      @@pinklefoo I'm well aware, but Matt Reeves also stated that Joker wasn't yet at a point where he's the same Joker we are used to. He doesn't even yet refer to himself as Joker. He's not as public, high profile or big of a deal as the Joker we know, so it's hard to know how much of a challenge he was for Batman when he first took him down. And was it confirmed that that gang belong to Joker? Most people seem to think that they're just random thugs wearing facepaint (because it was Halloween) as opposed to them being Joker goons, partly because of the reasons above.

    My favorite thing about Pattinson’s Batman is that he isn’t even at his peak, yet. He’s still trying to work out the kinks and fine-tune things. Even his crash in the wing-suit is something he’ll eventually work on.
    At this point, he doesn’t see the benefit of what
    “Bruce Wayne” can accomplish in the war on crime and corruption. But that interaction with the new Mayor, her trying to convince him to be a bit philanthropic is probably going to be a Segway into eventually becoming the billionaire-philanthropist.
    This series of films is taking its time. I’m stoked that we’ll get to see him upgrade the suit, gadgets, the Batmobile, the Batcave.

    • @Vohaul86
      @Vohaul86 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd say he really isn't on his peak, going after the Catwoman instead of getting to the important witness he was planning on - and because of that the villains could kill her with no trouble whatsoever. =/
      And yes, I also hate how in the Dark Knight Rises Selina's BFF just magically disappears half-way the movie and no-one seems to care despite she tried to protect Selina from Bruce after he found out Catwoman's identity.

    • @3Rayfire
      @3Rayfire 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well it's twofold as Bella Real was telling him that taking up his family's philanthropic work could really have an impact, but because he hadn't been paying attention to anything, Renew had become a slush fund for the city's corruption. So Bruce Wayne become billionaire philanthropist Bruce Wayne is both the right thing to do as Bruce and a necessity to do as Batman.

She's a jewel thief that has a flirtatious relationship with Batman and sometimes helps him out. That entire gang initiation, including the beatdown, right up to the victim being afraid of Batman, feels SO much like comic book storytelling to me, and I love it. You don't need dialogue to understand EXACTLY what's happening with the initiation...it's like the best sequential art, where they can drop all the text boxes and word balloons, and just let the panel art tell the story. It feels like something I would've seen in Detective Comics in the 80s. It's almost indescribable, how much this movie feels like so many Batman comics I've loved, from the stuff I read growing up in the 80s and 90s, to 21st century classics like The Long Halloween and Hush.
    Being a detective movie has a lot to do with that. Adapted to the screen with inspiration from so many of my favorite films...Rear Window, Halloween, SE7EN, Chinatown, Taxi Driver, The French Connection, on and on. In this Batman, they decided to go with Bruce Wayne being more of a Kurt Cobain type figure, which is why they used the music. Kurt Cobain struggled his entire life with addiction. Not wanting to be famous. Dealing with his inner demons. This is very much Bruce Wayne, who is dealing with this need for revenge, not wanting his family mantle that’s been thrust upon him, and dealing with it. Trying to overcome it. It’s a very raw take of the Batman story

    I very much enjoyed it. I liked the fact that it was Batman at year 2. He's very much consumed with the idea of revenge and he's completely neglecting Bruce Wayne. This is a major mistake that an inexperienced Batman would make. He doesn't see the value in Bruce Wayne. In the war for Gotham's soul, you need that second front that only Bruce Wayne can open up. He does philanthropy work, he makes investments in the city's infrastructure, he runs dozens of different charities and he is the single biggest employer in the entire city with Wayne Enterprises.
    Batman inspires fear and Bruce Wayne inspires hope. You need both to save Gotham.

    In the 60s, there was a brief storyline where Alfred became mutated and lost his mind, turning him into a villain called the Outsider. He was then cured and Batman and Robin decided not to tell him of his actions as the Outsider so he wouldn't feel guilty about things they didn't consider him responsible for. In the 50s, there was a story where Batman found out the mugger Joe Chill who killed his parents actually did it on the orders of a mobster named Lew Moxon who had a grudge against Thomas Wayne. Later this was removed from canon in order to keep the murder as a random crime. In more modern stories, Batman learns Lew Moxon had a grudge and thinks maybe Moxon hired Chill to kill the Waynes, but he later finds reason to believe this was a coincidence and Moxon was actually furious some mugger had gotten to Thomas first.

    Really enjoyed the more younger less finessed Batman making mistakes, and more of the detective working he did.
    Robert did a great job, as a younger still reeling Bruce Wayne who's not super interested in holding up his Wayne facade outside of his vigilantism(which makes sense since he's talking about being Vengance, still very focused in one direction only).
    And Paul Dano was fantastic as a more psychotic Riddler. And that prosthetic on Colin Farrell made me forget it was him, also due to his acting ofc.
    Wonderful dark atmosphere as well.
    Not so sold on Catwoman, I think it's more due to the directing of the actress.
    That's me though.
    Overall. Great movie, and am excited for the next one.

    I agree with your assessment of Batman. From what I read, this movie is right at the beginning of Batman's journey. Like in the first two years. so it would make sense that he's still suffering and a bit broken. That's why seeing the little boy at the beginning was so painful for him....he was seeing his own story play out again. I also REALLY liked how QUIET Robert Pattinson made his version of Batman. It wasn't ridiculously over the top like Bale's Batman voice....but it made him even more intimidating.

    In the comic book The Dark Knight Returns, Batman himself addresses the exposure to his head, stating that extra armour it would require would be too obstructive and cumbersome, so that's part of the reason behind the often very bold (classic yellow & black) bat symbol on his chest. It draws the eye, and there's a psychology at play where criminals tend to take joy in destroying or defacing symbols, and his chest is far easier to armour.

He’s never been prorated as the bad guy unless Bruce Wayne has been the bad guy ( dark nights metal). Alfred was always ment to keep Wayne from jumping into the abyss, that’s why Bane almost got his back broken by Batman after Bane broke Alfred’s neck and it took 3 gun shots from Thomas Wayne to stop Bruce after beating the living hell out of Bane.
    But like you guys, if there’s any stories of Alfred being evil I’d like to know to

    As a big lifelong fan of all the Batman comics and media, I can definitively say that this movie is the closest ANY of the live action films have come to the comics. The animated movies get it right pretty often, but the live action films have always fallen short. I have, for over 30 years, been repeatedly disappointed that the live action films have continually failed to really capture the spirit of what Batman is. I’ve had to just accept “this image” or “that interpretation”, fully knowing that general audiences have never gotten a good example of what Batman in the comics is really like. This is it. And I can finally be happy that there’s a good example to show people what the graphic novels actually depict.
