The slicing is done using the midi bowl, the tomatoes etc were cut using the large bowl. This will affect the quality of the output.

you can put it in the dishwasher work it hard do anything with it its a machine that no other can compete with. I have a Cuisinart, a kitchenaid and several magimix cause we have a restaurant and honestly its the strongest the parts are the best they never break and its really easy to get one even for the oldest models if you ever need to. You must try it for making dough and tough things in it to see what its really worth

I really enjoyed this review on the Magimix. Thanks so much! While I really like my Breville Souse Chef, last year I bit the bullet and purchased a Robot Coupe R2 Dice Ultra for its stainless steel bowl and quick dicing features. My R2 Dice Ultra is now my favorite countertop appliance, and worth every penny I paid. I think that whoever purchases the Magimix when it's on sale, will very much be getting their money's worth as compared to Cuisinart.

@@helenalovelock1030 Cuisinart isn't the same company it was when Robot Coupe was manufacturing their food processors or, even worse, when the FPs were being manufactured in Japan (quality control issues with Robot Coupe at the time). They make their stuff in China now--Robot Coupe/Magimix is still manufactured in France.

I've had a Magimix Pattisier for 3 years now, the plastic is different because it will not warp in the dishwasher. At all. All the parts are made and manufactured in France, which is nice, and it comes with a 25 year warranty on the motor from a company that's been around since the beginning.
The big pieces of your onions were sticking to the side of the bowl, and not processed further than the first pulse.

Another thorough review. I had naturally assumed it would've aced all the tasks put to it, and been on top of the ratings; so it was a bit of a surprise to see it slip a little below the Breville. The tomato slicing was particularly disappointing. (I own the Breville 16-cup Sous Chef, so am acquainted with its performance first hand). A couple of things you didn't mention was the [apparent] lack of a bowl gasket - that can help contain liquids. Also, this design continues using a bowl with an open center permitting the motor shaft to protrude through it, as opposed to a sealed bowl with an integral post, as is used on the Breville and some others. This allows for a greater amount of liquid accumulation in the bowl without any leaking or spilling through the center.
    Thanks for another interesting review.

I have a cuisinart elite with a rubber gasket for sealing and it’s a bigger pain then it’s worth and very hard to clean with all the nooks. I just purchased this and could not be happier. I would take this over the cuisinart any day of the week. None of them are perfect but I think this comes pretty darn close. Thank you Amy and Eric !

Hi Amy great review as always. Only thing surprised me was that you didn’t make pastry in it. I use my Magimix all the time to make pastry as it’s so much quicker than a stand mixer plus for sweet pastry I can use any sugar as metal blade chops it.

My Cuisinart back in the 80's was a pain to clean. It ended up in a donation. I've never tried another one. I have severe carpal tunnel and rheumatoid arthritis, so a processor that isn't hard to clean could be very useful to me. Thank you for the demo!!!

I have had several food processors over the years, and find that a Robot Coupe R2 series are the easiest to clean. At least, for me. They cost a lot of money, but you only have to cry once. If your budget is more limited, then a Magimix may be what you are looking for. The one in this video has a lot more simplicity than the Breville Souse Chef, which some would find to be more complicated.

I had the cuisinart when it first came with many accessories in the 80s, it was a perfect addition for a young military family. I bought the Williams Sonoma 3200xl because I am a family of one. Ultimately, I purchased the juicer and puree optional kitd on clearance and the msgimix demo at Williams Sonoma. Their retail was 349 in stainless. I purchased for 299 as demo and 30 percent off. The total cost was 240. The accessories were 99 each reduced to 41 each. Beware when you purchase their optional attachments, you must purchase for your specific model.

I still have the Japanese Cuisinart from Williams-Sonoma that I got in 1988. I'm toying with the idea of replacing it with a Magimix but I don't know . . . I read a few years ago that those Japanese Cuisinarts were the best ones ever made (who knew?); that was when Robot Coupe had stopped distributing Cuisinart home-use food processors.
      Decisions, decisions. 🤔

Great Review! Seems like a good machine. I am wondering: could you do a comparison of making dough in a stand mixer vs. making it in a food processor? I habe been using a food processor for dough making almost all my life. Now I bought a stand mixer and I don’t know if I’m happy: everything takes so much longer. So I might just go back to using the food processor for making dough in literal seconds. What do you think about the quality?

