Started Calisthenics recently after reoccurring injury from dumbells. I have been looking for a good video on which pull up bar to get, and thankfully, this helped a lot. Currently using Total Gym Pro and a table for pull ups.
I have a anchored pull up bar that I had built and fabricated out of steel in my yard, and I have the freestanding pull up and dip station in my garage I use in the winter and in inclimate weather.
I recently built an anchored pull-up bar in my backyard. It was fairly easy to build, and didn't cost a lot for the materials. With the bar, and a pair of gymnastic rings, I can do lots of different exercises.
Dunno man, kinda feels like your getting us tell you to build that fitness park in the back garden, so you can justify it to mrs minus the gym 😉. Look....its what the people want....
I’ve been watching your videos for over a month now. Your tutorials are well explained. I’ve been trying to do Planche push for a long time but can’t do it. Can you please make a video on it, Thanks
When you have a doorframe too wide for the ones that hug on the frame, only a small room (so no freestanding ones possible), and I rent the room (so cannot screw in brackets), the merely telescoping ones are the only ones usable at all ...
Please do start building!!!! My husband and I have been considering it for almost a year now, but don’t really know where to start or what to consider, but with your experience we will definitely jump on it, most likely!!! Thank you :D
I like the yard one, but not planning to go for that yet. I am planning to get a wall mounted pull up bar from bellsofsteel (as I am from Canada) and mount it on my outer wall, which is made of brick till half way. Not much of a handyman, so have to pay someone to do it.
i have a telescoping pull up bar and it has a rubber on both ends for friction and its good i didn't use any kind of things to mount it or drill something in the doorway. i can say that its good because i weight 66 kilos and i used extra 15 pounds and it still hungs
I have a telescope-bar and if you ever get one, make sure your door openings are wide enough for the bar. When I got one I had one door opening that wasnt wide enough so I had to put it somewhere else. I wish it wouldve come with more than two mountingbrackets so you could have two up high and two in the middle. I don't feel I can go up high enough with my head when doing pull-ups to get full range of motion but with chin-ups its fine. Another big thing about those telescope-bars, if you have a weak doorframe theres a risk it can get ruined over time by the force of the bar being screwed out. When people workout with them they often screw them one turn before going just to feel safe and what it does over time is that it starts pushing the frame apart. So when you have telescope-bar properly put in place with mountingbrackets, make sure you dont screw it more everytime you workout.
@@MinusTheGym I've just bought a telescopic one and attached it in a doorway with no door frame but just stone. You mentioned they are unsafe? I weight about 60 kg and the max it takes is 100 kg
The last pull up option is the best no games no bs and that’s what it’s about .. when you reach a certain level with pull ups you should keep sharpening that sword and break the bar as you do muscle ups
Just discovered your channel. Very informative! Are you familiar with the "Perfect pull up bar"? It has a bar on arms that are mounted to the inside of a door frame. It can stay locked in the overhead position, free float out or hang into a lower position. It also has rotational grips which hook onto the solid bar, as well as AB straps which you can put your arms through to hang for hinge exercises. After watching a few of your videos I believe that there are a lot more things I can do with this device that I hadn't thought of before and I'm excited to try some. What are your thoughts on the rotational grips? I've never tried rings but I would imagine it's somewhat similar, although they're a little more stable as they are on solid hooks rather than hanging on straps. The suggested workout material included with it explains to start hanging with your hands facing out and rotate as you pull up and then finish with your hands turned in. Then reversing the rotation on the way back to the hang. I was wondering your opinion on that. It would make sense to me that it would probably be important to do full range of motion in one grip as well as sometimes rotating during it. Would you say that to be true? Do you know of any advantages or disadvantages to rotating the grip throughout the movement? I also have the "Perfect pushup" which similarly allows for rotation during push ups and the same questions would apply…. Thanks in advance for any feedback you can provide. Bill
Does anyone know a way to mount a pull up bar on a floor joist. My basement has wooden floor joists and i want to put a bar on it. I dont know if any of these options work.
