I wish there was a car care nut type channel for Hyundai because no one goes into detail about the specifics. GDI engines in the Sontas for example fail because they burn oil and run low. But no one goes into detail about how it has the same root cause as some of Volvo's (some of their newer stuff) or Toyota's [2azfe] engine failures, low tension piston rings tolerating *ZERO* neglect with oil changes, with just 1 or 2 10k mile oil changes [instead of 5k Mile/6 Months] being enough to seize them up, and eventually mess everything up. Although to Volvo and Toyota's credit, their engines are still more consistent when problems show up in my horribly biased opinion
@@anotherhuman8211 What junk of an engine needs oil changes at 6 months? Don't think there is any engine produced for past 20 years that requires an oil change at 6 months. Maybe invest in synthetic oil and skip the junk?
I own that car but it was the last year of that model, 2014. Still own it and it has 119k miles. Ten years of ownership and it's the lowest cost maintenance car I have ever owned. And I have owned MBZ, Nissan, Jaguar....all top line models, not the cheap models.
Most people drive over 1k miles a month. That said, if you change your oil at 5k miles, then you are changing it roughly every 5 months or even less. If you are still changing oil at 3k miles like we used to back in the day, you were changing it at least 4 times per year. My car "Recommended" oil change at 10k, which I thought was ludicrous, so I use full synthetic and change at 5k.

@@anthonywbelcher It depends on the state. But even in places that do, you can usually get a temporary tag to drive it for a short period of time to be able to get it to the mechanic and whatnot. Which would be enough for this car. Hoovie didn't even expect it to go 5 miles before dying, and he knew full well what was wrong when he purchased it. It was always intended to be a scrap car for parts for Euro-Asian Bob. This video was just about how many holes it would put in the block with its dying breath. It turns out it was a respectable 3 or more.
The 3.8L V6 that Hyundai makes is damn near bulletproof. So if it sounds that bad, then you can definitely blame the prior owner. I had one and drove it for from 90k to 190k with Zero engine issues.
Ngl. I've seen so many of these hit 300k miles. The owner never gave it an oil change. I'm going to buy one next year. 230k miles on my 3.3 Sonata, and 207k miles on my Genesis coupe 2.0t
This is such a stereotypical car of people that are broke. I can almost tell you the girl that owned the car and her boyfriend that drove her car ALL the time, while she was working a minimum wage job.
Rod banging around in the engine and Hoovie decides to rev it to the moon, then he is like "What?!?" when they uncover bits and a giant hole in the block. LOL Pretty much exactly what you would expect. A lot like adding nitrous to a Prius
Owned a 2012 and currently a 2017 G80. Both bought used and were an outrageous amount of car for the money. Transmission (made by BMW supplier lol) went on the first but no other issues. Absolutely no issues with second one at 90k and counting.
I suspect that the issues with Hyundai cars are mostly due to poor maintenance and upkeep by their owners. I have owned several Hyundai cars myself - my previous one had 480,000 km on the odometer when I replaced it (still functioning) with my current one, which already has 320,000 km on it. Both have a 1.6L diesel engine. I’m not sure if the problems are more common with gasoline engine versions or specifically with models designed for the U.S. market. The diesels, at least, seem to be extremely durable and reliable, among the most dependable cars available. And my experiences are based on cars in Finland, where roads are heavily salted, and the freezing temperatures and overall weather conditions are generally far from ideal for keeping cars in good condition.
I've seen it many times. I had employees in the past with junkers like that - one guy had an older Maxima and the brakes were making a scraping sound. He didn't know anything about cars, and I told him dude, you need to get new pads, because your rotors are metal to metal. He just kept driving it. A few weeks later, he heard a loud clanking sound and lost his brakes. Two rotors were literally like old-fashioned vinyl record albums - just thin disks, and had broken off of the center of the rotor and were flopping around. They tore up the calipers and severed one brake line.
We have a 2018 Genesis G90 5.0, and a 2019 Genesis G80 3.8, and they have never given us any trouble. The cars are kept clean inside and out, and are maintained as per the maintenance schedules. They have proven to be quite comfortable, easy to drive cars with quiet, roomy cabins, comfortable seats with plenty of amenities and driver-assistance equipment such as lane-keeping assist, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, multiple cameras and parking sensors. We often feel quite spoiled. Our only worry is that if something should happen to one of them, the prices on the newer models have climbed up out of our reach financially. Our dealership regularly services cars just like ours that have high mileage, including a G80 that has over 260K miles on the odometer. Any machine will wear out given enough time and use. Regular maintenance, and overall driving habits have a large impact on whether or not a car remains on the road or not. We feel these cars have been an excellent value.
Passengers seat was cut by a knife too, that's not wear tears... So someone's teen girlfriend of boyfriend lost their temper... Possibly the source of the rock / concrete type damage on the roof?

