If I had to pick one camera between the Fujifilm X100VI, the Fujifilm X70, and the Ricoh GR IIIx, I wouldn't. Instead, I'd pick my dream camera, the Fujifilm X80. In this video, I'll share what specs I want in an update to the Fuji X70 that would make a camera like the Fuji X80 an instant cult classic.

reggie you beautiful bastard I thought fuji announced an x80! I immediately googled it and realized I'd been clickbaited. Just watched the video and I agree 100%, x80 is one of my dream cameras as well. I have a couple of interchangable lens fujis and a couple of compact small sensors that I love taking around with me whenever, but the compactness and imaging potential of the x70 (and hopefully its successor as well!) literally gets me giddy with excitement. Ever since my introduction into photography with interchangable lens systems I have come to value the portable nature of compacts more and more even though I can't deny the difference in image quality between the two. There is something about a camera you can pull out anytime and snap without actually intruding on the moment that brings me great joy. I've been toying with the idea of getting myself a canon gx1 mkII as it has a 1.5 inch sensor (kind of an in between of m43 and aps-c) and a decent zoom range of 24-112mm (equivalent) and native 4:3 aspect ratio which I prefer personally.
My apologies lol
Yes, please, count me in as well! I’d ask for IBiS as well, to really extend its usability into lower light and night photography.
My dream camera: In camera personalised Luts even for pictures like new Panasonic S9. 4K60 (8bit video is enough for me). APS-C sensor, and conectivity with phone like new S9. I have A7iii which is even know camera that shoots everything without ease. But because the process of having to shoot raw, edit it in lightroom and then having a photo Im happy with... I like shooting photos. Beying out, see the beauties and use the camera. But I hate editing and I hate sharing photos on social platforms. So these two things I would like to have over me ASAP.
What stops you from getting an s9
@@Reggiebphoto Lack of mechanical shutter and a fact its FF. A I want a small camera with small lenses with those features.
Makes sense
Convinced, would buy it in a heartbeat!
I have fujifilm XT-10 with X-trans 2 with sensor, and i love this camera and her production of colors, pictures are insane
right?!
I'm with you on this one Reggie! I wouldn't mind the camera to be a little bit bigger for it to pack a longer lasting battery. I don't know if you said that you could use both filters at the same time or not. If not I would which that that would be a feature as well. Thanks for a great post.
I'd like a Fuji X100vi body with the pop-up selfie screen from the X-E4 (with LCD specs as the X-T5), a 16mm f/1.4 fixed lens (leaf shutter), IBIS, 40mp sensor, charcoal grey from the X-T50, add the d-pad from the X-T5, dual SD-card slot, and top it off with the NP-235 battery (which would probably necessitate a larger grip).
Me totally forgetting the xt5 has a dpad HAHA.
I have had the X70 since it came out. It is GREAT for street photography when you work with zone focusing. The built in flash is really important, as you say. Ricoh made a huge mistake removing the flash from the GRIII.
The GRII is better than the III in my opinion.. not only because of the flash, but also the button arrangement was more comfortable, and they removed some nice features, like being able to set a custom button to crop from 28mm to 35mm, and back to 28mm. Now, the GRIII goes all the way 28-35-50mm. Before you could do 28-35mm only, if you wished. The colors on the GRII were really special, too. Reminded me of the colors from the Leica M9 CCD sensor.
Big problem in the GRs though is the awful blackout after each shot. It makes the camera sluggish when you need to take several shots in a few seconds. The X70 does not have this problem and feels faster. The burst is better in the X70 too.
I shot for 2 years with the GR and GRII exclusively. Loved them but the X70 was a bit better. For me, even if they released the exact same X70 again, I would buy it.
True that. If they released the x70 as is, it’d sell well
Great video. I’m with you on the desire for an X80. I have the X-E4, the X-70 and recently the X-100VI. Traveling with the first two last summer, I found using the X-70 preferable for most occasions except where I wanted better resolution or using a zoom. I love the flip up screen on both and I think a modern version but I still prefer the X-Trans V and with a mist filter would mediate some of the image quality especially with your recipe. I’m still evaluating the X-100VI but the weight difference is noticeably different when compared to the X-70.
The xtrans ii colors are superior. But I hear you. You can have the xtrans v version.
