Josh Jackson is the ultimate example of a player who needed mentoring, both on and off the court. Andy made great comparisons with Jimmy Butler and Kawhi Leonard. These show the difference between growing in a good system versus a bad one. The Bulls and Spurs were two of the top franchises in the league when they drafted Butler and Leonard. That wasn't the reaction when the Spurs drafted Primo. The reaction was WTF how did this scrub go #12? Or WTF why didn't the Spurs draft Sengun? He's not a good player or he would have made it wit hthe Clippers and he was the stupidest draft pick the Spurs have ever made.
Jay Williams was Derrick Rose a half decade before the Bulls selected Rose as the 1st pick in the 2008 draft. Not as insanely explosive and athletic as prime Rose was, but a very effective PG who had done it all as a college player at Duke. His rookie season was more than solid and hinted at a bright future ahead for both himself and the Bulls who were still trying to pick up the pieces after MJ left in 98 and a succession of terrible draft picks and team management there after. Having Williams land in their laps almost how MJ had landed in their laps back in 1984 must have been seen as a godsend. And then Williams inexplicably thought he could ride a motorbike and effectively ended his career (and plunged the Bulls into the pits of despair again) in that moment of stupidity.
I still have a wall poster of 1992-93 Aris B.C. , baskeball club of Thessaloniki, Makedonia. Tarpley made a great name in Greece those years. Aris B.C. was in its first season without Nikos -Nick- Galis. They found in Roy a great leader and won Greek Basketball Cup and European Basketball Cup. The next year he played for Olympiakos, where he was also beloved by fans . After being banned again he played again in Greece and, also, Cyprus. A great player, that could have been even greater!

The 1986 NBA Draft is pretty much the poster child for the worst draft ever, in terms of high draft picks being enormous busts in one way or another, and where the league's drug abuse problem reared its ugly head in the worst possible way with Len Bias' death. Washburn is probably the worst 3rd pick in NBA history though, and the Warriors scouts should have known better as his off-the-court issues and drug problems, plus his atrocious academics, were well documented in college. And yet they still picked him. His rank lack of care, effort and responsibility when he got to the pros just meant he was never going to fulfil his potential. 72 total games across 2 seasons. 3.1ppg, 2.4rebs and 0.3ast on 41%fg as a 6' 11" center, before he was permanently suspended for his drug and alcohol addictions in 1990. At least in the years since, after doing time in jail and being virtually penniless, Washburn has managed to straighten himself out in more recent years, unlike Tarpley.
What sucks is how these guys have something on the plate in front of them and waste it -- but what's worse is the player that has the skills & gains experience playing overseas yet NEVER gets an NBA CHANCE. At least give former NCAA players that have foreign experience a LOOK.

One redeeming feature of his career is that in his lone NBA season he did get a triple-double (against the NJ Nets, IIRC). Many longer-career players have never achieved that.
The Second Overall NBA Draft Pick is Cursed Every NBA team has a draft pick they wish they could take back over their history, whether a superstar was drafted the pick after, or their pick just failed to live up to their potential. In particular, the 2nd overall pick has had quite a surreal number of players not to live up to expectations. There are exceptions, of course, namely Kevin Durant, Isiah Thomas, Jason Kidd, Bill Russell etc. Since 1974, 50 YEARS AGO, the 2nd pick in the NBA Draft has generated a total of 1 MVP, the least of any top 5 pick.
Josh Primo was not a bad draft choice, he had the talent to be what they thought he would be. There was no way for them to know about his mental health issues.
I don’t think Primo NBA career is over just yet, feel like he will definitely get another shot not saying it will work out but I don’t think he laced them for the nba for the last time, I even think a team will bet on Jackson once more before he retire
Getting drafted to a team without veteran presence isn't the "perfect scenario". You don't want to grow with your teammates in that way. Since they all more than likely lack maturity.

