I think you found a niche with the old school BMX bikes. I enjoy watching you take them apart and put them back together brings back a lot of childhood memories. I still have my bike from when I was a kid so many people asked me to buy it, but I’ll never sell my 1985 blue hutch judge
Sick Performer and Limo!!! Steel wool grade # 0000 and WD 40 also works awesome on removing rust off chrome. Im Restoring a 84 OG chrome GT Pro Performer that sat directly out in the Phoenix Az sun/monsoons for decades that was riddled with surface rust. You couldn't even turn the handlebars, cranks and axles.I thought I was going to have to powder coat the frame which would of been sac religious. I gave it a shot and the chrome looks like it came out of Phus shop right off the showroom floor back in 84 w/no rust or scratches . After steel wool, I rubbed it out w/some Mothers chrome aluminum polish. Works amazing on restoring old muscle car bright work/trim as well .Nice resto tricks Phu!!!! Love ur 80s builds!!!!
I just bought 2 haro bikes a 2010 top am and a 2015 top am plus got a third bonus bike. An old mongoose sniper all for 200 bucks and all look like new. I rebuilt them all. Totally worth my money 😃
Great, now I want a GT Performer! I just finished a restoration on my old Redline 5-Spot and have been looking for another old-mid school project. I have a couple of modern bikes (Redline MX-24, Fit XXL 20" TRL) but there is just something about the way the old bikes take me back to my childhood. I am almost 50 and remember drooling over the Performer in BMX Plus! and ended up with a Cycle Pro (turquoise Mag F/S w/ white Peregrine mags) because my shop couldn’t get one for a month and I didn’t want to wait. Keep clickin’ Alfredo!
The foil hack is the lazy way, if you really care you need to get in there with a knife , a cloth and good metal polish. It's painfully slow but the results are way better.
Steel wool has always been my friend when it comes to chrome cause if that don’t work then it needs to be re-chromed. Cause if all you are doing is scratch the surface like sand paper that rust is just going to come back.
I did put a GT mag in my mom's freezer trying to straighten it out... it was so bent....she got so mad 😂 ..I can't remember if it worked or not I was like 13 I'm 43 now ...an thank you for the videos brings back memories I had forgotten 💯💯💯💯💯💯♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Keep it how it is with the Patina! It will look great! New tires, tubes, pads and chain are all safety items and should be replaced! I don’t know if you guys would want to try it but since it’s a white bike and he wants to give it a wash look up “comet wash”. Like the sink cleaner. It works great and will really make that white pop!
That was my dream bike back then! I used to go into the bike shop multiple times a week and just check it out. I ended up getting a used purple one instead for 250 bucks but I still loved it just as much.
My buddy just sold me a OG 80 Schwinn SX-2000 survivor he found thrown out with the garbage. I paid $100 bucks for it and this video was very helpful thank you🤘
Careful with the aluminum foil, I’ve seen it scratch chrome handlebars. Usually if you barely apply any pressure it seems to work okay tho. Great video, learned some helpful stuff for my resto project
For the plastic parts to add shine or life back into them put Vaseline on the parts let it soak in or chapstick works to work it in to coat the parts then you can either sand the parts or wipe em down to see what is needed after
That Performer is my absolute dream bike. I remember the first time I ever saw one, it was the light blue '87. I saw it at the local bike shop, and I've been in love with it ever since. I wish survivor bikes weren't so damn expensive, I'd love to own my childhood dream bike. Though, I can't complain about my current BMX, I'm absolutely in love with it. I just upgraded a bunch of stuff, and grabbed the Shadow Sabotage sprocket for it (in purple, to match with the rest of the purple I just added top my bike, lol)
If the old chain is really knackered then the sprocket/chainring might be as well so a new chain won't mesh very well. It might be rideable but the worn teeth will cause the new chain to wear more quickly. You should look at the teeth of the sprocket/chainring, if they are looking like a shark fin (curved on one side and straight on the other) they're knackered. If the old chain is only a bit worn and the sprocket/chainring looks okay then replace the chain now and the sprocket/chainring will last longer.
I used to have those back in the day. Profile is better I think but back in the day my friends had the flights. I got the profile cranks for Xmas and they were like $150
Chrome plating is harder than aluminum that's why it's not affecting the surface. Try this on anything else like polished aluminum though and be prepared to drive yourself crazy with hairline scratches.
I was wondering when you guys were gonna show those old school bikes. I have at least 5 Gt performers. I’d keep the chain and try to restore it later especially if it’s GT stamped. Until then I’d put a chrome one on there. Personally I’d tear the bike down and give everything a good cleaning. Keep it og and add the new tires and brake pads. If the bike was completely trashed I’d go for a complete restore. Show more videos like this with the old school bikes!
I would rather have a free agent than a red line only cause I think they are more rare. Even though they still make them today there probably still less of them being made compared to redline.
Not guna lie, the metal file on the ogk rims made me cringe lol. I wonder how many times that can be done before you reach the point of no return. Also, just run white brake pads? Or would the dye remove the black eventually. Prolly take many a few times. Nice video
Id ride that bike as-is. Those kools stops are good and also loud on even mags, lol. ask me how i know. I took them off my gt 87 gt pro freestyle i built a few months ago,i dont wanna be heard while riding that bike around. You should srub those mags with soft scub w/bleach then put salon 40 hair developer with a brush on them, and then wrap them with cling wrap and leave in the sun for hours turning them over every 2 hours evenly and they will be like new.
That aluminum foil trick will now be a part of my tool box..
Dude SAME
Use wd40 with the alfoil. Its much better then rubbing it dry.
Also, alfoil doesn't scratch the chrome because alfoil is weaker than chrome.
Does it work on neochrome
Fine xxxx steel wool and wd40 always worked for me
Every person who owns a BMX or bike should watch this🔥
A lot of these aren't race bike BMX their truck bikes Dyno,Gt and so on atleast know the difference.

