Hope its not to late to mention but this happened to mine and i unfortunately did not catch it until the seal had completely failed and all the water had drained out. All my fish died except a engineer goby, id recommend getting rid of this tank asap if you haven't already. unsure what red sea will do if anything. same exact spot, front bottom seal, just lazy engineering and or testing on the side of red sea in my opinion after doing some research.
Hey, no, it's not to late to mention as I got rid before and upgraded. You can see the full video's on the tank swap. Had to get it done before my 2 week holiday as everything goes wrong when your away!! I'm sorry to hear about yours completely failing. Amazing the engineer goby survived. Hope you were able to start up again. Thanks for supporting my channel 😀
Thanks for posting this. Was considering a G2 but I guess will have to wait for a few years to see how they fare, so onto D-d or similar for me. Hope you get it resolved…such a massive hassle.
Hey, thank you. Good luck in your hunt for a tank. It was a huge hassle, but if the silicone seam had burst, it would have been a whole lot more hassle, and if I had lost everything, it may well have been my reefing days over!
My Red Sea 425 XL suddenly blew out. No warnings. I checked it daily after seeing others concerns and blow outs. The entire bottom gave out in front of me one day with all of the 112 gallons coming out in minutes. My home was flooded and I lost all of my fish and most corals. I heard even the new G1 and G2 ones have had failures. If you haven’t already I would get rid of it asap and make sure you’re prepared for a sudden flood
Wow, that's crazy that it just blew out and just as you were in front of the tank. Must have been one hell of a shock! I'm sorry to hear you lost everything and, of course, had to deal with the mess and flood 😞 I did get my 425xl replaced before anything really bad happened, thank goodness. So far, I'm very happy with my G2, and I believe the upgrades they've done should hopefully prevent any seal splitting, but obviously, time will tell. At least I have the 5 year guarantee!
Have a reefer 250 , same problem i see the sand fall between glass and silicone before going to bed... have to save all in kid's bathtub in emergency... 8 day after ,receive a new aquarium from redsea in warranty... difficult time but they are reactive. (but first time in 15 years to have this type of problem... and first time i buy a redsea aquarium)
Good grief. You were very lucky then to see that before going to bed. What a nightmare. At least your tank was within its warranty. Yeah, it's unfortunate, but at least they did right by you. I'm still waiting for a response!
@@ReefDrama 1 year after new tank give by redsea... same again sand falling... waiting their response... Clearly a conception problem. If they give me another one i will put a wood to cover all glass and take the effort ... glass on the air will always fall
My tank went yesterday, just over 3 years old. The entire front seal went without any notice. Trashed the house and my entire tank has now crashed😢 I have looked online and this is definitely a known issue. What I cant understand is why we register these tanks with RS and the manufacture does not perform any product recalls or give any warning notices. I’m definitely not purchasing another one, I think I am going to have to go down the legal route, have no confidence in RS anymore.
Hey, I'm so sorry to hear you lost everything as well as trashing the house 😞 It's so sad and frustrating, especially when it's something that wasn't your fault. Mine was the same, just over 3 years!! You're right. It does seem to be a known issue, and whether it's got anything to do with no middle strut and the fact the tank overhangs the cabinet or not, I am not sure. I'm thankful the new G2 larger tanks do have the middle strut and an additional metal lip supporting the overhang. That's just a couple of the improvements for the G2. I fully understand you not trusting Red Sea tanks again. I was in two minds, but as my 425xl was out of warranty, I would have lost loads of money if I had not replaced it with another Red Sea. Good luck with any future plans, and I do hope it hasn't put you off the Salty world! Thank you for supporting my channel 😀
I would try to get money back but settle for a replacement and if they agreed complete credit, I would buy another brand like water box or SC aquariums as soon as possible.
Ive heard people have lots of problems with red sea tanks leaking. Innovative marine and waterbox seem not have that many problems . Those are definitely the best brands on the market. I just ordered a 200 gallon innovative marine myself.
Yeah, someone else mentioned Innovative Marine. I've looked at Waterbox, too. Very nice looking tanks. Wow, that's awesome 200 gallons. Nice 😀 What you going for? SPS, Fish Only or mixed reef?
@ReefDrama mixed reef, really excited to aquascape with it, it's 30 inches from front to back. My father has been doing this hobby for 30 years, I'm a newbie.
Ooo, that's gonna be awesome. Great size for proper depth aquascaping. 24 inches is good until the overflow bit in the middle, but 30 inches will make all the difference. Sounds like you have an amazing amount of knowledge and experience to fall back on if you need it. Enjoy, and take your time with it. 😀
Thanks very much. I think the warranty is 2 years and then another 1 year if you registered it. Still waiting to hear back with any sort of update, but with the festive period, it will be a while yet.
Hi, was that prior to any noticeable seal damage or because it started to fail? I have seen people do this, but only because the seal has failed, and they are trying to keep it from letting the front glass go on the floor. Thanks for supporting my channel 😀
Had the same problem a month back. I had 2 bubbles in the same area about 30cm long and another about 11cm along on a reefer XL300. Contacted red sea and they sent a G2 system out to replace it. It will 100% grow until the front panel falls off. Mine got to that size within days. The tank was perfectly level aswell. Best bet is to try and claim warrenty.
