which part was the most amazing?... when it took batman six years to walk up one flight of stairs, walking so slow the guy they were beating up could have died? was that amazing for you?.... or how about killing a bunch of people on the road in massive crashes just to chase down and question the penguin to find out he had nothing to do with it and thus killing all those people FOR NO REASON was that awesome? it was a fucking clown show
Well, I am fairly certain part of it was inspired by the movie Seven from the 90s. It seems like..exactly like the setting, the mood and tone, the Riddler and his methods of punishment are a lot like the kills and environment in Seven, which was a horror/suspense/thriller. Has that same type of feel.
Really great movie and it's always a pleasure to see people with good taste and who gets the idea of a director. Great reaction. Greetings from Mexico. 🙋🏻♂️
For riddles like the justice one at the funeral; you have to look at the context. Yes lots of things are blind but what is cruel, poetic, or blind? Justice. Why is that the answer? Because "Poetic Justice" "cruel justice" and "blind justice" are all common terms. Plus, the personification of Justice has a blindfold because Justice is supposed to be blind; I.E. not see a person's social class or wealth but administer a just judgment regardless.
Favorite Non-Batman character is Alfred! Every Bat-Enterprize needs a Good Alfred! Favorite Bat-Scene was in the introduction. The Street Thug spotting the Bat-Signal paralyzed by Fear and hit by the car.! It blended with Batman's narration perfectly! At that point I knew that it would be a good addition to the Bat Film Collection!
It felt to me like Batman’s arc throughout this whole movie was the arc he went thru in the first act of Batman Begins. Like when he was still depressed and wanted to kill Joe Chill outside the courthouse
It was nice to have a Batman who hasn't completely ironed it out yet, both what Batman is supposed to be and what Bruce Wayne is supposed to be, Batman Begins is still great at highlighting the details of why he becomes Batman, but once he has the suit on he's pretty much got the hang of it, it's nice to see in this how there is still growth after putting on the suit. I really like the Nolan films but there is this somewhat assumed sense of grandeur to Batman as a symbol right from the start, whereas I like that in this they clearly establish that Batman would not be this instant symbol of justice and they never lose sight that Bruce is a traumatized and mentally damaged individual, after Batman Begins I think they forget that a little. As you said they also flesh out Gotham so well, both stylistically and in terms of making it so that we don't need a backstory for every character, I completely buy the city that we're shown would create characters like the Penguin and the countless other villains I assume we'll see going forward. I think the Riddler is the best example of that, both the clues he lays out and what we see of Gotham in the wider film makes it easy to believe Gotham would create someone like him, even when he explains his backstory its less of a revelation and more this sense of lining up all the information we've already been given and seeing just how bad his experiences were. Plus even the score, especially the Riddler's theme once it gets more bombastic is straight up in the style of the animated series which I love. He was probably my favorite character in the film aside from Batman, I just thought the whole Zodiac killer approach to the Riddler was a genius move. I like Riddler in the comics but his design I've always felt is too goofy to come across serious and threatening, so from the first trailer I was hooked by that rework alone.
And a big Thank you to the city planer that build the city below the water line….. And also that the guy thought a brickwall would hold back the water.
This is the first reaction I've watched that made the same connection that I did about the shot of "adrenaline" toward the end of the movie. I also thought it could potentially be Venom, due to the green color and how it gave Batman that surge of strength.
This is my personal favorite Batman film because as much as I love TDK it is a Joker movie more than a Batman movie while this IS a Batman movie and gives Batman a character arc not just Bruce Wayne because some films have given Bruce an arc but not Batman
I love that you take the Riddler interrogation scene two ways. Riddler knows that Batman is Bruce Wayne and is messing with him OR Riddler legitimately chalks up Bruce's death as the one failure of the plan and has no clue.
Hi..great reaction..just a bit of trivia for you..the graveyard at the end with the motorcycle scene was actually filmed in my home city of Glasgow in Scotland..it’s called Glasgow necropolis
I just saw this movie & I'm tired of saying this...but, another batman movie is the greatest superhero flick going so far! I don't know how many times I said, "Beautiful Scene or Beautiful Shot" while watching this movie, lol. *The opening with the music & Batman's Dialogue w/ everybody being scared of the dark was great. But, the whole symbolic part where he jumped onto the electrical cable, cuts it off with the batarang on his chest after that henchman used the same line that he did in the beginning of the movie, "I'm Vengeance"...realizing he was wrong. Then falls into the water, re-emerges "reborn"/"baptized" anew, becomes a symbol that he is..leading everybody by example with the flare/"Guiding Light" and gets their trust & gets them to come together/help each other, etc... I liked the little nod that Batman injected "Venom Toxin" into himself & he went into overkill mode that damn near smashed that guy's face in...Then finally, the shot of Batman riding away on the motorcycle, but staring at catwoman riding away in the side/rear view mirror, but "objects are closer than they appear" when looking through rear view mirrors, lol... Yeah, great movie... (Colin Farrell played The Penguin and whoever did his prosthetics makeup deserves all kinds of rewards! There's supposed to be a HBO MAX penguin series from this Batman Universe, but how Discovery is cancelling everything now, I doubt it.)*
23:00 Definitely American muscle, but not a Camaro...it's mostly a '69 Dodge Charger (or possibly a '68), with a LOT of modifications. 31:50 Yup, Paul Dano is giving a friggin master class in "how to act like a psychopath" here. Personally, I'd love to see a Riddler/Scarecrow or maybe Riddler/Victor Zsasz team-up with Paul Dano and David Tennant (who also plays an amazing sociopathic bad guy) for a future Batman flick...probably won't ever happen, but I can dream. 39:50 Nah, not venom...it's a mixture of epinephrine and adrenaline, to counter the probable cracked sternum and multiple fractured ribs he'd have after tanking a pair of 12 gauge buckshot rounds in the chest from like 3 feet away...his armor's amazing, but even it has limits. 40:35 They're probably trying to hide from the shooters that were up in the rafters...going up the bleachers just gives those shooters a better shot at you, hiding under them gives you at least the illusion of cover. Folks were pretty much stuck between a rock and a hard place. 41:10 Love this sequence...it (and this movie honestly) really captures the duality of Batman in a visual way no other Batman movie has managed to...he's simultaneously the savage monster in the darkness for the criminals of Gotham, while also being the single light of hope in the shadows for the innocents of the city.
This movie is great! It also sets up Mr. Freeze pretty well too. The whole city is flooded and winter is coming. I can see that happening! I really hope the next villain is Mr. Freeze. I’d like to see how they make him into a realistic villain
@Yoda The director has nothing to say if the execs want their way. Remember that WB is not about making good movies, but making profitable movies. If one director is stubborn, they'll find a replacement.
@Yoda It's not his. He doesn't own Batman. It's not an original IP that he created and can do anything he wants with it. He was only hired by WB to make the movies and they have the final say.

