Here is a breakdown on Spanish verbs:
1)There are at least 12,290 verbs in Spanish, but based on data from Mark Davies's work " Vocabulary Range and Text Coverage:Insights from the Forthcoming Routledge Frequency Dictionary of Spanish", you need to know about 230 verbs to cover 90% of the most frequently used verbs.
2)About 88% of verbs end in "AR" and 6% end in both "ER" and "IR"
3)"Almost all -AR verbs are regular. Less than 5% are irregular.
Almost all -ER verbs are irregular. Over 72% are irregular. There are 18 verbs that end in -AER and they are all irregular. For example, caer (to fall) and traer (to bring).
Less than half of all -IR verbs are irregular. Over 33% are irregular." (From FluentU)
4)From Mark Davies, here is a list of the most frequent irregular and regular verbs in the 100 most frequent Spanish words list (frequency ranking):
    -Irregular
    #8 ser 'to be'
    #11 haber 'to have' (auxiliary)
#17 estar 'to be' (location, condition)
    #18 tener 'to have'
#25 hacer 'to make, to do'
    #27 poder 'to be able'
#28 decir 'to say, to tell'
    #30 it 'to go'
    #37 ver 'to see'

    #77 poner 'to put'
    #81 parecer 'to seem'
    #97 seguir 'to follow'
#100 encontrar 'to find, to meet'
    -Regular
    #66 llegar 'to arrive'
    #67 pasar 'to pass'
    #75 deber 'to owe, should'
    #89 quedar 'to stay'
    #91 creer 'to believe'
    #92 hablar 'to speak'
#93 llevar 'to carry, to wear'
    #94 dejar 'to leave behind'

I am native spanish speaker ,and my advice For begginers is to use infinitives when you are talking , it´s perfectly understable and you wont get jammed every five seconds , the correct conjugation will come to you on time reading and listening spanish , there is not more awfull thing than to talk with someone who is trying to work out the proper conjugation in every verb he say .
if you want to start talking spanish since the very beggining ,please use infinitives ,I sure you that with time and practising you get the conjugations in a natural way without thinking or applyng rules. Please dont be asame of using infinitives , and start to talk .
That works out for conversations nor for school tests !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • @fergar9264
      @fergar9264 3 ปีที่แล้ว +57

@@r.v.5606 as you know in spanish you have to conjugate the verbs in the past ,futre and present , for instance the verb to work (trabajar ) in the future would be , yo tabajare, tu trabajaras ,el trabajara ,...trabajaremos ,....trabajareis etc. this feature of the spanish language is hard to get for english speakers . In english we say ....will work for every person or in the past we add a "d" or "ed" ,
when the students star taking they used to get jamed ,thinking about the correct conjugation ,what makes the conversation tedious an slow ,
My advice for beginers is to talk using the infinite form od the verb , just in talkings not in writtings

@@pallmall7385 no, unless you’re texting to a chat bot over the Internet. Humans speak to each other. If I understand the rhythm of the Japanese language and I am able to get a sense for which respectful. Honorific I should be using, I can talk around my inability to read some thing. I would even have a much easier time with pitch accent if I have internalized the sounds of the language. The reason for the extreme stress to introduce students of Japanese to the writing system, is the same reason that the first two throws that anyone will ever learn in a judo class are always the same: the reap and big hip 大外刈 大腰 in both cases, it is because the mastery is incredibly difficult and they’re encouraging you to start practicing early. You will start finding success with other takedowns long before you are able to land either of those and you will be successful in communicating your thoughts and ideas long before you are in a position where you need to impress anyone with your knowledge of stroke order.

This method is highly effective. I tell people to do this all the time. Only thing I would add is to start with the top 20 or 25 high frequency verbs. Start with the regular verbs but words like, querer, ser, hacer, pensar and gustar are so essential that to speak, you have to learn them early. But I agree

Spanish is awesome. You just need to commit to learning one word a day. Then rehearse everything you've learned everyday. When you forget, google translate is literally your best friend. Start with things you say a lot in english translated to spanish. If you really want to learn you NEED to be around spanish speaking people. With practice, google translate and literally saying the same phrases over and over again you will begin to get it. I recommend to work with a hispanic crew or a mexican resturant (even if you're happy with your job)
Spanish is very similar to english in many ways. Plus hispanic people are the coolest, chillest race on earth overall I think.

If the title is about verb conjugation, and you want to learn about verb conjugation, you will watch the video from start to end to make sure you don't miss anything. I definitely want to improve my Spanish. I've been "speaking" it for years, but I'm still in that horrible place of people who don't speak it think I'm on point while native speakers feel like their talking to a toddler. Verbal conjugation is my weakest point. I'd say my vocabulary is somewhere in the range of 5,000 words, but like a lot of people I speak better than I listen. I'm hoping to break through my plateau so I don't slow down conversations anymore. Then I would really feel like I could say I "speak Spanish." The y'all concept was really helpful, by the way.

This is absolutely the way to go. If you map out the time required, it's perfectly practical to master the complete conjugation of all regular verbs and the most important 40-50 irregular verbs in just 6 months if you invest 20 minutes or so a day. (Of course, this assumes that you're using an efficient memorisation strategy, but that's another topic).
Now you can speak and understand grown-up language!
I was just reading a kid The Cat In The Hat and realised it uses at least 5 different verb forms - and this is a first reader aimed at tiny kids, with a 250 word vocabulary. You really can't say anything very meaningful unless you bite the bullet and get on top of those verbs.