BEEN waiting 🙏🏼💆🏻♂️
It won’t come
X100VI with interchangeable lenses hands down. I actually got myself the XM1 but hopefully we get a XE5 with a flash or something like that cause there are much better lenses than the built in ones and if you really want to maximise your potential in tight spaces you absolutely need another one.
I love your thoughts on this subject.
How so?
Yes, X80 please!! Small camera with fast(ish) lens and fast autofocus. I cannot believe they never continued the line after x70.
Agree completely. Would buy it in a second. Especially if better battery. My X70 is a little worn but still such a convenient travel carry.
such a great video and great photos! love this channel. just for fun, i looked up what a x70 costs on ebay, wow, it's quite $ still. love it! keep up the great work!
The price is more than what it was when it was brand new
@@Reggiebphoto holy moly, so just like the x100 series!!! I have been eyeing an xt 5 or xt 50 though, haven't pulled the trigger but I'll check this comment In a few years to see if I got it yet, heh, great videos!!
I am with you but I want IBIS too. I can't imagine a reason why Fujifilm decided not to build this camera, is it because the number of sellings of the X100V will be reduced? Plus, for me the name must be x70s.
My Dream Camera: I use Nikon and love it, and the Zf is SO close to perfect. But, if I could have something the size of a Fuji Xt5, but still full frame, tilt screen (not flippy), slightly better autofocus (it's good but not quite Z8 level). 28mm, 45mp (to allow for in camera crop mode 40mm equivalent), good weather sealing, in camera ND filter, and the sensor screen like the z8 has. Anything I miss?
I too wait patiently for the X70 follow up. Maybe a little bigger pixel count so images can be cropped at least a bit more.
could we also have built-in gps and bluetooth file transfer please? and usb-c charging and data transfer? and live-view and capture via cable (webcam)? and acros film sim please?
I’m thinking of getting rid of my dslr and getting a Ricoh GR III, I want something compact that I can take with me everywhere. What do you think?
absolutely agree with you that if the x80 will be the next, it needs f/2.0 with 28mm ff eq. in the old pocket size, which retractable lens design is ok.
I would like Fujifilm to take some features from the Nikon Zf, LUMIX, and Ricoh GR3. And better yet, try to stand out by making the camera more into a digital “film camera”
-have the ability for the eye autofocus to work even for manual lenses, and have a green indicator box when in focus like the Nikon Zf. Or have the ability to automatically zoom in to the eye like the Nikon zf.
- Nikon zf also has features like highlight protect and an interesting implementation for auto iso where the top dial is the max auto iso can go up to.
-because people complain about how much more effort to switch auto iso from Nikon maybe Fuji can have this max auto iso on the dial be a setting to toggle in the camera?
-Or even have some kind of indicator icon on the lcd/viewfinder what iso. It would be neat to see Fuji have a warning sign if iso is too high. So in the menus you can say you want the camera to go up to iso 12800, but give a small indicator warning if you are above 6400.
-curtain cover like the Nikon z8 so dust won’t go into the sensor
-Ricoh gr3 has a feature to set a specific zone focus so you know everything will be in focus to a certain distance. It would be awesome if Fuji adds this too.
-Have a way to have more customized Luts like the lumix s9.
-To make it more Fujifilm special, Wouldn’t it be cool if we can create our own film simulations, and even create the square logo you would put behind a film camera? So like the XPro3, but users can create the film name, graphic design, and typography. Users can design the logo on adobe illustrator or even the Fuji x app, then share their custom films on the x app.
- better yet, Fuji has the ability to show different lcd screens when pressing the disp/back button. I want Fuji to bring a digital version of the xpro3 back panel so it looks like there’s a film stock square on the back.
- -I used a iPhone app NoMoCam and I love how the emulations look more like film than Fujis film simulations. Like the toy Kodak camera or the instax features in NoMoCam are way more fun to use if I want a film look.
- Fuji film simulations should have the ability to customize shadow hues, high light hues, generate dust specs, custom framing, add rainbow flares
- Or even, can Fuji mimic more of their green color hue film?
-more importantly, can Fujifilm add the ability to simulate a burned in date stamp? I’m surprised they don’t have this feature.
-does anyone use the advanced photo feature on the xt5 drive dial? Can Fuji replace this with the double exposure like on the xt30?
