Once you're able to start your car using the power pack, then your alternator will do the charging. But if you have an old or bad battery, then once you shut the car off, you might not be able to start your car again cause your old battery won't retain a chare. That is only if you have a bad battery that needs replaced.
To charge just plug a extension cord in the back of the charger and plug into the wall. Let it charge 24 hours. I charge mine once a month. Hope this helps you out. Stay Safe and Take Care!

Hi there I just barely found you I have a question that maybe you can help me with.. Customer service for this product is kind of difficult... I bought the super start power pack portable 12 volt power source about 2 months ago... I put it in the back of my car still in the box not using it... The other day I got in car battery was dead... I did end up calling AARP roadside.. I didn't use the power pack because I hadn't used it before and I was in a super hurry and they were coming fast... I decided that I better bring it in and see if the battery has been self discharging just sitting there never been used... So it has been plugged in now for 3 days.. the managing charge has never lit up.. the charging light is still red after 3 days... The five lights are red yellow green green...in that order..I have no idea if is it is charged or not ..I want to put it in my car for the next emergency... Are the five lights all supposed to be green? What do you think is up with that red light still on is it supposed to turn yellow.. managing light yellow? I don't have the receipt so to take it back to the place I bought it might be difficult to return but I thought I'd ask you first...There's something going on with my car that I cannot pinpoint periodically this happens and I still don't know why.. that's the reason I bought the super pack... What do you think? I have read the booklet and there is nothing to specific about that I can see anyway about the lights.. kind of but not really nothing I'm finding anyway
If all 5 lights light up when you push the button, then the charger is completely charged. It doesn't matter what color the lights are when the company made the charger, they used different colored lights. Mine shows red, yellow and green but the system is fully charged. If only 3 lights are lighting up, then the system isn't fully charged. On the left hand side there is maintaining battery and charging battery lights. When the charger is low on a charge the charging light will be displayed. When the charger is charged then it switches to maintaining battery. When the charger is unplugged then no lights will show. Hope this helped you out. If you still have questions I would take the charger to the place where you bought it and they will be able to help you out. From what you told me I feel the charger is charged and ready for use. Have a great day! Stay Safe & Take Care!

You dont connect the negative cable to the negative cable on the battery at all when you plan to start the car. You connect it to unpainted metal on your car just like when you jump a car with regular cables to another car for jump starting. Only time to connect the black negative cable to the battery cable is when you are leaving it on to charge but NOT start the car.
Black which is negative goes on black, red which is positive goes on red. You can ground the negative by putting it on metal and boost the car that way. As for charging this is not a charger it's a jumpstart pack. Stay Safe and don't get those cables crossed.

The wall-wart on mine is a 7.5 watt power supply, there's no extension cords made that can't supply this much power so rest easy. This also means that the charge available when you are charging the unit is only 7.5 watts, which is why it takes so long to restore the charge after you use the unit.
