I would want to come up with some way to cover it up or disguise it since a criminal looking in your window would know immediately it was a gun safe.

Showing the safe off to multiple people they have sat in my car and they don’t even notice or care for the safe less did they know it was a actual gun safe but theft happens everywhere so covering up could be good idea just a extra step to do that and remember every time to do it

9:00 smaller isn’t always better. Can the Hornady fit a greater number of full size pistols like a 5” 1911? The shifting and deflating air bag is an issue but is the weight really an issue? “Ewww it’s heavier” And?
On the lockbox, you have to lock it with the key to secure it otherwise anyone in the vehicle can hit that button?

We have a couple of lockboxes in each of our vehicles. They attach to the seat mounts just like this gun box. We use them when we can't take our guns into a prohibited (there shouldn't be any prohibited places but thats another story) place. When driving, we have "driving holsters" from Azula. They make high quality holsters at very good prices. The driving holster goes on your belt in the front and are basically horizontal rather than vertical. I believe they call the seated holsters. They are awesome for road trips as well.
Have a great day y'all and be safe.
    P. S. The lockboxes are about $30.

Very true I guess what made me go this route is I wanted to have a full size pistol on hand at all times plus my garage is attached to the house so I just lock it and it’s always there no matter what so if I don’t bring my mid size with me that full size is always in my vehicle plus I didn’t want a magnet 🧲 mount or holster mount because it’s still very visible I already hate police encounters or even traffic stops enough that if they saw it like that I can’t imagine what they would think so this safe gives me protection fast access to it at all times and to this day some people still don’t know it’s a gun safe but I do see what you mean

As a defensive firearm instructor, I've been using the Hornady safe for years, and have recently been looking into the Kwick Strike. I've never yet removed the Hornady from my car, but I'm glad to see the problems you have found with the hardware on reinstallation.
Problems I have had now are: 1) the internal battery no longer retains a charge, 2) the air bladder no longer holds inflation, causing the safe to sag and move a lot. I'm ready to try the Kwick Strike. Just a little wary that it's not a true safe (like the Hornady is).
The Kwick Strike is able to be defeated with common tools carried by auto thieves. But like others have commented, throwing a garment over the device when leaving it is a good suggestion.
Not relying on power or battery is a huge benefit!

I like the Hornady because with the rfid I’m in it fast. I don’t use the inflatable. I mounted the Hornady with security bolts to my Molle panel in my vehicle. Very secure and very fast to open. My only problem is that it doesn’t fit my full size 45acp and it’s tight fit for my Beretta 92FS.
I stuck a rfid decal on the back of my vehicle key fob. I have issue with keys.

I've owned some pretty expensive gun vaults with electronic locks, and they've all presented access issues at some point. You can use a soldering iron to re-embed the nutserts into the plastic ring. You can even buy oversized nut-serts from a fastenal/grainger type store and embed them with a soldering iron. The simplicity of a purely mechanical storage box is nice but I hate messing with keys etc instead of a simple RFID wrist band.

As far as I'm concerned, noone makes a good vehicle gun safe. Kwikstrike charges $300 and they don't even have a way to attach your cable, you need a padlock. It should secure inside the safe. gbg. What we need is the best of both worlds, we need a kwick strike style that has a finger print or RFID release. I don't like the idea of having to fumble for a key in an emergency. Keys should be a last resort. If you forget to unlock that thing and you boop it with your leg in a life or death situation and it doesn't come up, RIP.