-after seeing the Pentax 17 come out, I want Fujifilm cameras to be able to create diptychs (two photos side by side) or tryptics (3 photos side by side) in camera. Landscape orientation and vertical orientation.
- leaning in to making the Fujifilm more like a film camera, can Fuji make the xt6 have an optical viewfinder, but then a digital panel that pops can pop in or out like the x100vi? There’s something unique when using an optical view finder on a dslr or film camera vs a evf.
- leaning even more into a digital film camera, the Fuji xt6 should have film advance lever that can be used as a thumb grip, but also can force you to advance “film”. Maybe even having a smooth animation of the film advancing to the right lol.
- better yet, what if you had a software feature to actively slow you down when taking pictures.
- Like you can set only a max of 24, 36, 48, 72 photos if you really wanted to.
- Even have the feature to have your photos “develop” over a span of custom 1 min, 2 min, 5, 10, it’s up to the user. There’s an iPhone app that does this and it’s so exciting to see your photo after it’s “developed”
-have a feature that encourages users to print their photos. Maybe it randomly selects 24 photos you took and presents them as a way to encourage physically printing photos. I come home with 100, and I just keep them on my hardrive.
-have the xt5 have a directional pop up flash
I hope the next X100 series has the same dust/water sealing as the x-pro3 w/ WR lens.
Reggie, my dream camera would be a Q3.
Nice
Thx for sharing your thoughts...I would love a Fuji XE5, with the look, built, pop up flash and sensor of the xe2 but the latest processor for better AF and a newer EVF...aaaaaaand weather sealing so I can take it anytime. IBIS not necessary, I'd rather keep the compact form.
i forgot the xpro3 screen ;)
My dream camera would be very similar BUT based on the X-E2 ( same sensor but with interchangeable lenses) also with improved EVF, new processor for AF...maybe X-E5?!?
hi, great video! would you be willing to share how you meter the light for your photos? Specially with the x70?
Point at the scene, exposure lock, then adjust compensation.
@@Reggiebphoto so are you using spot metering?
Great little quality camera!
Great picture quality for such a small sensor
and camera. I think the fixed lens cameras give
better quality images regardless of sensor size.
Thanks for sharing
I agree with the entire wishlist with the exception of internal memory. I realize a large appeal of this dream camera would be its compactness but personally think dual card slots would be better, offering long term reliability and redundancy. Either way this would be a fantastic piece of kit! 👍
What’s your dream camera?
@@Reggiebphotopretty much found it in the XT5. My only issue with focus tracking may have been fixed by this month’s firmware update so need to download and test that.
Got it. It’s interesting how everyone’s had issues with xt5 focus but I haven’t
It’s crazy to me that Fuji hasn’t released it but gave us a xt30 mkii that quite frankly I don’t think anyone asked for, let alone the xs10 though a solid camera was sprung out of thin air. Fuji needs to give us what we want and by far it’s one of the most requested cameras.
My dream camera would be an xpro4 with the 40mp sensor, ibis, better resolution EVF, the same backflip from the xpro3, an option to setup with each lens (like a profile) that allows digital crop automatically (3 focal lengths) from the fixed focal length (or X times zoom). Like the Leica Q3 but starting from the lens we mount. If you mount the 23mm, you could setup the profile to 35, 50, 90… or if you mount the 18mm, you could setup 23, 35 and 50… something like that but in real time like the Q3. A better battery life, could be the NP-W235 and those take the chance to improve the handgrip. An internal ND filter would be great, a mist filter a nice to have (not sure about a fix intensity).
this will probably be very likely if they follow the same platform of the x-t5
@@Reggiebphoto So true. Not sure if the xt5 does the crop the same way as Leica Q3: it does not zoom in the evf, it draws frame lines keeping visible the out of frame. The xt5 would be the deal but I’m used to a ragefinder style, so let’s wait the xpro4 with metal dials on the top (not plastic like the xt5). 🤞🏼
Would love an X80! I caved and bought a Q camera to get my semi portable 28mm rig ! I highly recommend checking one out if possible .
it's on the list for sure. next camera i get will be some iteration of the q
I'm with you all the way.
Personally; snap focus, highlight metering & ibis would be my wish list should Fujifilm develop the x70 successor. Damn, I missed the x70!
