    Two years after making this video, I still regularly take Huel on hikes. They've added some good (and some mediocre) options to the Hot and Savoury line-up, with the mac 'n cheese as a comfort food standout. If you want to give it a shot, use this link to give us both a discount. Cheers! huel.mention-me.com/m/ol/je5za-appeltans-w

    Basic powder makes a really good porridge. Add hot water and stir
    Even better with cocoa powder or frozen fruits. I guess some dried fruits would work too

    • @BelgianHikers
      @BelgianHikers  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Absolutely. I don't like the powder when it's not mixed well - which is hard to do on the road. So 'porridge-style' is a good alternative.

    Brilliantly produced! This has got to be the best Huel advert I've seen! Intelligent, witty and satirical!
    @5:18 "I don't like it... I don't like it all..." But he can't stop eating it!

      Haha, thanks! Don't know if it works as an ad, since none of them has eaten Huel since 😅. I'm pretty sure they'd like the recent pasta-based Hot & Savory stuff though.

    You do not need to avoid chocolate as a vegan. There are many options like chocolade based on almond milk, wich tastes just like regular chocolate.

    Fantastic channel! Great job on the in-depth reviews on things relevant to Europeans! Way too little out there for us, and non which have a high quality like this. Keep up the good work!

      Thanks for the kind words! It does feel like we're a bit underrepresented on TH-cam, we'd be happy to change that 😊.

    hmmm by structure, did he perhaps mean texture? the bean texture vs the bean structure?

      Yeah, that sounds pretty plausible.

    Not sure if the "27 vitamins & minerals" remark was tongue-in-cheek, but there are actually 31 in total :)

    • @BelgianHikers
      @BelgianHikers  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ha, good to know! I was joking, but I couldn't have named the correct answer. 27 out of 31 sounds like enough. Still confused at why the US get an extra vitamin though. 🤔

    • @indorock
      @indorock 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BelgianHikers maybe because their FDA is more relaxed or maybe a broader definition of the term "vitamin"? Anyway, great video! I just got on the Huel bandwagon very recently, which is what led me to this video. Also being a bikepacker and sick of paying the premium prices for hiking-specific dehydrated meals, the Hot & Savoury seems like a great alternative! Although the bar graph you show does indicate the levels of carbs is much lower, which can be a concern when burning 1000s of calories during an all-day hike/bike ride. Worth a try though.

    • @BelgianHikers
      @BelgianHikers  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@indorock That sounds like a plausible explanation. I think Huel makes an excellent 'main course' for bikepacking. You'll probably eat lots of other stuff during the day, and many snacks contain a lot of fast carbs. It's the other, more nutritional stuff that's harder to come by.

      @@indorock pretty sure you can just consume more huel if you need more calories, it isn't like you will OD on protein.

    • @indorock
      @indorock 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@garethbaus5471 Yes sure, but when you're carrying your food around on you, you want the most nutritionally dense food you can get. Protein isn't an issue, weight is.

    Another outraged British person… great videos! I love Huel, I always take the hot and savoury with me on camps and hikes. Works perfectly and the nutritional composition is better than any other dehydrated meal. Oh yes, and perfect that all their food is vegan… subscribed to your channel, really enjoying your videos 👍

    • @BelgianHikers
      @BelgianHikers  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, hiking food can be a nutritional wasteland. I'm still looking for an ultralight way to take Huel with me on hikes. I put it in double-zip Ikea bags last time, but still ended up with powder in my backpack.

      It hasn’t really bothered me tbh, especially with the new flavors. There’s nothing about the mac n cheese or the spaghetti that tastes particularly vegan.
