    Personally i'd tune the toms a little higher, sounds like they are trying to sing - but not quite there yet!
    Also, the snare feels tuned slightly high in relation to the rest of the drums. Bass sounds amazing though.

    Nice! I had a 1974 Ludwig Pro beat clear Acrylic, never should have sold it! 14 x 24 kick, 13 and 14 mounted toms, 16 and 18 floor toms, many cymbals and accessories. Almost 50 yrs later, I'm interested again and looking to piece that same clear kit together! Thx for the video. Peace

      That's awesome! I've never had the chance to play an acrylic. They seem to be popular again with new drum makers.

    True that probably a cheap Chinese kit just like my 6 piece evolution element that I got in silver chrome. Sounds really great but I'm only gigging with it and not recording. Those expensive kits from monroe NC are great for recording guess that's why it's called a studio kit, but I just need something to gig.😊 sorry but I don't like that configuration. I mean the oversize bass drum with the 14" tom is hard for me to do rolls. I'm happy with my evolution although I really really like those big floor toms.😁

    • @someroomtodrum
      @someroomtodrum  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This kit has been a lot of fun but it's still not my ideal setup. The huge bass makes it harder to arrange the toms comfortably. I need to try moving things around again.

    Oh my….that is a gorgeous kit! I favor the bigger sizes as well and had a one up two down for a while. I know from experience that dialing the right sound in on larger shells is a lot of trial and error. There’s a great video on youtube by Jeff Ochletree, who was Bonham’s tech for a spell, where he details how Bonham liked them tuned, which is pretty unique. I’m looking forward to the drum covers with that beauty!

    More than once, I've been accused of copying Bonham because I have basically the same kit (I put the the 18" tom to the left of the hats), including the 2002 Paistes, but the fact is...... its because Bonham got it right..... at least when he used 3 crashes.

    • @someroomtodrum
      @someroomtodrum  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's such a great setup. I may move the 16" to my left. It's too much of a stretch to twist all the way to the right with both floors.

  • @ShawnxEdge

    Chinese made drums a glorified elite maple kit on par with a Gretsch Catalina or a ddrum maple. Nothing fantastic with these drums other than milking more money off the Zep/Bonham name. Cheaply made drums nothing special. Not a true Ludwig. Hope you didn’t pay more than 800 bucks!

    • @someroomtodrum

  • @Kennethingramandstuff

    Not that it doesn't good with the Evans heads, but I think they betray what this kit is all about. I liked the factory heads better. The exact same thing happened to me a few years back when I bought the now discontinued Ddrum Bombardier (same drum dimensions). To me, you have to let a kit like this resonate. Thanks for the vid, I'm probably going get this bad boy.

    There are plenty of modern drumheads that give a fatter/deeper tone than those Bonzo used. Clear vintage emperor would be ideal for my toms and an EMAD for the kick.

    I have the same kit and was wondering if you have any tuning tips specific pitches or notes ,I’ve struggled with overtones on this kit as well ,currently using remo emporer and ambassador but may switch to evans after listening to your kit

    • @someroomtodrum
      @someroomtodrum  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m definitely not great with tuning and I don’t worry too much about a certain pitch. I’ve watched a few videos on TH-cam recently to try some new techniques and I’d recommend that. Opinions on tuning can vary greatly, but there are some good tips on TH-cam. These heads definitely reduced the overtones but I’m not sure I have them sounding the best they could yet. Another viewer mentioned that the rings on these ECs tend to fall apart after awhile. I would still like to try using Ambassadors or G2s, though I may get a drum tune dial for that.

    • @MrMmnngghh
      @MrMmnngghh 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Tony, try the Tune Bot unit if you haven't already. It's not too expensive, accurate, easy to clip on to a hoop. I know exactly what you mean about overtones, especially on the 16" and 18" floor. I talked briefly about that on another thread here, it's proving to be the tricky part of setting the whole kit up just right.

    I have the same kit, with the same finish. Do you experience excessive beater bounce? Meaning, once a note is played with the beater, it continues to bounce.

    • @someroomtodrum
      @someroomtodrum  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Nice! Yes, I tend to bury the beater into the head with each note. I was getting a lot of bounce with the full resonant head because it traps air pressure. That’s one of the reasons I cut out the hole: it releases air pressure so the beater doesn’t bounce so much. I’ll have a video about that soon!

    • @Leadman1
      @Leadman1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the info. I'm still using the stock full resonant on the kick. I didn't think to change the head out to a ported. I use lowboy wooden beaters and thought it might be some of the issue. I then thought of trying a felt beater (which I haven't used in decades) so I started resting the beater onto the head, to prevent excess bounce. I'm not a Bonham purist, whereas I exchanged the 14x10 with a 14x14 and I play a 14x8 maple snare. I also use Aquarian heads and Sabians. Nevertheless, I still dig the kit.@@someroomtodrum

    • @someroomtodrum
      @someroomtodrum  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can imagine the wood beaters buzz a lot without the port. I’m definitely not going for an exact Bonham sound either. That’s why I chose the more modern EC heads. I just love the look and sound of this kit.

    • @MrMmnngghh
      @MrMmnngghh 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Leadman, I'm happy you mentioned the lowboy wooden beater in conjunction with this kit. Would you recommend it as a beater with plenty of "boom"? or is the bounce too much of a problem?@@Leadman1

    • @Leadman1
      @Leadman1 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MrMmnngghh Definitely go with a ported resonate head. I personally like the attack / sound of a wooden beater. It's something that one must experiment with.

    Been looking for in depth,solid videos on this kit. And there's not many. There's like on unboxing and than several videos of ppl playing the kit. There are differing opinions on this kit in terms of quality, being made in Taiwan and all. There was a video where the plies on one guys kit where separating at the bearing edges. But it seems like it's still ludwih quality,and maple,despite being made in taiwan

    • @NintenDub
      @NintenDub ปีที่แล้ว

      I hope you do an update after some time playing.for the 11-1200$ ish range new, it seems like a real good enough kit. After all,drums are drums, and everything past the 700$ mark, comes down to hardware,usually USA or custom made, and hardware appointments. After that 7,8,900 dollar mark your paying for that.but you can get all maple kits or birch or walnut or sometimes other mixtures for way less than before. I was just looking at a pearl pricing guide the other day, and I recall the 8 piece export double bass kit, being like 1600$ and I'm pretty sure they where poplar and or basswood or both. I wanna get this kit despite just having got a Yamaha stage custom (all birch.well built.yamaha rules,I highly recommend the kit you simply can't beat it for the price) I wanna get this kit but I'm also looking at some mid upper tier ludwigs kits. Never played a 26' bass drum and I want it!!

That’s why I wanted to talk more about it in detail, and I plan on doing a review video with even more detail sometime in the future after I’ve played on it for a bit. I did see the guy’s video with the shell delamination, and I think his kit was from late 2000s but still almost the same kit. I will be keeping a close eye on how it holds up for the price and the build quality. I’m pretty sure it’s American maple that they ship to Taiwan for assembly.
