The NBA offseason is over with preseason games starting up and there were some major mistakes by teams around the league. This is a look at the absolute worst mistakes that will come back to hurt NBA teams during the year and beyond.

DeMar DeRozan really expanded his game after leaving Toronto. Now he’s a great facilitator, and can also work off the ball. The defense will be a concern, but the Kings have the potential to be top offense in the league.
Barnes is a legitimate 3pt shooter and isn’t ball dominant at all
He‘s Bad on defense and no off ball player. Players Like him just arent winning players. He needs the ball in his Hand, because hes no off ball player and don’t Takes much threes, which results in fewer ball touches for Fox and Sabonis. He‘s always been a player who can make a bad team better and gets 25 points a Night, which is Impressive but if you want to win Playoff Games he‘s not your guy. Im sorry to say all this because actually I Like him as a person but thats just the truth. Even if you look a Advanced Stats from the past, you will see that he‘s Teams were nearly always better when hes on the bench.

Plus he just came off a 24/4/5 season while leading the league in minutes with 79 games so clearly age isn’t much of an issue since there’s been no signs of regression.

Bulls off-season honestly didn’t seem that bad to me. Despite the Josh giddey slander he’s a valuable player with potential that will clearly be more useful than injury prone Caruso down the line. Derozan had to go, but Zach and Vucecic Don’t contribute to winning all that much.
Yeah he's 22, and isn't an absolutely terrible shot. If he gets a little better on defence and ups his shooting to average (42% overall and 36% from 3) and can be slightly consistent he's a bargain point guard who isn't going to be maxed and can facilitate really well. Rubio never got that good at shooting but was an amaz8ng passer and defender and often his teams did well with him (Utah, Suns and Cleveland).
He was also getting slightly better each year until this last season where that story clearly hurt him. Now it's behind him and he can move on he could bounce back.
Also gives bulls trade options if Ball can play again. Once/if ball is healthy they can trade him for picks etc. Ball, Lavine and Vuc should bring in some decent developmental players and picks or discarded prospects (Ayton maybe for example) and make solid depth.
Raps not trading Bruce shortly after exercising his team option was foolish. He's hurt now and may have to sell low.

No, the Sixers asked the Clippers for PG for Harden straight up last season. They should've taken that deal, but they wanted to try a 1-213 big 3. If they took the trade, or even change it up to dump Westbrook along with PG, they would've had Harden, Kawhi, Batum, and RoCo. It would've been a much better team *AND* they would have kept their picks.

Unpopular opinion- the Knicks front office had the worst offseason in the long run. I know that they resigned Brunson on a discount, but the money left over could have been used in a much better way than they did. They now have 2 of the worst contracts in the league with OG and KAT. I'm not saying those guys are bad players, but they are overpaid compared to their value. I also don't understand using most of their draft picks for Bridges when he'll be up for an extension next summer, so the Nets would have to get rid of him anyway. They also lost DiVincenzo on that KAT trade and he was massive for them off the bench last year. I still think they have a good roster for next year, but with the assets they had, plus Brunson taking a payout, they could have gotten way better than they actually did. In a years players like Jokic, Giannis and Booker might be available, or even Embiid if Philly keeps getting knocked out in the second round, and New York being a big market would have been somewhere where these guys would've liked to get traded, but instead the Knicks used up all their picks for Bridges and KAT, while overpaying for OG too.

The kings were a top 10 defense after the all star break (when keon ellis became a starter)
And dropped all the way to a top 4 defense by end of season. Their issue was offense last season. They replaced HB with DeRozan, who was also ass on defense at this stage of his career. Hes lost quickness.

I know it isn't a 'popular' pick for next season RoY, but I think folks are sleeping on Big Zach. Not because he will suddenly blossom into some kind of superstar, but the kid is going to get a TON of touches and that award is 100% 'individual output' based.
Giddey is nice, did great in the olympics and made his 3s even. He has potential and it's a great player to start off again

The Kings actually had limited offensive creation outside of Fox once Monk and Huerter when down so getting DeRozan actually will help a lot. Their defense was top 10 once Keon Ellis entered the starting lineup.

Yes it’s pre season but the grizzlies played all their starters at some point in this game and beat the mavs by 4 points. The mavs played 1 starter from last year and that’s Gafford. Luka, Kai. pJ nor klay played and they had exhibit 10 players balling out tonight 🤣. They are one of the deepest teams in the league and somehow they’re slept on AGAIN. The team that ran through the west last year has gotten leaps and bounds better and no one bats an eye. I mean this mavs team would sweep the team from last year , 4-1 at best and people really think they may not be a top 5 team 🤯🤯🤯. If the mavs somehow manage to steal a player like Brandon Ingram on a deal like they’ve gotten with every other key player, you’re looking at a potential dynasty until people begin to retire. They’re THAT good. You give them a 6’10 4 that can create their own shot, dribble, play make, shoot AND play defense…. The only thing stopping them is heath 😅 they’re gonna be a tuff out this year, but if they manage to loc this roster up( almost everyone is under contract already) and manage to add that final piece then it’s OVER. Nobody wants to take Lavine's contract, Lonzo can barely play a full season, Nikola can be a valuable centre if he only have one year contract left.
I think Nikola to Blazers for Ayton would work. Blazers get a vet to mentor their centre of the future. Ayton gets lobs from Giddey and a team where he can be a focal point on offence for the time being.
Ball is, maybe done. If he plays again and can be healthy he's at best a solid backup PG for a contender. Giddey is clearly his replacement. Bulls I think want to get some return for him now. Lavine will be a salary dump maybe to someone with cap space or who just wants a shooter like Spurs. Problem is spurs won't want to give up assets for him either. So I assume a multi team trade will be needed and he'll go somewhere like the nets. Nets send Cam Thomas to Spurs, Spurs send some expiring vet salary and a pick to Bulls, lavine goes to nets etc.

The Nets weren’t going to trade Bridges if they didn’t get their picks back. They were going to try to be a middling team. They wouldn’t have been one of the worst teams in the league.

These are the worst takes I've heard in a while - DeRozan going to the Kings is a GREAT trade for them, though playing him at PF at 6'6 is silly, they should have tried to play him at SF. Giddey will SHINE for the Bulls if he gets the ball, he's a triple double threat as a 6'8 point guard. Westbrook will absolutely shine for the Nuggets; he fits in as a 6th man PG to run the bench players, and P-Swat, Braun and Strauther are all 6'6-6'7 3&D players who will absolutely fit in with this rotation.
Keegan gonna play the 4 he's 6'8" and deceptively strong.

Clippers fans have it brutal. When you consider what they gave up to get PG, it's almost front office malfeasance. Ballmer has access to the best sports medicine in the world that surely knows Kawhi's availability will continue to be erratic; they could've signed George, low-balled Harden, and then dealt PG at the deadline for some kind of return. Everyone keeps saying they have one of the best front offices in the league -- how?
