I have owned a GV70 3.5TT for 2 months, 5,500km. Fortunately wait time was “only 3.5 months”. Car is brilliant and highly recommend the product. Agree the purchase comes with risk re service / resale etc however I have faith in Hyundai name. There is no question Genesis have some service gaps but as a new endeavour I’m sure will be ironed out over time. I completed a buyers survey and commented on a the gaps I observed, I was called by Genesis within 3 hours of completing the survey to discuss. I take that as one indicator they are serious about building a competitive service environment, they already have the product.
My genesis blew its engine 5k after regular warranty expired (i had extended warranty tough).....took 6 months to fix it and NO ONE gave a flying F about my complaints. I sold the POS right after, for peanuts becasue no one wants it. Proud owner of a Toyota now.
@@jonhopwood8128 - I find it surprising that he did not mention the model and year... which I think is common. Usually, it's an indication of someone lying. Maybe he'll eventually come back online with details.
I bought a GV70 3.5TT Luxury in December last year, it has now done 14,000klms. Your right it is a great car. Comfortable, fast and it has a pizzaz to the interior that even my MB driving mate appreciates. I would recommend it to anyone who is not concerned with the badge on their car. My good experience with a Hyundai i30 Fastback N led me to Genesis. In the current market I could sell this car for the drive away new price I paid for it. I could then start walking more. For anyone who likes the look of them go for it.
I think you’ll be disappointed. People who can spend 100k on a car won’t buy a used car for the price of a new one. The current market has inflated prices for used cars who’s new equivalent have wait times of a year. But with 100k I could walk into bmw and buy a better car and have it in a few days. Don’t get me wrong it’s a nice car but no one is paying 100k for a second hand one.
Just passed the 150000 on a g80 sedan 3.8 lt. Fantastic car , hardly any repairs after the warranty ended( much less than any of the euro I had) Amazing drive and quality
I recently purchased my 2023 Genesis GV70 3.5 Sports Prestige Melbourne grey matte finish. Gorgeous car in all aspects. I have owned MB, BMW and Audi. The luxury in this car is unbelievable. Red interior gorgeous. The tech also is great. Took a bit getting used to with the infotainment know and the gear shift but got passed that. Drives almost like my BMW 550i . My first car was a Hyundai back in 1986 so it has been come full circle. I have received so many compliments on my car since I purchased it in Dec last year. What tipped the scale was the warranties. Hands down! Love the car!
I've had my GV70 3.5 TT for 17 months and it's been a fabulous car. Better and more luxurious than any of the Mercs or BMWS I've ever owned. As far as resale value goes, an eqivalent Merc to the Genesis is $60K cheaper. After 5 years, even if the resale is 10% to 20% less, you'll still save a fortune in the long run. By the way, Genesis is happy to bring a car to you to test drive.
Brand snobs will balk at this car, but let them overpay for garbage. Owned a lesser kia cadenza and it is owned by Hyundai one of the best cars I've ever owned. Just bought this GV 80 and it's awesome. Traded in a porsche panamera for it if that tells you anything. This car is seriously legit.
Awesome. I purchased a 2015 Genesis 5.0 in the summer of 2021. As of today, I upgraded to a 2018 Genesis G80 5.0 HTRAC. I didn't think the car could be any better but boy am I wrong.
I own a Hyundai I30 sedan N and bloody love it. Amazing car, good power, good looks, good price, good service cost, good warranty. 8 speed DCT is spot on they nailed it.
Took delivery of a GV70 3.5T earlier this year. Beautiful, comfortable and unique looking car compared to my previous GLC. Its jammed-packed full of value as you say compared to the Germans without the hefty price tag. But I agree, in this competitive car market, you just can't have a good product alone to make the sales. I think they need to start marketing the brand and its products abit more along with good before and after sales customer service. Lexus is a great example of this. The experience has been good so far however. I've yet to received my first service or encountered any issues with my GV70. I love driving this car and listening to that twin turbo! 😁
I'm considering buying a new car and picking between GC70 and GLC300; having driven both cars would you mind giving some feedback & which one is more recommended and why? Thank you!
