I currently have the X-E3 with the 23mm f2 lens and it does the job, I also like the fact that I also have the 35mm and 50mm f2s in my bag to mix things up a bit. That said I have always wanted an X100 range just due to the size and the pureness of it. So, I sold the Zf and lenses and despite being early in line for X100VI, my every day carry was missing. This is a little embarrassing, but I ended up with an XT5 with a Voigtlander 23mm f1.2 as my every day carry. It has been small, lightweight and gives me most of the crop factors the Zf did not. It was been an expensive year, but worth it.
Hmm, 35mm f/3 FF equivalent so no selfies or landscape or wildlife, limited background separation for talking head, etc etc . With a lower dynamic range than an iPhone 15Pro (tested by CINED), poor-ish low light performance, no flip screen, poor battery life, not great for videography, low resolution hybrid evf. It’s not for me but it is a very pretty camera :) As a backup/travel/day camera, I would still rather have an A7C II with a pancake lens. It's practically as pocketable, full frame, compatible with existing lenses (if you're on the Sony ecosystem anyway) and doesn't suffer from the limitations above. Just saying.
I wouldn’t buy this camera with the intention of using it for video outside of the very occasional clip. But yes the A7CII is a MUCH better hybrid option. See my videos on the A7CR :)
Thanks for the review, I enjoyed it. I just came back from a 3 weeks trip with my xs10 with 1855 lens , geez that thing is heavy and there were days I just didn’t want to bring it with me… 😂 will prob get this before my next overseas trip to get some tax back
Great camera, I would love to get one. Unfortunately, weeks since the introduction and production are already sold out. The VI is already selling on eBay for between $2000 - 2500.
Just took a look and there are a fair few on ebay now asking for close to and over $3000. It's a great camera but I will never understand the hype and silly ebay prices. Those prices make buying an X-T5 and lens look like a bargain.
Agree with everything you have said. I wouldn't buy it as my only camera, I have an XT3 with 2 zooms and several primes for more 'serious' work. However for me the XT100VI will be my travel camera and the one I will be happy to pick up and take anywhere, anytime. I have it on preorder in the UK, but don't know how long I will have to wait for it?
The number of orders for this camera is insane but indeed I’m pretty sure a lot of people ordered it few times at different stores just to increase their luck.
The x100 series is like the perfect sketchbook is to a painter, a place for ideas without the investment of stretching a canvas and committing paint to it. Obviously one can go full send with the 6 or the V, F but your vid is perfect IMO for best use case for this great camera. lol I am upgrading my 100f to the 6 and will be happy to wait for Leica to resolve all of their QC issues!!! I cancelled my M11D pre order cause I am too paranoid. 😂
Hi Ben, great video! My Leica Q is in for an AF lens lock quote prior to possible repair. I have the loan of a X100 and contemplating buying a X100VI instead of the Q repair. What do think, I take b&w exclusively…✌️🇦🇺
its a great camera - no doubt - but i am really finding it hard to justify it over the x100v. they should have updated the lens and the AF motor sound while shooting video still exists. the writing speeds to the UHS-1 card also is kind of disappointing. the AF performance in general also feels sluggish and the hit ratio is not that great. on the LCD it looks pretty sticky but after reviewing, the hit rate is not great. hopefully a firmware update can fix the AF issues
That’s disappointing to hear, as an owner, the AF of the x100v was a pain point I was hoping would be improved. There’s always a compromise: my FF camera has better IQ and (much better) AF but I don’t want to carry around with me
Yeah, I have another video soon comparing the two. The vast majority of people are going to be more than fine with the X100V especially if they already have one. If I didn’t do TH-cam stuff I wouldn’t upgrade.
The greatest problem you had was at the beginning of your video explaining the difference between the two different cameras. I would expect that the Fuji will be a great little camera for most folks, but it is what it is, and taking people’s opinions about things that have been improved has to be taken into consideration. The other thing is the price difference between the Fuji and the Leica , and man what a camera that is it’s probably got lots of wow factor for folks who have the money 💰 for a show off piece. For me your video explanation is top notch between the uses for these two cameras. The Leica on the other hand is for a professional photographer like yourself to be putting it to its proper intended purpose.
Well it would be nice to touch this camera. I’ve attempted 4 times trying to get a Fuji, the X100V (3 times) and one time with the X100VI. I’m seeing that it’s not in the cards. So I guess I need to focus on something different. I have a Ricoh GR IIIx & Sony A6400 with 18 - 135 mm. Does anyone have suggestions of any other cameras or other e mount lenses?
Sony A7C II! :) I have the original A7C and the A7C II, which IMO is a noticeable upgrade over the original and worth the higher price. The body is a little smaller than the X100 series, but even a small fullframe prime will be a little bit bigger. The X100 series cameras do feel nicer in the hand and I think they’re more beautiful, but the A7C series are a really good option between a "play" camera like the Fuji and a typcial "pro" camera.
Great video as always! I pre-ordered the x100vi but cancelled it and bought a Hasselblad 500CM with an 80mm CF lens for the same price. I think I made the right call for me anyway.