Hello Amy, I left a comment for you about Magimix some years ago. At the time you were unfamiliar with the brand. It was such a surprise to see this review today. I just wanted to let you know I bought the 5200XL it was awful, really cumbersome to use. The only good function is the dough blade, but the machine vibrates so much it can fall of the working surface. The slicing and grating is poor and also messy. The two pushers are a pain to use and cleaning the machine is time consuming with a lot of parts. The plastic is very flimsy and they advise not to put it in dishwasher. Overall I disliked it and the company who made it had shockingly bad service. They kept contradicting my comments and made dumb suggestions. However, I read many people had bad experiences like me.
Glad you're still doing your great reviews. Love xx

The plastic used in this food processor can’t be compared to Breville, Cuisinart or KitchenAid or other mainstream brands out there. Its much better. It’s not made from China crap like the others. The price is steep but given its reliable good quality, it’s worth it. I’ve been using my Magimix for almost 10 years now and no complaints 👍🏼

    • @EricLearnstoCook
      @EricLearnstoCook 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

We don't recommend putting in the dishwasher because it can eventually crack the plastic. The directions specifically state to turn off the heated drying (well that's a no-go for us right there). It could also dull the blades as knives in general should never go into a dishwasher. The more you spend, the more you want to protect them.

    • @a.l.feenstra
      @a.l.feenstra 4 ปีที่แล้ว

@@EricLearnstoCook I don't agree with the judgement about the plastic. I have had a Magimix for several years (I'm in Europe) and have always put my bowls in the dishwasher and washed them on a pots and pan cycle on 167F. That is in a dishwasher with a hidden heating element, so you may not want to put the bowls in a bottom rack when the element is exposed. The plastic is a bit flexible, but that doesn't mean it's less durable. For the rest great review! Thanks!

Interesting review. There a very few rules w/food processors. But Amy did what a lot of people do, she overfilled the bowl with the parsley. In all applications, the food needs room to toss (in any of the bowls or machines), same with mixers, blenders, pressure cookers etc. many people overfill them. If she had used a larger bowl or left out a bit of the parsley, she would have gotten a better result. I have to admit her tomatoes did look a tad uneven/rough; I don't know why but there is a little finesse needed between brands. In all videos I've seen, the Magimix results are noticeably superior, so I don't know what's going on here. I wish she had made dough, that would have been interesting to see.

In the French video showing how to make mayonnaise, the mayonnaise is made in the little bowl not the big one. They also put a little bit of oil and like in other processors when it’s on the machine they pour the rest of the oil

I was disappointed to see tomato slicing not that great.

I'm pretty sure the problem with the tomato slicing was that the machine spins very quickly. Amy didn't push hard enough, so the machine did a full revolution before the tomato was pushed down to the bottom for a full slice. So, even though the tomatoes where gone in the blink of an eye, they should have been gone even quicker, and the slices would be 4mm thick.

thank you amy for your vids. have to comment re breville plastic....very low quality.
i have had the breville for a couple of years...and have to say, their quality now stinks.
their plastic keeps on breaking. i have had 2 of the large bowls get stress cracks.
i can barely push the spindle on for the blades...perhaps the stress cracks makes it a tad wider at the bottom to do this. that said, i have to get my hubby to wrangle the spindle off...it really is a nightmare.
check amazon 1 star reviews...they have the same issue. plus most of the time breville doesn't have the bowl in stock to replace it. currently i have 2 bowls w/cracks and of course, the liquid during processing leaks all over the place.
also, food gets stuck in the handle. i didn't notice this at first, but man i have all kinds of food stuck in the handle that i cannot get out...not so hygenic.
i loved it at first....but the quality isn't what it used to be.

You must have a HUGE kitchen😅. No judgement we are all different and living different passions but I Wonder if there was like a professional reason or something

Sarah B When my son moved out I turned his room into a pantry/cookware/gadget space. I am a hospital dietician by trade. I have been passionate about food/healthy lifestyle for 34 years. I’m 45 now. I have a step saver type kitchen so not huge at all! 🌹

@@sarahb7469 Having a collection of food processors gives the opportunity to try something different on any given day in food preparation. There are times when I'll keep using my R2 Dice Ultra, or I may bring out my retired Cuisinart Elemental 13 just for kicks, or even use my Vitamix. I can also use my Breville to peel small potatoes that would otherwise be bit tedious. My Breville speeds things up considerably. The other processors in my collection don't have this capability.

The MAGAMIX motor is an AC induction motor and not a DC motor. Your Kitchenaid Stand Mixer uses a UNIVERSAL MOTOR which will run on AC or DC. AC induction motors induce a magnetic field into the rotor. A DC or UNIVERSAL motor has a switching device called a commutator. Electricity is fed to the commutator through carbon contactors called brushes.

You got the tomatoes wrong! You need to be pushing the tomatoes! Interesting review though! 🙂

It's easy to understand why spare parts are more expensive, when everything is made in france and has to be shipped to the usa.

I wasn’t talking about someone in the comments. I was referring to a certain magazine that does product tests.