My dad turnt that same performer yellow n fixed it up around 95..still thankfull 2 this day. Thanks dad
I would like to see Phu dye a set of wheels.
Great video. I plan to restore my 1978 Torker as a retirement project within the next few months.
I love the old school frames want to upgrade my old old bmx
I would watch every episode of that full tear down and bike restoration video guaranteed.
Your the man, i wish the east coast had shops like this. Thank you
🙏🏻🙌🏻
East coast rust ain’t like west coast rust we have to watch the Europeans ideas for rust and stuff 😂
I have a set of those profile cranks on my Homeless Mack....with Shimano DX pedals..... very nice cranks.
He knows his stuff and he is correct the clear kool stop brake pads work really good.

Do a full resto job Phu!! Liked the video!
Could do a build up of an old bike with new school parts?
I just bought 2 haro bikes a 2010 top am and a 2015 top am plus got a third bonus bike. An old mongoose sniper all for 200 bucks and all look like new. I rebuilt them all. Totally worth my money 😃
After coming back to bmx & general cycling for over 30 years, i find this very informative & entertaining ❤💯
Thanks for that foil tip. I just got a used WTP justice and the bars really need a good foil rub down.

Sending love out! what a great conversation to hear from you about restoring an old school GT
What i needed 👍
💯💯👍🏻
Great video Alfred!!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Back in the day in Texas we were blacking out old chains with re-bluing solution from Wal mart, looked pretty sick back in 88'
Yes we want a full restoration
Steel wool has always been my friend when it comes to chrome cause if that don’t work then it needs to be re-chromed. Cause if all you are doing is scratch the surface like sand paper that rust is just going to come back.
That foil hack is a O.G motorcycle hack. Works hella good too.
Nice retro ..and chrome chain radness
Keep it how it is with the Patina! It will look great! New tires, tubes, pads and chain are all safety items and should be replaced!

You're exactly right, it is beautiful and I did have one I had the green one, then the Dayglow pink Pro freestyle tour team model, 87
Love that you point out what WD40 is.. I've been in too many conversations about the fact that it is a cleaner, not lubricant.
Agreed. People don't usually find about this until after they've cleaned all the lubricant out of the part that needed it.
That was my dream bike back then! I used to go into the bike shop multiple times a week and just check it out. I ended up getting a used purple one instead for 250 bucks but I still loved it just as much.

