@@stan0033xPalpatine is a great duelist. He just lost to Mace. He fought Yoda to a stalemate. Being able to last against Mace or Yoda immediately puts you in the great duelist category.
This scene, specifically the exchange between Anakin and Mace, is such good writing and illustrates that in this moment Anakin is actively trying to be a better Jedi, before utlimately succumbing to the dark side. Anakin had been manipulated by Palpatine into killing Dooku, with the words "he's too dangerous to be kept alive!" Anakin now knows that Palpatine is the Sith Lord that's been orchestrating everything, and we know he regrets his murder of Dooku because it meant he failed to do things 'the jedi way.' When he then hears Mace say that he's going to kill Palpatine, with those same words that the Sith Lord used to manipulate Anakin into straying from the Jedi way, he suddenly accepts Sidious' assertion that the Jedi are hypocritical fools who don't respect him. This, coupled with that frankly incredible sales pitch from Palpatine still ringing in his ears, I am the only one who can save the only thing you care about in the galaxy, serves to bolster his resolve for Palpatine to be spared. We literally see Anakin try to hold to the Jedi way by urging Mace to stop, but then his self-interest slips when he declares "I need him", with this seeming to indicate his plan would have been to learn from Palpatine while he was awaiting trial. This adds an increased desperation for him because the Jedi code now aligns with what he wants, so for him to see Mace subvert it completely shatters the idolised vision of the Jedi that he's been taught. In reality, I think Mace is clearly correct and that Palpatine is far far too dangerous to be kept alive. This is significant because I like to imagine that Palpatine knew this eventuality was likely to play out, so by planting all these seeds manipulated Anakin to see any attempt on Palpatine's life as proof the Jedi are ultimately self-serving, it turns any such attempt into the act that pushes Anakin into his arms and turns him. Add to this Anakin's propensity towards selfishness and he creates a sleeper agent who will not only come to rescue him from Mace, who is like kryptonite for dark side users (so I truly believe he would have been able to kill Palpatine, although it's equally tempting to think Palpatine was just pretending to be overcome in an attempt to elicit sympathy from Anakin), but also become his apprentice. This is Star Wars, and it was entirely missing from the sequel trilogy. 'Somehow Palpatine returned' my ass, a complete disservice to and undermining of one of the most evil, cunning, and manipulative characters in cinema history.
I live in a Central European country, you know, we always get movies later in theatres. I was a Star Wars loving fanboy and saw that (weeks before the premier in our country) the novel with the same title "Revenge of the Sith" was for sale. I bought it and already read it like five times when I finally first saw EP III. In this way I could 120% enjoy the movie because I knew all the background stuff and thoughts of the characters from the book. In this scene in particular if I recall correctly, Windu is so deep in his Vaapaad style that he actually senses the whole plan of Palpatine, he sees that everything and I mean EVERYTHING depends on Sidious' trust in Anakin. He thinks "This is a good thing, because The Chosen One will save everyone and look at that, there he is standing in the room while I reflect Force Lightning back on this mo***rf***er". Then as seen, before the final strike Anakin starts pleading him and in the books he says "No! I need him to save Padmé" and Windu thought for a second "Why?!" before he saw the blue light and felt the pain of losing his hand. Everyone who haven't done it yet, please read Matthew Stover's Revenge of the Sith, it is awesome.
Palpatine in the sequels was a clone body. He had done this in legends comics too, transferred his essence into decaying clones. It was a good story, just told poorly.

