I just purchased this camera for my trip to stockholm, and that first tip allready is such a lifesaver. Imagine I didn't know it when I left. THankyou kind sir!
I just got my H35 a few weeks ago and am so excited to see the first results. But wow, shooting 72 pictures really takes a while (luckily of course). So I'm super grateful for all related videos that you post. Thank you for your great content and amazingly produced videos ☺️
Thanks for all the useful info. One little trick worth mentioning also is that activating the flash also changes the aperture from f11 to f8! so you'll get a brighter shot even if the flash doesn't reach your subject
I rarely comment to videos but i just binge-watched your videos about the ektar 35 and kudos to how articulate and friendly your approach is! Thank you so much for sharing your love for film with the world! Love from the Philippines! 🇵🇭
thank you for this, i got my h35 last year and i only saw a few tutorials about this model. I’ll be travelling soon and seeing this video was very timely. cant wait to start shooting again. thank you, 😊
This was so helpful! This camera is my intro to film. I just got my first roll developed and had soooo many dark indoor shots. Looking forward to seeing how my next roll comes out!!!!
Chiming in as a film photography old-timer here. Many people in my camp might be thinking half frame what's that? Some newfangled gen z idea?? As a reminder half frame start of its life way back in the 60s with the Olympus pen. And as far as resolution of the half frame goes. It is going to be about the same size as the old 110 film. So if you got a decent picture out of that you will probably get a decent picture out of the half-frame 35.
I’m buying this for my sister who loves to travel and I cannot wait to see what she captures! I do t like taking photos in this day and age because let’s face it, everyone does it overkill. I miss flipping through photo albums and taking pictures with a click of a disposable camera and hoping for the best when you wait for it to be developed at the store 😂 I loved the feeling of looking at them and thinking wow that was way off target 😂 can’t wait to see this camera I’ve just ordered it ❤
I am new at photography, I didn’t feel I had the « legitimacy » of trying film photo. But your video convinced me otherwise ❤ my camera and some film arrive tomorrow 🎉
I like these little P&S cameras that are coming out. Especially when they make a big wave like some of these cheap P&S cameras have. A different video on this camera caught my interest, and I'm now waiting on a little 1970s rangefinder to land next week. It was about half the price of a Kodak H35N is right now and having a proper glass lens with filter threading on it got me good. Thanks for the video, very informative. EDIT: Lomography deserves a big up for their "reusable disposable" cameras that come pre-loaded with film but have the option of replacing it once the original roll is done. I think these H35 cameras would have a better lens (looks like it might have UV filtering?) than that but they're also about 3x the price of the Lomo one.
Man, I've been flirting with shooting film for a bit and have quickly learned that it's a privilege to do so. I live in a rural area where the only place within 60mins to get film developed is Walmart - something I didn't want to do in the first place. Not sure if the hobby is worth the investment and time for me, unfortunately.
dang sorry to hear that! I know there's some film labs that take shipments of your film, but that definitely adds to the price :( I hope you're able to dip your toes into film one day!
12:32 What ISO film did you use for those perfectly exposed shots? I am buying this camera for a quick trip on the weekend lol, just don't want to run through 1-2 reel and have it come out overexposed or underexposed lol, seems like a 400 but lemme know.
Great content made me buy mine. Just to make sure, you need to move the wheel every shoot but is a half, yes? And the counter will display until 72, correct ? Gracias
I recommend using the flash more than you think you need to, plus the sun will overpower the flash if it doesn’t need it, so it can’t hurt using it every time! Just practice and feel it out :)
@@Anjroo ok, do how does it know what iso film is inside? Maybe my question is silly but I just need to know haha. I already have mine Ektar h35 and I’ve noticed that the flash diode doesn’t work even if the battery is inside. The flash works, but the diode doesn’t say when it is ready for work. Is it normal?
Great video! Just got the H35N, new to film photography. I have ISO 100 and 400 film at home but worried about the photos coming out too dark/light... thoughts? Not keen on shelling out more $ for something like ISO 200 in the middle, but will if necessary.
Hi! Great questions, Film performs better with overexposure than it does with under exposure, so you actually have better odds of “saving” a pic in editing if it’s too bright :) so you’ll be just fine!