@@wendyli597 i haven’t driven either but i might still be able to give you some insight. the gv70 is probably slightly more reliable of the two. In my opinion, it’s also the more exotic one, and will definitely turn heads, if that’s something you care about. Tech-wise, i think the glc might win, but what i find really nice with the gv70 is the feature that allows it to leave a very tight parking spot without you getting inside, also works the other way around. If i were you, i’d get the gv70, with the diesel motor for slightly better efficiency but the glc 300 is also not a bad pick
Genesis just sent me the invoice yesterday and I expect my gv 70 to be picked up just next week. I. Compared it with Lexus NX and we picked Genesis. Lexus is probably more reliable but it's sheer boring to drive. Genesis is comparably more fun and for the price you get more features than german brands. Most important for me is that there aren't many gv 70 on road. Im just not the kind that would flow with mainstream. Just hope it's a reliable car... Fingers crossed.
I've got the 2023 gv70 3.5 and my buddy has the new lexus nx 300. We both agree the genesis is way more fun and drives better, so smooth in any driving mode! The only thing I love more about the Lexus were the comfortable seats compared to the ergo motion seat I ordered! lol
I think there's a difference between owning one long term and then for a lease period. I tend to buy used so that I can get into something much nicer with a FSH and a full check over. I wanted to look at Genesis, but they don't seem to be depreciating like I thought they would. Let's see once this new car supply thing is over and prices return to a more stable level.
As a top of the line 3:5 GV70 owner for 16 months and previous owner of several BMW’s and Audis I STRONGLY disagree with you (respectfully). Upon buying the car I was contacted to give consumer feedback. A few weeks later they needed to check something was carried out in the pre delivery inspection and picked it up in a covered flat bed, took it away and brought it back. My first service they did the same, picked it up, left me a G70, serviced and cleaned / returned (all free of charge). They have sent me a gift hamper after a year of ownership to say “thanks”. The “Hyundai Dealership” you refer to is neither of those things and makes perfect sense. It’s a GENESIS Studio, it’s designed to promote the brand - worked for me as I visited before the GV70 was even released and was so impressed I was one of the first GV70 owners in Australia. If you can think beyond the inner bogan, Tesla have done similar things with CBD studios and is a tried and tested approach to Branding so (again) I totally disagree that Genesis doesn’t brand themselves well. My GV70 turns heads everyday and is by far the best car I’ve ever owned. I had a near unlimited budget and was even looking at a $200k Audi, the GV70 Makes so much sense and has been faultless. Finally if you are advocating for paying $50k more to start with to reduce depreciation that’s an oxymoron. Genesis is absolutely killing it!
If Genesis marketing worked for you, then good for you The proof of the pudding is in the eating, if the Studio method results in satisfactory sales numbers, then they will be proven right. Personally, I think Tesla sell cars in spite of the studio methodology not because of. The Elon Musk brand does more than the shopping centre sales gimmick. No body as far as I've read is questioning the quality of the Genesis product P.S. No-one needed to know about your unlimited budget, it added nothing to the story.
John. We listened to you and bought a 2019 Sorento GT Line. Lovely car, when it works. Less than 20kms and the air con and steering (apparently a recall) have shit themselves. Kia is okay, not great, but okay. I still have my MY15 Audi A4 diesel Quattro, 65kms. Great car. We had looked into a replacement but being in Cairns we get the shaft with test driving and since COVID it’s non existent so driving 30kms to Parramatta is a small drive compared to getting on a plane to Brisbane to test drive a car. Can’t wait for this craziness to get back to normal where car makers don’t feel like they are doing me a favour to sell me a car. Regional people buy new cars too and wouldn’t mind the occasional test drive prior.
Sorry to heat that. I have a 2004 Kia Sorento EX with 112,000ish miles on it. I haven't had a single problem, short of an issue with the car door light wanting to stay on in year 18 of ownership. In fact, it's been such a good car that I just realized, I should get a new one!
I love it! Love it so much that instead of buying the first year model, I decided to hold off until it's been out a couple years to see how it does. I've had a Kia for 19 years. She's held up incredibly well, so I have to assume that this one would too! I'm one of those people who holds on to my car for at least a decade. Not worried about resale value as I drive my cars into the ground (I mean, 19 year old Sorento!). Appreciate your video. Thank you!
Like Lexus brand, It takes time for a luxury brand to establish them in the market. Hoping Genesis will stay long term as i would wanting to own one when my upgrade is due.
as G80 owner 2023 model 2.5T prestige trim avoid at all costs, me and so many owners we are suffered from the noise/rattles from the panoramic roof. mine replaced twice + did a TSB to fix...and still rattles!! unbelievable!! and im going sell it..I did everything to fix..its design issue!! only few owners still didnt get it yet...