3 years to get to past tense??? You should be functionally fluent in three years, language is like any formal/informal system, it's more about practice and use. You'd also forget most of what you're learning in those huge gaps of time

Thank God I found your channel. You are very right about the school's traditional take on teaching Spanish to students. Although I do understand the purpose of how they structured the Spanish lessons, it undeniably prevents the students from comprehensively learning Spanish because of the chronology of lessons the school needs to follow. I believe that Your proposed method is more effective and practical for those who want to learn Spanish the fastest way. Kudos to you sir!

If you're just trying to learn the conjugation in order to understand (rather than speak), you can really learn all the regular conjugations in a day. You can remember the present tenses pretty easily. The future is just the infinitive with extra added on that matches the present tense's patterns. You don't really need to know the difference between perfect and preterite past at the beginning because usually context will fill you in.
The irregular conjugations actually tend to be irregular in internally "regular" ways. So you can pick up on them pretty fast. They are also very common so you get a lot of practice. Obviously you should still learn these conjugations more intimately as you go, but you can get 90% of the way there really fast this way.

This is exactly my thought process for learning Spanish-language verbs - since the tense's endings for the regular verbs are so predictable, you only have to learn the er-ar-ir endings, not each individual verb. It's the irregular verbs that take all the work...

I began learning spanish in high school, I got a solid F.
I had to make up the credit by going to a different school at night, where I took a creative writing class.
Years later I decided to take another swing at it. I lived in Miami FL my whole life, so I could definitely submerge myself, and most of my friends are spanish speakers too.
My Puerto Rican wife says I speak pretty good for a gringo.
I also work primarily with spanish speakers. I have a very technical job so it afforded me the opportunity to use words in spanish that normally don't come up in conversation.
I have absolutely had a terrific time learning and I find myself actually thinking in spanish now too sometimes!
I just moved away from Miami-Dade County. My new neighbors are so great, most of them also speak spanish .
So, my learning and growing doesn't even need to slow down!! haha!!

Hola... me llamo es "LISA" cz my name is a spanish word and 1st semester we learned one anothers "spanish names". Horrible start to demanded language courses... BUT I had lots of spanish people I knew cz of my Mom probably... so I said spanish is pretty popular language outside of english and maybe I could travel to warm beaches in know "enough to get by on vacay"... this became true! 9 girls and 7 have to pee but the assult rifel street side were not so approachable when I couldnt pass spanish since yr 2 and my confusion of the verbs is EXACTLY RIGHT! IM VERY OFTEN comforting spanish pts but they laugh cz Im aware my spanish is awful "lo siento, my espanol es muy mal! (Laugh😅) quatros anos en escuella... y... "puedo ir el bano?" Cz I used to smoke "el cigarette" en Espanola yr 2 cz I just wasnt getting it! 15yrs later Im still wanting to learn correct "speaking/verbage" which i never understood and is the biggest truth to spanish that Im barely fluent... about 2 sentences in BUT I AM TRYING which they admire my asking them to help me... "como se de se?" Means I didnt get it but I want to know what they're saying so I spit out the verbs unconjigated... and we usually firgure it out...BC I WAS TAUGHT to memorize words and yr 2 I got lost and gave up learning id never get vosotros apparently Ill never use 😅👍 ty.
Anywho... ill be following and I only have 1 thing to improve ur video... spell the word for "dance" when u introduced the verb ur gonna use. On screen cz even the caption options are not so accurate...
Great intro video! I LEARNED MORE than the 4 yrs I barely passed of Spanish class... we definitely didnt learn correctly! I was lucky to have spanish friends tell me how bad my school spanish was so I dropped it and have spent yrs trying to "not lose it", little bit I remember as routine phrases in 1st yr to ask permission over understanding the verbiage was present tense and I learned the speech not the tenses.

Oh wow this video is really interesting because I’ve been trying to pick up Spanish again after dropping my Spanish classes years ago because I felt like I was learning at a snails pace and not really understanding how to say anything I needed to say, and I’m getting farther than I ever got in class. But yeah… Mines been kind of jumping back and forth but same thing. I like to conjugate one word in a couple forms I use it in and then a different word in a couple others and then I find the conjugations spill over and I’m learning more because I can actually say more things that are relevant and my Spanish speaking friends correct it and then I learn to say basic statements pretty fast. And I can intuitively feel my way through new states and it’s either very correct or very off but once I’m corrected a lightbulb goes off and every time I try to speak again it becomes more accurate to what I want to express. So I’ll probably definitely make myself drills of these
This is more organized though I will probably try this.

Ya know, nobody ever told me that this form of conjugation was only in present tense, not my teacher, and not everyone I know
The thing that really makes Spanish hard, at least in the states, is that the resources public education uses are counter intuitive to learning spanish, meaning that even if you eanted to go home and study you better hope that your notes are top notch, since the only place your going go find spanish presented to you in such a fashion is in a school
Honestly its really frustrating, and not just because of a grade. I genuinely wanted to learn Spanish, or at least some, since i have some hispanic roots on my dads side, but all of that blew up in my face when we where expected to be able to actively understand spanish, since our teacher gave almost all of our lessons in it aftdf first semester (and shamed us when we sat there dumbfounded since- ya know, she was fluent)
It doesn't help to constantly be compared to other students and other classes, and that with the pressure of getting a good grade has made me hardly learn anything at all other than what was necessary
Im just tired, sorry for venting in the comments of an old youtube video, i just have many gripes with american public education in general