That is the whole point about The Riddler's riddles. Each riddle has a double meaning. Even in Batman 66, Riddler's riddles are like that (they made it easier in 66 by having him tell two interlocking riddles).
You were totally trying to get a spit-take from the Mrs. when you dropped that Colin Farrell reveal while she was drinking her beverage, weren't you? 😄 Also, the official art book from the movie confirms that the liquid that Batman injects himself with is epinephrine to give himself an adrenaline boost and NOT Venom.
Attending The Batman's premiere at the cinema was almost like a religious experience. Well, that's what cinema is for, in order to live experiences or even mixed feelings into a room. On the other hand, I never thought that Robert Pattinson was going to play Batman's role but, he did it. As a result of the movie, his performance amazed me as much as the whole cast.
I wouldn’t describe Tim Burton’s penguin as campy…it was more unrealistic/cartoonish but dark and disturbing none the less. He was like a straight up monster. Very much Tim Burton putting his spin on it tho, Collin Ferrell’s penguin is very comic accurate in that he’s just a crime boss that looks weird lol
Maybe I'm reaching... But it felt like there was a bit of homage paid to the cartoonish penguin at the closing of the scene after the chase where he was being interrogated under a bridge. Trying the walk with his hands and feet bound was backlit by fire and seemed to evoke the classic short step/shuffle. (Just me?!? Lol)
Not only are they planning a R-Rated Penguin show with him rising to power with Falcone dead but also there is talks of a show set in Arkham Asylum maybe following Joker and/or Riddler as well as a Catwoman show and a show following Gordon and the GCPD in Batman's year one and of course the confirmed sequel