I think GV70 competes with X3 - not X5. As far as their business model - they are trying to go the "tesla way" of selling - not a traditional brick and mortar dealership. They have a problem - convincing dealers to invest large amounts of money to have a dedicated dealerships and hyundai dealers also do not want to invest. It is very tough to re-educate existing dealerships as to how to cater to premium buyers. So they took the route of doing the sales themselves corporately instead of through dealers.
Crazy how wrong this comment is. Genesis is now building standalone dealerships everywhere as they are completely separating themselves from Hyundai. So i guess they invested those large amounts of money 😂
I was conned by an ad on Instagram for the g37 shooting break and the salesman rings me and tells me they don't have one to drive, but I can drive a sedan and it's basically the same, however they have one dealer in Melbourne, it's in prahan, which is inner city Melbourne. Originally they had a ones in outer suburbs Melbourne. It's put me right off it, why would I drive 45mins and not find a park to look at a car when BMW has a dealer around the corner finally?
The first 5 years are free (well, baked into the price) whereby a Genesis Concierge is supposed to pick up it from you, leave a Genesis loaner vehicle and drop it back when ready. However, they haven’t really bedded that service down yet in all states. Here in SA it’s outsourced to Hyundai and certainly no Genesis’s over here to leave in its place, even though they repeatedly asked for a vehicle and now have the sales here to warrant it.
As far as I know, the UK only has one Genisis showroom, and its in central London. A place famous for people not owning cars. Why on earth they didnt get dealers to co-locate like DS did in the UK with Citroen. I love the look of them, but i'm not going to do a 500 mile each way trip on an aeroplane. They say they'll take them to you, but there is something fun and special about a trip to see the shiny new stuff.
Why would a GV70 be compared to an X5? The mismatch is the main reason for the price difference. The GV70 would be equivalent to an X3 and the GV80 would be equivalent to an X5.
X3 wheelbase 2865mm, x5 wheelbase 2972mm, GV 70 wheelbase 2875… so I agree the x3 is THE competitor in size to gv70. Also x5 is wide enough to fit three child seats in the second row and also with a third row option. GV70, like x3, does not.
Tested the GV80 because it was just so damned beautiful! However, it's small (think Porsche Macan), smaller than I'd thought. They have so many options for the appearance of the car, and for how expensive cars have become, you'd think they'd offer more options too. I can't justify paying over 80k for the version I like for a car without the recognition for reliabiltiy. Beautiful is not a sellable commodity to me when it comes to my safety.
Hi John it's the same as the UK .I've actually test driven a GV70 an excellent car but I've actually not seen one on the road in the UK yet .No way I'm I going stick £45k into car I don't have a clue about its future value you can't even find a second hand Genasis in the UK it's like they are hiding them somewhere.I agree they dropped a clanger on how they market the brand .
Great work John. Like the recent content. I tried to get a test drive of a Genesis down here in Caaaanbrah. Too much of a pain so I bought my preferred car anyway. 2022 X3 M40i. Resale was not really a consideration. More that I couldn't see one in the wild and wasn't going to gamble on liking it. Again liking the new style content. Great work. #MALS
@@Zac-ek8nh I do, a 2023 genesis gv70 3.5t sport prestige with the 3d cluster display. Just hit 16k miles and still get all giggity before walking out to turn her on and throw it in sport mode. Smoothest ride I’ve had in a while, and I work in and out of dealerships. Don’t even get me started on the interior. Wonderful vehicle.
So, one could basically have a facelift i30N 6 speed manual AND a GV70 for the price of an X5? I already have the facelift i30N manual, I might join the line for a 3.5l twin turbo GV70.
I have a 2011 Genesis 3.8 (bought new) with over 325k miles with little issues. A few months ago I bought a 2012 in awesome shape with 100k. Expecting to get another 220k+ on the 2012.
Great content again. I’d compare the top spec GV70 with the X3 M40i. On the topic of finance, Cupra are doing a deal with GFV (30% on a 5 year term) and 2.99% interest rate. Genesis should take note.
But who knows the Cupra brand? What sort of warranty and dealer support do you get with that? If something goes wrong with the Cupra, how long will you wait for parts? Isn’t the Cupra essentially a SEAT , which is owned by VAG? Cupra is getting ultra competitive, to get some cars sold..