I'd do a blue or pink chain to match the stickers.
Add a little water or WD-40 when using the aluminum foil.
That limo is pure midschool goodness. By the way flight single pinch bolts vs profile gen 1. No comparison profile is the daddy of 3 PC cranks.
Thank phu and alf! Needed this for my chrome dartmoor cody.
That foil works on car rims and bumpers too. Purple chain
i used vinegar and foil to remove the rust on my chrome 96 mongoose villain frame and it works like magic
Man, I miss my villain
Mine was a 99
Phu's gt performer is like a white Ferrari testarossa that thing is cherry
Careful with the aluminum foil, I’ve seen it scratch chrome handlebars. Usually if you barely apply any pressure it seems to work okay tho. Great video, learned some helpful stuff for my resto project
i appreciate his attention to detail ...BMX TLC!!!
What do you do with small chips on the frame that have rusted?
For the plastic parts to add shine or life back into them put Vaseline on the parts let it soak in or chapstick works to work it in to coat the parts then you can either sand the parts or wipe em down to see what is needed after
Two good bikes, GT PERFORMER & FREE AGENT LIMO👍👍
Leave it the way it is so you can ride it and not have to worry about banging it up.
That Performer is my absolute dream bike. I remember the first time I ever saw one, it was the light blue '87. I saw it at the local bike shop, and I've been in love with it ever since. I wish survivor bikes weren't so damn expensive, I'd love to own my childhood dream bike.

My bmx is brand new and oil in the brake cable made it alot smoother...I just wanted to do something lol
A "How Phu" vid, nice!
Does the alfoil trick work on neochrome
I have the same exact bike in my garage as we speak.
That’s what’s up!
Citric Acid works great on chrome it removes all the rust
If the old chain is really knackered then the sprocket/chainring might be as well so a new chain won't mesh very well. Did that dude say he wanted to replace those profile cranks with flight cranks?! WTF!!
Sick bike!
How did you cut the tire and do u have a video of it
I used to have those back in the day. Profile is better I think but back in the day my friends had the flights. I got the profile cranks for Xmas and they were like $150
I owned that exact free agent in 96'. Was stolen out of my shed by the guy we got it from, I suspect. Mine didn't have purple rims, though.
You really should have routed the front brake cable on the inside of the fork leg.
Yo Alfredo what hub guards you recommend ?
We love you phu
Awesome but I would like to see the rebuild BMXican
ive stripped ALL of those splined profile cranks. hes right if you ride and not cruise you need flights lol
How u take rust off a chrome bike?
A lil patina is good sometimes as show queen brings wrong attention buy thief lol
Tear one down Phu
Is Skyway BMX lighter in weight than a GT Performer?
I need kool stop white pads yeah my repop skyways ..got some black rub yeah I didn't know lol
With the aluminium foil .. dip it in some water and it works even better !!
Chrome plating is harder than aluminum that's why it's not affecting the surface. Try this on anything else like polished aluminum though and be prepared to drive yourself crazy with hairline scratches.
Yeeeerr
😎
wheres your shop i need some parts
Where is your shop?
Wow 87 I was turning 17 years old ..

I want that chain!!!
If it sat upside down and was rained on outside and rust is in the frame how would you restore
17:13 Da Krome on Da Krame
I used to stare at them in the bike shop trying to figure out how to get 300$ at 12
You were plotting at an early age! Respect!
I hear ya, I saved for 2 years to get my first bike I bought in 99. Just over 300 for a 99 Mongoose Villain
What’s up alfe 🤘
Is this Alfredo Mancusos shop?
I would rather have a free agent than a red line only cause I think they are more rare. Even though they still make them today there probably still less of them being made compared to redline.

How about a light bleach wash to get those white mags clean? Or would that damage the material?
Brother do a resto!!
I got one to restore let me know what can be done need to bring it back to life been with 30 years.
Phu may I please have the 87 GT chain?
A wet brass brush is amazing on rusty chrome as well.
I want to see you guys ride it a bit...
Who the hell stole my free agent? My bike was the exact same but I didn’t have purple rims
Hey Tuff wheels use Super Fine Steel Wool. 000 or 0000 fine
Damn I had an 87 detour
000 stables steel will not scratch Crome