Or WTF they could have gotten this guy in the late 20s. Spurs fans HATED the pick and Primo's career highlight was one preseason game he hit a bunch of threes and had the crowd chanting his name. He's not a good player or he would have made it wit hthe Clippers and he was the stupidest draft pick the Spurs have ever made.
0:52 “very promising” = “filled with potential”
Josh Jackson was a good player but he should thought about the decisions he made , such a shame tho
Jay will was one of my favorite Duke players
Ben Simmons for not learning to shot before getting to the spotlight
Andy always puts out a great video
Johntay inspired me to always bet on myself
As a Bulls fan I get so frustrated when I see Jay Williams.😂😂😂😂
Primo is now with the Bulls. There G league team, i think. Maybe he finds his way to the bulls squad and forms a special backcourt duo with Giddey😅
He got cut already
Maybe Dinner Bell Mel Turpin and Oliver Miller belong here, as they were once lumped into the kind of players who "ate their way out of the NBA."
😂
The Big O doesn’t. He played into his 30s in the nba.
I feel like Jay Williams is only remembered for being on ESPN then his actual one and only Bulls season
He was gonna be an all star.
What abt len bias? Or that guy who fell asleep with ice packs on his knee or ankle?
That 2nd guy was Tyson Wheeler, if memory serves correctly.
Len Bias was definitely stupid for doing ❄️, but it would be a bad look to have him in this vid cause ppl would be mad since he’s dead
Cmon, everybody already knows about this story.

Jay Williams a sad story.
Nice vid, thank you!
Len bias should be here.
The dude is the future of the celtics.
But he got overdose in drugs.
The guy celebrated too hard 😢😢
@@dolyhariantonope, he was a Dominique level player.
@@shatnerhasselhoffexactly so he was gonna be the future of the celts & the league - unique is a Hof player
Jay Williams is really the dumbest for me. He already has it. but then he stupidly rode a motorcycle, without a helmet and license and it was on his contract. WHY!?
Dumbest had to be primo for SA'n when these players can smash 304s for free & dumbest of all was Jackson giving a baby weed - I understand your point tho , jayW should if just rented a bike on a private track , kinda like Jerome brown on those Reggie white , Randall Cunningham eagles who was deleted in a motorcycle accident
@notoriousLSGshow Primo too. Dang
Chris Washburn, who came out in the same draft as Tarpley to the Warriors(1986), same demons as Tarpley as well.
@@ChaosCat79 You are right about that particular draft. It is good to hear that Chris has straightened out his life.
What sucks is how these guys have something on the plate in front of them and waste it -- but what's worse is the player that has the skills & gains experience playing overseas yet NEVER gets an NBA CHANCE. At least give former NCAA players that have foreign experience a LOOK.
Oliver Miller: played in a Final Four, 1st round pick to the Suns in '92, then ate his way out of the league
I’d consider my life ruined too if I was employed by ESPN to comment on college sports.
Jason williams was one the best guard i ever seen in college. Jason was scary how good this dude could have been he was a drose in college couldnt be stop
We loved Josh Jackson in Detroit! Great teammate

"A stupid mistake happened to me" HAPPENED TO ME. No accountability for his stupid mistake that he caused to happen to him
in the Philippines, you only get 15 game suspension in the PBA league after firing a gun (and even past issues like fighting an entire college team)
Jay Williams is really one of the biggest what if.
One redeeming feature of his career is that in his lone NBA season he did get a triple-double (against the NJ Nets, IIRC). Many longer-career players have never achieved that.
Len Bias can be considered one as well. The Celtics had high hopes for him and MJ himself acknowledged his potential.

Talent and work ethic can get you so far in the NBA. You also have to be a professional. It's probably just as important as talent and work ethic...
Anyone coming out of the U of Kansas is questionable.
The Second Overall NBA Draft Pick is Cursed
Every NBA team has a draft pick they wish they could take back over their history, whether a superstar was drafted the pick after, or their pick just failed to live up to their potential.
You forgot Gary Payton.
Primo had the makings of a varsity athlete 😂😂
Josh Primo was not a bad draft choice, he had the talent to be what they thought he would be. There was no way for them to know about his mental health issues.
I don’t think Primo NBA career is over just yet, feel like he will definitely get another shot not saying it will work out but I don’t think he laced them for the nba for the last time, I even think a team will bet on Jackson once more before he retire
The Chicago Bulls just signed Josh Primo
He got cut already
The funny thing about Porter is that he probably would have made more money if he actually played for a contract.
Josh Primo signed a training camp deal with the Bulls 2 days ago...
Got a bet365 ad right before this video 😂
Getting drafted to a team without veteran presence isn't the "perfect scenario". You don't want to grow with your teammates in that way. Since they all more than likely lack maturity.
Wade didn't expect to have someone with the same nickname but for a different reason
Does anyone miss the trumpets from Andy’s videos?
If Primo behaves, he’d be a good fit on the Spurs with Wemby and Paul