These so-called "luxury" barges tend to be depreciation disasters once the warranty expires which is why people offload them as quickly as possible once that happens
Agree with the N-line bullshit. We made 2 visits to a big H dealer recently. Showroom filled with N-line but zero real "N" cars. Our son wanted and got a petrol only i20 in mid range trim. Seven closer dealers (SW France) could not supply one. So the taxi of mum & dad made 2x 240km trips. His 1st new car & colour he wanted.
Agreed! Genesis' C-level leadership on down are just collecting a paycheck. They are incompetent and because they failed to launch the brand properly, they will be playing catch up for the next two decades in my opinion. Two stand alone dealerships in the US in going on six years?! Buying from a Hyundai dealership isn't a luxury brand experience. I'm no car snob either, as I own three KIA's. I've wanted to buy a Genesis, though they can't get their collective shit together. Instead of buying the G70 or G80, I bought the Stinger GT2 for much less. Same platform, same twin turbo engine, plus it's hatchback.
It's unfortunate that Genesis doesn't make getting potential customers behind the wheel of their cars, a high priority. I took a used 2017 G80 for a test drive and I was very impressed. Had the seller been more reasonable on his price, I would have bought it.
IMO: Genesis have no cars to sell, their waiting list 6-12+ months so their pathetically low volume is not indicative of their performance on the Australian market. GV70 drives very well and is well priced for all the goodies, compared to the big-3 overpriced Germans and Toyota/Lexus. I recently (Sep 2022) cancelled my order on GV70 2.5T AWD, because the contract price went up +$2-3K since I put my order in June 2022, and the waiting list expanded from 6 months quoted in June 2022 to ~8-9 months in Sep 2022 - for 2.5T. I decided not to commit my $80K (drive-away) for next 8-9 months knowing the price may well go up again and the waiting list looks to be closer to 12 months. No commodity new car is worth waiting for 12 months. The new car supply issues (for the popular/reliable brands) will likely exist for at least another ~12-18-24 months. My opinion therefore is this: 2022 and 2023 is a bad time to buy a new car, unless you really, really, really have to. It is best to defer the new car purchase until 2024-2025. I understand this plan is not for everyone. But if you can defer buying a new car, you will win. (I am assuming there is no new pandemic or a major war). Peace.
I can't get my head around buying a car from a catalogue, having to wait 12 months and then having agreed a price upon signing a contract, find it's going to cost thousands of dollars more. Sounds like complete madness to me.
Wow, I just stumbled onto your channel talking about my new car I just bought. Not only are you well informed and educated about the topic; but your are pretty damn funny. I’ll be subscribing to your channel just to hear you speak. Great job!
I thought Hyundai and Kia have had engine reliability issues. The depreciation issue is crazy with Genesis.. I am looking for a good SUV and local mechanic who works on everything says buy a Toyota. Reliable, easy to service and parts available. Toyota are basically where Holden used to be he says. I like the Rav 4. Lexus is just as good its Toyota with bells on with a similar reasonable-re-sale value to a Toyota.
Hyundai kia and genesis are pretty reliable cars it's only some models made in usa that had problems but now they fixed it overall its reliable for sure.
Of course a local mechanic will say buy Toyota lol. They last forever, and easy to work on. If you only care about that then sure but they are plain & boring. Even Lexus’s are plain boring and outdated
@@JGisMe2013not everyone wants the sportiest thing around. Some folks just wanna get from point A to point B. Especially with Biden, inflation and all of that, it’s getting hard for some folks to get something that may not be super reliable. Repairs can also get expensive!
It's an exclusive car made for premium customers who know what they wants and aren't afraid to wait for it. Buyers that demand quality and excellence through perseverance and mechanical engineering that is on the very cusp of modern technology, systems that weren't even possible 2 years ago have been hand crafted to excruciatingly fine detail to make fit for every customer worthy of the name, Genisis.
@@BoleDaPole Just like a Rolls Royce? Except you can get that in half the time, and have it made to your personalised specifications, and be driving the ultimate luxury status symbol ?
Genesis G70, G80, GV70 and GV80 have more bang for the dollar. And are just as reliable as a hills host. Some of the specks i've seen are very cool. I've delivered new Genesis cars to their new owners and picked up the trade ins. If people who are very well off are trading in their BMW's M-Benz and so on, what is saying. If the owner of a S Class Benz trades for a G80 and a Few months later the wife trades BMW X5 for a GV70. There is nothing more you can say. The product is of a premium level and is extremely reliable. The sales tactics are way off the track. But people with egos need to fluffed and stroked and by cars to feed that ego and leave all their cash at the service department. Don't quote me on this, one customer told me the price included 5-year service plan and 7-year warranty. You don't have to be a genius to work out to buy a Genesis. P.S Love the G70 Shooting Brake but until it comes with the 3.3TT will not buy.
