This was helpful. Estoy un principiante en español. I have listened to a few tapes and stuff and try to watch spanish speaking television. So thank you.
the R in Spanish is a flap of the tongue which hits the top of the mouth. So 'pero' would have one flap. The 'RR' (or 'R' at the beginning of a word' will flap more. Thus, 'perro' would be more flaps. The vowel sound doesn't change, just the consonant.
Well I have to say, out of all of the videos, all of the memorization, vocab, classes that I have taken, yours seems to make the most sense. I just love all of your videos, I'm on my 12th video today and I may get a brain overload, but if I forget, I will just re-watch them. Love the visual aids that you use. So helpful because if I don't know what the word pronounced is, I can simply read the pronunciation on the screen. Awesoe job on your videos.
Jorden I am Taimoor from Pakistan. I have learn from you a lot of thing and still I am learning from your videos Thank you(Gracias) I am very lucky that I am your student May you always happy again Gracias
¡Otra vez lo hiciste bien! Sus lecciones sirven perfectamente para reforzar el enseñamiento durante la semana de las clases que enseño yo el lunes. Muchisimas gracias.
me = to me / for me / myself me gusta = it is pleasing to me me llamo = I call myself. "mí" is what we'll use after prepositions (para (for), de (of/from), etc) después de mí = after me sobre mí = about me para mí = for me
I feel confident I can understand and even start speaking in few months or could be days. I am a complete beginner. I started yesterday only but I find easier to pronounce because I am from Nepal.
either works... 'no me gusta tampoco' or 'tampoco me gusta'... when it goes before the verb, it takes the place of the 'no'... when it goes after the verb, you need a 'no' plus 'tampoco'
I can't believe I've been learning spanish for 5 years and no one ever explained what "ni" meant before. I'll certainly be able to make use of también and tampoco. One scenario where I hear this a lot is in supermarkets. The staff are now being trained to be more polite, so where historically they would respond to "gracias" with "de nada" this is considered a little impolite, so instead they will often reply "y tu también".
"y tú" --> and you... (for most cases we'll use this... "y a ti" --> and [to] you / and [for] you... we'll use this in other cases like with the verb gustar... I explain in the newest video on gustar why we use "a ti"... search for: "01062 Spanish Lesson - Present Tense - Gustar (all forms) + activities"
"y tú" --> and you... (for most cases we'll use this... "y a ti" --> and [to] you / and [for] you... we'll use this in other cases like with the verb gustar...
These are both informal... "¿y tú?" will be used with most verbs... "¿y a ti?" with gustar because it's a weird verb... To be more formal we'll use the following: w/ gustar: "¿y a usted?" most other verbs "¿y usted?"
Hola Snr Jordon, En dos meses yo voy a espana para la vacation. eres tu un bueno maestro y yo tengo aprendidas mas espanol con su ayuda. yo no soy perfecto pero espero yo sabes espero que lo suficiente. muchas Gracias amigo. espero el tiempo es caliente. Aqui en Escosia esta muy frio a toda mas dias. Excuse the mistakes and will continue to learn from you and the locals.
Note that not all the words in parentheses are the actuall translation of the word in "bold". Nada = nothing. But in that sentence the translation would be to "at all", their just to help understand what it would be in english.
I'm really sorry to hear (read) that you've been having bad luck in Spanish class! I'm happy to hear you've been able to find help in my videos. Please let me know if I can further explain something to you (if it still isn't clear)! You can do it! Don't give up. :-)
Your videos are fantistico! Learning Spanish has been a lifetime goal. Rosetta Stone seems to work for pronunciation, but did you use Rosetta Stone to help learn to speak Spanish? Gracias
(Noun after) 'I like soccer' --> Me gusta el fútbol. (verb after) 'I like to play soccer' --> Me gusta jugar al fútbol. You're right. If the verb is RIGHT after 'me gusta' you won't change it. Más ejemplos: Me gusta comer. Me gusta correr. Me gusta hablar por teléfono. No me gusta trabajar. No me gusta ir a la escuela.
@HHaircare Seems fine to me. You don't have to say the complete phrase if someone asks you the question. It makes sense to answer in that case with "ir al cine" or "practicar deportes" etc
your the only person i can actully listen to on youtube withought making me want to drink bleach you make everything so clear i want to say thank you for what you do.
@jimm17 There will be some differences between countries (and even in the countries). When we say "Latin American" Spanish, there are a LOT of differences even in there. If you look at the map and look at how many countries Latin America consists of... In Spain, people also speak differently in the south from the north. Any Spanish you learn can be useful, but it'll be a starting point for learning more and learning how someone else says something. I hope that answers your question. ;-)
Hey, first of all i'm really impressed with your lessons, thanks to you I will be able to have a conversation in Spanish when I go traveling! Second, is it okay to omit the first 'ni' in 'No me gusta ni trabajar ni bailar', or do you need both in there? Thanks
@chocul7 si, me gusta el español !! pero soy eres un principiante y mi español es pobre =/ your english is good :) muy bien! i will be travelling to central America soon, so i need alot of practice :) ¿De dónde eres? ¿España?
There's as much or more difference in the Spanish spoken in different regions and countries as there is a difference among California, Alabama, Jamaica and England. :) The grammar is identical among countries speaking the same language, but sometimes idioms, sayings, and words take on different meanings and some words exist in some countries but not others. Puerto Rico calls orange juice Jugo de china, Spain calls it zumo?? and most others use the fruit name Naranja.
@tontitofrito "...no me gusta tampoco" is incorrect. At least when you hear that it sounds wrong. I'm not sure it's accpted, but just to be sure just say "...tampoco me gusta". What you can say is "No, (a mí) tampoco me gusta (whatever)".
in spanish, do you pronounce jordan as jordan in english or khordan ? ( as j is pronounced as khota with a distinct "kh" sound as in khaki / khartoum as per your initial videos on alphabets)
first rule of translation from one language to another... languages have different ways of saying things. ;-) (yo) Soy Sr. Jordan = I am Sr. Jordan (yo not necessary... since "Soy" is the I form) (a mî) me gusta ir al cine. (Me gusta literally translates to "it's pleasing to me") so I am saying "going to the movies is pleasing to me.... but in English we would say, "I like going to the movies." Hope that helps!
@HHaircare You just can answer IR AL CINE, or another verb referring to an activity... It's the short answer... You can also answer ME GUSTA IR AL CINE, it's the long answer... But they both are correct, just use the one which you feel comfortable... GOOD LUCK :)
Not for 'me gusta'... because it literally means 'it's pleasing to me' So you need to say: 'to me too' that is 'to me it is pleasing too' --> a mí también
yes, some words are different, but the main problem will be the accent. I speak latin american spanish and when I watch a film from Spain I must subtitiled it cause I don't understand what they are saying. Spain spanish will be like Irish for us
Sus lecciones son magníficas. Quisiera hacerle una sugerencia. En español no decimos "Soy Señor Jordán", sino "Soy el señor Jordán". El artículo en este caso es obligatorio.
yes ,there,s any difference between spanish latin and spanish from spain but is not very different..... only the odd word.(si hay algunas diferencia entre el español latino y el español de españa pero no es muy diferente .....alguna que otra palabra ,.....que tengan exito chicos.
i notice that d verb following gusta is not conjugated is that always d case. cuz lets say im talkin about a noun what wud i say ex. i like cake is "me gusta la torta" correct???
@tontitofrito I don't know about the original poster, but my professor goes through things (such as pronunciation) once and then moves on, does not explain new words in a sentence, expecting everyone to figure out their meaning based on use (sometimes possible, sometimes not) or gives new words in a list (such as items in a room) without applying those words to a use (ie. we know la puerta, but have yet to be taught cerrar la puerta).
the videos are great my spanish is coming along well but a few quick questions? first how many spanish lessons videos do you have? and secondly i like this grl tht speaks no english and the whole i watch these videos is so maybe i can hook up with her. To what video number will i have to watch to be able to carry a conversation with her?
This guys rules these videos are perfect. Right to the point clear they build logically on to each other. Peak TH-cam experience right here!!!