They did with the TV series Gotham. Along with everyone else except maybe for Two Face but they did have Dent. And Harley Quinn but Gotham had hints of what could have been. Even Joker for the longest time but they didn't want to bother with that as they didn't want to get into any trouble. But it was Cameron Monaghan who did various Joker characters we all knew was The Joker.
Like I wouldn't even mind if it was Arnold tbh as long as they played it serious. Like Arnold can be a good serious actor. But another serious drama actor would be great too
Wanna say screw anyone who thought Robert wouldn't be good in this role. He killed it and hope he'll be back for a second film. :) So the Riddler was like 1 or 2 steps away from connecting that Bruce is Batman. In fact in the comics he does find out but Batman convinces him that it would be no fun if everyone knew the truth of the riddle of his persona. But yeah, if he had a little more digging in this version of Batman, he most likely would find that Bruce and Batman are one and the same. The irony of course about the Riddler's plan to assassinate Bella Real is that she isn't like the other fake politicians (it seems like of course) and really does want to do something good for the city. :(
I think this could've easily been side story for Rorschach from Watchmen. Change a couple character names and Replace Batman with Rorschach. This Batman version is like from the original darker side of Detective Comics
It is possible the juice is Venom because there are comics where Batman develops Venom and also in a book that came out as promotional material that shows Bruce when he was younger and it details how he loved chemistry
i saw this in the movies the day it came out and the chase scene with the bat mobile had the theater shaking and rumbling .. forever the best experience right next to seeing spider-man no way home
36:42 Now _this_ part of the movie surprised me. Every previous movie or TV episode that I've seen that started the _Batman_ canon placed Gotham City on an _island._ This is the _first_ one that surrounded it with _levees._
23:26 Yeah the Tumbler started a bad trend where instead of a car with weapons and gadgets the Batmobile just became a tank not only in the Nolan films but the DCEU and the Batman Arkham Knight game too.
The Riddler is Paul. A great film with him is "Love and Mercy" about Brian Wilson (The Beach Boys). Fascinating film. He plays younger Brian and John Cusack play the older Brian.
I love love LOVE the Batmobile in this. Love it. I didn't like the tumbler from the Dark Knight trilogy because it just felt like an army tank and it always boggled me how only 1 guy was like "Hey, isn't that our experimental tank thing?". In 'The Batman' it feels like something that could have really been built by someone who has money. And the sound/feel in theaters when it was revving up. I felt the vibrations through my body. It was amazing and I am in love with that Batmobile. And the music in this was incredible and I just absolutely adore this movie. It was so very well done.
The movie leads us to believe that Riddler knew Batman was Bruce Wayne but he didn't know at all. He hated Bruce and admired Batman but referred to them so much that we thought he knew until the third act
34:23 Riddler thought Batman was his ally in "cleaning up Gotham" not knowing that Batman doesn't kill. But he hates Bruce Wayne because the media focused on Bruce after his parents were killed because he was rich instead of Edward and the other orphanage kids. So he'd never put Bruce being Batman together.
Everyone's problems: Penguin: Bird and fish obsession. Obsessed with high society. Attraction to cruity based on his childhood abuse. Catwoman: Obsession with cats. Kleptomania. Riddler: Obsession with proving he is the smartest man in the city. Obsession with riddles.
Great video and analysis! I'm a first timer to the channel. :) I would have to say that my favorite part of the movie was when the man he was trying to help said, "Please don't hurt me," and you could see the look of confusion flash across Batman's eyes--why are the people he's trying to SAVE so afraid of him? I can see him holding that question in his mind throughout the movie and then it just clicks when he's talking to the Riddler...Batman is inspiring the wrong people.
I agree that the transformation of Colin Ferrell was pretty amazing. I am curious what you both think about the decision for Pattinson not to disguise his voice when he is Batman. That is different than pretty much all of the previous Batman films (with the exception of the old Batman television series when Adam West used his regular voice). There is talk that the green liquid batman injected himself with was an early version of Venom, but not the fully-developed version that results in superhuman strength and causes addiction. And I think this Batman film leaned more into what made Batman's reputation in the comics--the world's greatest detective. Now, this version is a younger version, so he makes more mistakes both in his detective skills and his combat skills (he receives a lot of impact blows and shots, which a mature Batman is able to avoid). It will be interesting to see if they improve both skill sets as an older, more experienced version takes on (I assume), his most deadly villain, the Joker.
A Batman movie about Batman! This movie allows for the evolution of the character which we've never really gotten. He starts out a vigilante and ends the movie a hero. He will likely do more as Bruce Wayne now and take it upon himself to give financially to his city and its people. And then, we get to see how he evolves from there... Nolan's Batman movies' Bruce/Bats character arc was cool and unique in that we actually see Bruce Wayne give being Batman up and living a life for himself. That never happens anywhere else.
Riddler didn’t put Batman and Bruce together because of his hate for Wayne and love for Batman. It didn’t even cross his mind that The person he hates the most is the person he idolizes. Bats uses batmobile to draw attention away from Catwoman cuz Oz is about to catch her on other side of car, Batmobile doesn’t stall he did that on purpose like when someone tries to make someone flinch and Oz flinched