Just can't believe a car manufacturer can stare you in the face and tell you it will be 12 months until delivery and expect you to be good with that. I will wait to the industry settles down .....
G70 Brake issues around 22000 km, asked to fix it during annual service, didn’t get done, as the issue wasn’t severe only when breaking at 100 Km/h, called few months after to get looked at no call backs form Genesis on number of occasions, next annual service dealer tell me Genesis didn’t authorise repair, reach out to Genesis again no warranty Brake Shudder warranty 12 month only. Get a KIA Stinger Service & warranty is better.
I have 2015 genesis 3.8 sedan best car I have owned. I love the car smooth ride not as fast but at the same time is a luxury car not a race car. I do agree depreciation is not good for this car I do want the newer one later on.
They're a bunch of marketing idiots. They think they are elevating Genesis to a higher level by refusing to connect it to Hyundai, but all they're doing is sabotaging it. If they just had a separate section for Genesis at Hyundai dealers, with glorious showrooms that look a bit more special than the Hyundai section, they'd be selling these things like hotcakes. They'd make 10 times more money than they are by selling a handful of unobtainium Genesis models, and the bottom line would look a whole lot better. We mature enough to handle the idea that Genesis is made by Hyundai. As it stands, it's likely to fail as a business and it's quite probable that you won't be able to buy a Genesis in Australia in 5 years time. They'll conclude that it's because Aussies rejected the product, but it's purely on their dealer strategy. Shame really. Good product being shot in the foot.
Nobody pretends Lexus isn't made by Toyota on Toyota platforms with Toyota drive trains etc. They're nicer, quieter, smoother luxury cars made by Toyota. Genesis marketing could learn from that.
BMW put M Sport badges on everything these days, but they are very far from a true “M” BMW. So where’s the harm in Hyundai putting an N on everything? Works for BMW..
Had a 2022 GV70 3.5 for 31k miles trade in value $51k for a 2023 G80 AWD 2.5 Sport Prestige and love them both . GV70 for the 18 months was flawless and 2 months into the G80 likewise. I know it’s nice to have Hyundai $ behind them but Genesis really gets to do their own thing if you dig and read up on them. Got a lot of talent out of BMW and Bentley and let them alone to drive the product design and development, they didn’t pay big $ for that talent just to tell them what to do. So you can say Hyundai and Genesis in the same breath but you’re not accurate. As for the gear selector and the confusion, oh my such a catastrophic disaster that brings to your life! At 80 mph going down the interstate and you turn the wrong dial you know what happens….not a damn thing but a message you turned the wrong dial. So you know what you do, you turn the other one, it’s so complicated 🤪 Push a button on a Palisade, and others are also shift by wire, you figure out where the MB gear selector is yet? Sorry John…it sounds like it sucks to be in AU for now but for a six year old company I think Genesis has hit the market with eye popping attention. Sales are strong in the states and they sell every unit and their production looks to be surpassing pre-pandemic numbers. Maybe they should have stayed out of other countries markets until they had their capacity and dealership network figured out, but it’s hard to put the toothpaste back in the tube now.
You make it sound like Parramatta is on another planet. Get a grip mate Parramatta is considered the centre of Sydney and is already considered to be the new Central Business District of "Sydney"
I did buy a Sonata N-Line but they never let me test drive their test car on the HWY 🤦🏻♂ They're lucky I was sold on the sonata already because normally I'd want a full test drive with highway driving. Seems they don't know the full recipe on how to sell cars!
I appreciate your knowledge. So I have a question and would like for opinion. I have chauffeur biz and I driven Tesla's, Denali, Yukon, and etc. My thing is I want to provide a premium vehicle on a budget with a great warranty switch cars every 2yrs or so and I'm torn between the Genesis and the Rivian. Thoughts?
A better comparison is against a Porsche Macan GTS as they have comparable size and performance. A Macan GTS optioned up to be comparable to a standard Genesis 3.5 G70 is nearly $80,000+ more expensive. Also, you cannot compare the quality of Kia and Genesis. Look at the squashed front seat bolsters on 2 year old Kia Sorrento's. Totally F**ked.
Bad idea! We sold our GV80 Prestige after one year of ownership and 2 winters of driving. Tech problems, mech problems, no dedicated dealerships and the absolute worst customer service of any vehicle we’ve ever owned. Never again!
