I think clogging is the wrong word. What I’ve seen happen is customers fail to wash their cars regularly and they allow contaminants and minerals to bond to their paint covering the coating. I use an acidic wash, CarPro Descale, to remove the minerals sitting on top of the paint. That usually brings the coating back. I have seen coatings fail but that’s when someone just doesn’t maintain their vehicle at all and I mean not washing their car at all despite being warned that it could reduce the life of the coating.
food for thought, since actual ceramic coatings are supposed to chemically bond with the paint, they shouldnt fail at all. maybe wear down over the years, but should never fail. of course thats if we are to trust what the manufacturers tell us.
You’re 100% right. From that we can assume some coatings don’t actually bond to the paint, which is why we get premature (according to their claims) failure
Great video my friend. I will agree with the “clogging” possibility though. I’ve experienced it with my own cars. I have a few months before the weather gets good enough to try it. Worse case scenario is it fails, I get a refund, and I install what I originally had planned on. All valid points Jimbo!
I would say to still install it, its easy to do and you can always top it for the time being if it starts to not bead water. just dont have high expectations. haha

" truck got caught in the rain then i put it in the garage. i just knew it would have water spots on it the next day. nothing. looked like i just washed it! it was perfect. so far so good!
I think you may have upset a few in the detailing world with the last video jimbo ! The main thing in my opinion is that the ceramic coating works and after it has it's normal wash it still beads and repels water and if it does then i would apply a top up spay simply to get a better shine and and to look more glossy . My own car i have carpro cquart 3 and i use carpro reload afterwards and it does really enhance the shine and look . I am yet to use the one in your video but i will in the new year and hopefully get some great results as back here in the UK it pisses it down nearly every week lol .
Thought there was nothing wrong with the last video. The coating on the right was getting the same treatment and was doing fine. Just a bunch of whiners out there. If the previous coating was good it would have withstood the torture. Another good video although I don't think it was really necessary like I said above. The other coating took the torture with no problems.
Not so much to do with the video, but a lot of people say water beading doesn’t mean protection has failed if the panel stops beading or sheeting, so how can it protect against the outdoor dirts etc if it can’t repel water? Genuine question what I don’t understand.
that is right sometimes, but honestly if the water beading is gone you can be sure that the protection isnt far behind. The water beading going away is usually the first way to tell the protection is starting to fail. It is possible for the protection to still be on the surface and the water not be beading water. But how you tell how much and if the protection is still there is extremely hard to tell, if not impossible, hence why we all use water beading and behavior as a sign of if the protectant is there or not.
Everyone hawking alkaline snow foams but thinks this isn’t a valid test. 😂. It’s accelerated, that’s all. Especially for wheel coatings. Can’t pimp Brake Buster, GS, or any other alkaline wheel cleaner / APC every video and expect people to not use them. I don’t use alkaline chemicals on coated cars except in rare cases. CarPro Reset and an acid wash are enough for 99% of maintenance washes.
I'm totally confused. Can you briefly explain what is going on? From the comments, it appears you tested a cerakote product that performed poorly, and had to delete the video because of threats from the company. But why all the secrecy around the products used in this test?
6:00. Exactly, who has the “real world.” Eg is something good for 5 years? Dunno, come back in 5 years. Accelerated wear tests only approximate the “real” world. The testing like this video achieves consistency to allow us to make informed decisions. Thank you for running the tests

Would your spray be compatible as a topper for the new more robust coating or is that not recommended?
Let’s face it most good cleaners for winter wash’s need a bit higher ph the glass bottle coating’s should be able to take a few good hits even a touch less tunnel washes have a high ph. In my world it has to take that hit a bunch of times.

Sure wish these products were available now. Polishing my car next week and looking for a durable spray or wipe coating. Anything you could recommend in the meantime?
Your results are real world and totally duplicate my results. I actually called the manufacturer to find out what pH range is protected by their coating and the tech team told 6 to 7. That's why I apply the coatings I do for my clients which protects pH 1 to 15. Which coating in your experience actually has a 5 yr plus durability?
so just to be clear - you applied Cerakote and it didn't last? Asking because people are quick to hate on the torture test, but as I think you point out, they are more realistic than people think.
@@autodetailingpodcastHi, my point was that what I am seeing is a low beading finish compared to the six coatings that I use. In a matter of four weeks of real world washings it is night and day compared to my coatings. It is still slick and actually is a sheeter but it just doesn't compare to products I use. Now that I know the P H limitations I brief people that the product is designed for people who wash their vehicles at home with a pH neutral soap. It is not designed for tunnel car washes that use high pH soaps. So, for me it is a good topper or for clients who don't want to pay for the professional level coatings. I'll will watch these cars since they are each on a qtrly wash maintenance plan. I also coated half of my wife's hood 😊with each product. I wash that car weekly or twice a week with a Rinseless wash.
Gotcha. Most people, like you’re seeing are getting about 4 weeks out of the product which is obviously terrible for a wipe on ceramic. Thanks for the info. It helps a lot of people out, Cerakote claims it’s an inexpensive coating but really it’s just an expensive wax. Haha.