Tempting! Thanks Benj for your thoughts - you got a laugh out of me on the which-lens-do-I-take conundrum. That little issue aside my X-Pro3 is still my walk around side-kick of choice.
@@benjhaischSure hope Fuji will continue the X-Pro line - it fits a niche all its own. Smart move to hang on to your x-mounts. The optics are what got me shooting Fuji in the first place. The primes are just so good!
You have to wonder how many of the people who've bought one have just put it straight onto ebay, therefore denying real photographers from ever getting hold of one.
Ok !...x-t5 or x-100vi ?... it would mainly be used for stills (probably never video) indoor small studio - white walls - white back drop. I've worked as a wardrobe fashion stylist , and now I wanna start taking my own images , so yes , I would be new to the game !.... Cheers
How would you compare a Q3 to the X100vi for the same use case? Finally if you weren’t committed to an any particular ecosystem, would you go full frame or APS-C and what you choose? Cheers!
I mean if they both were the same price, I’d go Q3 all day. Cropping the 28mm to 35mm in camera still gives a ton of resolution if that’s your thing. The price of the X100VI if you can find one for retail crushes the Q3 though in price/performance.
@elliotresnick5433 I use most of them for one thing or another. Mainly Sony for modern mirrorless, Leica for rangefinders, Hasselblad for digital MF, etc. but I’m a bad use case as a camera TH-camr ;)
You say you stick it in auto, f2 etc. might be an idea to go to 2.8 or more as the lens is a little soft at f2. Got to say I love using dr@ 500asa as it’s so easy preserving highlights. Nice vid, thanks.
I have a X100VI on preorder too. I preordered the camera on February 20th at 9AM EST. It has been almost a month and I haven’t received my camera. B&H sent a message stating they don’t know when fujifilm will send them a supply of bodies. B&H won’t even disclose what my number is on the waiting list.Lord knows when I will receive the VI and God isn’t talking to me. Maybe sometime this year. I know this camera is popular. I don’t know how long I am prepared to wait for the camera. I’ve seen them listed on Craigslist for $2200. That’s crazy. I wasn’t prepared to pay a premium for a used V and I’m not paying a premium for a new VI. Things have gotten out of hand. I’ve never preordered a camera. Maybe I’m part of the problem. Maybe I should try to sell my space on the preorder list at B&H. Any offers? Mask On Nurse Marty (Ret)
Always the case in LR. Tried in c1 and they are not better either..I don't know if the lens is able to resolve the 40MP. I tried shooting with a lower MP and it seems to be better and a tad bit more sharper. But then why should we buy a 40mp camera 😢
@@benjhaischhaha yes they do! Always enjoy your videos. Your x100v videos helped convince me to pull the trigger. Think I upset a few but I really do absolutely love the camera, It’s making me take more personal photos than any camera I’ve had for ages. Fuji have created something great, no doubt as they have seemingly every generation of this camera. Can’t believe I’m so late to the x100 party.
@@imAnsarinteresting. Either way I love the camera but definitely didn’t think the files looked 40mp in my first couple of weeks with the camera. That said it’s more than enough for how I’m using it.
I've heard this a few times but I've been pleasantly surprised at the degree of detail in the images - except when shooting close-up and wide open. But even then, I only notice when I'm pixel peeping. I think the higher resolution sensor is revealing the optical character of the lens in a less flattering light than the X-Trans IV (which may just be another way of saying that the sensor outresolves the lens).
Thanks for sharing this, Benj. As a Dad who is trying to focus on kids running around I struggle with my X100F to nail eye / face focus more than roughly 50% of the time. Do you find the X100vi focus far superior in this use case?
Definitely still not great for kids. I honestly don’t think any Fuji is necessarily great for kids but the XT5 with the 23 F2 would be better than the X100VI. Lens is definitely the limiting factor on the X100.
Thanks for the feedback@@Chazyfizzlez. I do pretty well with my 18mm F1.4 & the XH2s. I'm not expecting XT5 / XHS2 from the X100vi but hoping that it's significantly better than my X100F
@@thomasmoore3175 it isn’t significantly better, unfortunately… and if you’re coming from the XH2S, I think you’ll be disappointed. I actually just upgraded from the silver X100F and while the af generally feels snappier and stickier due to processor and software upgrades, I found the lens design to be the limiting factor. Those linear motors on the new XF lenses are just so much better for tracking kids. My XT5 isn’t perfect with the modern XF glass either but it is way ahead of the X100VI. I have a Canon R6II that does amazing with tracking kids but of course it’s not much fun to take with you or shoot with in general compared to Fuji.
This video is a very fair review. I like how careful you used your words. Once I became a full-time filmmaker/photographer- my Fujifilm x100v turned into more than a toy that I don’t mind handing to my four-year-old on vacation. Also, while on vacation, you can hand the Fuji off to anyone, and it’s not intimidating for them, and the photos turn out decent. With that, I turned into a snob over the years 😂
The A7RV is still my primary mirrorless camera. The plan so far is to pair that with the M11, A7CR, and 907x depending on the gig. I do love what Leica came out with on the SL3 though and I’m curious to see what LUMIX does either their next release as well.