You missed one major constituent, BMW have been making premium luxury vehicles for many decades, Genesis...may take some time to change the current paradigm.
Love the presentation. We went to the dealer in Werribee, Victoria for a test drive, we didn't like it so we kindly told them we will think about it (instead of telling them the car is sux and we hated it). The freaking manager told the saleman to keep us there and the poor saleman ran in and out of the office to deliver the manager messages. They should know we hated the car but the manager insist on give us the good deal so on and so forth. Finally, I told the saleman, look mate, we got to go, we will let you know if we decided to go ahead. Long story short, the manager wanted to beat the shit out of the customer because the we didn't give him the time he needs to convince us to buy the fking car. I got camera rolling and the bastard backing off.
I liked the GV70 when it first came out especially the diesel one but after the hoopla.... tumbleweeds. It would be a better proposition than a Merc long term and a hell of a lot more satisfying to own cost aside. BUT! I live in Adelaide so if I win Lotto on Saturday, I have to drive my humble Kia to Melbourne or fly to Perth. Not going to be a lot of interest in servicing it here either methinks. It joins the list of Euros I will not be buying. Lexus doesnt really do it for me either so I would probably go for a new Sportage. Humbler but more obtainable and probably just as satisfying to own. It is hilarious that you can't take a car for a drive from a *cough/splutter* flagship dealer. Maybe they should listen to people like you John. I like what I saw of the Ioniq 6 but how long will we wait to be able to take one home? Even if I had millions in my back pocket, waiting 12 months for a car is not in my to do list no matter how much I like it.
Genesis has the product but a lousy retail model. It is such a shame seeing the GV80 is such a beauty to drive and over long distances, is a beauty to sit in as a passenger. They need to get their $h!t together commercially in the retail and service aspect of things. I am not saying they have $h!t customer support, (like three prong, Audi etc) I am saying they need to plot the course down the well worn road of the path of Kia, and Hyundai i.e. have a presence everywhere. If they get the retail/service side sorted, they should be able to pull three pronged and beaten death star customers with relatively little work. I won't buy three prong, or VAG junk ever again. I am done with all that junk. BMW is I don't know, better than three prong, etc, etc.
Drove one the sport Premier it was a nice car GV/70 .Taxes fees dealer mark up 58000 all I wanted was the advance model MSRP 45.000 was told they don’t know if we will ever get one one dealer wanted 62 remember if this car is totaled or stolen all you get from the insurance company is MSRP you will not own it It will own you. Before I will pay 687. Per month for 74 months I’ll buy a base Porsche Cayenne
Hey John, I'm looking for a dual cab ute, live on an acreage so need for landscaping work several times a year then like to camp with the family so towing capacity for a trailer tent plus load is needed! We're thinking the Navara and BT-50.. Hilux is off the list due to Toyota sticking with their own technology which is out of date for the price they want to charge! Thoughts?
On the whole “slutting out” the n badge, I couldn’t agree more… n needs to be kept for the hardcore stuff…. What was wrong with calling the “warm” i30 the sr and sr premium? I’m in the market for a runabout to get me to work and the nline i30 is at the top of my list, but having driven that and spend time in both the DCT and manual i30n it’s bloody chalk and cheese….
Could have just said from the very beginning it's a good reliable car to buy...USED. Sadly Genesis dealerships (here in the USA) their service departments are for total shit & worthless basically. Nothing but complaints with service & warranty broken promises. So yeah, if I get me a G90 it will be used and out of warranty I would never want to be held to ANY warranty contracts with Genesis. Sure I'd probably have to eventually buy parts maybe from Genesis but that is it. Otherwise I would 100% use my own mechanic & would never go to the Genesis dealership service EVER!
Thats where we differ john i wouldnt touch a bmw with a 40ft barge pole. I bought a Stinger Gt TT i looked at the Genisus G70 just didnt need it Stinger is more then enough for me. After working fir a mechanic for almost 20 years i wouldnt give shit for a BMW. Shit i would buy a 3 prong before a beemer and thats saying something lol.
