i would remove the heater from the fuge and also change the light to an LED that can go on the lid somehow, even if you have to cut a hole on the lid. andI would suggest to wrap the bucket in insulation material, finally I would completely remove the stuff from the rear chambers and rinse it all out very well, clean out the rear chambers as much as possible and use a filter sock to aovid any futher crap from getting back there. The reason your fuge may not be removing as quickly as you'd expect maybe because flow from tank may be too low, just a thought. You may need a greater rate of return. Great idea by the way.
amazing setup! i have the same tank and i was thinking of doing this same thing, i grow cheato in the back middle chamber right now, may i ask do you have water running from the tank into the bucket, then back to the tank? How are you doing that?
Our Neptune DOS water pump exchanges 1.3 gallons from the refugium with the 13 gallon tank each day. One of the key benefits we've noticed so far is how having that extra few gallons of total water volume for the system has also smoothed out the water chemistry changes when dosing increasing stability which we're hoping will lead to happier coral and increased bio load capacity.
I feel that you are overheating the bucket by leaving the air temperature in the pocket between the lid and the water surface, the water will attempt to equalize to that temperature
Yep the lanth definitely dropped it but we wanted to try a more natural route. Since shooting this we increased our use of frozen food in place pellets and have seen big improvements. Also trying fluconozole for bryopsis and it seems to be working
My dad used to admonish me: "Your intentions are good, but your judgements is off." HINT: Tank water has to 'pass through' your DIY refugium. Just water sitting in the bucket is useless. Buy a proper refugium and plumb it accordingly... 😂