Thank You for the video!Absolutely agree with everything You have said about the camera. I guess I am lucky to have one already:) Since you are quite knowledgeable about everything regarding the entire X100 series, I would like to ask about the adapter ring. In principle, everyone knows that in order to use any filter on the X100VI, you first need a ring adapter. What I noticed is that after you put on this adapter and a filter on top, the length of the lens increases significantly, and in some cases becomes almost twice as long). I have one 52mm filter and in order to use it with the X100VI, I also put on a step up ring. Although, it would seem, all these rings are very thin, when added together they actually significantly enlarge the lens and this is a little frustrating. So my question is this... which of the existing adapters for the X100VI that you know of is the thinnest? Or are they all modeled after the original Fuji adapter? Of course, I understand that the adapter should have a little margin for lens movement when focusing, but still. I even had the idea that some of the filter manufacturers could make filters specifically for the X100VI, which would have a little of the same reserve for lens movement but would at the same time replace the need for an adapter :)
Nisi makes a kit called “UV filter, Lens Hood and Cap Kit” The filter which is built into the adapter adds 7mm to the approximate original 22mm depth. Also works with the original Fuji cap. With the Nisi hood: 41mm total
I totally get how an X100 can sit alongside a larger 'work' camera for pros but I'm curious what role it plays for you with you having an M11 - Surely those two are playing the same role? Or is it simply because you don't always want to carry *k worth of equipment round your neck? (which I understand) - Curious when you'd pick up the Fuji as opposed to the M11?
Couldn’t care less about carrying money around my neck, it’s more the pure convenience and one handed shooting, especially when out with my kids. Took this to Disneyland with us the other day. Perfect use case for it. The M is great for when I want to go out alone to make photos but just for grabbing memories in a very satisfying way, this still does it so so well.
Benj I enjoy your videos and have this camera on preorder too, looking at the sample pictures, the ones of the kids (at 6:14) they look out of focus , or, if in they were in focus, they look extremely soft.....if that is the best the camera can produce, I may have to cancel my order ...looking for your feedback...thanks
Come on now. Yes they’re out of focus, but those 2 or 3 images don’t represent the actual performance. Plus that was the x100V. The tracking on the VI is reportedly substantially better.
@@benjhaisch I'll just break my back with my S5ii and voigtlander 40mm f1.2 aspherical till then. It sucks that nobody wants to even try, guess what I want is very niche sadly...
No mention of it's video capabilities?? Forget photo for a sec and take a look at the video specs. They are insanely good for a camera this tiny. On a gimbal, it's fantastic! The IBiS, the 6k and ND filter make this camera a true fixture in my camera arsenal.
Hey man, great video. I really enjoyed your comments. I still haven’t figured out if it is correct for me. Primarily, I need it for close photography (mainly for dermatology stuff). I like that it’s compact. But I love that I would be able to carry it on with me for travelling. Do you think it would work okay with all that? Thank you in advance
35mm equivalent is a bit odd for macro, but it does a pretty darn good job at close focus reproduction. It depends on your requirements but I’d assume that’d work well.
I stayed up until 4 AM watching the Fujifilm Summit and videos that followed but couldn’t pull the trigger. Until the next day…. Now I wait. Hopefully by next month. Ha
I think that a lot of what has been said today about teh X100VI can also apply to the rest of the X100 lineup. What makes the X100VI special is the formula : fixed pancake 35mm equiv lens with f/2 aperture, APS-C sensor, nice looking, hybrid EVF/OVF and portable. Except the original X100 which has some ergonomic compromises when it comes to the exposure and EVF, starting with the X100S, every X100 camera is suitable for most of the things that yu described in this video. I think that the question that would have been a little more interesting is why is the X100VI worth it over the other X100 cameras? Typically, how is it improving things over the X100V? Do we really see the autofocus benefits that the newer processor was promising us? Is the IBIS really that useful for such a camera? Is the lens able to make full use of that 40MP sensor or is it a little too soft? And compared to other X100 cameras, is it a good value? My own personal take on this : the X100VI is an excellent camera but it's also the highest hype on the camera market you can find today. Getting one is either super expensive paying scalped prices on e-bay, or waiting months in a wait list. If what makes the X100VI so good is mostly down to the formula, why couldn't we get almost all the way there with mroe affordable / available cameras? Typically, does the X100F or even X100T represent a good alternative to someone that wanted an X100VI or V and couldn't get their hands on one? I personally own an X100S, and for what I use it for (friends and family, a little bit of travel / EDC and sometimes as a fun little camera when I'm on a shoot using my Nikon Z6), I don't think I need more than what it's providing me : most of the enjoyment I get from it is down to the form factor and it doesn't matter if the lens is a little sharper, or if the camera has 12, 16, 24, 26 or 40MP
the msrp is already high to begin with, added the inflated hype price, you are looking at a mid tier full frame camera right there. Not worth it at all.

