I’ve been casually studying Spanish for over ten years. I’ve watched A LOT of TH-cam videos and this video (HANDS DOWN) is the best I’ve watched. You guys made the content interesting and fun. This video was super helpful and I’ve watched it 4 times since last night. I would love more videos like this. You guys are awesome ! Thank you :)
Thanks so much! We really appreciate the kind words. We have more videos like this one coming soon. In the meantime, we made playlist with all of our videos that follow this format. You can check it out here: th-cam.com/video/8E0XIF2uJCQ/w-d-xo.html Muchas gracias. ¡Un saludo! -Jim
Una recomendación que me ayudaba mucho cuando empezaba con el español era aprender y practicar un “script” con frases muy común durante una conversación imagenaria con una nueva persona. Todavia no puedo decirte cuanto tiempo paso en mi coche hablando a mi misma así que puedo desarrollar la capacidad tener un “chat” naturalmente. (Espero que las personas en otros coches piensen estoy cantando.)
Remember that we have subtitles available in Spanish and English for this video and many others. Just click the "CC" button. Do you like this format for lessons? What would make it better? Thanks for watching!
The format is good. And it is a good idea to break down the dialogue into parts, write the phrases and their English translation. But why don't you do the same for the answers. You only talk about the questions. But small talk isn't about questions only, We should be able to answer them. I would add both the answers and the questions.
Shushan Keshishyan Thanks for the feedback! We’ll keep that in mind for future videos. This video is part of a course that we will be releasing soon and we go deeper into the conversations. I fall in love with the sound of spanish language. So that I chose it as a second foreign language to learn. Now I finished the first year of my studies at the university and by the time of graduation, I want to be able to speak five languages (english, Russian, spanish, italian, French) fluently. But I literally lost my motivation and most of the time I feel tired of studying. I am not as determined as I used to be while I was learning English. But day by day I am spending reasonable amount of time for learning spanish. Hope I will be able to manage mastering it. Good luck everyone and to me too! :)
Yes, they’re deliberately trying to confuse you! 😆 But seriously, Spanish is one of the fastest languages in the world, and we try to show you what real Spanish sounds like in the least confusing way possible. We do that by offering subtitles in Spanish and English, as well as pointing out the often-overlooked speed adjustment setting in the TH-cam video player. Thanks for watching and commenting! ¡Saludos! 😊 -Jim
Oh god, I know many spanish-speaking people; I do realize they actually speak that quickly! I guess I'm saying I find it culturally interesting that in N.A people will not follow you at all if you speak at even half that speed. As far as the TH-cam speed setting, I have tried that periodically but I find it warps the sound considerably, which is something of an encumbrance when learning the specific pronunciation of a different language.
Thanks for the input! You’re right, the speed setting does warp the sound a bit. As content creators, it can be hard to strike the right balance for an audience. I’ve seen comments on other channels criticizing the creator for speaking too slowly when teaching Spanish. We hope the captions help you! Thanks again for the feedback. We’ll keep that in mind for future videos. -Jim
Spanish and Go In my opinion (as a language teacher, not Spanish) every language spoken by natives seems (too) fast as a learner, in the beginning. Fellow-students in my Italian class have exactly the same complaint and then you should try the Danish news channel e.g.... It is because you don't realise this, only when learning the language are you confronted with this and baffled by it. Don't be discouraged, however, look for 'slow Spanish' in the search engine and short easy texts and conversations to start with and as a transition to longer, faster and more complicated pieces. Also, songs in your target language with "lyrics" at the same time may help, as songs are normally not sung that fast. Success!
HEY FRIEND! I hope that helps. Believe, the more natural they speak the language, the best. In real life is quite hard to understand if you're not prepared. So give your best, study and repeat the sentences after them, it will be so much better with time! Abrazos

thienthy oh, I see. Yeah, we’re starting to leave the titles up for a little longer for the newer videos. In the last conversation Jim says “pero ayer comí mole por primera vez.” Which means “I had mole (a Mexican dish - does not have mole in it 😅). May says “¿De verdad? ¿Y qué tal?” Which means “really? And how was it?” Jim says “estaba buenísimo.” = it was delicious. May says “Que bueno que te gustó.” = I’m glad you liked it. Thanks for watching! We appreciate the feedback. -Jim 😊

I learned to speak Dutch when I was an exchange student in the Netherlands for 12 months. I am learning Spanish now, without the luxury of living in a Spanish speaking country. One thing I will never forget: To my (host family) sister I once complained that it's hard to learn Dutch because everyone talks too fast. She told me: "No. You listen too slow.". It's true. I then changed to trying to hear and understand concepts rather than breaking down every sentence. Once I stopped trying to break down every sentence word by word and focused on the concept, I could "hear" what they were saying. Listening more, I could get the proper response. I'm hoping it works with my Spanish lessons now. I'm WAY older and not submersed like I was then. Here's hoping!
It seems you have some experience in learning languages. It is also an interesting comment and there is some truth in it. I'm quite slow at assimilitaring information but fast when it comes to speaking. Con el español ya no tengo tantos problemas a este nivel. Claro, llevo viviendo casi 30 años en el país. Met mijn nederlands is het een beetje moejljker de mensen te verstaan omdat i niet zo vaak de taal kan luisteren maar ik spreek ook sneller dan ik begrijp.