100%
I don't like hype things, and while the X100 cameras might be good I think their success is more about an uncovered demand in the market that got inertia. As soon as a good alternative is offered, all the buzz around this camera will dimminshe. Don't hate me, is just an opinion.
Although, what I would like to have, besides what you mentioned, is what Ricoh offers, a second body with a longer focal or an interchangeable system. Love to carry 2 bodies and 3 lenses. Small body, small lenses, always ready!
This isn’t an X100 camera.
I'm really surprised you don't have an X-E2 with the Voigtlander's 18 and 27 mm pancakes. The only thing it's missing from your list is the leaf shutter!
I’m not wanting manual focus for an everyday camera. The x70 beats that combo for my use because the voiglander is still 2.8
@@Reggiebphoto Oh this makes sense. The 18mm Voigtlander is 2.8. The 27 is an f2. It's such a nice lens too.... if you like manual focus. My kid doesn't move too fast yet; she's only 2 months. I'm sure I'll appreciate AF more in the future.
Same, X80 leaf shutter as sharp as the x100s and that one button push (hold) for silent mode.
1080 120fps 4k 60 fps - why do i have this feeling X80 is coming and will really happen. ;-)
It’s not. If it really was coming and I was aware of it, I wouldn’t be making a video about the possibility of it, because I would’ve been under NDA
Given the X100 naming schemeI if exist it to be the X70S or X70II - otherwise they could only make 1 more after that before hitting X100. 😂
I loved my old X70, but after moving to the GRIII, the intelligent shooting modes make it the better camera in general for me. Snap and zone focus priority mode are game changers.
My dream camera: X-E5 with 26 mp sensor, 5th gen processor, IBIS, weather sealed, same size as X-E4, and Sony level auto focusing 😎
For around $1000
My dream x80 would have:
Internal battery with usb c charging
X trans v processor and x trans 4 sensor
Same screen as x70
Built in ND
Leaf shutter
(Don’t care if it has ibis)
Design language from xe4 and x100vi
Price $1099
Bro lowkey you look like Ogie Alcasid from the Philippines lmaoo
Yup. I’ve heard
I’m using my dream camera. The Fujifilm X-E4
what's your fave lens
Ricoh GR with flip screen
That would be the move
@@Reggiebphoto it is acceptable to be a little thicker. But flip screen helps to compose in different angel and for selfie, even 28mm is not wide enough, but it certainly is a nice-to-have function for photographers.
Yup I agree. I’m a big tilt screen fan
If you didn’t own the X70 with your fav, focal length of 28mm, would you have the Ricoh GRiii or keep the GRiiix? Or both? lol
This is a very reaching question at this point. And I don’t know how to answer that.
IBIS and 128-256GB internal memory. That way you can have some redundancy
Having the files go to the internal memory and get saved on the SD card
I'd sell my x100v for this in an instant other then the x-trans ii sensor, I'd rather take the X-trans iv
XPro 4!
I sold my X70 years ago in hopes Fuji would bring out an X70S. I’ve given up hope. Fuji doesn’t seem interested in making cameras we want anymore. Now they make cameras with film sim dials on them. 😂
Yeah their design direction is odd
X1006vi with larger battery
Fuji XQ3
Fuji probably are not interested in what you want.
Of course, not at all. I’m no one lol
Fujifilm extensively talked about killing entry level market like the xt100, x70 etc...I am not saying they are never gonna make it but when camera priced at $1500 selling like hot cakes and they cannot make enough of it. Since its already confirmed they are making a medium format x100 camera. I don't think we will see that camera in near future.
I hear you. X70 was not entry tho. The xf10 was.
@@Reggiebphoto Sorry my bad, i wish they would make it. 🤞
Fuji is isn’t built for this, their sensor sucks with small pancakes, won’t compete with the killer imagery and strong files from Ricoh
Isn’t built for what?
Bro just get the Q, you will be able to choose real quick 😂 I no longer crave the X80
The JPEGs tho. I don’t edit raws anymore. And yes, a Q is coming soon.
The Q is too big
x10 with a crop sensor. Maybe, x70 with an evf...
How would you think they’d implement the evf and keep it small?
@@Reggiebphoto Well, there are a few ways.. Make the screen smaller. Pop up evf. Make it a little bit bigger overall...
Although, I'm not against the hot shoe evf.