Thanks, Fin, for letting me know. We will see what they are like as a company when it's out of warranty. Absolutely will update everyone once I've heard back from them 😀 Thank you, and thanks for supporting my channel 😀
Oh wow!! I'm sorry to hear this. Did you buy it 2nd hand? Obviously, if you brought brand new, then it's covered under the warranty, although it's still a hassle to swap everything over. Hope you've managed to sort it?
Yeah from their mistakes, the G2 seem to addressed it all especially on the bigger tanks. Plywood stand with reinforcements on the larger tanks and thicker silicon with plastic seal. The downside to the G2 is that it doesn't look as sleek as the older 'lesser silicone' versions as the armor seal is quite thick. Just remember this, Red Sea sells more tanks than any other brands. its unfortunately that a very small amount of their larger tanks suffer this fate. Fortunately they stand behind their product knowing that this is a potential problem and usually replace it hassle free. There is not much they can do except for keep on replacing the failed tanks over time with new G2s. I m ordering a G2 and my friends have G2s and couldnt speak any ill of the quality of the new tanks.
Hi Marcus, hopefully, they will continue to stand behind their product as you say. Time will tell, and once the festive period ends, I'm hoping to hear back from them. The G2 looks good, and thicker silicon with plastic seal sounds good. Will see.
I think its a good reason to upgrade! Lets say best thing red sea replaces tank you still would have to do everything the same as a tank upgrade why put the stress on everything for the same size.
It's definitely an option, Tony. Was going to upgrade when we move house, but maybe this will force my hand. Whatever happens, I will share it with you all, so make sure you're subscribed for future episodes. There are so many plans for the future, but I can't say just yet! 😉
I'm sorry to hear this 😞 I hope you are able to sort it out, but my advice would be to change your tank ASAP. Mine might have lasted a little longer, but then again, it could have blown out at any time. Just plan how you're going to move everything and have plenty of heaters, containers, towels , and some spare saltwater on hand, too. All the best, and let me know you get on. Thanks for supporting my channel 😀
I think you need to move the livestock. Unfortunately tanks don't last forever..but yours only lasted 3-4 years. That giant Berlin hotel recently gave way last month after 20 years . Let us know what red sea has to say about this and how long a tank would normally last.
Hi Sue, Yes, plans are underway to move all livestock. You would have thought a tank would last longer 🤷♂️, especially as I brought it brand new, and it's never been moved since. Yeah, that was terrible news 😞 I will update everyone once I hear back from them.
hello friend oh my god i had exactly this in november redsed 240l i started noticing that my car near the aquarium front glass was wet, i thought there was a samp leak and it wasn't a few days since i was at work and my aquarium was leaking and the neighbors called the fire brigade to they stopped the current because no one was home, i lost almost all the corals and saved only 2 clown fish and a yellow tang
Hello, many thanks for your comment. I'm sorry to hear you lost most of your livestock. What a nitemare!! Pleased you were able to save some, though. Was your tank still in its warranty or out of warranty? What did Red Sea do for you? I'm in the process of communicating with Red Sea as I initially went to the supplier of the tank who said they were going to speak to Red Sea on my behalf but this just wasted time as I had to create a ticket via Red Sea website anyway! 🙄 Waiting to hear from them now I've sent more information and photos.
@Mrpov_ Hey, my new G2 is doing great, thanks. Obviously, the 425xl let me down, but the upgrades on the G2 make me confident that it ( hopefully ) won't happen again. Thanks for supporting my channel 😀
Have you asked Red Sea what they think? Ask for their thoughts and if they are prepared to discuss replacement. It makes all of us Reefer Owners worried to see this.
This is why I wanted to put the video out. I love my Red Sea tank, but surely the seal shouldn't go like that. It's out of it's warrenty so I'm not going to get a replacement from them.
Hi, the bottom seal started to split, and luckily, I was able to replace it and swap everything over before it started letting water out all over the floor. The tank was then scrapped, and I still have the cabinet as I am going to chop it up and make an electronics board from one of the doors. Using the sides or base to practise on 1st and see how well it cuts! I sold the sump. Thanks for supporting my channel 😀
Wow, yes, i d definitely be reaching out to Redsea. They are usually very good customer service . I had a friend that had his tank for 5+ yrs, tank seal started to go reached out to them with photo's and said they would send him a new tank 50% off which was good as it was out of warranty, i'd be on to it ASAP there's no doubt that's going to blow 100%
That was good then for your friend, considering how much it was out of its warranty. I'm currently waiting for a response from them, but the festive period will slow things down somewhat. Yeah agree, it's definitely gonna blow at some point.
Hi, yes, unfortunately, it's not ideal. I believe the thought process was after 3 years you would be looking to upgrade anyway, although in theory, these expensive tanks should last at least 10 years if set up correctly on a solid level floor and you're not abusing it with glass scrapers etc. The problems that the older Red Sea tanks have they've now rectified with the new G2 versions. However, let's see what happens in 3-5 years from now. 🤞 Good luck with your hobby journey, and many thanks for supporting my channel 😀