It’s not for me but it is a very pretty camera :)
As a backup/travel/day camera, I would still rather have an A7C II with a pancake lens.
@@benjhaisch Agreed! - I am waiting for A7CRs to start popping up second hand on eBay, I think that will be my next camera!

Great video Ben. Really liked this a lot. Thanks

I’m mostly shooting Acros with my X100V … it’s brilliant! No plans to upgrade to the VI. 📷😄
@@joetrent4753 Get the Fuji 27mm f/2.8 (with the aperture ring) for your XT-5, and you can have a similar retro experience.
Would you like to buy the X100VI from me? I pre-ordered 2 and, luckily enough, got both. I’m not looking to make any extra money. Black btw.

The number of orders for this camera is insane but indeed I’m pretty sure a lot of people ordered it few times at different stores just to increase their luck.
I’m interested. Going on a trip soon and looking for one. Won’t get mine until May.
Hey man do you still have the second one?
it is absolutely worth the MSRP money. NOT the scalper $2000 people are asking for.

It would be great if I can get the damn thing. Been waiting for it to be available in stock since I pre-ordered it in the first month.
I feel you, waiting patiently as well. Good luck! ; )
Thanks, I agree with your comments. Just got mine two days ago. BTW, where did you get your desk mat?
Really wishing I would have gotten one when I could. The resale value will always be there if needed.
its a great camera - no doubt - but i am really finding it hard to justify it over the x100v. they should have updated the lens and the AF motor sound while shooting video still exists. the writing speeds to the UHS-1 card also is kind of disappointing. the AF performance in general also feels sluggish and the hit ratio is not that great. on the LCD it looks pretty sticky but after reviewing, the hit rate is not great. hopefully a firmware update can fix the AF issues
I would include the battery and sd card slot too!
I didn‘t want to „upgrade“… but I never got a v so my order got upgraded to a vi 🤩 and now I am waiting for that to get delivered😂
I’m torn between the S5iix and Sony A7iv or maybe Fujifilm? Thoughts?
Hey man!
Which square lens hood do you have on in the video on the VI?
I like your example photos around the Seattle-Tacoma area!! 🖖🤩
Hey buddy, quick question for you. Do you know if that camera still can print to my Instax SP2 and SP3 printers
Great video as always! I pre-ordered the x100vi but cancelled it and bought a Hasselblad 500CM with an 80mm CF lens for the same price. I think I made the right call for me anyway.
Haha I can fault you there!
Good choice! What a camera you have bought! I remember when it was for about 500€ more than ten years ago in ebay but I never got one :(
Enjoy it
Tempting! Thanks Benj for your thoughts - you got a laugh out of me on the which-lens-do-I-take conundrum. That little issue aside my X-Pro3 is still my walk around side-kick of choice.
Right??? I’m still waiting to see what they do with the X-Pro4. I’m still holding onto an x-mount lens just in case
@@benjhaischSure hope Fuji will continue the X-Pro line - it fits a niche all its own. Smart move to hang on to your x-mounts. The optics are what got me shooting Fuji in the first place. The primes are just so good!
Cant find one in stock anywhere. :(
You have to wonder how many of the people who've bought one have just put it straight onto ebay, therefore denying real photographers from ever getting hold of one.
@@joetrent4753Yep, a lot of the scalpers even got multiple units. Like 10 of them.
Which software for video editing are you using?
Ok !...x-t5 or x-100vi ?... it would mainly be used for stills (probably never video) indoor small studio - white walls - white back drop. I've worked as a wardrobe fashion stylist , and now I wanna start taking my own images , so yes , I would be new to the game !.... Cheers
You set a precedent with the Hasselblad. Now you need to shoot film with the Fuji Klasse and scan with the X100VI.