@@autodetailingpodcast Thank you for the response. Just a bit confused, but I thought the unreleased coating was the one next to the far right. Are they both unreleased?
For clogging resistance you want a coating that is omniphobic meaning it has oleophobicity as well as hydrophobicity. Not a lot of discussion on it but I chose Mohs Evo for my daily because the fluro-modified resin should give it good performance in those areas.
Because as stated in the video, a spray wax will serve a different purpose as a spray ceramic. My goal is to make each product the best thing in that category. For example the main purpose of a spray wax isn’t long term protection but rather gloss, slickness, ease of use. Most spray waxes will only last a couple weeks at best. So my job is to make all those as good as possible and add a little more durable, maybe make it last 2 months. Adding durability takes away from something else. So if you want more durable you step up to a spray ceramic. There is a give a take with every product so you just have to decide what your top features are you want and pick a product accordingly. Does that make sense?
@@autodetailingpodcast Oh I followed exactly what you were saying, as I watched your Cerakote video and saw what happened. Was just laughing at the comment you made is all. I support your channel and my comment actually made your video.
This was such a bad video, your tests is unrealistic, sure it's giving us some information and your opinion is "a ceramic coating should survive a torture test" but when or why would I ever put an acid or wash my car with a high ph shampoo if I do t want to strip the ceramic coating, when people say real world test, they are talking using daily driven vehicles that's been exposed to the elements in their environment, there's no one definitive environment.
@@autodetailingpodcast Thats not what i said at all. Just because it doesn't survive your torture test doesn't mean its not a good ceramic coating, as far as i'm aware you aren't a chemist and don't know how their product was formulated, so the formulation may be weak against these products that are meant STRIP/DAMAGE ceramic coatings to remove them, these are products they say to never let them come into contact with your paint! lol but the brand never made claims about it resisting harsh chemicals, if we're testing their claims why don't we recreate their tests and see if we get the same results?? not "torture" it and base on when it is no longer showing great results call it a bad product.

What i would had add as a stress test would had been IPA, Tar&Glue, screen wash wiper alcohol based or sap remover.
Jimbo I only ask one thing of you. Please replace that leaky spray nozzle. That is all, carry on with the good content.
Haha! I hear ya. Will do

gyeon mohs evo drop off is shocking . failing at 9 months on my personal car was disgraceful
Apparently there’s a lot of bad ceramics.
@@autodetailingpodcast gyeon mohs evo , gtechniq csl are 2 of the biggest load of garbage ive ever used . Real world results are shocking yet many make out there a game changer 💩
All I can say is I feel like I may have been duped into the cerakote coating. I haven’t installed it yet and I am a little apprehensive. I like detailing so maybe o give it a try. I have a few months before the weather gets good enough to try it. Worse case scenario is it fails, I get a refund, and I install what I originally had planned on. All valid points Jimbo!
I would say to still install it, its easy to do and you can always top it for the time being if it starts to not bead water. just dont have high expectations. haha
@@autodetailingpodcast purely opinion here but what is your favorite prosumer coating that you would recommend?
"Won't wash it 500 times"....insert tongue in cheek.....lol
great video! i used chem guys " Clean Slate" that broke down all the non prof. coatings i had on my truck . you should try that stuff on your next test. just saying. awesome test!!!! thanks. i used cerakote a few weeks ago. waiting to see how it works. " truck got caught in the rain then i put it in the garage. i just knew it would have water spots on it the next day. nothing. looked like i just washed it! it was perfect. so far so good!
Spray and rinse best stuff easy use once a month some Maguires blue bottle and your set ever month
Who ?
Truth hurts sometimes.
@@autodetailingpodcast spot on thanks for the fast reply sir
Everyone hawking alkaline snow foams but thinks this isn’t a valid test. 😂. It’s accelerated, that’s all. Especially for wheel coatings. Can’t pimp Brake Buster, GS, or any other alkaline wheel cleaner / APC every video and expect people to not use them. I don’t use alkaline chemicals on coated cars except in rare cases. CarPro Reset and an acid wash are enough for 99% of maintenance washes.
I agree with you. It’s just an easy argument to say so they keep saying it.
Great video, the lesson we learn here is if a coating had its veggies and vitamins it would certainly hold upto wheel cleaners🤣
I'm totally confused. Can you briefly explain what is going on?
From the comments, it appears you tested a cerakote product that performed poorly, and had to delete the video because of threats from the company.
But why all the secrecy around the products used in this test?
Ya you’re correct about the Cerakote video.
Is the spray and wipe for the test hood the same you have listed on the website for 35 bucks?
Never mind, I just ordered a bottle. I hope it is.
Yes it is the spray . This video was recorded before it was released.
6:00. Exactly, who has the “real world.” Eg is something good for 5 years? Dunno, come back in 5 years. Accelerated wear tests only approximate the “real” world.

@@InTheZone85 yes that’s a wipe on on the right side. Tough as shell is great as a a topper too.

Haha.
Great video !!! Appreciate this test
Thank you!
its funny how much pan the organiser hints to you in his cerakote follow up video, talking about legal ramifications
It’s weird. Like why not just mention me by name.
What did he say?
@@brooklynpratt mentioned jimbo having an agenda because he’s launching his own products and saying he can get sued for that, even though the cerakote product is pretty terrible
its a lazy argument from Pan and others Like Yvan as well, both are known to do the same exact thing. Unlike them, ive consulted for the biggest brands and worked directly with blenders (they get interviews but never the access). Never wanting to have my own brand before, im doing it now not as a money play, but rather im frustrated by brands that decided to release subpar products for no reason. A coating that isn’t released yet.
@@autodetailingpodcast Thank you for the response. Just a bit confused, but I thought the unreleased coating was the one next to the far right. Are they both unreleased?
My bad. Far far right is same w/ graphene added.
For clogging resistance you want a coating that is omniphobic meaning it has oleophobicity as well as hydrophobicity. Not a lot of discussion on it but I chose Mohs Evo for my daily because the fluro-modified resin should give it good performance in those areas.

What do you mean?
@@autodetailingpodcast 14:54
Gotcha. Thanks for watching!
So we should just all believe the claims the companies feed us? Got it.
The ceo literally said they can withstand low pH and high pH products…
