Well, thing about Ventus and Roxas is... we know EVERYTHING about them, pretty much. 358/2 Days was literally Roxas' entire life right there. Birth By Sleep explained who Ventus was and why he went to Sora. Truth be told, it still doesn't make sense why Sora is so special. Yes, how Roxas and Namine were created from him, and how Sora can dual wield as well are explained, but why exactly is he ultimately the hero that will open the door to end everyone's hurt? Why was it that right after he was born, his heart could somehow make contact and restore Ventus' heart after it was damaged? I'm hoping that we learn more. And Sora's had development himself as well. In DDD, he literally took all of Roxas's memories after Roxas gave it to him, and still he endured it and remained how he was, but somehow stronger in a sense, or his resolve was stronger. Only thing is, we don't see Sora actively showing the suffering he goes through often enough, so we compare him to Roxas and Ventus, who have gone through pain and torment that we know about.

This is probably the most underrated scene when it comes to Kingdom Hearts How come no one whose into Kingdom Hearts talks about this This really does add more character to both Roxas and Sora Sora knowing how important pain is, to really understand what a person is going through Roxas knowing that pain, actually teaches Sora about it so that way he'll understand people better Its such an important scene for this reason
+Undoubtedly Bendy He does, just not onscreen. Or at least we can assume that he does, since Mickey promised he would tell the real Sora and we don't expect Mickey to break a promise. It's also important to note that Roxas teaching Sora about this pain is highly ironic, for a Nobody who is convinced he doesn't have emotions (much less, a data copy of a Nobody who is convinced he doesn't have emotions).
It also doesn't help that sora doesn't ever act like he knows what people are going through. He just says stuff about his friends and magically cheers everyone up. I'm pretty sure cloud would fucking hate sora yet they make it seem like he likes him.
He couldn't remember Xion because everyone's memory of her disappeared as soon as Roxas defeated her and she vanished back into Sora's memories of Kairi
What really annoys me about this game is how much character development there is, but not at the same time. This is something the real Sora and Roxas can't share and bond over. Data Sora, who has the most character development and seeing and understanding people and feelings, doesn't even matter in the grand scheme of things. It's pure story telling for the player, and only wishing this was the Real Sora experiencing this! You can argue that this issue is somewhat settled in Dream Drop Distance, but I really wish he got the character development Data Sora got.
SmithSmithery The game's story does mean something, it's just the character development doesn't mean a whole lot. Data Sora had to have character development in order to access information that leads to Master Yen Sid needing to test Sora for the Mark of Mastery to see if really is ready to handle all that burden. It was also to tell players, even if Sora forgets, his heart will always remember which ends up staying true in DDD.
I just want Data-Sora back in the future, maybe in a new form that resembles Sora's KH2 Outfit but still retained elements of his original KH1 Design (Maybe he's just always in KH2 Limit Form).
Roxas begs Sora to finish him off and finally put an end to the hurt that he's been suffering for so long. When Sora doesn't, he bitterly concedes that there's no point in destroying him, using his existence within the datascape as an allusion to his existence as a Nobody; someone that doesn't and shouldn't even exist.
Players: this story was pointless because the real Sora was never connected to the data one's experiences. Mickey: [EFF] you, I just broke my fingers writing the whole thing to tell him all about it!
@@Dreq458 You're right. Aside from the demonstration that data can become part of a heart (an additional hint to the true nature of Nobodies and a crucial step in saving the likes of Roxas), mentioning that people return when their Heartless are destroyed (do I even have to say what this led to?), directly linking the painful events of the past to the present (because that's WHY the whole Sleeping Worlds trip happened), this game's story gave us absolutely nothing.
@@xanethedarkwerehog Except the small guy from the land of dragons in kh2, he literally got punched because he asked what his problem was, though later he gained his respect.
@@xanethedarkwerehog True, but he also gained his respect by the end, Sora seems to do that, even with the most hard headed people he meets, like the King from Atlantica. I guess Sora is just that good at earning respect where respect is due, even if that person is a violent or very untrusting personality.
Interesting that Data Sora, the most "fake" Sora of all, was able to keep his heart from falling to darkness from all this, while the real Sora failed when faced with the same heartache.
3 years later, I know. But I think it's perfect. It shows how he's the strongest Light magic user in the series because only those with a pure and balanced heart can use it to that extent. So that means people like Ventus, Xion and Sora, maybe Kairi. Even Mickey, Minnie, Yen Sid or Merlin haven't used magic hour like this. They're powerful in other ways, sure. But they lack the heart to use Light abilities like this. Keep in mind this still is Roxas holding back a bit. He could potentially combine his limit break from kh2fM and in Days for another ultimate Light attack.
George Washington so a voice actor determines how much credit you give a character? And no, he hasnt beat riku multiple times. They fought once, and when riku held back his darkness (his stronger side), he got the better of him. Once riku let loose and released it, he stomped him. Also, sora and roxas are near the bottom of the totem pole of keyblade users. Bbs characters are all better and riku and Mickey as well. And before you say sora beat all the main baddies, he didnt do it alone. If it wasnt for riku in 2, he would have died many times over. And when has roxas fought any XIII member other than xion (if that counts) and axel? I like roxas but no need to put him up on a pedestal higher than he should be.
wow, jesse mccartney's voice work in this particular scene incredible, especially the 'its way past time you learned what real hurt feels like' line. he's shaped up to be the absolute best voice actor in the series by far.
Hes playing the role of guiding the data sora to namine as a test. Though the real hurt might be a bit of projection from forgetting xion@arikatheprincessofhearts2043
+Aidan Keogh When I explain it to non fans I just say Xehanort is using a combination of time travel, possession, and a variety of chosen ones to become omnipotent. I don't even bother explaining Roxas, Xion and the replica program, the first organization 13, Xehanorts heartless being a possessed Terra heartless who stole the identity from the real Ansem who is a benevolent king of Hollow Bastian formerly named Radiant Garden, Sora being a "safety net" chosen one pending Riku's choice who has since built up a resistance to darkness and could at one point transform into Terra-Xehanorts heartless Ansem, and how Nobody's can get a heart back, and how Namine was a hybrid nobody of Sora and Kairi who could manipulate their memories. And wait until I tell you about Ventus... Basically this is a series of a million details.
Absolutely love Roxas, easily my favorite character of the series. Such a tragic but memorable character. He inspires me to always never lose sight of who I really am, no matter how confused or lost I may become.