Thank you for this lesson - an especially helpful one.
your vids are simply great! thanks a lot!
These are both informal...
"¿y tú?" will be used with most verbs...
"¿y a ti?" with gustar because it's a weird verb...
To be more formal we'll use the following:
w/ gustar: "¿y a usted?"
most other verbs "¿y usted?"
THIS IS VERY HELPFUL.THANK YOOOOOOOUU

This is very helpful, thank you!!
@chocul7 si, me gusta el español !! pero soy eres un principiante y mi español es pobre =/
your english is good :) muy bien!
i will be travelling to central America soon, so i need alot of practice :)
¿De dónde eres? ¿España?
@Dementcha
pero no dije 'tampoco no me gusta'... sino 'no me gusta tampoco'
a lo mejor la gente suele decir 'tampoco me gusta' más
could you say 'si me gusta escuchar musica, y tu?' do you have a video on the different use of ti and tu? :) x
so i want to just make it clear to myself tambien is for a positive answer and tampoco is for a negative anser.Thank you so much Adios =D

nada is the conjugated word for swim, but in the infinitive it is nadar

You can also answer ME GUSTA IR AL CINE, it's the long answer... But they both are correct, just use the one which you feel comfortable... GOOD LUCK :)
I love you so so much
Not for 'me gusta'... because it literally means 'it's pleasing to me'
So you need to say: 'to me too' that is 'to me it is pleasing too' --> a mí también
Context is all important.

Primero, muchas gracias!! For your videos. Tengo una duda...What about this---> "No me gusta estudiar tampoco" Is it correct?
Thanks for your time! :)
Would it be okay to compare the differences to British English and American English?
Sus lecciones son magníficas. Quisiera hacerle una sugerencia. En español no decimos "Soy Señor Jordán", sino "Soy el señor Jordán". El artículo en este caso es obligatorio.
jk
thanks...:)
Gracias! :))
@sammysnakejones
Creo que sí. (I think so)
Say what differently?
Could you also say 'yo también' for 'me too'?
Can you put nada or mucho at the end, or is it always about gusta?
(Me gusta cantar mucho)
yes ,there,s any difference between spanish latin and spanish from spain but is not very different..... only the odd word.(si hay algunas diferencia entre el español latino y el español de españa pero no es muy diferente .....alguna que otra palabra ,.....que tengan exito chicos.

ME GUSTA
ME GUSTA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MUCHO
Me gusta este vídio.
Dude r u a teacher in a school or somethin? your good.
Is me gusta kind of like "it pleases me"? or the german, "es gefallt mir"?
What is the difference between Mi and Me?
creo que decir "tampoco no me gusta" es un pleonasmo
es como decir "subir arriba" o "bajar abajo"
Pues, por aquí. ¿y tú?
@tontitofrito
