    Memories. I had an 89 GT Performer, blue/white 6 spoked wheel version. Looks like the frame remained all or mostly unchanged. You slipped and said he might of paid too little for his ;). Now if they kept up the same quality in that later version I think the customer got a decent deal.

    I’m in the middle of building a 97 performer, but the 94 was my first GT.
    Good choice on the 6 spoke tomahawks, I got green 6 spoke tuffs in the mail on the way here for mine.
    But yours…is EXACTLY what I want

    Gt owned Dyno, Robinson, Auburn and they made parts for other team bikes. All high quality parts! Great build up and learned something about crank spacing too 👍🏿

      But Dyno parts shouldn’t be on a GT. GT parts can be on the other brands. It’s the bigger name.

    '94 gt perf. I'm in the hunt for one. Lmk
    Only thing I would change is the color of the chain... Black/chrome chain would flow better!
    Overall, great deal!

    That GT turned out nice! I always wanted one like that when I was a kid. After I was an adult, I found an all chrome 2001 Redline 5Spot in a pawn shop when it was just a few years old and someone had put a set of Torker 3-piece cranks and a sealed BB in it already and was in perfect condition. It took me 6 months to pay off the lay a way and that bike has never stayed a night outside and has always had a place in my house somewhere. It has sat in a corner collecting dust for years and I am almost 50 now and I got bored recently and needed to get more exercise after working from home for 2 years, I dusted the old bike off and took it for a spin. I started to ride it everyday again and after almost 20 years the BB has developed a few pops and clicks and the 180mm cranks were killing my old knees so I hit EBay with a fresh credit card and ordered a ton of new parts for it, including a set of black Tuff II’s with red wall tires and I found an original downtube sticker for an RL20 that seems to fit the bike perfectly. I found an old school Velo Crossbow seat with a touch of red that matches the tires and decal with a new set of Troy Lee grips to round it off and I love it more now than I ever have and it’s like part of the family. I couldn’t decide on a crank length so after tons of research I finally decided on a set of 175mm which feel really good on my MX24 cruiser but I felt like any shorter and it would feel like a kids bike. Once the cranks get here I am going to blow it apart to the nuts and bolts and do a full cleaning of the chrome parts and reassembly. I may have other bikes but this one will always be special to me and reminds me of a simpler, happier time in my life before all of the headaches of adulthood. I guess that’s why old school bikes are so high now, adults like me with means to buy those bikes we lusted after!

    • @rickybobby5950
      @rickybobby5950 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I went with a set of chrome 175mm cranks and added a new chain and chainwheel just to freshen up the drivetrain. It rides better than it ever has now and I get compliments on it just about every time I ride it. I built a new school fitbikeco xxl TRL that I found in pieces on eBay but didn’t like the knee killing 30/10 gearing (60 gear inch, 3.0 ratio) and stepped the chainwheel down to a 28t (56 gear inch, 2.8 ratio) which gives it a little higher cruising speed than the standard ‘55 inch’ setup but doesn’t make my knees ache (as badly) after a long ride.

    If I remember right, there were the GT Pro Performer with a bent bottom tube ( by the crank like a Dyno) and the type with out the bend on the bottom. I had won a large flatland contest in 1983-84 they gave me a brand new yellow GT Pro Performer. Needles to say I switched from Haro to GT after that in my career.

      @@LoweDistortion right on for the info, it’s been it seems forever since I talked about GTL O L. My name is Ryan and I rode with jump in Joe and Max Gadiotti here in Denver. I have some old VHS tapes, even footage of me on ESPN in the early days, got it from a film guy downtown. My dad drove me to get a VHS tape back in 1987, we paid him $35 and he gave me the VHS tape. I still have it. After seeing all kinds of footage being uploaded to TH-cam, I remember the producer made music and made a video for an opening sequence and I was in that as well, not sure how to upload a VHS but I heard that guys can do it. Thanks for the inspiration. I will try and do that. Did you ride in Colorado back in the day

    Nice!!!....I still have my '87 GT Pro Performer with : ACS R.L. edge freecoaster, Haro knee saver, Tioga Roll pegs, Tioga 1pc Crank, Tuff-neck sprocket, GT stem, GT laid back seatpost, Dia-Compe Bulldog, 990's, GT seat post, SST (??)platforms, Mushroom grips, Mushroom crank dust cap, ...all parts I sourced back in '87. The wheels though need to be re-laced, got them from Rockford BMX. 1st time I listed everything, now I have to put it back together. Also have the Peregrine Mags in Radberry, and my 1st set of mags, Tuff Wheels II, that was on my 1st build, a '85 Vector, which got stolen at the Pac-Man Arcade in Pasadena, along with my Brother's Race Inc, our friend's Torker., and the only bike that we recovered, my other friend's Schwinn Predator...That was the worst day for us, ever (summer of 1985).

      Those 3 spoke wheels are worth a lot now. They are iconic. Typically just for cruising. Not for serious riding. But definitely hold a place in BMX history.

    I love how Alfredo, a modern rider, can appreciate old-school BMX bikes. I love that you love learning about the history of BMX freestyle bikes, unlike new school riders who could care less which at times pisses me off. BMX is not 100 years old like baseball. There's always room for learning. Also, the guy who does these builds is a super awesome humble dude who genuinely cares about BMX. Keep these videos coming bro. Much love from NYC!
