    At artificer level 6 you talked about your CON modifier being added to you ac but I'm pretty sure the barbarian only adds the CON modifier when not wearing armor.

    • @DapperSnapperGaming
      @DapperSnapperGaming  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Right. As always with Barbarians and Monks, you always have to look at your stats and see when/if appropriate to remove armor when Unarmored Defense becomes more advantageous

    Very interesting build with unexpected choices. I actually think that this Artificer subclass and Barbarian are a match made in heaven. You replenish your temps out of combat at the maximum value which is great.
    I would have loved though if there would have been some actual build considerations around Wild Magic Surge.
    One note on Shield: you can't drop Rage outside of your turn. You can drop it only as a bonus action.

      Hey thanks! The only problem with this subclass is the randomness of it so it makes it nearly impossible to build around since you never know what you're gonna get. It's still a fun build regardless

    im playing as a lvl 6 wild magic barb after getting resurrected by my party at first I thought its kinda plain subclass in paper but in the table its a total package especially if u r with spellcasters. Overall its fun to use

    I am new to the game. Playing a druid with a Barb dip. I’m debating whether to dip to 3 in barb. Trying to find a reason to do anything outside of Bear totem if I do. The problem I see is scaling. Bear totem is =effective at level 3 as it is at level 20. Where as wild magic becomes inconsequential the higher level you go. I would love to choose it otherwise for flavor.

    • @DapperSnapperGaming
      @DapperSnapperGaming  ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a fair dilemma. Bear Totem is just so far above pretty much everything else that it can create real issues with variety in builds. I normally recommend going with what makes sense for your story and the mechanics will (most of the time) work themselves out. This subclass is very interesting and honestly the worst part of it is the randomness but the most fun part of it is also the randomness. Choose whatever leads to the character that you see it being for the flavor and power will happen in time

    Hi,
    I dont get how your total abilities points is so high (78) ? In dndbeyond the base is 72, my barbarian is a goliath that provides a racial bonus +2 str and +1 con (thus +3 in total as your race) giving a 75 total ... I'm wrong or you add your racial bonuses 2 times ?

    How did you ability score points wrote? You had a base con as 17… what method were you using to get those scores so high before you added your racial modifiers?

      This is the modified standard array. I have used this for a while at my tables and many friends of mine use it too. Other prominent TH-camrs use it or similar ones too

      @@DapperSnapperGaming I don’t know of any prominent character builders that use this. It’s straight homebrew. It would be great seeing builds that are RAW, that would make it much more accessible to those of us who are looking for advice.

    • @DapperSnapperGaming
      @DapperSnapperGaming  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes it is Homebrew, however the stats can always be modified to whatever works best at your table. If you roll stats, then it's so unpredictable that I can't possibly predict what is going to happen to everyone. Even for point buy, you can modify the adjustments as needed. If 2 +1's work better than a +2 then Variant Human is probably a better bring than Custom Lineage. It's all about adaptation with what you are handed. If you have any specific questions, hit me up on Twitter or Discord and I'd be happy to help.

    I agree that barbarians and sorcerers don't mix, but for me the reason is the spell list. Sorcerer spells don't mix well with barbarians. Why? They require save DC's or spell attacks or concentration... all of which are suboptimal on a barbarian. Warlock, however, has some great spells. You mention hexblade, which is a good dip for basically any class, and that would net you Armor of Agathys and Mirror Image which would be great uses of your pact slots. However, I would strongly recommend Fiend or Genie-Efreeti to get fire shield. Genie's extra damage dice on melee attacks seem very apropos for a barbarian and thematically a wild magic + genie combo seems like a lot of fun. Edit; fiend also meshes well with barbarians... temp hit points go further while raging and bonuses to saving throws are always welcome as they are a notorious weak spot for barbarians.

    • @DapperSnapperGaming
      @DapperSnapperGaming  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm with you. It's hard to get stats where you need them to be to succeed plus you don't wanna drop rage. I like the Fiend or Genie a lot. Super flavorful and a really cool story to tell