It's such a shame about Genesis as they're beautiful cars and I'd own one in a heartbeat if I could, but they sure as shit have their heads in the sand with how they're marketing them, then they scratch their head thinking why aren't they selling..................
i'm waiting on delivery on new gv70 2.5. I couldn't justify paying 10k more for the 3.5 for 75 horsepower. I am trading in a G70 that's 4 yrs old . Great car except the tires and rims. Sport tires is only way it comes and the roads in NY are terrible and the rims bend
German cars too expensive. The GV70 with Gucci upholstery looks like a Bentley and looks so classy - I'm thinking a 3 year old used GV70 2.2 diesel [in 2026] will be good but so few are being sold [in the UK] that such a 'bargain' may not exist at all.
Love comparison between Genesis and BMW.One note though BMW are lying about power and 0-60.Anyone who drove B58 will tell you that those engines are smooth monsters with more than 400hp.I do like Genesis but is more in Q5 category than X3.
John…, could ya crank my Hyundai code please.., paid them every cent and every service.. car had transmission fault from 2 months old… 4 years later.. they still won’t return emails.. What the secret code?
have owned a G70 3.3TT since 2019. almost hit 70,000km. no problem at all. very powerful. am so loving this beauty.
@@marekkurwa Which Genesis?
@@jonhopwood8128 - I find it surprising that he did not mention the model and year... which I think is common. Usually, it's an indication of someone lying. Maybe he'll eventually come back online with details.
Cool. If I need a car to last 2 months, I'll take your advice.
Fantastic car , hardly any repairs after the warranty ended( much less than any of the euro I had)
Amazing drive and quality
Genesis is no longer a secret. I've got a 2018 g90. Run it hard. 107k miles. Not a single issue. Best highway car I've ever owned.
I’m so jealous of you
I'm considering buying a new car and picking between GC70 and GLC300; having driven both cars would you mind giving some feedback & which one is more recommended and why?
The only thing I love more about the Lexus were the comfortable seats compared to the ergo motion seat I ordered! lol
How has it been up till now
@@Leosteel1 like new. Just done first complimentary service.
I will take the Genesis over the Lexus in a heartbeat!
If you can think beyond the inner bogan, Tesla have done similar things with CBD studios and is a tried and tested approach to
Branding so (again) I totally disagree that Genesis doesn’t brand themselves well.
My GV70 turns heads everyday and is by far the best car I’ve ever owned. I had a near unlimited budget and was even looking at a $200k Audi, the GV70
Makes so much sense and has been faultless.
Finally if you are advocating for paying $50k more to start with to reduce depreciation that’s an oxymoron.
Genesis is absolutely killing it!
If Genesis marketing worked for you, then good for you
The proof of the pudding is in the eating, if the Studio method results in satisfactory sales numbers, then they will be proven right.
Personally, I think Tesla sell cars in spite of the studio methodology not because of. The Elon Musk brand does more than the shopping centre sales gimmick.
No body as far as I've read is questioning the quality of the Genesis product
P.S. No-one needed to know about your unlimited budget, it added nothing to the story.
@@CommercialFree78 read again “near unlimited budget”, I ain’t Elon Musk!
How did his budget not help. It tells you that the cars that cost way way more arent anymore appealing
Seems to me if their product is good but depreciation a problem then buying a second hand one the way to go
People must like them none available second hand yet...

Was hoping to hear a bit about the maintenance cost/warranty support implications of a Genesis. Future video idea?
GV70 vs X5: within 100mm wheelbase. So: same size. Duuuuude.
@@AutoExpertJC It's still objectively not a direct competitor, otherwise the X3 itself would be a competitor of the X5 😂

I think the rosetta stone was the code breaker. absolutely love all your videos john. information is power.
The G90 Full Electric version in 2024 would be the one to get !
Oh hell no. Depreciation nightmare and dealers will not budge.
The x5 is equivalent to gv80
Gv70 is equal to x3
Great work. #MALS
At least you got it right GV70 compares to X3 or (X4) not X5.
You should have gambled it, because the genesis is better.
@Nastynvte do you own a genesis? The GV series?
@@Zac-ek8nh I do, a 2023 genesis gv70 3.5t sport prestige with the 3d cluster display. Just hit 16k miles and still get all giggity before walking out to turn her on and throw it in sport mode. So, one could basically have a facelift i30N 6 speed manual AND a GV70 for the price of an X5? I already have the facelift i30N manual, I might join the line for a 3.5l twin turbo GV70.
John has got his facts slightly off. GV70 competes with X3 (orX4) not the X5 which is much larger (and more expensive).

Just bought one, what a car, absolutely love it.
@@paulsz6194 Who knows Genesis. For the average Joe on the street both are unknown.
And here in Australia the Stinger still turns heads.

