This woman has achieved so much, and I will never stop admiring her for being the most amazing chick I ever had the pleasure of briefly meeting. We never talked, but I felt as if my life was complete just being in her presence 🤩I grew up thinking she was the coolest thing - I still do.
I'm so glad this vid was posted. I missed this when it first aired. But I heard about it on morning radio. However, all I heard was that Cher had called Dave what she called him and that the interview went very bad. Cher came off terrible. Now, all these years later, I know the truth! And WOW! Cher looks incredible here. As for Dave - he looks LIKE DAVE!!
This pivotal episode of Letterman from 1986 was the one that rocked Dave from being a late night cult hit to mainstream superstar literally overnight. I remember the amount of both serious news coverage and Entertainment shows salivating over this "shocking" appearance by Cher! The interplay was actually quite cute, absolutely charming and hilarious😅 Wonder when she wrote down her phone number during break and slipped it Dave if they ever 'met up' later?? ❤❤
Including the epilogue was a nice touch by this channel. As an aside, my wife & I were recently reminiscing and she said, “I miss watching Dave.” Me too. I know he always compared himself to Johnny, but he had quite a run, and technically, crazy beard and all, is still at it to a degree.
Cher was radiantly beautiful at 40. I so wish she believed it. ❤ Suspect was a great movie-- Liam Neeson played the Suspect. Fabulous film -- don't know if it holds up 35 years later, but I saw it twice in the theater.
I used to love Dave but he became nasty after a while and when I stopped watching or caring except if one of my friends happen to be on the show. Only exception and only for their segment.
This was fun. She's great here, and proved to be a formidable actress over the years. I was taken aback however with her reaction about Sonny. "Meh" I thought they had remained good friends thru the years. Her true feelings obviously shone through in her heart-wrenching eulogy to him after his death.
Took them as a couple, quite a while to understand that the initial love they had was still there. Truly their business but it is Cher and Sonny and we got to share in their acceptance of the love they had for each other. Frankly, once you have a child with a man that bond is still there after a divorce and life goes on. Only exception becomes if the Dad does not do right by the child and deal with his kid with love. Sonny did that. At the end game they knew that idea and I think Cher truly mourned his passing. Life is complicated and you can't explain it with one "sit down" with someone. who is a stranger like Dave was to Cher, . even if you are Cher.
Cher is truly one of a kind. Class. Sexuality. Humor. Elegance. Roughness. Talent. Theres nothing she doesnt embody. Legend. Huge crush for some of us 80’s product.
I am a African/ Liberian. I love this lady since I was a kid. When I go to the movies on Saturdays it was her song that was play before the show. I love you Cher. Happy Birthday and wish you all the best.
I remember watching this! I thought it would have been funny if Cher had been in the final Top 10 as #1 and said after all these years I still think you are an as----.😅
After watching this, I never realized how beautiful Cher was and amazing for 40. Such an intelligent woman, very natural, no pretense and to the point. Her eye contact while talking to you could make most any man nervous.
Aha, "for 40", so she actually is a wreck, as anybody at 40, but for a wreck, it's above average. That's what that stupid "for" is conveying. When in truth she is as gorgeous as a woman can be (which is way more beautiful than a girl can ever be).
@NuntiusLegis since I was 7 years old when this aired, I'm sure I thought Cher was an "old lady" at 40. Now, me at 45, I can see how beautiful she is.

Great interview. I've always thought Cher was beautiful, seeing this video I was memorized on how beautiful she is. Her voice her face and her actions put it over the top for me.

I always thought Cher was attractive, but she looked so naturally stunning. Her honesty is what threw Letterman, she answered the question honestly. For someone who has done a lot, she was extremely grounded and humble. His ego was showing in the introduction, feeling shunned and realistically it felt like he was putting her down from the get-go. Even his questions showed a lot of negativity. Getting Booed, kind of like Trolls wading in on an internet discussion. Cher came out way on top in my book.