The v6 engines from Hyundai/Kia were always solid. The modern one in the g70 is and others is no exception. This one is mostly likely bad owners. Even Toyotas neglected this hard will die I never got the writing on the dash thing though....just low class to me
I'm experiencing this same issue right now. My 2014 Hyundai Sonata SE 2.0T with 106k miles is dying. Not completely dead but definitely about to die. Never missed an oil change and still having engine problems. Now I need to convince the dealership to honor the lifetime powertrain warranty that came out of a class action lawsuit settlement...😢

Hoopties are just much more relatable to the majority of the population. And I kinda miss the five-years-ago time, when Tyler did videos about him buying cheapest cars on the market and bringing them back on the road (or not). Then owning them for a while and saying goodbye to them in the next videos. Better times, I guess.
**hears bad engine noise** adds different fluids until something happens..... lol
Hyundai V6s are typically pretty reliable, I’d go on a limb judging by the rest of the car that it was not maintained 🤣
More money way was spent on the weed smoked inside that car than any maintenance.
The epitome of being spoiled is being handed down a nice used car and beating the absolute shit out of it and neglecting every square inch of it. I had shittier cars as a teenager and I cherished them and took very good care of them.
Exactly. Even though my family is wealthy and my daily is a Mercedes, I still maintain it to a very high standard and take really good care of it. I previously had a few old Subarus and I still took really good care of them too. It is more of a case of being raised humbly or spoiled. Thank god I was raised humbly.
Being spoiled is not having to do anything to get stuff. Tyler has worked hard to get where he is and does this for your entertainment. And, money, of course. So how is he spoiled?
@@Konszky Tyler isn’t spoiled, the previous owner of that genesis was most likely a kid who got that car from his/her parents and then beat the hell out of it. I’ve seen seen this story before

you probably actually maintain your car, i think this is a case of lazy bad owners more than hyundai being bad
No doubt you keep it maintained. That's the secret.
Same, I have a 2011 4.6 that just hit 123,456 miles(had to take a picture of it today). I bought it in 2018 for 12,000 and have taken care of it since. Not one issue in all that time! I still love it.
My mom's friend has one, and even though it drinks oil, it is still doing good enough at 300,000 miles. I should add that it has not lived an easy life, at all.
My wife and I have a 2013 Genesis sedan same color V6 155k and still runs like a champ.. This car has been a great vehicle. We have logged many many miles in this car. Great value for the money.

My impression of Korean cars is that if you take care of them, they'll last a long time; I still see mid-90s Hyundais on the road here in the PNW. This isn't an Euro/American thing where some things just fall apart no matter what you do, but it's not the Toyota/Honda thing where you kinda can't kill them unless you try.
My 2005 Elantra that is at 243,000 miles agrees with you.
The 90s to early 2000s is where Hyundai made their most reliable cars
Hoovie is back baby! Coming full circle after the Bugatti. Very poetic
Hyundai engine lasting 230k is not junk at all. Ford would have tapped out at 140
My 2011 Escape has 140k and still runs ok.
My old Hyundai 2.7l looked perfect at 200k miles when I tore it down, only replaced for a lower mile motor for boost
The people who drove these new couldn’t be convinced they weren’t an S-class Benz lmao
That Genesis looks like a 4th owner south bronx special 😂
You should send that engine to Eric at I Do Cars

Another channel I watch is South Main Auto, New York mechanic. You will see him work on cars, that somehow have an inspection tag.
He's made comments about it before, and that he as a mechanic can't report other shops.

I would love to see this engine get torn down on the I Do Cars yt channel
I came here to say this
I thought he'd already torn down a Tau V8.
And my experiences are based on cars in Finland, where roads are heavily salted, and the freezing temperatures and overall weather conditions are generally far from ideal for keeping cars in good condition.
i'll never understand how someone can spend ANY amount on a car and let it get like this

@JohnCaughell understandable
@@FinancialStorm7😂
I've seen it many times. I had employees in the past with junkers like that - one guy had an older Maxima and the brakes were making a scraping sound. He didn't know anything about cars, and I told him dude, you need to get new pads, because your rotors are metal to metal.
He just kept driving it.
A few weeks later, he heard a loud clanking sound and lost his brakes. Two rotors were literally like old-fashioned vinyl record albums - just thin disks, and had broken off of the center of the rotor and were flopping around. They tore up the calipers and severed one brake line.
Her name was Summer and at night she would change it to Genesis!
The Genesis ended at Omega, how prophetic.
Came looking for this comment, was not disappointed.
255k miles and my Suburban still drives like it did in 2004, & I still love it! Lol kinda still love it….
