Will a mid torque impact wrench remove a honda crank bolt?

      Just a note to let you know that I had to subscribe after viewing a lot of your videos. You do an excellent job of presenting the subject in an organized fashion and the video detail is sharp. Your detailed descriptions in the finer points demonstrate broad knowledge and lend a teaching aspect. Finally, the absence of background noise and boisterous fanfare displayed on other channels is much appreciated. That coupled with your soft voice makes for an enjoyable experience. You are an exception and other channels could learn from your presentations. I truly mean my words and your videos are refreshing. Well done!

    Patience is key. When i had my 91 Integra I thought was never going to remove that same bolt due to the horror stories. What I used were a combination of things: long extention resting on a jack stand, a quality breaker bar, crank pulkey holder and a 10ft pipe over the breaker bar. I had a helper make push the socket and extention were square on the bolt. While being cautious on not causing injury I had to take my time to put just the right amount of force before it finally make a loud crack sound. It literally sounded like something was destroyed but it was just the bolt yeilding to physics. By how much the pipe was bending I feared that the pipe was going to break in half a kill someone. Those were the days before all these affordable battery tools.

    Milwake 2967 and a regular impact socket. The 2967 is a monster.

    You should let this Makita gun work a little longer with the regular socket and see if it will eventually get it off. It looks like it might if you give it more time.

    My experience with rusty bolts etc is to hit it lightly on the head with a hammer and then use some WD40. Works most of the time. Regards

    I have a 1000 ft lb kobalt air impact, do you think that would work with the heavy socket?

    Upgraded from an older 18v kit. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxW1vOBRCMrgTCDEijzpVzDWsgI-Jm2iQv I independently chose the drill and impact tool, before I came across the kit.I like the 3 speed impact gun. It seems more powerful than my older one, and it can be set to be really gentle. The drill is more appropriately sized for my use. I used to have a hammer drill, but I did not like that it was so big and it was not a great hammer drill. I rather have a smaller drill like this, and then get a corded hammer drill for the odd case I need that.

    How many ft lbs do I need to remove that bolt ? Will a hurcules 555 impact wench work?

    My Makita XDT14Z impact driver took the crank bolt out of my '79 ford 300 pretty easily. Adapter blew apart putting it back though. The Honda must just be especially tight.

    My 450nm electric impact gun was no match for the crack bolt of my Ford focus mk1, I just got a 1200nm pneumatic wrench hope this will be enough.
    My concern is, if this is this hard to unbolt, how hard will it be to bolt the new screew back on?
    I think the torque is around 100nm that's easy enough, but what's worries me is the +90 degrees

      it's a lot easier to bolt on don't worry also 100nm is only 73ft-lbs that is less than some wheel nuts so it should be ok

      @Saul Verdugo I agree with what you are saying and I think the heavier socket's mass doesn't allow it to bounce off of the fastener very much before the next power impulse slams it against the fastener again and more energy overall is delivered to the fastener. If you've ever noticed, a lighter socket (thinner wall standard chrome socket) will quickly bounce off of the fastener and just bounce around and impart little energy to the fastener. Basically a lot of rattling and little progress.

    I have this makita mid torque so does mean I just need that socket to take out my acura mdx crank bolt easily??

      Update I bought that weight socket and used my mid torque it didn’t remove the crank bolt on my Acura mdx 2008 I had to used my Makita high torque with that socket to remove the bolt

    Anyone shocked at a honda crank bolt struggle. Honda got high torque happy back when their older counter clockwise engines were being manufactured. Some of the earlier engines had crank bolts back out. So from factory and stated to honda techs (while installing new timings belts) are to use a high temp loctite. And torque to almost 195pounds. Most of the time any impact gun that can really provide 700+ break away torque generally never had much issue getting a honda bolt out. But ive had a few honda crank bolts take down even my best impact at times. And also the starter trick with heat. Worked after many many failed tries. Some of these honda crank pulleys have no chance of coming off with a impact. And its very hard to get the starter to do the job the sketchy way. But for me. The starter trick always works.       Honda wheel hub nuts are sometimes mad tight too. I bent a 3/4inch T-handle cause I needed a 120cm extension to stand on. Even jumping on it didnt break it off. It needed a hard sledgehammer hit on the nut WHILE jumping on the extension pipe 😂
