He was a true original right up there with Johnny Carson. Some of the current late show hosts don't really seem to have that wow factor like Tom Snyder.
Really. I didn't hear him ask a single intelligent question. Was he completely unaware of what Pete Townshend was doing in 1965? Obviously. He was pig ignorant. And if he hadn't had the new wave of groups on the show then someone else would have replaced him.. *should* have replaced him. He asks the same tired old question about "becoming the establishment" that he asked all the other bands on the programme. He didn't have an insight into rock n roll culture at all. It could've been Elvis 1956 and Snyder would have trotted out the same cliches.

I’m guessing some time in 1981, as they’re promoting the 2nd album here. All I know is that by that time, in the early 80’s, we as a society had definitely become completely desensitized to things like rape and murder, much in the same way that we’ve become desensitized to mass shootings today. Her point was that people were still shocked and offended by her destroying a television on stage, but wouldn’t bat an eye when hearing about the latest round of homicides and serial rape on the six o’clock news. And it has only gotten much worse since then.

I've seen her on other talk shows like Sally Jessie and I think it was some "View" type of show where they only had her on to attack her, and that was total bullshit. I still think it's strange that she did that when she loved so many different things. It wasn't only music. She loved animals. She had a cause or two she stood up for and against. She lived a vegan lifestyle, or way of life. She worked out intensely. She didn't smoke or drink or do drugs. She wasn't poor. Nothing adds up at all. The way Tom Synder was speaking to Wendy, "Quiet it down just a little bit..." reminded me of my high school guidance counselor in the 1970s who wanted me to "quiet it down just a little bit" and not wear my leather jacket with pins on it to school (in order to get along better with the other kids). Uh ... NO! Wendy O. Williams was a first-hand role model for me back then (and a very nice person, I got to meet her a few times and she loved her fans!) Oh man, I remember staying up late to watch this in my youth and I was stunning! No one was even close to this band in terms of intensity. You just sat there with your jaw open going, "no fucking way!"
I absolutely loved the Plasmatics, and saw them twice, but the truth is that were a lot of bands back then that were not only just as intense, but a few that were even more intense. One of those bands dates all the way back to the late 60’s (The Stooges). Anyway at this time, punk had been going strong for about 5 years, and the bands just kept upping the ante with their energy levels and intensity. This was ‘81. I saw more hardcore shows than I could count that year, and though most of those bands didn’t engage in all the shock tactics that the Plasmatics did, they were definitely at the very least just as intense, if not more. Some of those gigs erupted into full blown riots, and spilled out of the venues and on to the street. *THOSE* were intense.

I was never really into Wendy's music although her liver performances were hard to turn away from. But in the interviews I've seen her in, she comes across and a kind, intelligent person. I was saddened to hear of her suicide. Sometimes, kind souls have a hard time dealing with this horrible life.
Tom does have a point though, this kind of mentality influenced me to smash some things up when I was drunk and ended up punching a window and severing all the tendons in my right wrist and had to get plastic surgery to reattach them, my hand will never be the same again, lucky I can still play guitar. It's still something i believe in as crazy as it is.

Tom does have a point though, this kind of mentality influenced me to smash some things up when I was drunk and ended up punching a window and severing all the tendons in my right wrist and had to get plastic surgery to reattach them, my hand will never be the same again, lucky I can still play guitar. It's still something i believe in as crazy as it is.