So true.. he was like a tongue-tied teenage boy in her presence.
You're exactly right. He's so smitten and flustered, and we are too, omg so beautiful it's stunning.
i love chers voice tone
that was a funny inteview... Dave adores Cher he can't hide it lol
Cher is everything! 🥰 I love her on Letterman, during all her visits she sure gave Dave a good ol' tough time - always tounge in cheek . 😂 I love her honesty and how she wraps it up in her sense of humor.
I never realized how beautiful Cher really was/ is. She really has an appealing way about her, here.
I've never seen Cher look so "natural" and with this type of haircut! Stunning! Fun to watch.
I've always respected Cher but somehow I never realized how beautiful she was back then.
She has said a few times she is a man
She was ❤❤❤
I signed in just to comment that also. I've never before been drawn to her as much as here in this video.
I've always felt she was hot!
She was kinda famous for being very beautiful.
She’s a force to be reckoned with! ❤😂
Suspect was a great movie-- Liam Neeson played the Suspect. Fabulous film -- don't know if it holds up 35 years later, but I saw it twice in the theater.
Cher REALLY threw Dave off his stride. Dave's inability to not let it affect him is part of the reason he was so watchable.
Great Interview, Classic TV...
Is he actually affected or was he good at playing it like he was affected for the sake of humor
@@mikeseal2266 That would be JAY LENO.
Dave wore his EMOTIONS on His Sleeve.
A Veteran of 20 In Person Shows & was on 1....
I used to love Dave but he became nasty after a while and when I stopped watching or caring except if one of my friends happen to be on the show. Only exception and only for their segment.
@@ChooseCompassion I kinda liked him best when he was at his nastiest. Felt real. I get tired of the dog and pony nice-nice show
Cher looked absolutely STUNNING here! 😍😍
Cher is reputed to be a rather shy person when she's not acting or singing. That said, if you push her buttons, she WILL push back.
She really hurt his feelings To the point that she did apologize to him. Cher is a legend and also a very nice human being
She's trash and not a good person. You're obviously Star struck.
Sure, and WrestleMania is real too...
This was fun. She's great here, and proved to be a formidable actress over the years.
I was taken aback however with her reaction about Sonny. "Meh" I thought they had remained good friends thru the years. Her true feelings obviously shone through in her heart-wrenching eulogy to him after his death.
Thought the same exact thing.
Took them as a couple, quite a while to understand that the initial love they had was still there. Truly their business but it is Cher and Sonny and we got to share in their acceptance of the love they had for each other. Frankly,
once you have a child with a man that bond is still there after a divorce and life goes on. Only exception becomes if the Dad does not do right by the child and deal with his kid with love. Sonny did that. At the end game they knew that idea and I think Cher truly mourned his passing.
Life is complicated and you can't explain it with one "sit down" with someone. who is a stranger like Dave was to Cher,
. even if you are Cher.
They had lots of up and downs after the divorce.
Her movie suspect is a classic, I never get tired to see it.
its amazing how in 10 minutes, she goes from arms crossed and all the way on the left side of the chair to relaxed and spread out
Good body language analysis.
Yep, on the defensive from the get-go--Cher, not Dave.
she was just fishing for a brand new insult
They had FABULOUS CHEMISTRY...😅
Huh!" You're probably right...XD @@mpup54
Cher is amazing. She's an all around entertainer, like Dean Martin was.
She was gorgeous back then.
Even so, it's cool to see the start of a friendship that would grow and last for years.
Cher is truly one of a kind. Class. Sexuality. Humor. Elegance. Roughness. Talent. Theres nothing she doesnt embody. Legend. Huge crush for some of us 80’s product.
Dave is always the best in a hostile situation.
Yep. Remember his interviews with Madonna too.
And Harvey Pekar.
I am a African/ Liberian. I love this lady since I was a kid. When I go to the movies on Saturdays it was her song that was play before the show. I love you Cher. Happy Birthday and wish you all the best.
Hahahahaha! I forgot how funny this segment was. Cher and Dave are just so cute. 1986...it was a little different world.
LOL!! I thought I'd pass out from laughter when David brought out the cigar. 😎
I remember watching this! I thought it would have been funny if Cher had been in the final Top 10 as #1 and said after all these years I still think you are an as----.😅
That is absolutely perfect. I wonder if they thought about it. Man. I'm gonna be laughing about that for a few days.(
@@TK0_23_ Especially if it hadn't been announced that she was going to be on the show and she only appeared when they said #1🙂
She's amazing! So is Dave.
I love how Cher was so honest about how she felt about David Letterman I've always felt the same way
One word:ADORABLE
Regardless of How Many Comments Are Saying He Was Great at Handling It... He Was Bothered and Didnt Let It Go. Even Though His Comments Were In "fun" He Didnt Like It. Cher Always Incredible and Out Spoken.
When this aired I started B/E/E in RTC/NTC SanDiego... They were concluding the original filming of Top Gun... We were all so young, and had a clue about all things whole. What a different time.
I want to say, I don't care for David Letterman, but this interview has me sold on his talent, clearly Cher thought way too much of herself and he brings her down to our level and makes it entertaining... a magician and his craft.
An absolutely fantastic woman all the way around.
Great interview. I've always thought Cher was beautiful, seeing this video I was memorized on how beautiful she is. Her voice her face and her actions put it over the top for me.
Cher was a real star btw. You can tell by her demeanor, and certainly was the biggest breakout of any female back in the day. She's done practically everything in entertainment. Not sure if she directed anything.
She directed "If These Walls Could Talk" (1996).
Correction, she is a real star, not was.
Just when I think Cher couldn't look lovelier than she does now in 2023, I'm watching this clip and wow -wasn't she gorgeous in 1986? Always beautiful and so talented.
"I'm not crazy about the alternative."
She's brilliant. ❤️
Holy smokes, where did 36 years go?😏😏
I kno, right? My daughter turned 46 yrs old three days ago!!
Born in 58, adopted in 1963. An emotional stunted cruel human being until he passed in 2017. This man often angry would shame me by calling me "halfbreed".
As a child, when I first heard Cher's song, "Half Breed", I found my strength, courage and purpose.
Thank you, sweet lady, truly an ICON.
Great channel❤
.
Her laugh is everything
Dave is smitten and it’s hilarious.
I love Cher! She was great on Letterman's show!
letterman looks like how i feel on a first date
When I was taking singing lessons in my 20s my teacher had me sing Gypsies tramps and Theives to increase my range. I loved it and sang it well. Always loved Cher! Still do
Love and total respect I had a ticket to see you in Cardiff your last tour I wasn't well enough. So gutted I got as far as outside the stadium the day before gutted. Amazing talent sxx bravo Juliett
I love her little laugh
I always thought Cher was attractive, but she looked so naturally stunning. Her honesty is what threw Letterman, she answered the question honestly. For someone who has done a lot, she was extremely grounded and humble. His ego was showing in the introduction, feeling shunned and realistically it felt like he was putting her down from the get-go. Even his questions showed a lot of negativity. Getting Booed, kind of like Trolls wading in on an internet discussion. Cher came out way on top in my book.
She’s as real as it gets
Looks more like plastic to me...
@@jimibmoreThis is pre surgery. She was still young and no, she does not look plastic here. 🙄
...an historic moment in live television, beautifully honest both of you - kudos. Thank-you.
4:23 is what you're here for.