Loving all the content John.
Peace.
I think the wait list issue effects the number of sales as you have said, it's not just poor marketing.
I can't get my head around buying a car from a catalogue, having to wait 12 months and then having agreed a price upon signing a contract, find it's going to cost thousands of dollars more. Sounds like complete madness to me.

I love the Genesis but just don't understand why you can't get a V8 in Australia. Rather buy a 2009 E500 Mercedes.
Sounds a bit like Mercedes with their snobbery making it an exclusive thing to drive one. So exclusive people don't bother!
Nobody pretends Lexus isn't made by Toyota on Toyota platforms with Toyota drive trains etc. They're nicer, quieter, smoother luxury cars made by Toyota. Genesis marketing could learn from that.
Worked like a charm!! Thanks!!!

You could drive your Kia to Perth. It's easy, left at Port Augusta, right at Norseman and you're practically here. I've done that trip many times :)
I think they’re great !!
Now that you mention it John, have you ever tried the Nurburgring, on Playstation Gran Turismo?
Very difficult track tbh. ☺👍
"two words about sex and travel"! That's gold!
I have 2016 Genesis - perfect, comfortable, quick and reliable car. Very happy with it.
Drove one the sport Premier it was a nice car GV/70 .Taxes fees dealer mark up 58000 all I wanted was the advance model MSRP 45.000 was told they don’t know if we will ever get one one dealer wanted 62 remember if this car is totaled or stolen all you get from the insurance company is MSRP you will not own it
It will own you. Before I will pay 687. Per month for 74 months I’ll buy a base Porsche Cayenne
If I had the money for one I’d buy one
I will still stay behind the steering wheel of my GV70 2.2...who care there are fewer on the road.
Thoughts?
navara getting updated soon and interior is shit. i wouldn’t touch that
i’d go Ranger or BT50/D Max
On the whole “slutting out” the n badge, I couldn’t agree more… n needs to be kept for the hardcore stuff…. What was wrong with calling the “warm” i30 the sr and sr premium? I’m in the market for a runabout to get me to work and the nline i30 is at the top of my list, but having driven that and spend time in both the DCT and manual i30n it’s bloody chalk and cheese….
Genesis salesman brought the test drive car to our house, twice.
A better comparison would be the BMW X3 440i or even better the 3.0 diesel BMW
Australia is the Little Leages....in California they are kicking @ss.
The resale value is going to suck plain and simple if you going to keep it till the wheels fall off then buy it if not hard pass
BMW dealer tried to hit us up for $4K PD on a new Z4 in 2005.
It's such a shame about Genesis as they're beautiful cars and I'd own one in a heartbeat if I could, but they sure as shit have their heads in the sand with how they're marketing them, then they scratch their head thinking why aren't they selling..................
Where's this flagship dealership in Sydney? Didn't even know there was one.
Sydney in the city has a show room only, but the main dealership for test drives and variety is in parramatta.
In a showroom in the centre of the CBD in a pedestrian area. I don’t know the address but mot hard to find
i'm waiting on delivery on new gv70 2.5. I couldn't justify paying 10k more for the 3.5 for 75 horsepower. I am trading in a G70 that's 4 yrs old . Great car except the tires and rims. Sport tires is only way it comes and the roads in NY are terrible and the rims bend
German cars too expensive. The GV70 with Gucci upholstery looks like a Bentley and looks so classy - I'm thinking a 3 year old used GV70 2.2 diesel [in 2026] will be good but so few are being sold [in the UK] that such a 'bargain' may not exist at all.
this fucking savage with his comic sans cheat notes 🤣🤣🤣
Love comparison between Genesis and BMW.One note though BMW are lying about power and 0-60.Anyone who drove B58 will tell you that those engines are smooth monsters with more than 400hp.I do like Genesis but is more in Q5 category than X3.
John…, could ya crank my Hyundai code please.., paid them every cent and every service.. car had transmission fault from 2 months old… 4 years later.. they still won’t return emails..
What the secret code?
what's wrong with a good old fashioned phone call?
@@seth1455
That was the first 2 years
The interior of those cars look nice, but the exterior looks vanilla. It gives me Buick feels but with a hint of modern and touch of Chrysler lol
Is this video inspired in anyway by Uncle Doug's9 recent G90 review?
Hey does a pretty good review old Uncle Doug.
Who?
( Not trying to be a smart arse)
Try and get any support or information about Staria parts. Your dreaming.