Saw it twice in theaters. It felt like i was back in 2017 watching Blade Runner 2049 for the first time. I had to see it the second time because i was in so much awe of the production design. it is an incredibly slick looking movie. Pun intended.
i wish i saw it in theaters!!! i didn't have anyone to go with :(( watched it the day it came out on hbo max tho
@@iris-xo I went by myself lmaoooo and it was still a really good time. You can go to the movies solo ain’t nothing wrong with that
@@BrandonJames2016 Yeah I solo'd this one as well... Great time
which part was the most amazing?... when it took batman six years to walk up one flight of stairs, walking so slow the guy they were beating up could have died?
was that amazing for you?.... or how about killing a bunch of people on the road in massive crashes just to chase down and question the penguin to find out he had nothing to do with it and thus killing all those people FOR NO REASON
was that awesome?
it was a fucking clown show
This is a horror movie disguised as a superhero film……I thought The Dark Knight was dark, the beginning of this felt like Silence of the Lambs.🤣👍
The deleted joker scene was very hannibal lector
It's silence of the lambs, seven, Chinatown, zodiac, Halloween, i think, some of the scenes took inspiration from those classic
The dark knight was dark? I don’t remember it being that dark besides the joker?
@@yohanespaskal9352 The Ridder's heavy breathing and hiding in the DA's car was very Michael Myers like.
Lmao “This songs got a nirvana feel”
Reminds me of "SEVEN" Dark and dreary, and raining always. Doing detective work reading tons of crazy journal's. And a pretty good antagonist.
Seven is better tho
True. But tbh seven would have been better if batman had randomly shown up halfway into the movie.
@@ninjanibba4259 totally I just was talking about the cinematography and the set design and shit. Seven is way better byfar.
Reminds me a bit of year one, sevens a good comparison too
Really great movie and it's always a pleasure to see people with good taste and who gets the idea of a director.
Worthy of a sequel.
It did kinda remind me of the animated series

Favorite Non-Batman character is Alfred! Every Bat-Enterprize needs a Good Alfred! Favorite Bat-Scene was in the introduction. The Street Thug spotting the Bat-Signal paralyzed by Fear and hit by the car.! It blended with Batman's narration perfectly! It is Nirvana. Last song on the Nevermind album
The song “Something in the Way” IS by Nirvana, off their Nevermind album.
I also thought it could potentially be Venom, due to the green color and how it gave Batman that surge of strength.
when I saw the trailers for the movie, I had a strong feeling that Riddler was being taken to the next level.
Yup
If Mr. Freeze is planned for the sequel, he would still be playing second fiddle to the Joker who they teased in this movie.
@@AmartharDrakestone yeah but they don’t write the films, you’re acting like Matt reeves and the team have no creative liberty which is ridiculous, this one was a resounding success there’s no reason they wouldn’t allow him to have full reign

