced a few sports such as softball, basketball, golf, and was even on a soccer team. And while I wasn't the worst, I also wasn't the best and the older I got, the less I cared for sports and watching is definitely not my thing. A lot of my family love football but they just confuse me when they talk, so I stick to drawing as well.

i was a football guy in high school. pretty good at what I did, i was on offensive line, pretty big dude. I knew i wasn't gonna make the basketball team, or the golf team, or any of those other sports, but I still tried out for them anyway just to be annoying to the coaches. I remember trying out for the golf team, going up to the coach after the tryout and saying "I shot an 89." Coach said "Wow hey that's pretty good!", to which i then replied "Coach... that was the first 9 holes". I did not make the golf team... but I did get to dress all fancy for a day.