thanks man!! this is so informative ◡̈ got mine today and I was wondering if it’s okay to leave unloaded film inside after taking a picture and then just load it once you’re ready to use it again? i don’t know if my question makes a lot of sense 😂 but thanks anyway man!!
Haha sorry I have no idea what you’re asking, okay so “load/unload” means completely removing the canister out of the camera. Or do you mean “wind” as in winding up the next shot to be taken? If load: then don’t take out the canister until it’s completely used up/if you for some reason wanted to end the roll early If you meant wind up: Only wind up when right before you take a picture :) Hopefully one of those answers your question 😂
Hopefully you've got this handled, but if not: you leave a roll of film inside at all times, without opening the back until *after* you've wound the completed roll of film back into the canister it comes in. Opening the back without doing that will ruin all of the photos you've taken from light exposure.
Hey man! Thanks a lot for the video. I'm really excited to try out this type of camera. I have a quick question: I want a camera like this but with a self-timer (whenever I go out with my girlfriend, we only have pictures of each other, not together). Do you have any recommendations? I don't have much experience and just want an everyday carry, point-and-shoot camera like the one you showed.
I've just sent my first film away and been told it is totally empty, the film has nothing on it. How could this have happened? Could it be the camera itself or my error?
OH NOOOOO. So sorry that happened! The most common reason for a blank roll is not loading it correctly, so the film never got exposed in the first place, or the opposite, it was entirely exposed to light :(
Mine came earlier! Excited to use and shoot photos with it. Anw, question is if I buy 27exp film and will detach/unload it from the camera, since it's a half camera, should I also rewind it twice the amount of the exposure? Or same as it is? Feels like a nonsense question but can't help to still ask anyway. 😅
Hi! This video was so helpful, I did have one question though. After some research and personal experience, the H35N can have issues with the flash. Sometimes after switching the settings to activate the flash, it wouldn’t turn on. Do you have any advice? :)
Why do your half frame fotos look better and sharper than my full frame fotos with my canon eos 1000F? Is it generally normal that scanned fotos look quite grainy?
Hm, maybe it’s the film you’re using? Or perhaps try looking into a different lab? I’m not doing anything significant or unique with most of these pics! Sorry hope that’s helpful in some way 🙈
@@Anjroo Perhaps. I used Kodak Gold and Ultramaxx so far. Switching the stock lens to a Canon EF 50mm 1.8 improved quality a bit. Ordered some rolls of Ektar 100. Perhaps that will be better. Or something is wrong with the camera. Picked it up on ebay after all :D Thanks for the reply
Can you dismantle it and remove the built in lens and expose the sensor and modify it to accept the c/cs mout lenses to see if this "toy" could be any usable...and seeing its limits.... will get better quality images/video than. The current potato pics/vids
If they are confused they should swap industries 😂 it could be helpful to mention it tho, the developing process is the exact same, but the scanning will differ a little
If the lab gives you issues with half frame they are not a good lab to use! The dev process is the same, and when scanning they can simply scan two images in one. It’s the same exact amount of labor as a normal 35mm, so they shouldn’t give you any grief :)

Yes very good call out! I wish I knew that when I made the video!! Really neat when you need that extra 1 stop of light 🥰
So, maybe it is a good idea to put the flash but cover it? To get the lower f?

Great video as always man. thank you! anybody got tips on how to maximize getting the right shot since the viewfinder does not seem to help? 😅
Haha it’s still useable, just not the most accurate 😂 and if anything pressing it to your face will at least stabilize it a bit

@@Anjroo hi again, I have another question, does this camera have any iso reader?
Nope!
It’s got zero electronic components (only flash) so it’s basically just a plastic box with locked in settings!

Sadly most of these cheaper types of point and shoots don’t have self timers :(
It really just depends on the camera model!

Same as is! :) it’s consuming the usual amount of real estate on film so it’s the same!

My flash maybe works half of the time even when the red light is on and a full battery, anyone know why?
I’m having this issue, too. It’s every other time I’ve shot with it so I thought it might’ve dealt with the half frame which is how I ended up here😂

does counter in h35 is already 72? because most camera counter is max on 36exp.
Yes the counter goes up to 72 to account for this :)