    Multiclassing into a half-caster isn't thaaat good in terms of spell slots, but I suppose the infusions are so good, Bag of Holding and Homunculus are too fukn great to have. You could justify the exact same thing for Wizard thematically, and there's pros and cons. WIZ gets even LESS hp per level... but you get spells on a short rest, and access to rituals, which are a huuuge bonus, especially if you're an arcane nut and gotta collect ALL the rituals...
    And with how many levels taken here, you'd also get your 6th level arcane tradition, which greatly enhances the traditions most attractive (Abjuration, Evocation, there's an argument for Divination)teatures to a barbarian: more damage, taking less damage, or influencing rolls with div and replenishing your spell slots on divination spells (looking at you, Mind Spike). They still get shield, you could have good ranged options (magic missile + mind spike = free money) in case terrain doesn't allow you to engage meaningfully at melee.
    But I think taking spellcaster levels on a Barbarian is heresy haha. Sacrificing Barbarian levels for spellcasting feels so bad when you're raging. I suppose it matters how many encounters your DM typically runs though, per in-game day I mean. I just like the little *splash* of magic you get from Wild Surge, without sacrificing 1D12 + CON every level, being a big boy with Mobile, GWM, or Savage Attacker. There's an argument maybe for a 2 level dip into Warrior for *Great Weapon Fighting*!!!! fighting style and Action Surge OP Ability. And if you're not accounting for spellcasting, you can just full-dump CHA, INT, and leave a bit in WIS so you can use Perception. It's less Multiple Attribute Dependent, stronger I think at doing what Barbarians do (hit things, don't get hit back cuz lol I have no shirt on)
    Love the video, keep up the good work, these builds are spicy!

    People say that spell slots on a Barbie are sub-optimal... and that is hard to argue. But if you have them, you should optimize your picks. Shield is great, but you can't use while raging so sub-optimal on a barbarian. Artificer spells I like on a Barbie... Aid, Longstrider, False Life, and Freedom of Movement. These are all long lasting and thus can potentially have up prior to raging. None are concentration. Worth noting that Battle Smith gets Warding Bond and Fire Shield which I also like on Barbarians. These are all *great* spells with combat utility that you could reasonably cast every day and not have to worry about interfering with Rage. Toss in some utility picks for out of combat use and you should have no problem using up your spell slots (feather fall qualifies as out of combat since raging makes it hard to use in combat). Since artificer infusions are a good match, the real downside is just having to invest in INT which has very few side benefits. Using armor and trading some DEX for INT is a good way to address this - but more than a 13 INT is hard to stomach. So it is worth noting that all the spells I listed do not require an INT greater than 13 to be effective.

    • @DapperSnapperGaming
      @DapperSnapperGaming  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is more than fair. There are ways to be effective with spell slots with the right choices. Cleric also has good choices (which there is some overlap with Art.). Plenty of room for flavor there too

      @@DapperSnapperGaming I edited my post to include that Battle Smith's get Fire Shield as well. That is a bonkers spell on a Barbarian. I'm ok with Artillerist or Battle Smith, but that Battle Smith spell list is more appropriate for a Barbarian is my only point.

    • @DapperSnapperGaming
      @DapperSnapperGaming  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree that it works really well. Artillerist is quite nice as it can turn you into a monster tank with Rage and the temp HP cannon. But I do agree with the spell list being not as good as Battle Smith.

      Well if using up your spell slots is what you want to do -alchemist- ... uh I mean moon druid, paladin and high lvl bladesinger have ways of using up spell slots that you could do while raging. Moon druid can heal themselves in wild shape to make the hp last longer, paladin smites if you want damage and bladesinger ... uhm takes a very special build. Let's see mark of warding dwarf to get armor of agathys+ fire shield and depending on the fight maybe blink, your bladesinger reaction can help with the preservation of the temp hp from armor of agathys and this can work on a wild magic barbarian, although I think I prefer ancestral barbarian and even than I'm not sure if it's worth it. (If only there was a barbarian that could cast cantrips/spells than it would be worth it. It's not even that hard to make version that is still in line with barbarian lore and has you casting spells in the most barbarian way possible.😂 Meet what I call the Magical.Adrenaline.Driven rager, which a barbarian that has artifact in fheir chest/back that has changed their body as a part of an experiment, perhaps against their will. This artifact has the spells, cantrips and such stored in it and keeps the concentration on the spells, the magical energy comes from the barbarian that takes a little bit of bludgeoning piersing or slashing damage everytime they want their artifact to cast a spel. So they cast spells with their hp and the DC is based on their strength modifier. They are a 1/3 caster progession and at 3rd lvl whenever they take the attack action they can cast any of their cantrips as a bonus action. Some more features at 6th and 10th with 10th letting them cast find steed proficiency bonus times per day for free and whenever they provide the help action in skills that use wisdom, intelligence or charisma they can add their strength modifier to the result of they check as the artifact helps him. At 14th for their capstone feature they can choose 3 3rd, 4th and 5th lvl spells for free that they can cast using their normal casting rules and the spells don't count against the number of spells known.)