+johnathan carr I am not to experienced; I have only played 358/2 days and part of recoded. From what I have seen from the kh2 fight, it looks to me like Roxas is stronger. Kinda just want to start an educated discussion instead of people shouting their opinions.
+Aias Adams I go off of the amount of things Sora has done, along with the fact Roxas would be as strong as sora was in Kh ( naturally) then you add his own feats he is incredibly powerful. Sora is stronger than he used to be by the end of KH2 Its fair to say he would likely be stronger. Not gameplay wise cause obviously you are the player. If we just use game cannon sora has beaten Roxas, Roxas had nothing to gain by holding back against him in recoded or KH2. Don't mean to rant but that's just how I see it, I like Riku the most but it's fair to say he is under Roxas and sora .
@@adamlong6711 i don’t really care for him that much either. I liked him until he came back. I think he should have stayed gone. Thats just me i guess thiugh
I understand how complex and how great Roxas was written. But Sora made a very great point about despite the pain, he can at least learn something from that pain. Making him just as greatly written as Roxas. It may not be much, but it’s definitely a good thing to look on to. This is why Sora is one of the best characters and like-able ones. Not many people see it though. Sadly, none of this is real, since this is just coded data or whatever. Its not the Real Sora nor Roxas.
2:10 I've never played this game, but that line still gives me chills, and actually kinda hurts me; but it hurts in a good way. I know that sounds weird, but I don't know how else too explain it.
Man it's so irritating when people just phase inside of you and set up shop in your heart. They don't pay rent, never clean after themselves and they always spout nonsense about darkness or whatever. So Sora has like 4 people in his heart eating his food and using up his hot water?
I remember the absolute feeling of triumph when I finally beat Roxas as a kid. This was such a challenging fight and it took so long, but in the end it was worth it.
Ultimak Same here until I felt like that Kid Sora's voice was Sora when he was 14 and IMO he sounded more like he was 10 or 11. When Haley voiced Sora again, the character was 15. Sure, it's weird that we're hearing KH2 Sora in the model of KH1 Sora in Re:COM, Re:C and 3D but in a way he sounds more like a teen IMO.
This is what gets me about KH3, moments like this were prevalent leading up to it. Nomura digged the knife so deep. -learning about xion -learning about what happened to terra aqua and ventus -roxas being the final boss of Recoded -dark ventus being the final boss of DDD -seeing roxas and xion again in DDD You felt so bad for these characters and just wanted to save them. Then the third game comes around and you can do just that. But the way it does it is so unsatisfying. Like I got them back, but I wish I had worked a little harder at it or gotten them back gradually vs all at once.
You can tell Luxu is just waiting for an opportunity by the way he reacts when the young Xehanort says the ancient keyblade that his master of masters once owned I believe.
This scene meant so much to me the first time I saw it...only a year ago, around this time. I'd just lost a close companion...and then another close one was on their way shortly after... I was experiencing a ton of emotional and mental pain at the time, and all at once...but after watching this scene, something clicked in me...a lot of times when someone is grieving, they'll try to dismiss the pain, or try to forget the incidents/loss that's occurred, or the individuals entirely. They'll try to put it all behind them, wipe their own memories, because the hurt is too severe to acknowledge/handle...sometimes, that can break a person, and put them in