i also think that a couple of major factors that contributed to Anakin being manipulated by Palpatine were that on some level, he was still grieving his mother's death, then on top of that...he's having nightmares about Padme dying which leads him to not getting enough sleep (if the lighting is right, you can see that he has dark circles under his eyes), and...his frustrations with the Council because he feels that they're holding him back rather than let him be as good as he can be.
@@Cam.Deux. Anakin was still loyal to Jedi, as he already said to Palpatine he indeed wanted to kill him. But couldn't due to his knowledge of saving Padme. So he decided to go to Windu, and was pretty much ok with Sidious being a prisoner. Masters died, Windu had Palpatine at his mercy and declared him to be arrested. Anakin was allright with that, sk Sidious had to bring Windu much closer to the dark side. He used a Force lightning, pretending to be in pain and on danger but Anakin still didn't care. It was Windu's hatred that blinded him, when he decided to kill Sidious. And Anakin was far from being allright with that. And more then that, Windu confirmed everything that Palpatine was telling about Jedi. That they and the Sith are similar etc. Finaly Windu used the same line that Palpatine used when he tried to convince Anakin that he did a right thing when he killed Count Dooku. Windu could be right, but when he wasn't blinded by anger and hate he decided to arrest Sidious. Then Sidious killed all three masters and after that Windu still declared that he wants to arrest him. And finaly, when Sidious asked for mercy, Windu, blinded by hate, changed his mind and decided to act more like a Sith Lord. Yeah but he already had two insane fights at the end of the movie, pacing wise it would have been a horrible idea to make Palpatine vs Windu on the same level.
Palpatine killing the three Jedi Masters at the start was even more under performed. It looks like a joke and needed a lot more work to make it convincing.
The scene when Dogma executed Pong Krell was inspired from that fight scene. What if Windu executed Palpatine ? Well, he might have been arrested and also he might have doomed the entire Jedi Order as the Sith were extinct for 2,000 years. So, he would get no proof that Sheev plotted against the Galactic Republic. No one knew what a Sith Lord meant except for Jedi like Kenobi, Windu, Yoda or Ahsoka... Dogma lets his hatred take over in S4 pf The Clone Wars hence he gets arrested. More precisely, he did something off the book which was executing an unarmed prisoner, Rex hated Pong Krell and ordered his Clones to capture him for betrayal.
The thing is, that the Jedi were the "Guardians of peace and justice" for "a thousand generations". They were, morally, above reproach. Even if Mace Windu told Anakin to think of Padme and how she would feel if Anakin had chosen to serve Palpatine, who was revealed to be Darth Sidious & and Sith Lord, would that have gotten Anakin not to turn to the Dark Side of the Force at that time or not?
Probably, the Emperor deserves to die, but Mace Windu took the fall for Anakin's selfishness, seeing three master Jedi would have shocked and enraged another Jedi, but Anakin still felt Sidious should have lived despite being significantly more dangerous than Count Dooku.

@@nonyobussiness3440You’re completly wrong. Mace has complete mastery of Vaapad; Anakin was manipulated as well as pushed aside by the Jedi council hence why he ended up falling to the Dark side. It was important for the story for Anakin's final betrayal of the Jedi to be a split second decision. His conflict between his Jedi teachings & what he truly desired was the driving force behind not only his ultimate turn, but also his final redemption, & having him full on duel Windu beforehand would be him fully committing to the dark side of his own volition, rather than him having to live with the consequences of a choice he couldn't fully think through.

master windu must have been an idiot. i mean he had to have took the three WORST jedi with him to confront a dark lord of the sith.those other three jedi went down faster than a house of cards for fucks sake!!
I’m pissed at anakin for killing mace!
4:09 me too.
I´m not. Would have done the same thing!
Anakin didn´t see the dead bodies. All he saw was Mace trying to kill his old friend, after the fight was already over. He even told him, that it´s against the Jedi Code and that he doesn´t approve of killing him. Mace should have listened to him. They would have brought him to court and everything would have been fine.
Looks like Anakin was extremely stupid to believe all this crap from Palpatine, perfect match for this actor
Wasn’t totally his fault. The force dark side of the force influenced mace. If mace just arrested palpatine then anakin doesn’t turn
@@nonyobussiness3440You’re completly wrong. Mace has complete mastery of Vaapad; Anakin was manipulated as well as pushed aside by the Jedi council hence why he ended up falling to the Dark side. Palpatine has manipulated Anakin his whole life, and clouded his judgement by giving him false visions of Padme dying. It sucks how Anakin turned on the Jedi Council but it’s justifiable, he was seen too powerful by the Jedi, and he was seen as a weapon by Palpatine; the only person who truly could’ve led Anakin in the right path was Qui gon Jinn, hence why this is the Tragedy of the Chosen One.
@@anthonyjose1255Its a fkn movie haha
@@stillgotyourmomYeah, but you gotta love these Windu fanboys who actually think Palp just happens to "lose" when Anakin walks in, like cmon lmao
@@user-mb2yh9rq4f I personally think it was luck, Palp got completely disarmed, Anakin was told to stay back, but didn't listen, Palp can't control when Anakin walks in, he attempts to control the fight but loses, and is very lucky that Anakin walks in.
This would be a really dignity fight to be honest, unfortunately it wasn't like that in the movie.
Anakin. Bia
Ehhh. I wanted to see the "unlimited power" and then something completely random started happening. Bye.
Anakin would not have won this fight. Mace was too powerful and he augmented his skills with the dark side.

Hahaha naaah Windu >> Anakin
I wish there was a fight before anakin cut off windus hand making sidious shock him.