I would still highly recommend permanent pull up bars even if you are renting. Holes in walls are easier to fix than damaged doorframe so try to convince your landlord. They are much sturdier and you have more room, you can also mount them on a ceiling or over a door so you have room for lever exercises.
Unfortunately all these doorway mounted bars are way too low for a 2 meter guy.... But i have a garden. So a video about your selfmade bar would be nice to watch…
I'm actually looking into building my own small calesthenic gym in my backyard, so I would definitly be interested in what you are planning. How about sharing in a video your plans as a small taster of the video where you would document the process. On another note, I was wandering if you still used your pull up bar (the outside one) during winter?
Mathieu Good idea! Thanks. And in the winter, I do try to get out on there when there's no snow on the ground and the temperature isn't too frigid, but that's not that often honestly. I mostly rely on my garage pull-up bar in the winter.
I worry about those door frame pull up bars, because that trim may just be mounted with tacks and glue. In some cases, it's even PVC. It's by no means intended to be load baring.
Great Vid Minus.... What are your thoughts on wall mounted anchored pull up bars. Thinking about putting one of those in garage. They appear to be suitable for explosives.
xavier hall thanks! All the wall-mounted pull up bars I've used were extremely solid but they were always mounted on brick or concrete walls. If you have that option, then go for it. I'm not sure how sturdy they'd be mounted on studs in a standard home, though. You might want to research that a bit if that's your plan.
The best pull up bar on the market is the Rogue bar, hands down. Obviously this won’t mount to your door frame, it requires to be mounted in a taller wall with the bolts secured to the studs.
I went 3’ into the ground with 10-foot posts, so the post are only 7’ high. In retrospect, I should have probably got 12’ posts and gone 4’ deep. The extra foot in the ground would make it more stable with explosive movements and the extra foot above would allow me to hang in a dead hang without curling my feet back.
Nick De Leon the 4x4"s were 10 ft. long and I put them 3 ft. into the ground with Quikrete. So they stand 7 ft. tall. The bar is inserted a few inches below the top of the posts. I thought that would be tall enough for me (I'm 5'10") but it's actually a bit short. I think next time I'm going to use 12 ft. lumber and go 4 ft. deep in the ground so they're 8 ft. tall posts. Plus I might use 5x5 posts too for more sturdiness. My current bar does move a little when I swing or kip. I'll definitely make a video when I build more of my "fitness park." I'm traveling next week so will start the week after :)
Hey bro , I just got my own pull up bar between some walls in my house , but the thing is it is tilted a little bit (not too much ). Do you think it would be a problem ? Or it doesnt matter
Rogelio Ramírez uneven pull-ups will most likely make one side pull harder than the other. One way to counter this is to switch sides each set, if possible. So if right arm is higher this time, left arm will be higher next time. But that depends on if you can get behind it to switch sides like that. Can you reinstall it and try to get it level?
I'm in an apartment and have a really sturdy power tower. The ones like you showed are terrible, they're so flimsy. My one doesn't wobble at all. Thick tubing designed for heavy duty use. Would love to see your back yard progress videos as you add to your collection 😊

DaviD R it all depends where that beginner is starting from, so it's hard to answer that question. If the untrained individual is not overweight, I'd say 6-12 months is reasonable to get to my physique with proper training, nutrition and rest. Even less time if genetics are in their favor. To really expedite the process, I'd recommend eating a 30/40/30 diet, meaning 30% protein, 40% carbohydrate, 30% fat. That's the best macro profile for muscle gain I've ever tried. Ate that way in my 20's and I was at my biggest (most muscular) then. BUT - I should mention - if the untrained individual is overweight, then factor in more time to lose that extra body fat to expose some of the muscle definition. The amount of extra time for that varies drastically based on how much extra weight they're carrying. Also worth mentioning: developing advanced skills like hand balancing and flags is not necessary for physique. People have gotten quite shredded with only the basic calisthenics exercises and a weighted vest ;)
Manny Lee Get your nutrition in check. Calisthenics is all about strength to weight ratio. Once your strength begins to meet your weight ratio, work on negative pull ups, isometric holds, and assisted/banded pull ups, and prioritize proper form and not using momentum/kipping.
