    Uncle Henery sold out to China in 2004 but Schrade LB7 -started with the 4 pin in 1977 then serial numbered in 1978. I could have heard you wrong but this was wayyyyy before 2004

    Just for the record, this LB7 is the Chinese made version, right? Not the vintage U.S. made version?
    I only ask, because I had previously purchased (and later given away) a Chinese made LB8 with staglon scales, and it unfortunately came very dull out of the package, and I was unable to sharpen it, regardless of what method I tried.

    • @DonnieBAllDay
      @DonnieBAllDay  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I got this one around when I filmed, so I'm guessing Chinese made. But I didn't have dulling issues

    Nice review. I have a SCHRADE Cave Bear, very similar. Like it very much...good quality, good price. When I was a teen in the 1970's the Buck 110 was very popular, but I could only afford a SCHRADE. The Holy Grail was a CASE Sharkstooth, but it was even more $$$ than a Buck 110.

    At 10:19, my 1980s Buck 110 would have already broken. That's why I now have a Taylor Uncle Henry LB7. I've heard that I can send my 110 to Buck and they will replace the blade for free, but I would only do that if I intended to immediately sell it. Wish someone made replacement blades in 1095 or similar.

    • @DonnieBAllDay
      @DonnieBAllDay  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 420HC is no joke. Buck does a great job on their heat treats and yes they will replace it.

    • @Possumliving
      @Possumliving 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DonnieBAllDay I might send it back, if the new blades are better than the original '80s blade. When you threw the LB7 into the stump and it didn't break the tip, I was impressed. Also even more happy that I just bought one a couple of days ago. My Buck would not have stood up to that.

    Donnie, I've been a 110 fan since I bought my first one in 1971. I always have wanted to try out the LB7 by Uncle Henry and watching your video has my interest excited again!! Looks like one helluva good knife to me and I'm going to get my hands on one somehow! Thanks for a great video 👍

    My first was given to me by my mother which makes it a keeper. I spent $35 having it repaired by the only certified repair guy in this universe. At the urging of a neighbor who carried one I signed a little card that said I lost or had broken it and they sent me a new one. Which makes me a thief and a fraudster,. Lost the sheath from #1. #2 is unused sheath reads SHRADE as the one I had lost or stolen also reads .No 1970-80 case will read Uncle Henry No uncles Henry but an old John Henry gramps.

    That is the design I carried for years but I hated the edge never held up. Yeah buck does good but this day an age 420 is bottom shelf. How does the LB7 edge retention I had a little pocket folder that was incredibly good a holding a edge just played hell trying to open it sometimes I would use pliers. Ya know when it's real cold it would break your finger nail.

    • @DonnieBAllDay
      @DonnieBAllDay  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The 420HC is actually good quality. It's a little better I think than 7cr17. For a better edge, the Case Hammerhead might be worth favoring. Its better than the KA-BAR.

    I also nearly forgot to mention that by hooking into your facebook account a familiar name popped up on day one. I contacted the guy and found out that his uncle and I were good buds at FT. Bragg. Sadly uncle is no longer with us. I will not give out names as they may not want it. Vet to Vet we protect our own always.

    is your LB7 pre 2004 USA made, or post 2004 offshore made by either Taylor or BTI?
    I have a couple pre-2004 7OT, and a couple 2013 -2015 vintage Taylor Schrade 7OT.
    I find the quality of the offshore to be equal to the pre-2004.

    I love this. These days it is skipped over too often with Bucks. If you have enough interest read up. Its like chicken or egg who did this first maybe it should have been settled by knife fight in a pitch black room. Name the movie and star who did it that way.

    Yo Donnie. Found a large (9" blade) military combat/utility knife which might interest you. It's called the DV-2, made by Kizlyar in Russia. Supposedly designed by a certain Spetsnaz sub-unit for surviving out in the Siberian brush. Here's the best price I found on it: tinyurl.com/kizlyarDV2
    Although a lot of sites conflict on what steel it's made out of (AUS-8? U-8? etc.?), and whether or not the tang is welded, this thing seemed right up your alley. I just ordered mine with the "black chrome" coating, but I'll be stripping it near the spine so I can test whether the chisel-ground section of the spine throws good sparks from a ferro rod.
    You wouldn't be THE first guy to review it in English but you'd be close. Lots of mystery surrounding this thing because so little info on it exists in our hemisphere. Cheers man.