Hahaha
How would you compare a Q3 to the X100vi for the same use case? Finally if you weren’t committed to an any particular ecosystem, would you go full frame or APS-C and what you choose? Cheers!
I mean if they both were the same price, I’d go Q3 all day. Cropping the 28mm to 35mm in camera still gives a ton of resolution if that’s your thing. The price of the X100VI if you can find one for retail crushes the Q3 though in price/performance.
@@benjhaisch …what about the second question asked (i.e., these days what camera body/system would you recommend?)
@@elliotresnick5433 I’m always full frame if it’s a feasible option. Just more flexibility for me at least.
@@benjhaisch these days are you vibing with one brand and camera body in particular? For example, Sony’s feel like I’m operating a computer…
@elliotresnick5433 I use most of them for one thing or another. Mainly Sony for modern mirrorless, Leica for rangefinders, Hasselblad for digital MF, etc. but I’m a bad use case as a camera TH-camr ;)
Hello. Any thoughts about the autofocus ?
My X100V came with me everywhere and now it's my wife's and the X100VI is in my man pure with me haha
You say you stick it in auto, f2 etc. might be an idea to go to 2.8 or more as the lens is a little soft at f2. Got to say I love using dr@ 500asa as it’s so easy preserving highlights. Nice vid, thanks.
There's no way I put this camera in my pocket because it's so beautiful, I need to hang it with a nice peak design strap lol
Any offers?

Loving mine so far but do find the raws a little soft in LR.
Been fun seeing your name pop up recently, dude. Old school Flickr days live on. ;)
@@Chazyfizzlez really appreciate your views on this. Thanks.
With that, I turned into a snob over the years 😂
Did you switch from Sony to Panasonic for weddings? Great video!
The A7RV is still my primary mirrorless camera. The plan so far is to pair that with the M11, A7CR, and 907x depending on the gig. I do love what Leica came out with on the SL3 though and I’m curious to see what LUMIX does either their next release as well.
That being said, the LUMIX stuff (S5II and others moving forward, I’d assume) is finally “there” for photo stuff.
How do you get one?
Hi, what's your opinion for a first timer ?
Fantastic for this. Easy to grow with
I totally get how an X100 can sit alongside a larger 'work' camera for pros but I'm curious what role it plays for you with you having an M11 - Surely those two are playing the same role? Or is it simply because you don't always want to carry *k worth of equipment round your neck? (which I understand) - Curious when you'd pick up the Fuji as opposed to the M11?
Couldn’t care less about carrying money around my neck, it’s more the pure convenience and one handed shooting, especially when out with my kids. Took this to Disneyland with us the other day. Perfect use case for it. The M is great for when I want to go out alone to make photos but just for grabbing memories in a very satisfying way, this still does it so so well.
@@benjhaischMakes sense, thanks.

Come on now. Yes they’re out of focus, but those 2 or 3 images don’t represent the actual performance. Plus that was the x100V. The tracking on the VI is reportedly substantially better.

Straightforward review with special use case as opposed to the technical aspect
No mention of it's video capabilities?? Forget photo for a sec and take a look at the video specs. They are insanely good for a camera this tiny. On a gimbal, it's fantastic! The IBiS, the 6k and ND filter make this camera a true fixture in my camera arsenal.

I like that it’s compact. But I love that I would be able to carry it on with me for travelling. Do you think it would work okay with all that? Thank you in advance

Yerp ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Nice camera for most people. But, not for me. I'd rather use my A7CII or A7CR.
