Pretty good value for money if you can live with the styling and don't need much luggage space. The best news is that EVs are beginning to become affordable. I can imagine driving one of these around in the metropolitan area and not much further and being quite satisfied with it on that basis.

(0:14) According to videos I've seen from other TH-cam channels, it seems to be sold as the ‘Ora Good Cat’ in China and ‘Ora Funky Cat’ in some other countries (like the UK and Thailand).
That would probably explain the branding, and I find it interesting that they decided to sell it under the parent brand as the ‘GWM Ora’ in Australia, but probably because of existing brand recognition.

This would make more sense as a dedicated four seater.
The headroom in the rear is mostly limited on the sides so bringing the seats inboard would help and there isn't enough luggage capacity so less people would help.

I think not putting air vents and at least 2 USB charging ports for rear seat passengers is unforgettable.
As we do with cars from Japan, Korea and western carmakers, Chinese cars have reached a point where their cars should be assessed on their own merits rather grouping them as if they are made by 1 carmaker.
Carmakers like Nio, Geely, BAIC, GWM ,and Chery have caught up with "established" carmakers.

Saw one on the road yesterday and it looked a _lot_ bigger than its nominal dimensions, and was distinctive, if not attractive. Watching the review, that rear seat would be very claustrophobic for a child: Paul's shoulders were below the window line, so a child would have no hope of seeing outside. The windscreen wipers also looked to be rather short for the job, but that might just be the angle of the camera. Have to agree about the boot space, and the differing levels once the seat is folded will make pushing items forward a chore. I still find Paul's need to tap, poke, and prod the item he's discussing - even when it's the only thing on the screen - a distraction. Would the viewer really be confused and struggle to understand you're referring to the shark-fin aerial is when it's filling the screen? Otherwise, another excellent review, and I never, never tire of watching the wheels bouncing up and down on the rough-road test.

Driving /lane assist works fine if lanes are marked accordingly. I note the road you travelled had both lane markings and tarmac joins (which even in my old manual/petrol car) would be mistaken as a lane marker and throw the car over, or giving up, as you say the Ora did. My Ora here in UK tries desperately hard to decide which is which too, and more so on repaired country roads. 😢

Question about the lights at the back. Are the lower ones (at wheel level) just reflectors?
I have seen another car reviewer on TH-cam once mention that in their country (can't remember which) it was mandatory for brake/parking lights to still be visible when the boot lid is raised. This is so your car is visible at night if you are parked on the side of the road and getting the spare out etc. Makes sense.
So if brake/park lights are only in the rear window, does it meet Australian Standards?? I guess it must if it's been registered but still would be checking it out.

When I picked up my MG4 in May in Ireland, the dealer told me of someone he knew who was selling Oras. There was only model, the Funky Cat in two battery sizes and they had HUNDREDS in stock in each configuration and colour. I looked up the Irish motor industry's stats of how many Oras have been sold in Ireland total, ever and it is a grand total of 30. In August they sold zero. I consider this to be a number of factors, but chiefly it's because the car was too expensive, the brand too obscure, the marketing too lame, the car being meh, the stupid / confusing name and of course the competition having a better story. So MG sold tons of cars, BYD didn't do so well but still did solid considering brand obscurity with hundreds of sales and Ora is the lame duck. I don't see how they can get out of this mess without slashing prices to get rid of stock. I don't know if Australia is a happier story for them, but boy did they screw up in Ireland, and the UK.

It's actually not that bad. EVs are much cheaper in China compared to other parts of the world. For example, Europeans pay over twice the price for the VW ID3 compared to the Chinese market.

As an real Expert you should have mentioned that the ORA shares the plattform with the upcoming MINI E.
And the MINI will be much more refined with better design and quality.
So it's obvious where the good ride quality of the ORA results from and everything else on it is just standart chinese E-car stuff.

Good cat is the original name in chinese.
For overseas market they called it ORA. An abbreviation of 'open, reliable and alternative',
They also have lighning cat, black cat and other cats in their series.
Also in china they like to name their cars using animal names, like panda, byd sealifes series called seagulls, dolpin and etc, dogs and others.

18:25, you seem to always be testing semi-autonomous driving on a bowl. I wonder if this significantly impacts the effectiveness of these systems? Are there no flat roads in the test loop?

    • @andylo4607
      @andylo4607 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

The steeper the bowl the more torque requires for the steering to hold the lane. This is extremely valuable test to see if the system will hold the steering when the corner is more twisted.

So for the last 3 years I've had a car with a big screen and various other systems. I never used any of them. And not for lack of trying, for months every time I was stuck at the traffic lights I was playing around trying to find a use for all that stuff. In the end I realised I just want bluetooth to listen to a podcast on long drives, that's it, that's all. And my phone on a holster is fine for navigation, I mean I just want to know the next turn, I don't want a map of the whole city.