I agree!! Thank you for the lesson, but please translate EVERY phrase you just said. In this case it is going to have whole effect of your lessons. Perhaps it can mean that we will have Less situations in one video but it is going to be better . You guys are very nice. Спасибо вам Большое !
These videos in which you two are conversing are excellent for listening comprehensions in class. Are you going to make any more in addition to the ones you have already made?

Anita Turner thanks so much for the feedback! We are happy you found us too! There are two options that might help you: 1. Turn on closed captioning. We have English and Spanish captions available for most of our Spanish lessons. On a desktop or laptop computer, just click the “CC” button in the video window. On mobile click the three vertical dots to see your options. 2. You can set the video speed to play slower or faster under the video options in the video window. Please let us know if that helps! Thanks for watching! 😊
She is talking at a moderate pace. Some countries like Puerto Rico, Spain and Chile talk much faster. Listening is the most important and difficult skill to develop. It's essential to watch videos (preferably 2 minutes or less at first), movies, etc in Spanish without English subtitles (Spanish subtitles are a good learning aid for a while).
Hola amigos I studied Spanish for two years in high school but at University I totally ignored it even though I loved Spanish so much. now I want to start over learning but I am lost.can you give me pieces of advice. Ayuda me por favor
¡Hola Hadjer! Thank you so much for your comment! It is great that you want to re-start learning Spanish! We recommend watching lots of videos and movies in Spanish because developing an ear for the language is the most important thing you can do. Think of when you learned your first language as a baby. You didn't have to worry about grammar or memorizing lists of verbs, right? The same is true for learning any new language. Get used to listening and speaking and worry about grammar later. You can also check out the "Learn" section on our website where we share lots of tips and tricks to help you improve Spanish. We have an article called "The Fast Track to Spanish Fluency", you can check it out here: www.spanishandgo.com/learn/the-fast-track-to-spanish-fluency

Helpful and interesting. Advice: careful that if a compliment is motivated only to engage the person it matter not to YHWH that it's sincere. Rather than engage or ingratiate by complimenting the person or things that inspire pride in that person one can compliment the weather or something else having to do with nature. This kind of praise can follow with praising The Creator and lead to insights about the person and can continue with conversations about science, creation, etc
Thanks, Danielle! We appreciate the feedback. We’ve added subtitles in Spanish and English to help cover the parts we didn’t explain specifically. We try to focus on the most important parts so that the video doesn’t end up being a half hour long. 😆 but we will have more like these in the future. Thanks for watching! ¡Saludos! -Jim
Me da gusto d este video a verlo. Estoy aprendiendo el español en la escuela ahorita. Es mi primer año y estoy súper feliz, también gracias por publicarlo.👏😀también lo si mi gramática no era bien.
Yes, but it's a very Mexican way of saying "cool." The word "chido" is also used for "cool" in Mexico. In Spain they say "guay" and in many other Latin American countries they say "chevere." Thanks for watching! -Jim
@@SpanishandGo We use "cool" here in Mexico too. Yes and no, "Padre" has different meanings (including "Father") for example you can use it in phrases like "Está padre" or "Que padre" which are used in different situations, but they essetially mean that something/someone is great/cool/good. Spanish slang changes a lot with pronunciation, sometimes it gets really hard to tell what the mean tho

Thanks, Cassius. Just turn on the subtitles. There you’ll see the translations for everything we say. Also, TH-cam also allows you to slow down the playback speed. Hey, D! Thanks for your comment and feedback. We understand the dialogue can be difficult to keep up with sometimes, but there's a reason we do it that way. Thanks for commenting, Jif!

Hi Anita, I am from dominican Republic, I am to friends to practices my English and you your spanish! We can talk by whatsaap! I hope that you want!

We have an article called "The Fast Track to Spanish Fluency", you can check it out here:

Great, I like this video, thank you!
You are right, compliments should always be authentic and sincere.
Thank you for watching and commenting!

can we make practice
que padre means cool?
Yes, but is common just in Mexico...; in other countries have different expressions with the same meaning.
Intead of any slang you could say: "que bonita mochila" tath means :"Pretty school bag, or cool" sorry for my english btw im learning too :p

......I hve viewed several comments asking that you slow it down. I agree. If you don't, many viewers will go elsware . & I would agree to them again. Because they did ask this of you.
Hey, D! Thanks for your comment and feedback.
We understand the dialogue can be difficult to keep up with sometimes, but there's a reason we do it that way. We don’t slow down because this is how fast you will hear people speak when you travel. There are a few options we've made available to help you:
3. You can always re-watch the video or a certain part of the video. We usually leave a table of contents in the description so you can jump to different parts of the video.
4. We have blog posts that go along with most of our Spanish videos. There you can find the phrases we used in the video. You can find the article for this video here: spanishandgo.com/learn/small-talk-in-spanish?format=amp
I hope that helps. Thanks for watching! -Jim
Tipisch Nederlandse reactie, lekker nuchter! Gewoon sneller luisteren :)