a very dark place...but I needed this scene...it helped me remember that trying to forget the pain, or letting it throw you into darkness isn't the way...pain is a part of loving someone. Losing them is tragic, but it's best to hold onto your memories of loved ones after, than trying to sweep them under a mental rug entirely. It's better just to feel, grieve, and eventually accept the hurt...because it's better to have loved and lost, than to have never loved at all...I still deeply cherish the memories of those who are gone, because they are a part of me...and my memories keep them alive in my head. They were worth the pain of loss in the end. And remembering that after watching this scene was just what I needed to prevent me shelving my emotions away at the time, running away from them, and trying to become "numb" or "dismissive" of them. Plus, as Sora's interaction with Roxas at the end pointed out, the pain and experiences can become useful in empathizing and helping others who are going through the same things...That's the main reason (among others) that Re:Coded is my favourite Kingdom Hearts game!...I love anything that can teach me!
Yooooooo, (Kh3 spoilers ahead) Did you see how Braig/Luxu squinted his eyes when they were talking about the MoM keyblade? Totally an early hint Braig was connected somehow.
Not true, tho they're "the same person" they still have different body's. I'm the same age as a friend of mine yet I'm way taller then him. it's normal :P, not trying to chew your out or anything ^-^
So I've played through kh 3 now and I still think that this was the best synchronization performance in the series, Jesse McCartney is just incredible I can't
Y’all are talking about how it says “mystery opponent” when we know who it is, but it reminds me of when Roxas has to defeat the “mystery man” that *definitely* isn’t Riku with a bandanna.
Roxas is truly one of the best characters in the series. His story feels so lonely, and we really feel it. Can't wait to see him come back in Kingdom Hearts 3
I'm a huge KH fan but not a fanboy, but I definitely think Roxas is one of the best characters in the series. I don't think anything depressed me in this series more than his opening in KH2.
THIS is the closure we need for the relationship between Roxas and Sora. I was always uncomfortable with how Roxas wasn't chosen to continue the fight, but watching this scene in addition to Dream Drop Distance was a nice closure.
I still hope we get to see him again, tho. I'd choose him over Sora any day, mainly cos he can dual wield, and I love his keyblades, both the design and the backstory.
Jessie McCartney's voice acting has improved so much since KH2. I mean his voice acting was great before, but gosh damn you can really hear the emotion in 2:10
I'm not gonna lie. I hate the fact this series doesn't know that the word *PAIN* is a thing and doesn't just use that, because using hurt the way they do drives me up a goddamn wall.
I still find it so weird that the guy I've associated as just one of the Disney pretty boys as a kid not only voices my favorite character in the series, but also has the best performance. Seriously, Jesse McCartney really knows how to strut his stuff, when acting as Roxas (and also Ven).
The best thing of the DS version is that you only learn that it's Roxas in this scene, because since the game's not voice acted you never hear him talk, which makes the entire build-up to this fight absolutely astounding. But then again, Jesse McCartney outdid himself here, so there's no way in hell I'm complaining XD.
Every time I read Roxas's lines in Re:coded I imagined him with a sarcastic, taunting sort of tone. I guess a lot of it comes from the little things he says, but I was pretty surprised by the anger he displayed...even if it is Roxas, just because it was so different from my vision.