That is the whole point about The Riddler's riddles. Each riddle has a double meaning. Even in Batman 66, Riddler's riddles are like that (they made it easier in 66 by having him tell two interlocking riddles).
41:34 that is Nirvana
You were totally trying to get a spit-take from the Mrs. when you dropped that Colin Farrell reveal while she was drinking her beverage, weren't you? 😄
Also, the official art book from the movie confirms that the liquid that Batman injects himself with is epinephrine to give himself an adrenaline boost and NOT Venom.
Given the realism of this movie, it's probably something that will later be used to make a more grounded Venom.
I do agree with her about Colin Farrell penguins makeup because his makeup looks like a nicer version to Danny devito’s a little bit.
The new batmobile featured in the 2022 film began life as a 1968-70 Dodge Charger. Of course, it was heavily chopped and modded.
He's right this didn't feel like a movie more like I just watched a long mini series or few episodes of an HBO series.

"This song's got a Nirvana feel". Nirvana sounds like Nirvana confirmed lol.
I’m still holding out for a “Batman vs. The Predator” movie based on the comic.

I always thought Nolan did Batman dirty this looks like a much better start to a new Batman series (Hopefully)
Csn I say just how much I love seeing the Mrs wearing a Batman shirt whenever she wears one 😄 warms my heart that she's a Batman fan.
(Just me?!? Lol)

I think it would be awesome if they brought back Mr Freeze in a more serious manner like they did here with Riddler!
But another serious drama actor would be great too
Watch Prisoners for some more peak Paul Dano!! Also just a straight up good movie

We did!
Wanna say screw anyone who thought Robert wouldn't be good in this role. He killed it and hope he'll be back for a second film. :)
So the Riddler was like 1 or 2 steps away from connecting that Bruce is Batman.

23:26 Yeah the Tumbler started a bad trend where instead of a car with weapons and gadgets the Batmobile just became a tank not only in the Nolan films but the DCEU and the Batman Arkham Knight game too.
Am I the only one who thinks of Paul Bearer whenever the Riddler talks with a high pitch?
It was a little long but this is my favorite Batman, and Batmobile since Keaton/Burton.
39:26 Bat-Meth
Everyone's problems:
Penguin: Bird and fish obsession. Obsessed with high society. Attraction to cruity based on his childhood abuse.
Catwoman: Obsession with cats. Kleptomania.
Riddler: Obsession with proving he is the smartest man in the city. Obsession with riddles.
Batman doing detective stuff...finally.
This nirvana song sounds like nirvana hahaha
Great video and analysis! I'm a first timer to the channel. :)
I would have to say that my favorite part of the movie was when the man he was trying to help said, "Please don't hurt me," and you could see the look of confusion flash across Batman's eyes--why are the people he's trying to SAVE so afraid of him? I can see him holding that question in his mind throughout the movie and then it just clicks when he's talking to the Riddler...Batman is inspiring the wrong people.
Batman- "can I use your bathroom?"
Catwoman-"Sure, but I don't have a toilet." "Just a litter box."
I love the difference between batman and Bruce when he goes to 🐧 club As batman he looks them in the eyes as Bruce he avoids eye contact. Subtle
Favorite part was the startup of the new Batmobile, favorite gadget was the little bat ears on the bike lol
Please watch the deleted scene with the Joker that was released online. You could release it as a mini, it's only 6 minutes or so long.
This song is very Nirvana... Hmm... I can't imagine why... 😝
That’s the way I want my future wife to giggle at Paul dano lol 💙
19:40 When I watched this after getting it for my birthday I kept thinking that cop sounded like he had heartburn.
Technically is he disguising his voice anytime he does an American accent?
A Batman movie about Batman! This movie allows for the evolution of the character which we've never really gotten. He starts out a vigilante and ends the movie a hero. He will likely do more as Bruce Wayne now and take it upon himself to give financially to his city and its people. And then, we get to see how he evolves from there...
Nolan's Batman movies' Bruce/Bats character arc was cool and unique in that we actually see Bruce Wayne give being Batman up and living a life for himself. That never happens anywhere else.
I love this movie. Pattinson has now become my favorite live action Batman
10:01

Someone online put it best, that Christopher Nolan put Batman in the real world and The Batman makes Batman's world real.