Sad Part is....If only the original Sora could have been the one to say this to Roxas and understand the pain. Luckily DDD sorta takes care of this.

"What are you talking about? I am ME! Nobody else!"
Man, Roxas was so much more edgy in this game
It's not really roxas though, it's just a data copy created to test Data Sora
King Arthur Good point.
man, Data Roxas was so edgy in this game
joe velez he just had a glitch in his program. Emo.exe
Because he's bitter. He died exactly one year after he was born, he forgot his best friend, and will never be ABLE to remember her
probably because he has a lot of pain in his heart.
No one else.......really Picked up on the
"Theres no point in destroying something that never existed"
I just saw something that never actually was ment to exist cry out
I didn't notice that, I guess it's a reference to his real self.
I can literally feel Roxas' pain with every word of him....brings me to tears...
Same, such a great character.
+Adrian “Fahri” Fahrenheit I feel that same pain, knowing that Kingdom Hearts 3 wont be released until 2017 :(
+General Jimmies 2017?! fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck!!
+Adrian “Fahri” Fahrenheit It's even worse in KH2 Final Mix
same here
This is probably the most underrated scene when it comes to Kingdom Hearts
How come no one whose into Kingdom Hearts talks about this
This really does add more character to both Roxas and Sora
Sora knowing how important pain is, to really understand what a person is going through
Roxas knowing that pain, actually teaches Sora about it so that way he'll understand people better
Its such an important scene for this reason
Probably cause it's not the real versions interacting
+WrenchNinja True, but I think Mickey tells the real Sora about the datascape.
I'm pretty sure cloud would fucking hate sora yet they make it seem like he likes him.
there are just so many great scenes in this franchise.
"What real hurt feels like" I bet he was talking about losing Xion.
Joe Moon and everything else that happened to him?
Who?
He couldn't remember Xion because everyone's memory of her disappeared as soon as Roxas defeated her and she vanished back into Sora's memories of Kairi
Wait who's this "Xion" you speak of?
Lil Mopbucket look up Roxas story if you don’t know
Roxas's voice in English version sound more aggressive but Japanese version sound like he almost cry. I think I like the both of them.
Same here!
"Congratulations Sora you passed, you now understand hurt."
That sounded so sarcastic and I don't know why.
Right? This seriously should have been real Sora drifting through his memories or something. This entire game's story matters for nothing.
MrGameplay1001 c
MrGameplay ,
Yeah, this scene is amazing!! I wish this were the real Sora & Roxas...
Roxas has PTSD and depression
Players: this story was pointless because the real Sora was never connected to the data one's experiences.
Mickey: [EFF] you, I just broke my fingers writing the whole thing to tell him all about it!
LMAO
If nothing else, this game did give us some hits and info for Kingdom Hearts 3.
@@galenmalen3900 not really, no
@@Dreq458 You're right.
Well, atleast arguably we could technically play as Data-Sora in KH3 ...
I like how Roxas is just like, "Fuck, I can't hate this kid, screw this shit." :)

@@xanethedarkwerehog True, but he also gained his respect by the end, Sora seems to do that, even with the most hard headed people he meets, like the King from Atlantica. Sora was so tiny back then, it makes Roxas look like a giant.
+GameMasterKyro XD ikr
Because data sora has the same body as kh 1 sora
Yes, that was the point I was making.
GameMasterKyro he looks 8 instead of 14
GameMasterKyro sora is like 5’2 in kh1
That's Roxas' same exact limit break ability from 358/2 days. Literally terrible for 1v1
They could have just gone with his normal limit break, not the dual wield one, and it would have been better.
@@wakewind4129 that just sounds like a lot of roxas wanking to me lol
I like roxas but no need to put him up on a pedestal higher than he should be.
skaionex he fought Saix for sure when he left the organization. I can’t remember if he fought anyone else. But he definitely beat Saix
wow, jesse mccartney's voice work in this particular scene incredible, especially the 'its way past time you learned what real hurt feels like' line. he's shaped up to be the absolute best voice actor in the series by far.
Is Roxas evil in this game or he has PTSD?
Hes playing the role of guiding the data sora to namine as a test. Though the real hurt might be a bit of projection from forgetting xion@arikatheprincessofhearts2043

+Aidan Keogh Yes.I know how ya feel.
+Aidan Keogh so this is what ven and roxas felt when they regained their lost memories.
***** lol xD
That was literally my reaction when I finally understood the Kingdom Hearts lore.

I've always said sora was stronger I would think he would be 🙄
+johnathan carr I am not to experienced; I have only played 358/2 days and part of recoded.
Axel: Let's eat some ice-cream, we are best friends.

Ultimak Same here until I felt like that Kid Sora's voice was Sora when he was 14 and IMO he sounded more like he was 10 or 11. When Haley voiced Sora again, the character was 15. -roxas being the final boss of Recoded
-dark ventus being the final boss of DDD

You felt so bad for these characters and just wanted to save them. Then the third game comes around and you can do just that. But the way it does it is so unsatisfying. Like I got them back, but I wish I had worked a little harder at it or gotten them back gradually vs all at once.
Yeah I do agree with your last point a lot, I felt that it was so rushed and left to the end of the game.

@@hajimemehinata8171 good question
This scene meant so much to me the first time I saw it...only a year ago, around this time.
I'd just lost a close companion...and then another close one was on their way shortly after...
I was experiencing a ton of emotional and mental pain at the time, and all at once...but after watching
this scene, something clicked in me...a lot of times when someone is grieving, they'll try to dismiss the pain,
or try to forget the incidents/loss that's occurred, or the individuals entirely. They'll try to put it all behind them,
wipe their own memories, because the hurt is too severe to acknowledge/handle...sometimes, that can break
a person, and put them in a very dark place...but I needed this scene...it helped me remember that trying to forget the pain,
or letting it throw you into darkness isn't the way...pain is a part of loving someone. Losing them
is tragic, but it's best to hold onto your memories of loved ones after, than trying to sweep them under
a mental rug entirely. It's better just to feel, grieve, and eventually accept the hurt...because it's better
to have loved and lost, than to have never loved at all...I still deeply cherish the memories of those who are gone,
because they are a part of me...and my memories keep them alive in my head.

I'm a huge KH fan but not a fanboy, but I definitely think Roxas is one of the best characters in the series. I don't think anything depressed me in this series more than his opening in KH2.
Seeing Braig's eyes (excuse me, eye) when Young Xehanort mentions Master Xehanort's keyblade, now that we know who he is, takes on a whole new meaning

THIS is the closure we need for the relationship between Roxas and Sora. I was always uncomfortable with how Roxas wasn't chosen to continue the fight, but watching this scene in addition to Dream Drop Distance was a nice closure.
Shame that this isn't the real Roxas LOL
I still hope we get to see him again, tho. I'd choose him over Sora any day, mainly cos he can dual wield, and I love his keyblades, both the design and the backstory.

You do have a good point!
